We're joined by Catriona Lowry from The Hilltop Sanctuary in Ireland. Catriona gave up a career in fashion to dedicate her life to helping animals. Not just dogs, but pigs, donkeys, chickens and a lot of horses. In a country where there appears to be an abject negligence to the health and welfare on many animals, it was a Fortune Teller that predicted Catriona's journey. Setting up the Hilltop Sanctuary has changed Catriona's life, and made her realise the importance of helping creatures with no voice. Whilst a baptism of fire for her, this episode certainly highlights that some animals can indeed benefit from the luck of the Irish. We chat about her ongoing campaigns to fund this not for profit organisation, highlighting some terrible cases, but always with a smile on her face and a touch of lipstick. Tirelessly campaigning for Animal Welfare in Ireland, Catriona supports Dog Advocacy Ireland and is vehemently against the cruel puppy farming trade that earns the Irish Government  over 2 Million Euros in tax money annually! My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Karen Walczyk Prescott, author of the book Polish Mother. Karen was born and educated in central and upstate New York.  Inspiration for her second book, Polish Mother, came from three generations of devoted Polish mothers in her life.  Her great-grandmother, a quiet, unassuming woman who traveled through Ellis Island alone at the age of sixteen, lived across the street from the author when she was young.  Tirelessly dedicated to family and Polish immigrants, post WWII, the author's grandmother was a friend to all.  And finally, the author's mother, Eugenia, now age 92, who grew up in the Polish community of Syracuse, New York, and instilled the importance of Polish traditions and Catholicism. The first self-published novella Prescott wrote is Babbling Brook Society, a historical fantasy set in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Karen is married, the mother of three, and twice retired, once after twenty years at AT&T, and again after twelve years as a middle school English teacher.  She currently lives in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, where she plays golf, writes and is president of her neighborhood book club. In my book review, I stated Polish Mother is a creative non-fiction novel that is part family memoir and part historical fiction written about her grandmother (Mary Ann) and her great grandmother (Stella). We even get the chance to meet her great great grandmother Jozefa! The story takes place, first in Russia-occupied Poland, then on to Ellis Island, Connecticut, and finally New York. Stella arrives penniless after a perilous journey, meets up with her father who left the family a decade earlier to leave escape Poland and marry another woman, and eventually finds the man she will marry. However, even love doesn't solve all Stella's problems as she deals with the prohibition, family tragedy's, the depression, WWII, and her husband's betrayal. Despite all the losses, this is a book about hope and redemption. It is a book about love and what a mother will do to protect her family. It is a book about what it means to be a Polish Mother - one who honors God, family and country. And how, even after generations in America, Polish families pass on these traditions of prayer, food and patriotism. Excellent read! Navigating Real Estate Challenges: Insights from Dan and Kaelee from Open the Gate Show Join Kaelee, a dedicated real estate agent from Sacramento County, and Dan, a partner at Finley Home Services, as they share their experiences and insights in the real estate industry. In this engaging episode, Kaelee talks about overcoming market challenges, her career path, and how she finds joy in helping clients buy and sell homes. Dan provides his perspective on pest control, home inspections, and the importance of consistency and hard work. Together, they also discuss their podcast 'Open the Gate,' which aims to offer transparency and practical advice for success in real estate. Whether you're a seasoned agent or new to the industry, this episode is packed with valuable information and inspiring stories. Kaelee has been soaking up the Sacramento sun since 1990, and after college, she spread her wings and headed to the glitz and glamour of L.A. There, she dabbled in all the classic Hollywood hustles: acting, modeling, and perfecting her restaurant tray-balancing skills. But just when she thought she might star in a blockbuster (or at least get a killer Yelp review), fate swooped in and she was recruited by a hard money lender in Calabasas. Little did she know, this would be the plot twist that set her on her real estate journey. Fast forward to 2017: Kaelee returns to her Sacramento roots and dives headfirst into business development for a new brokerage called Answer Home Loans. Spoiler alert: they're now the biggest mortgage broker in the Sacramento area. She snagged her real estate license in 2018 and added another chapter by exploring the world of title sales for seven years, soaking up knowledge like a sponge. But in 2024, Kaelee decided it was time to stop being the sidekick and become the hero of her own real estate story. With full throttle ambition, she's now betting on herself, helping people find their dream homes, and living her best Sacramento life. Dan was born in Half Moon Bay, CA, college in Denver where I met my wife (Marina). Moved back to Northern CA for a few years then to Kansas City for 6 years and have been back in the Greater Sac area for the past 12 years. A proud father of 2 incredible kids (Kaleigh & Luccas), an avid sports fan, coach, partner at Finley Home Services and co-host of the Open the Gate Podcast! Tirelessly passionate about building long standing deep relationships and business growth!

