Dr. Fiona Lovely is a longevity, health and wellness expert with specialties in menopause medicine, functional neurology and functional medicine. She is speaking to the topics of women's health around perimenopause and menopause. Today I welcome functional nutritionist and educator Andrea Nakayama to the show. It was delightful to meet her face to face as she was one of my fav early podcasters! We discussed many contemporary concerns with healthcare and our solutions. We talked about anemia in women as a frequently overlooked concern, with dehydration being a significant interconnected factor (did you know? I didn't!) Personalised medicine, based on the mantra "everything is connected, we are all unique, and all things matter" vs. protocol-driven approaches was explored in this chat. We discussed the importance of understanding bioindividuality through the epigenome and individual life history. The conversation reframed longevity as living well and with purpose, advocating for engagement with individual needs. It seems that as we no longer need to discuss the symptoms of menopause, we move on to wanting to live our lives better, happier and healthier. Longevity is that flex! [SEGMENT 1-1] Election Runup 1 Where was all that enthusiasm for Harris we were told about? Colonial Metals Group [X] SB – Benny Johnson Thousands at her rallies. The Left attempted to tell us that Trump rallies were empty. I will discuss blatant lies more in just a bit. And as you already know, there were MANY. We were told that Harris didn't hire anybody, but then I see all the buses… [SEGMENT 1-2] Election Runup 2 [X] SB – Early voting update in PA 700k less than where they were in 2020 350K less than 2022 NC: Trump up over 50% Early voting, Republicans ahead in NC. Never happened Black turnout is WAY down. Same in Pittsburg and Philly 25-30% of those are voting for Trump. [SEGMENT 1-3] Election Runup 3 [X] SB – Andrea Mitchell blames misogyny for Harris loss Make it look respectable. Sponsors That's all the cabal can do at this point, because NOBODY believes Harris can beat Trump. Recap of Trump's history with Democrats You have known for months that Trump can't be beaten. Democrats dumped Biden partially because of Biden, but mostly because the public figured out that they couldn't lie Biden into office again. Nobody believes Biden beat Trump, but they sold that lie. HUGE MISTAKE. Democrats thought by defeating Trump in 2020 he would go away. But he's FAR MORE DANGEROUS today. Notice, they never tried to assassinate him while he was running or even when he served. They did mini-lawfare, and ultimately took him out in the bloodless coup. RFK Jr, Elon Musk, Tulsi Gabbard… Not dumb people. Trump signs being hidden. But this time is different. You FEEL it, and haven't wanted to jinx it. But if you KNEW that elections were fair, you would have thrown victory parties, and not watch parties. Superstitious, skeptical, burnt by the past, you refused to trust your gut. Challenging our assumptions about painWhen Jackie Gonzalez was just young, doctors assumed that she was pining for attention when she restlessly tried to rub her feet and describing that she was in constant pain. It wasn't until she was a teenager that doctors and scientists diagnosed her with Erythromelalgia, also known as ‘Man on Fire Syndrome'. It's a rare condition, and even rarer for people to be born with it, like Jackie was. But what if this uncommon ailment could be cured with the help of an even less common animal?Dr. Kaylee Byers sits down with Adele Gonzalvez from the University of Sydney on her work to understand the genetic properties of platypus venom. How do you feel about structure in your business? Do you love it… or do you feel like you're “allergic” to structure? (Let me know in the comments below!) Whether you naturally gravitate towards structure or not, I invite you to check out these core structure strategies that will help you:
**Podcast Summary:** In this episode, we explore the idea of the Victor Mindset, a belief system based on self-agency, personal power, and mind control to shape one's future. I'll contrast the Victim Mindset, characterized by powerlessness and blame, leading to a sense of hopelessness. Essential elements of nurturing a Victor Mindset introduced include personal responsibility for thoughts, feelings, and choices and understanding that thoughts are a powerful tool for change. Additionally, we underline the concept that thoughts aren't always true and stress the power of choice in determining which thoughts to hold on to. **Key Points:** - A Victor Mindset is founded on personal responsibility for my thoughts, feelings, and choices. - The Victim Mindset attributes all failures and misfortunes out of their control, sapping you of your power. - You're not a victim of your thoughts. You can choose your thoughts. - Step into your power with the Victor Mindset Formula: You Think > You Feel > You Choose - Change your thoughts to change your future using the law of exchange, where you swap the victim thought for a victor thought. **Useful Links:** - *Andy Andrews' book, The Noticer: https://amzn.to/3Drz31c - Earl Nightingale's quote on mindset: https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/644-we-become-what-we-think-about-most-of-the-time *Amazon affiliate link; I will receive a small commission if you purchase through this link.
