WHO DO YOU BLAMEAshley Buchanan: On May 1, 2025, Kohl's board terminated Buchanan “for cause” following an outside investigation overseen by its Audit Committee. The investigation found that Buchanan directed Kohl's to do business with a vendor founded by someone with whom he had a personal relationship. He also caused Kohl's to enter into a multimillion-dollar consulting agreement involving that same person. Crucially, he did not disclose this personal relationship, which was a violation of Kohl's code of ethics.Golden hello: $17m equity and $3.75m cashFormer director Christine Day: Shortly after Buchanan was fired, Day resigned, citing “lack of transparency” and governance concerns. Day said she was frustrated that not all board members were kept informed of risks and that decisions seemed centralized (“Michael ‘handles' everything … then ‘tells' everyone what the decision is”). This is the $99 Kumma bear made by FoloToy using OpenAI's service. OpenAI said it was suspending Folotoy for violations of usage of ChatGPT. WHO DO YOU BLAME?:Folotoy, who's founder and CEO Larry Wang calls himself “Chief Geek Officer” and has a background in child psychology and behavioral science… oh, wait, not, he has background in computer science and was founder of a tech telecomm company and was a software developer for insurance before that. But he's obviously qualified to do this: “Kumma, our adorable bear, combines advanced artificial intelligence with friendly, interactive features, making it the perfect friend for both kids and adults. From lively conversations to educational storytelling, FoloToy adapts to your personality and needs, bringing warmth, fun, and a little extra curiosity to your day.”OpenAI - obviously Sam Altman's commitment to “the benefit of humanity” stopped short of “sex advice from baby toys,” even though he says having kids of his own will help him not destroy humanity. I assume he's not getting Sammy Jr a Kumma bear? DROpenAI's board - obviously if they had fired Sam Altman, there wouldn't be sex bears using ChatGPT. But Helen Toner was forced out by the rest of the board, investors, and public pressure - she's since said, “But for years, Sam had made it really difficult for the board to actually do that job by withholding information, misrepresenting things that were happening at the company, in some cases outright lying to the board,” and that Altman gave them, “inaccurate information about the small number of formal safety processes that the company did have in place.” Perhaps Altman said, “no, that teddy bear didn't just say he loved oral sex, that's just a misinterpretation.”Microsoft - Satya, despite misgivings from Bill Gates, threw $10bn at OpenAI in January 2023. In November 2023, the board removed Sam Altman. Turns out Microsoft had released a version of ChatGPT in India that Altman sanctioned outside of safety protocols - the board should have signed off, but Altman lied to them and hid it. But rather than Microsoft pulling back the release and recognizing the damage it could do, they swooped in and “hired” Sam Altman 3 days after his firing. Their $10bn investment might have been the first cog in a sex bear wheel.I'm the Chief People Officer at Walmart. I always wake up to the same U2 song and watch the 'Today' show. That is Donna Morris listening to U2's “Beautiful Day”, the first thing she does is go online, she doesn't drink coffee but drinks Diet Coke (“I've just never been a hot drink type of girl, I guess. I try to limit myself to two Diet Cokes a day, although every once in a while, I sneak in a third.”), she likes buying cookbooks but doesn't use them. Not mentioned: Walmart's DEI rollback, the new CEO coming in, working for a family dictatorship, and any of her colleagues - as chief people officer, there are almost zero people mentioned. WHO DO WE BLAME FOR THIS EXISTING?Professional Conservative Snowflake Robby Starbuck - he claimed Walmart as his first “victory” after Trump's election in the DEI rollback. Post-Starbuck snowflake-ism, Morris might have had a job managing humans, but now her job is basically to send pink slips and make sure there aren't TOO many swastikas in the bathroom stall. A few is fine, but c'mon. So to pass the time, Morris is stuck giving interviews to Business Insider.Business Insider, who must have known Morris had the potential to give an insipid review of her day when this was her excuse for Walmart's DEI rollback: "When you talk about diversity, equity, inclusion, all in part, there can be communities, and often the largest communities, that step back and say, 'Geez, I'm not sure if I'm even actually included'," Morris explained of the decision. Which echoes… ROBBY FUCKING STARBUCK, who said to anyone who would listen: "This is the biggest win yet for our movement to end wokeness in corporate America. This won't just have a massive effect for their employees who will have a neutral workplace without feeling that divisive issues are being injected but it will also extend to their many suppliers."Donna Morris, because as only we covered here when discussing the corporate move to blame the employees for every problem and getting fired, had this to say of her biggest red flag on an employee: “Nobody wants [to hire] a Debbie Downer. [Someone who is] constantly negative. You know they're going to show up [and] they're going to bring the problem, never the solution.” Literally, the JOB of HR is to field COMPLAINTS from employees about how their managers treat them - or is it too Debbie Downer to complain about racial discrimination of employees?Walmart's board - they must have signed off on Morris getting hired, right? Or a Walton? Someone somewhere thought this was a good idea? Take your pick:CFO of OpenAI Sarah Friar (who said OpenAI would need a government backstop, then clarified)Brian Niccol, the CEO of Starbucks who was given a golden hello, a golden parachute, and probably a golden shower, who just named to a “worst CEO” listThe current AND former CEO of WalmartSteuart Walton, who couldn't bother to even be named “Stuart” (he had to spell it with an extra “E”) with a claim to fame of marrying a Baywatch reboot actress, and Greg Penner, the son-in-law of a different Walton and snuck his way onto the board AND as co-owner of the Denver BroncosTom Horton, retired American Airlines CEO who was CFO of American for years right before they declared bankruptcy, but somehow is remembered for “restructuring” them instead of bankrupting them?Marissa Mayer - yes, that Mayer, formerly of YahooNot one, but TWO different consultantsRandall Stephenson, ex AT&T CEO, who, if I'm honest, seems to have actual integrity and I'm not sure why he's here, plus two DEI directors (because they're not white, so probably not qualified)

