As a Board Certified OBGYN in the Houston area, Dr. Haver has delivered thousands of babies, completed thousands of well-woman exams, counseled patients, taught residents, and did everything an academic professor and OBGYN could do. As her patient population aged, Dr. Haver was overwhelmed with the number of complaints and concerns her patients had with weight gain while going through menopause. For years, she told her patients to eat less and exercise more. It wasn't until she, too, experienced the changes of menopause and mid-life weight gain that she realized this advice doesn't work and ultimately led to her creating and developing a new program, The Galveston Diet. The Galveston Diet is a nutrition program created by a Female OBGYN, designed for women in menopause. The Galveston Diet helps women reach their health and wellness goals through an anti-inflammatory approach to nutrition. Dr. Haver believes in the power of nutrition to combat inflammation and highly recommends the unlimited benefits of intermittent fasting. As part of her ongoing research, she became certified in Culinary Medicine in 2019, which specializes in medical nutrition.     Thank you for listening to the show. In this episode we interview, Catherine Anne Mazur, my wife and life partner of 45 years. I’ve watched her yoga journey and have been a personal witness to her health, well-being and personal growth as a result of her teaching and practicing two major types of yoga. For me, the practice of yoga over the past 16 years has had a profound effect my own health, well-being and spiritual growth. I call it a “system” because it’s more than just poses and “exercises.” It’s a whole system of movement, breath, mental focus and mindfulness, that’s centuries old, that works to integrate mind, body and soul. There is a science and technology to it that is unmatched. If you practice yoga, this episode will be interesting, educational and entertaining. If you don’t practice yoga, you don’t know what you are missing. If anything resonates with you, check out a studio or online class to experience the magic. For some, give it 90-days of regular practice before you decide if it’s for you. For others, you know instantly that it is right for you. Either way and to all that listen, we wish you the best on your journey to living your most inspired life! What We Discuss: • How we started down this health path? • At an early age, Catherine asked her mom, “Is cheese good for you?” • Growing up in the 50s with Wonder bread and TV dinners • Love at first “om”: Catherine’s introduction to yoga in the early 2000’s • Yoga 101. Where does one start? • Busting the “I can’t do yoga because…” myths • How yoga is not physical poses, but a system of healthy, happy living • The history of yoga • How to conduct yourself and with others • How to breathe to take care of your life force • How to control your emotions and mentality? • How to nurture your heart and brain? • Sister science of Aruveda: Living within the rhythm of the season and your body type • The different types of yoga • Yoga is NOT a religion • Specific results of specific poses, like forward fold, or downward dog, • Guidelines for finding a good yoga teacher • Online yoga options • Real life examples of yoga making a difference through all kinds of life experiences • Advice from Catherine’s current self to her younger self: Build and live an intentional, authentic life Do yoga at a younger age It’s never too late to get healthier, to start meditating, to get whatever you want… Don’t think of your limitations Take messy action! With the Trump administration and several members of Congress, including Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, considering assembling a proposed Federal Commission on School Safety to repeal 2014 guidelines regarding school disciplinary action, we thought it would be important to take a closer look at how any changes in these disciplinary actions could disproportionately affect children of color and children living with disabilities. For full show transcript, visit our site here.  What We Discuss: How school disciplinary actions affect children living with disabilities, many of whom have behavioral challenges that are involuntary Why any reconsideration of disciplinary action should include awareness of how the guidelines and rules apply to all children Why gun violence control is merely an excuse given by DeVos in order to change current disciplinary guidelines Instead of completely repealing and overhauling the current guidelines, why it's better to attempt to strengthen the current guidelines Why there is a disparity in how discipline is applied in various situations and with regards to various students Could the training of independent professionals help solve arbitrary application within schools? Sam Gold from Gold HR, has a refreshing approach to HR, and the importance for Business owners to get the best from the most precious asset - their staff. WHAT WE DISCUSS How to build a relationship with a new team How to build an open relationship where mistakes are openly shared and learnt form, rather than penalized How to manage a friendship after one of you has been promoted How to turn the tide when your team has turned against you How to maintain a good relationship with a team member while giving negative feedback How to bring your team with you when you move your business forward   ABOUT SAM Sam founded GoldHR in 2012. Her aim was to provide companies without their own internal HR expertise with no nonsense, business focused, expert HR advice in a truly flexible manner.  For most small businesses to employ a full time HR Manager or Director would be a complete luxury, and historically the only feasible option for businesses would be to engage with a solicitor or get tied into a contract with a call centre style advice line.   Sam felt that these businesses were missing out on having the value of an HR professional in their business, to not only advise on the ‘nitty gritty’ HR, such as disciplinaries and redundancies - but to be there as a listening ear to those sometimes tricky staffing situations.   Sam holds a Post Graduate Diploma and MSc in Human Resources Management, is a fully qualified Chartered Member of the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) and an Accredited Workplace Mediator.  She has worked in a variety of different businesses from a rapidly expanding start-up, to a senior HR Business partner at an large utilities provider.   Prior to setting up GoldHR, Sam was a consultant providing HR support to small and medium sized businesses in the London and South East region.  Sam is passionate about helping business owners, knowing first-hand the difficulties that employing staff can encounter, but also how amazing business can be when the people part is right.   Sam says "I set up GoldHR as I felt businesses were missing out on the value that HR can bring.  I have seen first-hand what can happen when the people part of a business goes wrong - this doesn‘t mean just a messy tribunal claim, but when the wrong people are employed, or when the structure of a business isn’t right - things start to fall apart.  We are currently a small, but perfectly formed team of HR professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds.  We all share in the belief that HR shouldn’t be bureaucratic, tick box function that restricts business growth. HR should be at the heart of every business, proactively working alongside business owners to make things happen."   CONTACT DETAILS / LINKS To find out how we can help you and your business visit our website at www.goldhr.co.uk or send me a connection request and let’s start a conversation.  Email: sam@goldhr.co.uk Website: Click here Phone: 07955 588922 Social Media Links: Facebook details - Click Here Twitter details - @SamGoldHR LinkedIn details - Click Here   If you have enjoyed this show then please leave a review.  How to leave an iTunes rating or review for a podcast from your iPhone or iPad Launch Apple's Podcast app. Tap the Search tab.