Growing up we hear that we should be conscientious of how WE make OTHER people feel...sometimes at the cost of our own discomfort. This thought process subconsciously facilitates a stifling of our own feelings. And quite frankly, that's nokay. It's time you take notice in how OTHERS make YOU FEEL. Have you ever taken the time to notice how you feel? Music by: AlexGrohl from Pixabay Music_Unlimited from Pixabay AudioCoffee from Pixabay Anton_Vlasov from Pixabay Editing by Sith-Web

I wanted to talk about something that I have found to be absolutely transformative in my life and creating changes. It's things that are very very easily overlooked but can really make a huge difference in how you feel in, and about yourself! The reason i'm wanting to talk about it today is because i've had a really big focus on it this year and the difference has been huge. These things become even more important if you're going through a turbulent time, which also makes them easy to ignore or forget about so it does require a little bit of effort on your part. But i'm going to help you make it as easy as possible. Now, what are these THINGS I keep talking about? That will be TOTALLY individual to you. But it's the things that make you feel GOOD. Not just good in general but good about your SELF. The things that make you feel good in your own skin. The things that lead to more confidence. The things that lead to you having a different posture. The things that make you trust yourself more. You see the knock on effects? They're huge. And all the while you're rewiring these feelings of self trust, self compassion, self confidence to be your new normal, and trust me when I say feeling this way spills out onto everything that you do. 2023 is the year of me. But that's just because it's fun to say and reminds me of the focus. It's about habits. It's how you talk to yourself and how you treat yourself and what you know you want and need to feel your best. For me it's things like making sure I get to the gym and spa. Firstly because as soon as I drive into the entrance and see the trees I physically feel my nervous system shift. When I was really going through it before and during my break up it really was my sanctuary. It was my escape. It was where I could focus on me and have the space that I needed to look after myself. I make sure I get there 3-4 days per week. Perhaps you have somewhere like that? Somewhere where you just feel safe and calm and in control. Knowing what you need to do to take care of yourself? It might be a friends house, with family, it might be a place in the woods that you walk to, somewhere with a view that calms you right down? It can be as simple as a favourite cafe. You FEEL the physical shift when you're there. Notice that and notice how you feel about yourself in those moments. Another one for me is getting out on the river on my paddle board. I find being in and around water incredibly regulating and I also feel good that i'm being active. Funnily enough, because it's the polar opposite energy, is making sure i'm in London 2-3 days per week. For me it reminds me who I am. It reminds me of the opportunity and vibrancy that is available to me. It means i'm spending time with people, new friends and old. It makes me feel like me. But I definitely start to tip over the edge after a few days without my green spaces. I've talked about this before but little things like making sure I look after my skin and moisturise every day makes me feel amazing. Using the posh stuff…just because it's Wednesday! In the year of me that's where my money goes too. So every time I buy something I ask myself, is this going to make me feel good? Put simply it's looking after yourself and allowing yourself to know you're worth the effort! For me at the moment it's all about me time, exercise, relaxation and regulation, skincare, But it's not about how you look…it's about how you FEEL…which incidentally changes the way you look anyway ha! I've had a fair few people tell me now that i've got more of a ‘glow' about me…and i'm not mad about it! I can't tell you what a huge effect that has on everything else. Including how you show up with other people. Another thing i've been doing, which I kind of touched on in a recent episode, is allowing myself to be more in the moment. Take things day by day. This has allowed me to open myself up to some things that I would never have been able to do before. And i'm not gonna lie…i'm having a lot of fun with it! Less in my head, more in my body. So have a think about what some of the little things might be for you. It really doesn't matter how small. Practice saying ‘will this make me feel good' before doing or buying things. See how much it changes how you feel about yourself and your outlook. Fx