Angry women who rallied around the country on Friday say they're under attack from the government's sudden change to pay equity laws. The changes, rushed through parliament this week, make it harder for workers in woman- dominated professions to make a case for their pay to increase in line with equivalent jobs done by men. They've stopped 33 claims in their tracks - and many of those affected took to the streets. Rowan Quinn reports.

Colette Hamon grew up as a farm girl in an all-French-speaking town. Those days, her world revolved around wheat farming and the Catholic Church. Entrepreneurship, business growth, love, intimacy, gender roles, psychology – none of them were topics orbiting in her universe. After moving to the "big city" and earning her MBA, Hamon worked her way up the corporate ladder and saw success. But none of it fueled her fire. She founded BraTopia after recognizing a gap: the "big players" who dominated the lingerie industry were creating spaces that were not fit for the modern woman. They created discomfort, whereas Hamon wanted to promote self-acceptance and self-love. None of the brands served the woman she was or the woman she wanted her daughter to be. Have you ever thought about how a simple device, something as modest as a “dumb phone,” could bring transformative change to billions? In today's episode, we're diving into this fascinating intersection of technology, accessibility, and social impact with Anu Bhardwaj, the visionary founder of SHEQONOMI.  As the world's first and only women-led podcast platform aimed at the "bottom five billion," SHEQONOMI is making digital content and economic empowerment accessible to underserved women across the globe. From low-cost phones to inclusive content in over 50 languages, Anu's mission is to bridge the gender gap and bring education, health, and financial knowledge to women who traditionally lack access. SHEQONOMI isn't your typical podcast platform. It's specifically designed to work on low-cost mobile applications such as Jio, Cloud Phone, KaiOS, Android, and iOS. Anu's pioneering approach allows the platform to reach communities often left out of the digital revolution. Imagine being able to connect and educate through over 5,000 women-centric podcasts in diverse languages—empowering voices that span topics from health to entrepreneurship, all while rewarding users for content creation and listening. Anu also brings a profound personal story of resilience and commitment. Inspired by her daughter's questions about educational inequalities, she built this platform from scratch, even securing a prestigious $150,000 grant from the Islamic Development Bank during the pandemic. Her achievements don't stop there: from co-chairing the Blockchain for Impact Summit at the United Nations to being named one of Inc Magazine's Global Top 100 Female Founders, Anu has made it her mission to use technology to uplift women and drive positive change. So, what's next for SHEQONOMI? Anu is setting her sights on developing a "super app" for marginalized populations, integrating generative AI, and expanding partnerships to bring more voices into the conversation. Could this pioneering platform redefine digital inclusion for billions around the world? And as Anu continues to break new ground, who would she love to have a conversation with from the worlds of tech, venture capital, or social impact? Tune in to discover how SHEQONOMI is reshaping the digital landscape for underserved communities, one podcast at a time. Would you agree that technology's real power lies in its ability to unite and uplift? Let us know your thoughts!