In the 1970s, Toni McIlwain was drawn to Detroit by the promise of a thriving Black business community. Leaving Akron, Ohio, she set out with her four children in search of a fresh start. However, the road was not easy; for 18 months, she and her family were unhoused, grappling with feelings of hopelessness. It was during this trying time, while searching for food to feed her family, that Toni made a heartfelt prayer, vowing that if she could receive help, she would dedicate her life to helping others. This pledge became the guiding principle of her life. Her journey of service began in her own neighborhood, where she organized a block club to help her neighbors reclaim their streets from crime and build a safer, more united community. From those small beginnings, Toni went on to lead the Ravendale Community Network, working tirelessly to uplift her community and beyond. She remains a powerful example of faith in action, demonstrating that with determination and divine purpose, transformation is always possible. On a spring afternoon in 1985 in Gary, Indiana, a fifteen-year-old girl kills an elderly woman in a violent home invasion. In a city with a history of racial tensions and white flight, the girl, Paula Cooper, is Black, and her victim, Ruth Pelke, is white and a beloved Bible teacher. The press swoops in.When Paula is sentenced to death, no one decries the impending execution of a tenth grader. But the tide begins to shift when the victim's grandson Bill forgives the girl, against the wishes of his family, and campaigns to spare her life. This tragedy in a midwestern steel town soon reverberates across the United States and around the world—reaching as far away as the Vatican—as newspapers cover the story on their front pages and millions sign petitions in support of Paula. As Paula waits on death row, her fate sparks a debate that not only animates legal circles but raises vital questions about the value of human life: What are we demanding when we call for justice? Is forgiveness an act of desperation or of profound bravery? As Bill and Paula's friendship deepens, and as Bill discovers others who have chosen to forgive after terrible violence, their story asks us to consider what radical acts of empathy we might be capable of.In Seventy Times Seven, Alex Mar weaves an unforgettable narrative of an act of violence and its aftermath. This is a story about the will to live—to survive, to grow, to change—and about what we are willing to accept as justice. Tirelessly researched and told with intimacy and precision, this book brings a haunting chapter in the history of our criminal justice system to astonishing life. On today's show with Meridian Grace we talked about some healthy lifestyle tips that we can all implement into our lives to get healthier every single day. Sometimes in our lives it's really difficult to do everything we know we are supposed to in order to get abundant health. Meridian shared some really interesting ideas about her morning routine to get her health off to the right start each and every day. If you can optimize your morning routine it can really help to establish good healthy patterns for your day. It's all about creating life supporting habits and the best time to do that is with a strong morning routine. Meridian's morning routine includes doing a coffee enema when she gets up as well as using a Power Plate, rebounder (she also has the Bellicon rebounder like we do!), infrared nasal laser and taking high doses of niacin (what they call the "niacin flush") . We also talked about what she calls "intuitive eating" where we stop listening to the advice of "health gurus" and start listening to our body. It's really challenging because there's literally something wrong with all food. Broccoli for example is high in sulfur which people could be allergic to. You can find something wrong with just about every fruit or vegetable on the planet. It's really important to stop listening to the advice of other people and start getting in touch with our body. Listen to what your body wants. But how do we do that? Some of the things she mentioned were meditation, getting still, muscle testing aka kinesiology and other strategies. Near the end of the show we also talked about how to detox your body and some good cleansing strategies and more. This was a really good show and I hope you enjoyed it. It was an honor and a pleasure to speak with Dr. LLoyd Jenkins from The Budwig Center in Malega Spain for healing cancer naturally. We talked about where cancer comes from and how people can live a lifestyle that prevents cancer from showing up in the first place. We also talked about the heart and soul of the Budwig Protocol which is the combination of organic cottage cheese mixed with flax seed oil. There's a chemical reaction when mixed correctly that somehow enables more oxygen to transfer into the cell. And we all know how critical oxygen is for healing cancer. If you want to learn more about the importance of oxygen, you can listen to the show we did with Mr. Oxygen himself Ed McCabe. We learned about how to make the concoction as well as why it's so healing for the body. We also learned how to mix it correctly so that the chemicals get released into the mixture but also so you don't damage the food. So these two substances are at the heart and soul of the Budwig Protcol but there are a million other things they do for cancer as well like blood