We've been discussing the term you've probably heard a lot about and yet very few if any tell you exactly how this frequency or vibration issue works. As you should know by now, even modern science tells us that everything has a frequency: your house, your car, your body, your business, your bank account... in our last session we discussed raising your mental frequency. Now let's discuss something vastly more powerful—your emotional frequency. First, it's important to realize that your emotions are “energy in motion” they move the body to action. Emotion is the term we put upon feeling which is the actual frequency. Feelings and frequencies are visceral. You FEEL them in the body. The challenge that most don't realize in Personal Performance and Leadership is that there are only two ways to change a frequency. Change your feeling or utilize sound. “And God SAID...” That's another topic for another day. It's important to realize that every single feeling frequency has a neurological impulse that shoots through your entire physical body. That impulse/frequency either strengthens you or weakens you... there is no neutral. This was proven by the research of Dr. David Hawkins. For instance, one bout of anger (a very low and disempowering frequency) has a disempowering impact on your body for 6 hours. Not a good choice for a reaction in traffic. Love and gratitude on the other hand are scientifically proven to improve your brain, your mood, and your body. Changing your feelings is complicated because your feeling mind is your UCM and it drives 95% of your daily actions. Most of what's lodged in your UCM are unresolved emotional issues, traumas and things that have been handed to us by outside sources early in life. So, if we want to change our emotional frequency, we have to do the work to make the UC conscious. It's work. But it's well worth it. Ask yourself: Where did I learn this emotional reaction? Why is this upsetting me so much? Is this my true feelings or is it something I was given by my parents, clergy, school system, social environment and so forth. Recognition is the first law of learning and transformation. When you recognize you need to change, then you're empowered to change. Until you recognize it you won't. Marilyn Monroe broke through as an actress in 1950 with small, but acclaimed roles in All About Eve and The Asphalt Jungle. She was then a mistress of Johnny Hyde, head of the William Morris Agency. Hyde negotiated a seven year contract with 20th Century Fox and then unexpectedly passed away of a heart attack. In 1951, Monroe had supporting roles in three Fox comedies: As Young as You Feel, Love Nest, and Let's Make It Legal. With her star on the rise, she received several thousand fan letters a week, and was declared "Miss Cheesecake" by the army newspaper Stars and Stripes. In early 1952 as she began a much-publicized romance with ex-Yankee Joe DiMaggio, Monroe revealed she'd posed nude in 1949, thus getting ahead of the scandal and gaining sympathy from the public. She explained she'd been broke and needed the money and was soon featured on the cover of Life magazine as the "Talk of Hollywood." Gossip columnist Hedda Hopper declared her the "cheesecake queen" turned "box office smash." Wanting to improve her acting, she studied hard with Michael Chekhov. Two of Monroe's films — Clash by Night and Don't Bother to Knock — were released soon after to capitalize on public interest. The films showed her range, as Monroe played a fish cannery worker in the former and a disturbed babysitter in the latter. In Howard Hawks's Monkey Business, she played a secretary opposite Cary Grant. In O. Henry's Full House, with Charles Laughton, she appeared in a passing vignette as a nineteenth-century street walker. Monroe added to her sex symbol reputation by wearing a revealing dress when acting as Grand Marshal at the Miss America Pageant parade, and told gossip columnist Earl Wilson that she usually wore no underwear. By the end of the year, gossip columnist Florabel Muir named Monroe the "it girl" of 1952. When Niagara was released in January 1953, women's clubs protested it as immoral. In some scenes, Monroe's body was covered only by a sheet or a towel, considered shocking by contemporary audiences. The film's most famous scene is a long shot of Monroe from behind walking with hips swaying. Audiences turned out in droves. The next month, Marilyn Monroe was the guest of Dean and Jerry's February 24th, 1953 episode.

