The Bald Prince and His Tall Knight Make Perfect Travel Companions This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl are talking about the new GOT spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. And Wonderman Episode 1. All this and… some Brandon Sanderson news. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Sanderson: 8:45 Wonderman: 19:00 Dunk & Egg: 35:07 Brandon Sanderson's Literary Fantasy Universe ‘Cosmere' Picked Up by Apple TV (Exclusive) https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/brandon-sandersons-mistborn-stormlight-archive-movie-tv-1236487271/ Wonderman (Disney+) Episode 1 – “Matinee” (Premiere) Episode 1 introduces us to Simon Williams (played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), a struggling actor and stuntman whose career is in a tailspin. After being fired from a TV role and dumped by his girlfriend, Simon is at a crossroads. When he runs into Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley), a fellow actor with an eccentric reputation, he learns Slattery is auditioning for a remake of the classic superhero film Wonder Man — a movie Simon loved as a kid and which inspired him to pursue acting in the first place. Simon pushes for a shot at the role, but his agent refuses. Undeterred, he somehow lands an audition alongside Slattery anyway. Slattery gives him advice that helps him make an impression. Meanwhile, Department of Damage Control agent P. Cleary secretly contacts Slattery with instructions to watch Simon closely because he might have actual superpowers, tying Simon's acting ambitions to real-world MCU stakes. This episode sets up two parallel arcs: Simon's Hollywood hustle and dream of stardom, and the hint that he may be more than just an actor, potentially linking him to actual superhero abilities and the broader Marvel universe. Tone-wise, Episode 1 blends industry satire, comedy, and superhero setup, spotlighting the absurdities of Hollywood while weaving in classic MCU connective tissue. Ratings: Out of 5 Here’s a Note For You… Get Out Darryl: 3.75/5 Brian: 3.8/5 A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (HBO Max) Episode 1 – “The Hedge Knight” This premiere introduces Dunk (Ser Duncan the Tall) and Egg (the boy who becomes his squire), setting up the tone and stakes for the series. It takes place about 100 years before Game of Thrones and focuses on a smaller-scale story full of character and humor rather than sweeping war and politics. Here's what happens: Dunk buries his mentor, Ser Arlan of Pennytree, and takes his sword, shield, and three horses as he heads toward the Ashford tourney, hoping to make his name and find work. At an inn, he meets a young bald boy who asks to be his squire. After initially refusing, Dunk ultimately accepts him and names the boy Egg. At Ashford, Dunk tries to enter the tournament but learns he needs someone reputable to vouch for him. He seeks out knights who knew Ser Arlan, but nobody will put their name on the line for a wandering hedge knight. Along the way we see the rough, earthy humor and grounded Westerosi world the show is leaning into (including some decidedly human moments missing from prior franchise entries). By the end, Dunk officially becomes Ser Duncan the Tall, and he and Egg share a moment under the stars, signaling the start of their journey together. Tone note: it's lighter and more character-focused than Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, blending heartfelt moments with gritty, grounded humor. Episode 2 – “Hard Salt Beef” In the second episode, Dunk's quest to enter the Ashford tourney continues and the story expands slightly into the world's wider politics and personality. Key beats: Dunk spends much of the episode telling other knights about his mentor Ser Arlan, trying to get someone to vouch for him so he can compete, but keeps getting brushed off. Egg helps by pointing out the unfairness of Dunk needing permission when he's already a knight, showing how their dynamic is evolving. Members of House Targaryen arrive at the tourney — princes including Baelor, Maekar, and Aerion — and their presence adds weight to the event. Dunk overhears a conversation about missing Targaryen children and uses the moment (and a bit of boldness) to appeal directly to Prince Baelor to vouch for him. Baelor does remember Ser Arlan and, while not lavish in praise, quietly ensures Dunk's name is added to the tournament list. Dunk and Egg also start to settle more into the tourney rhythm — from watching performances to joining in games — as Dunk grapples with what legacy and honor really mean in this world. This episode deepens the relationship between Dunk and Egg, introduces more of Westeros's nobility (in a relatively casual, grounded way), and frames Dunk's struggles not just to fight but to matter. Quick Character & World Context Dunk and Egg are adapted from the Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas by George R.R. Martin. The series is intentionally smaller in scale, focusing on relationships and the everyday lives of knights and squires rather than epic political wars or dragons. This is a podcast for tall girlies, right? Well, I mean obviously. It's literally called A Tall Girl's Podcast. And I get quite a few messages, emails, reviews, and comments from tall women of different heights saying how this podcast has helped them love their height. And honestly, I'm super grateful for y'all. Now these heights range from 5'8” all the way to 6'5”, which is a pretty big range. And if you were to line these women up by height and ask everyday people which ones they considered tall, I'm sure we'd get varying responses. Some people will say 5'10”. Some will say 6'1”. Some will apparently say 5'5” lol. I honestly have no idea why, but whatever. Anyways, it's apparent that no one can agree on what's considered tall for a woman. And today, we're gonna dive deeper into this debate and maybe even settle it once and for all. And before they head into the spoilery Storm section, Neil does a deep dive into the currency of Westeros so that everyone can convert their silver stags into gold dragons as they tearfully sell their most beloved horse. Then in The Storm [01:01:38], Da7e has questions about the Targaryen family tree, their current obsession with the Blackfyre Rebellion, and the tradition of houses changing sigils over time. In the movie 1973 film Walking Tall, Sheriff Buford Pusser is a heroic law enforcement officer in small-town Tennessee whose fight against the Dixie Mafia leads to an ambush and shooting that left his beloved wife Pauline dead. The movie and its sequels and remakes made Pusser, who died in a 1974 car crash, into a folk hero. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson played him in the 2004 Walking Tall remake. The Pusser legend became a cottage industry for Adamsville, Tennessee, where the Buford Pusser Home and Museum is based. Mike Elam, a former law enforcement officer, started researching Pusser's life as a hobby back in the 1970s. Once the internet became an avenue for exploration, "I started a social media page and I was very much a fan of Buford Pusser at that time," Pusser tells Modern Law Library host Lee Rawles. "And it was one of those things where I got to researching it and learned far too much for my own liking, because I did not like the man I saw as opposed to the one that was in the movie." Elam's decades of research and interviews with people who had encountered Pusser led to a book, Buford Pusser: The Other Story. It also led to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations reopening the case into Pauline Pusser's murder and exhuming her body. In 2025, they announced that the investigation revealed details that pointed to one suspect: Buford Pusser himself. In this episode, Elam discusses his long investigation, tips for other true crime citizen detectives, what he thinks now about the way Buford Pusser has been memorialized–and how he found the gun that killed Pauline.