testing, pH balancing of the tissues, EFT or also known as tapping on meridian acupuncture points. It's my contention that emotions, stress, anxiety and fear are the the root cause of all cancers. How we fell is CRITICAL to our health. Oftentimes we store trapped emotions in our body's that actually contribute to the lower frequency and vibration of cells. This in turns is one cog in the wheel of the cancer connection. We also discussed how the Budwig Protocol affects the body if you're on chemotherapy. Some other notable topics of discussion were IV infusions, wheatgrass juice, coffee enemas, colonics, Rife Machines, heat therapy, the dangers of biopsies, and mammograms for breast cancer screening and so much more. We hope you truly enjoy this show! :) Please pass this show on to your friends. People need to hear this powerfully empowering information so that they can have hope. I'm curious what you thought about Meridian Grace. She's quite a fascinating woman I have to say. Her and Dr. Richard Massey have to be the top power couple in health if you ask me. We talked about her incredibly diverse background as well as how metabolic typing plays a role in how much energy we have, how we feel, our digestion and so much more. She gave some great ideas on how to map out your own health journey. It's interesting because even if you find the right diet that works amazingly well for your DNA, that diet might not work for you during times of increased stress. Or it might. Personally I think that as humans we only know about 1% of what's actually going on inside our bodies when we eat. The human body is so incredibly complex in how it uses electricity from food along with minerals and vitamins that might not ever even be discovered. I've heard that in a tomato there are over 5,000 chemical compounds and the majority of them haven't even been discovered yet. Incredible. But what I will say is that Meridian and Dr. Massey are on to something big with their entire program they have there in Texas. I would HIGHLY recommend going to see them if you're able. “The world starts with educated children.” is the tagline of Room to Read, a globally active charitable organization that has made incredible strides to provide high quality access to millions of children in this world. Interviewing its co-founder and first generation CEO John J Wood to me was an absolute highlight as he has been a hero of mine for many years.  So having the ability to speak to him directly for the 5th Episode of the TeachPitch Podcast was truly an honor literally a dream come true. John is an absolute whirlwind. I really admire his undying energy that he used to build Room to Read - and when you look at what John and his co-founders managed to accomplish in 21 years raising over $650 million dollars, helping over 32 million people just to mention a few stats you cannot do anything else than admire him.  John has a great mantra which he has abbreviated into GSD (Getting Shit Done) and to me his goal getter mentality is contagious.  He has moved on from Room to Read and founded a new organization called U-Go work that I believe he combines with his job at Concentric Equity in the investment spheres.  I have no doubt in my mind that John will make his new endeavours as a succes as he is one that advises others to “stay hungry, stay humble, keep setting big goals and work tirelessly towards those goals."

Devin: What is your superpower?Stephanie: I would like my superpower to be the great application of the community wealth building lens to help effect positive change in Baltimore, so it can, at some point, become a more equitable, inclusive, sustainable, resilient city.Stephanie Geller is going to hate this article.Stephanie, the founder of Community Wealth Builders and the Maryland Neighborhood Exchange, deserves credit for making a big difference in Baltimore. That is the last thing she wants to see in print. She’s all about building community and believes that requires sharing credit widely while she takes personal responsibility to put her heart and soul into the work. She went to college to learn how to end the poverty she saw in Baltimore, earning a degree in Urban and Regional Studies from Cornell before completing her master’s of social work specializing in social and community development at the University of Maryland.“I had the crazy idea that I would study urban planning and public policy and come back to Baltimore with all the tools necessary to effect change,” Stephanie says. Before shifting her attention to grassroots work, she spent two decades at Johns Hopkins studying the problems she now works to solve.“I was born and raised in Baltimore. This is my city,” she says. “even as a young child, I was frustrated by the poverty I saw, the homelessness I saw. And in Baltimore, it’s very visible.”“I knew from childhood that I wanted to affect some type of positive change,” she says. That’s exactly what she’s doing.Get every episode! Subscribe now!“I was very frustrated with the socioeconomic challenges facing Baltimore and was curious what communities were out there that were doing different things with better outcomes,” she says. “That opened my eyes to the whole notion of community wealth building.”