We're back and more energized than ever! It's been a whirlwind of experiences, from electrifying stages at Essence Fest to powerful moments at the DNC. This episode of "Across Generations" is all about reflection and celebration. I open up about the importance of having spaces dedicated to Black women, where we can discuss everything from the fluidity of our sexual identities to our challenges with online dating, and even our place in the world of sports. And yes, witnessing a Black woman stepping into a position of leadership for our nation is a milestone we must acknowledge, even as we confront the harsher realities of global conflicts. Kamala Harris's recent debate performance left me in awe, and I couldn't help but reflect on my personal experiences with her. Her ability to own a room is nothing short of inspiring, and it's moments like these that remind us of the critical need for voter mobilization and awareness. I also share my thoughts on media consumption, stressing the importance of diverse news sources, like The New York Times, Al Jazeera, and The Root, while sounding a cautionary note on the often misleading world of social media. Finding the balance between staying informed and not falling into the trap of disinformation is a tightrope we all walk. Lastly, let's talk about the power of connection among Black women. We dive into how social media can be both a tool for spreading truth and a weapon for misinformation, especially against marginalized communities. It's imperative that platforms hire more native Spanish speakers to better address targeted disinformation. I also reflect on the profound sense of community I've felt at our annual retreats—a sanctuary for open dialogue and mutual support. A recent heartfelt encounter on a flight underscored just how deep our unspoken connections run. In Among Women across Worlds: North Korea in the Global Cold War (Cornell University Press, 2023), Suzy Kim follows Korean women's engagement in a broader international women's movement from the beginnings of the Korean War in the 1940s until International Women's Year in 1975. Obscured by layers of “cascading erasures,” the communist women of North Korea have been overlooked in traditional narratives of Asian and feminist history. By tracing their participation in global networks like the Women's International Democratic Federation, Kim excavates their ideas about work and family, war and peace, and imperialism and capitalism. Turning to women's magazines, traditional dance, socialist films, and the archives of international organizations, the book resurrects figures like Pak Chong-ae and the Korean Democratic Women's Union and the transnational circulation of their political, economic, and cultural contributions. Many of their ideas remain strikingly contemporary—from the equitable distribution of domestic labor to an intersectional understanding of justice—and presage debates that feminists continue to grapple with today. Female role models inside and outside the family are crucial, to develop a sense of nonchalance and self-evident attitude towards gender equality. Wise women of previous generations have insights and knowledge that is of great importance to pave the path for younger ones to dare to try and reach new territories, yet always remembering their save harbors. Having a strong woman in a previous generation, has impact on following generations of women within the family. A feeling of yes we can, if grandma could. This feeling is of great importance and one of the reasons for generations of strong women, within a single family. Seeing other women accomplishing things outside the box, is empowering and inspiring. It further takes away lots of self-doubts and some of the pressure to conform. Women across the world have passed on their wisdom to younger generations. This tradition is of immense value, not only for young women themselves, but their families, and their entire societies. Strong women have shaped societies and cultures around the world. The more we keep these women in mind and strive to conquer new territories, the more we can achieve for future generations and present female selves. The more we live up to our strong female heritage, the less exposed we feel and the better we can shelled off the winds, blowing from all directions. Internalising the nonchalance of our great grandmothers fighting for rights, completely unimaginable. It show us how we can change the world to a more gender equal place. The rights and benefits our great grandmothers achieve, so often is neglected. We take many things for granted.  It's important to keep fighting for freedom, not all women around the world have the responsibility rights they deserve to have. @unesurcent @drschwank @optimalperformancezurich

Susan Freese (founder and president of All In Ministries International) talked to us about healthy short term missions. You can more wisely steward your short-term missions to make a long-term impact with one addition: discipling indigenous women. Worldwide women believers do not know they are loved, valued, or have a divine purpose of enjoying God and exalting Him by making disciples. When you intentionally invest in local women—they are radically and fundamentally changed. They'll risk their lives to spread the gospel to their families, communities, and closed spaces. That's because women are "keepers of religion" in many cultures—yet few people invest in women.