Being a tall woman comes with a whole slew of questions, right? Like “How's the weather up there?” Or “Are your parents tall?” Or “Do you play basketball?” If you cringed or got annoyed by any of these, I honestly don't blame you. However, there are other questions that tall women receive that are a bit…off. “Can I climb you?” “Can you pick me up?” “Can you step on me?” I really am amazed by what comes out of people's mouths sometimes lol. And if you're a tall girly who has experienced any of this, you are not alone. Too often, tall women are fetishized because of their height, and the same goes for the short girlies. We're riding back into Westeros with Dunk & Egg, George R.R. Martin's lighter, lore-rich prequel following the unlikely duo of Ser Duncan the Tall and his sharp squire, Egg—set about 90 years before Game of Thrones. We break down how this series fits between House of the Dragon and ASOIAF, dig into the three original novellas, and react to a pilot that's surprisingly breezier (yes, including some truly unhinged Westerosi gross-out moments). From tourneys at Ashford to meta jokes, lighter music, and the birth of a legendary partnership, we wrap by picking favorite moments and deciding if we're all in for the season ahead. 2026 wird das große Westeros-Jahr bei HBO (und HBO Max, jetzt auch in Deutschland). Nicht nur startet im Sommer die dritte Staffel von House of the Dragon.Mit A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms beginnt am 18./19. The world of Westeros CONTINUES to grow as Greg, John, & Michael Tessler UNITE to give their A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Reaction, Recap, Analysis, Breakdown, Commentary, & Spoiler Review!! Greg Alba, John Humphrey, & Michael Tessler react to the season premiere of HBO's A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the new Game of Thrones spinoff adapted from George R.R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas (The Hedge Knight). Set roughly a century before the events of Game of Thrones and after the events of House of the Dragon, the new series shifts the scale from epic wars to intimate adventures, focusing on honor, friendship, and the realities of knighthood in Westeros. The premiere introduces Ser Duncan the Tall, known as Dunk (Peter Claffey – Bad Sisters, Vikings: Valhalla), a towering hedge knight with a strong moral compass but little status, and his sharp-witted soon-to-be squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell – The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, Emmerdale). Their journey places them amid the politics of the Seven Kingdoms during the reign of King Aegon V Targaryen's era, brushing up against noble houses, tourneys, and the lingering legacy of Targaryen rule. As Ser Duncan attempts to honor his mentor and make a name for himself, a new opportunity presents itself in the form of a tourney... Blending classic Game of Thrones lore with a lighter, more personal perspective, the premiere sets the stage for a series rooted in chivalry, consequence, and the everyday lives shaped by Westeros' power struggles. It's a refreshing return to the world of George R.R. Martin—less about thrones, more about the people who live in their shadow. In episode 221, host Galit Friedlander and guest Kim Holmes (widely respected director, choreographer, dance educator) explore the roots of house and hip-hop culture through lived experience, mentorship, and time spent inside New York City's party and club scenes before these styles became widely visible. Kim shares her journey into dance, discovering house at a young age, and learning directly with pioneers like Marjory Smarth during a formative era that shaped how she moves, teaches, and thinks about longevity. Together, Galit and Kim reflect on what it meant to come up in spaces where culture was built in real time—long before social media or conventions—and how being “the it kids” back then came with both opportunity and responsibility. The conversation also moves into technique, recovery, listening to the body, trusting timing, and how mindset and intuition quietly guide long careers in dance. Originally recorded in 2019, this episode feels especially relevant today as dancers revisit foundations, lineage, and what it truly means to sustain a life in dance beyond trends. Tarth, nicknamed the Sapphire Isle, is a beautiful island in Shipbreaker Bay, and has long been a part of the Stormlands. Eons ago they had their own kings with both First Man and Andal ancestry, but the rulers of Tarth have always been dubbed “the Evenstar”, and have resided in Evenfall Hall while maintaining strength at sea. Island folk are always at least a little different from mainlanders and they are no exception. This is the house of Brienne after all, but the story of House Tarth includes another historical exception as well - Ser Duncan the Tall, not to mention a blood connection to House Targaryen.HoW Audience Survey - bit.ly/howsurveyBonus Eps & More - patreon.com/historyofwesterosShirts & Stickers - historyofwesteros.threadless.comwww.historyofwesteros.comIntro/Maps - klaradox.deFacebook Group - bit.ly/howfbDiscord - bit.ly/howdiscordNina - goodqueenaly.tumblr.com/