“Community wealth building is an economic development paradigm that focuses on bringing power and resources back to disinvested communities,” Stephanie says. Speaking of cooperatives, worker ownership and community land trusts, she adds, “These models were fascinating, and in many ways, they flipped what my city, Baltimore City, was doing on its head.”The city focused on recruiting large employers to town, ignoring community and individual empowerment, and failing to consider how people could build assets, which, she notes, is essential for breaking cycles of intergenerational poverty.“We are the only entity in Baltimore to focus on the broad notion of community wealth building. We do education work, advocacy work, and then we do real active programs,” Stephanie says. “They’re all different, and they focus on different communities in Baltimore, but they’re all tied through the lens of bringing power and resources back to disinvested neighborhoods.”Working with thriving local entrepreneurs, she has built strong relationships, including with successful Black-owned businesses. Despite their success, they consistently reported difficulty attracting capital.Looking for solutions, she discovered a new tool. “That opened my eyes to the new world of grassroots investment crowdfunding,” she says.“It just made so much sense within our overall mission, for three reasons,” she says, listing them:One, it creates more asset-building opportunities for real Baltimoreans. Two, it gets businesses the capital they need. In a way, the businesses set the terms they can decide do they want equity? Do they want to do revenue sharing? So it's very business focused. Then three, through that community wealth building lens, if businesses give their customers and community a small financial stake in their success, they're going to shop at the business more. They're going to promote it more. So it really creates that more equitable, sustainable, resilient economy that we care about.Community Wealth Builders works on both sides of the equation. On the one side, the organization provides free technical support to any locally owned business interested in raising money via investment crowdfunding. On the other side, she’s helping to develop discipline around investing in local businesses. “We want to educate real people that they can invest in local businesses. We want to excite them about it. We want them to understand why this is important for a sustainable, resilient local economy. And then we want to make it easy for people to do so.”The Maryland Neighborhood Exchange lists companies currently raising capital via crowdfunding. The site also lists 63 companies that have successfully raised money after being listed on the Exchange. While Stephanie refers to the site as a platform, it is not a FINRA-registered Regulation Crowdfunding portal. It is a directory of companies that are raising money on FINRA-registered portals. Many of those companies have received training and support from Community Wealth Builders, which also works to cultivate the investor community to support local companies.SuperCrowd22At SuperCrowd22, Stephanie will lead a workshop on tapping investment crowdfunding to foster more equitable, inclusive, sustainable, and resilient local economies.“People in Baltimore want to invest in our businesses, so sort of adding that local frame and focusing on people as possible investors and great businesses,” she says. “I think that’s important if we want grassroots investment crowdfunding to be a more robust tool.”“People live in Baltimore. People stay here because they love the city,” she says. “People now know, [if] I want to support the economy, I should shop local. I should go to the farmer’s market. They don’t know about investing in local business. So it’s just educating, opening people’s eyes.” SuperCrowd22 can be a tool for that education in every community.I’m thrilled to have Stephanie on the program for SuperCrowd22. Her leadership is helping to improve opportunities for people in Baltimore. More importantly, at least to me, her work provides a model for every other city in the country. No town is exempt from poverty.Community Wealth Builders has also stepped up to act as a co-host for SuperCrowd22. Members of the community should contact Stephanie for discounted access. (Superpowers for Good subscribers can register for half-price here.)Stephanie’s work builds on what she describes as the superpower she hopes to strengthen, using the community wealth building lens to solve problems. How to Develop Community Wealth Building As a SuperpowerGiven the number of companies that have raised capital with her help and the number of investors who have put their money to work with her help, I think community wealth building is her superpower.Stephanie explains the power of her work and the patience and passion required:Grassroots work involves people. One of the projects we're working on is two-and-one-half years in development. There's nothing even tangible there yet. We're working in a Baltimore community to help residents pool capital so they can collectively buy commercial real estate.I'm really excited about this project and potential and it's the first time this is being done in Baltimore. It's definitely an initiative I am excited about and proud of.Stephanie shares the credit. “All of this work is due to countless hours of so many other great Baltimoreans.”