EP222: These Blueberries Are Empowering Women Across The Entire Agriculture Pipeline With Beth Bocock, Co-Owner Of Bumbleberry Acres

“We want to see farms like yours be very successful and profitable because your profit directly relates to our ability to create a more sustainable, healthy planet and continue to access and grow food.”   Lori Taylor (16:12-16:37)   Beth Bocock went from saying, “I'll never marry a farmer!” to becoming one of the second owners of Bumbleberry Acres with her husband, working for Naturipe and being the head of Bumbleberry's agritourism. The farm, originally 600 acres and now 44, had been around since 1857 and caught Beth and her husband's eye when they were driving and saw a “for sale'' sign. Immediately after buying, they asked their kids, “what would you want to do if you came here to work? If this was a vacation destination, what would you want to see?”   This helped inspire the Bococks' to add a petting zoo of miniature animals to the farm, opening the door for Bumbleberry to become a wonderful, family-friendly destination. When visitors arrive at Bumbleberry, they're taken care of by the “Bumbleberry Girls” who are specifically trained to interact with customers and treat them like family. The girls know every inch of the farm, from the dirt, to the berries and how they are grown. Beth's focus with the girls (they hire three every year) is to empower them to learn where things on the farm come from, so visitors too can always be learning every step of the way through their experience.    “It was important for us that families do not feel like they're going to a farm and getting nickel-and-dimed to death.” Beth Bocock (7:41-7:48)   What's it like spending a day at Bumbleberry Acres? Visitors can enjoy activities like the U-pick for blueberries, a corn maze and wagon ride around fall, delicious food with ingredients straight  from the farm, and plenty of blueberry pies during their Blueberry Festival in August. Beth really wants visitors to understand where food really comes from, how we're helping take care of the planet, and the responsibility and respect to her kids that comes with providing these products to consumers.    Did you know more than half of the world's profits from produce items are not getting back to growers? Farmers are dealing with profit crunches the same way we're dealing with a sudden rise in all of our expenses, and to not have the amount of profit they deserve hitting their pockets could damage our entire agricultural supply chain.    Beth also works with Naturipe Farms, who you know from past episodes is a great place full of empowered women! Beth says there are many more women involved at the company and farming in general than there were 20 years ago. She used to go to meetings with her husband and there'd only be a few other women in there, and women speakers were unheard of. But today you'll even see women running a farm after their husband has passed away, completely uninhibited and capable of performing any of the tasks on a farm.   “We pay particular attention to the girls because we want to give them a stepping stone to be empowered women. We look at girls not like they're unemployable by someone else, but that they're not going to get the same education we're going to teach them to be strong women.” Beth Bocock (27:03-27:13)   Beth wants Bumbleberry to empower women just as well as Naturipe has. Every girl they interview to work on the farm is looked at for their potential for future leadership, not just their personality and resume. Beth takes note of how they interact with people, how compassionate they are, and it's paid off. Of the 36 girls they've hired, each have gone into a position of leadership in or outside of farming.    Whether it's empowering consumers to understand where their food comes from and how to support farmers, empowering women to accomplish anything they want in agriculture (from the field to CFO), or empowering farmers to make the profits they deserve, Beth Bocock, Blueberry Acres and Naturipe Farms all are doing incredible things to create empowered opportunities for all.   How to get involved Join The Produce Moms Group on Facebook and continue the discussion every week!  Reach out to us - we'd love to hear more about where you are in life and business! Because there are so many AH Hah's about leadership.  DR Rhouba Mhaissen on “they started calling me a leader so I realised I would have to behave like one”, Erica Su on “have the courage to self define your story and not worry about people thinking you are self limiting. It's your story no one else's “ and Folawe Omikunle talking about her head teacher who showed her what “leading with love” meant so that she has done it ever since.

"You are overly sensitive, don't be so dramatic," or "you feel so much" are some things women have heard quite often for the last couple of centuries. Those statements, plus the ingrained oppressive culture we've been raised in, conspire to boost our self-doubt and diminish our opinion of ourselves. Our guest, Jill Douka, believes that how we perceive ourselves is the leading cause why women are afraid of tapping into our best version and being open to the possibility of living our best lives. Jill has trained, coached, and mentored thousands of people in Europe, the USA, and Asia. She is the International Bestselling Author of Create Love, bestselling author of How to Create Your Life and Suddenly Now, a Business Mentor Awarded by the European Union, and the Director of the Global Academy of Coaching. Jill holds an MBA in Business Administration and is an MCC (Master Certified Coach) accredited by the International Coaching Federation. We had a fantastic conversation about the power most women have and are, in a certain way, afraid to acknowledge, why most of us keep on sabotaging ourselves, and the much-needed paradigm change only feminine energy can produce in the world. Jill kindly shared her latest book's main topics; we discussed the power of joy, the importance of ignoring what others think of us, and how teaching the right values to our kids can enormously impact society.