“That’s one reason I love investment crowdfunding the way we’re doing it in Baltimore. People can go into the businesses that are raising capital. They can see them; they can talk to the owners and entrepreneurs. It’s all based on relationships and connections.”By following Stephanie’s example and advice, you can apply the lens of community wealth building to your work and make it a superpower enabling you to do more good. Welcome to the very first episode of Communicate to Lead. I bet you know a few leaders who inspire you and who you look to for leadership guidance. I definitely do!When the pandemic hit us last year, there were some great examples of great leaders and those who weren't ready to lead. I've always been passionate about leadership and what makes a truly great leader. I'm talking about those leaders who know when to listen and when to speak, who know their strengths and weaknesses, and never hesitate to communicate that to the people they're leading. I've also been inspired by leaders who don't necessarily have the title, but they're still leading. Their communication is clear, concise, and compelling enough to inspire others to take action.Great leaders possess a clear vision and focus. And they know how to communicate that vision, so others buy into it.When you communicate clearly and effectively, your team knows what to expect of you and what they need to do. Two aspects are important when communicating with your team, and it's even more important when your team is working remotely: Communicate tirelessly and listen deeply Communicating tirelessly means not waiting for big moments or big news before you communicate with your team.Communicate often and quickly, even if it simply means reaching out to your people and finding out how you can best support them.Keep your message specific and brief by speaking in headlines and sharing ONE big idea with your audience.Choose various communication channels that will work for you and your team. Listen deeply to what your team shares with you.Effective communication is a two-way street. Part of communicating tirelessly also means listening to what your team has to say. Invite your team to speak, but don't force or make anyone feel obligated to share their thoughts or opinions.Ask questions to engage your audience in a conversation.Create a safe environment for people to share their thoughts or concerns without being judged or criticized. Whether you choose to communicate more often or listen more deeply (or perhaps you decide to do both!) I hope you found the tips in today's episode helpful. If you liked what you heard today, subscribe to Communicate to Lead, so you don't miss any upcoming episodes.Website - https://thetailoredapproach.com/ctl-podcast/

In this bonus episode of All2ReelToo we have an All2Interview with comic/author/actor Steve Sabo.... Slowing down is not in Steve Sabo's vocabulary. Tirelessly working the road an astonishing 52 weeks a year, this comedy road warrior brings laughter and joy all over the nation, and beyond. No stage is too big or too small; he has performed for crowds as large as 5,000 and as small as two. First hitting the comedy stage straight out of high school at 18, he has honed his craft at comedy clubs, dirty bars, shiny casinos, military bases, cruise ships, colleges, corporate shows, fundraisers, restaurants and even a back yard or two. His comedy has universal appeal, and his experience shows it. In his 29 years as a performer, he has had the privilege of sharing the stage with comedy legends such as Joan Rivers, Chris Rock, Kevin James, Dave Attel, Jim Breuer, Christopher Titus and Tom Green. He has made television appearances on HBO, NBC, E! and Comedy Central. He is heard regularly on SiriusXM Satellite Radio and has appeared on the nationally syndicated "Sex Talk Live" , "BTS Radio Show" and "The Jiggy Jaguar Show". In addition, he landed the lead in a low-budget horror film ("Hell's Lake", currently in post-production), entertained the troops in Iraq and Kuwait, performed at 2007's "Gathering of the Juggalos", and has been seen nationally and internationally at such festivals as Gilda's "Laughfest"(three times), Calgary's "Funnyfest", "The Detroit International Comedy Festival" (twice) and "The Great Plains Comedy Festival" (twice). In all, he has performed in 46 states, 7 countries and 4 islands. He also filmed a cameo in another full length feature film, "PI Day, Die Day" , which was released theatrically on March 14, 2016. In May of 2017, he was honored to perform on "Rock on the Range", the nation's largest rock music festival, headlined by Metallica. An admitted workaholic, Sabo has released six full length comedy albums, including 2009's "A Mouthful of Sea-Monkeys" which was heralded as "One of the top ten comedy albums of 2009" according to the Serious Comedy Site. His plans to record his newest CD, "Put Away Wet" have been delayed due to Covid-19 lockdowns. However, instead of sitting on his laurels he took the opportunity to write and release his first novel, a thriller titled "Jester's Run" in late 2020 and his latest book, "How to FAIL at Stand-Up Comedy" in April of 2021. All of his releases are available on Amazon and I-Tunes. Known among his peers as a consummate professional and a comedy chameleon, he has the ability to adjust his act to his environment. Whether the situation calls for a clean show, a dirty show or something in between, he has the experience and material to satisfy any crowd. Considered adult-friendly and intelligent, his honest and observational style, topped with a high energy and frenetic pace, has made him a fan favorite from coast to coast.