Ever had a good day turn into a bad day? Have you ever planned a special day and missed out on all the fun because of your bad mood? When you plan something that matters, and you're excited about it beforehand, but when the day comes, are you expecting the worst, the other shoes going to drop or are you expecting it to be a great day? I'm talking about how to turn a good day into a great one. Let's be honest; most of us have had good days turn into bad days. So today is for you if: If you want to enjoy your day, especially those special days you plan, instead of your mood ruining it. If you desire to take a good day to a great day and not a good day to a bad day. If you're ready for life to work for you instead of feeling like it's against you. Yesterday we had a date day planned. It had been two months since our last one, so we were really looking forward to this special day. When I was about to get ready, I realized my mood was sinking lower and lower. The funny thing is I woke up that morning thinking, “what if something happens to ruin the day.” I had a choice at that moment. I could choose to continue down the mulligrubs trail, or I could shift my mood. This leads me to the first way you can turn a good day into a great one. 1. You are in control of you Yes, you are in control of yourself…that includes your mood. Our mind–our thoughts–controls our brain, and our brain controls our body. We can use this to our advantage. Dr. Caroline Leaf, a neuroscientist, says, “You Think > You Feel > You Choose.” I choose to shift my mood by changing my thoughts and playing some happy music. That changed everything, and my sullen mood lifted. 2. Pre-prep your mindset One of the best ways to help you choose the right thoughts so you can enjoy your day to the fullest is to predetermine what could go wrong and how you will handle it if it does. Ask: What could trip me up today? Then ask: How would my best self deal with that? 3. Expect a great day Sometimes we're afraid to look forward to something because we assume something will go wrong. “If I don't get excited, then I won't get disappointed.” But you're starting out disappointed! You're afraid of what MIGHT happen. But it might NOT. Allow yourself to expect a great day. 4. Roll with the punches Yes, stuff will happen. But choose to roll the punches and believe for good to come out of it. Roll with the punches and believe God that good is going to come out of it (Romans 8:28). You can turn a good day into a great day instead of letting a good day turn into a bad day. We've all heard, “You are what you eat.” But what about, “You FEEL what you eat”? Put another way, how much of Americans' struggle with depression and anxiety is due to our diet? To tackle this question, I've invited Functional Medicine Health Coach Amanda Jones to the program. In our conversation, Amanda and I take issue with the Standard American Diet and Western Medicine's conventional approach. Specifically, we ask: Is minimizing symptoms and slowing down disease progression the best we can do? Why do we look for sustainability and root causes in various social and environmental domains, but when it comes to healthcare, we still just treat symptoms instead of discovering the origins of a problem? Why don't we pay enough attention to drugs' side effects? Are uncomfortable and painful symptoms actually a gift? What if a runny nose and high fever are an indication our body is healing itself and our immune system is working well? Can we really expect to heal if we make no changes to our diet and lifestyle? What is the impact of diet on emotional well-being and mental health? Join us to learn how nutrition and lifestyle will level up your emotional well-being! There is one expert on your mental health. YOU. You know when you're not right. Pinpointing why can be the challenge. You FEEL the stress and anxiety constantly. It impacts your daily decisions, productivity, motivation, the things that create your balance, your equilibrium. But do you consciously know each and every contributor to your overall sense of imbalance? Chances are…No. This episode is about TRIGGERS.
If a trainer tells me they hit a plateau and can't get more clients, I ask them about their email list. If you aren't working on growing that email list, chances are that's a large part of why. Before you get more sales skills, you want to attract more people, more on that in a minute. The Problem with a Small List is…. If you're in a “launch” with few people, and then you “launch” again with the same people there may be a small number who say yes. It wasn't the best time for them before and it is now. They were people who needed a little more time to know and trust you before deciding. But you'll also be losing a small percent of them which you should expect. If you don't lose subscribers every time you email, you're probably not emailing enough. Those people are not seeing all your posts every day, you know. They're busy. They want the news delivered with white gloves and that is why they subscribed to email. They may not like social media. So, while you think they see and hear that and your daily message is enough, it's not true. … You can't get more clients online. 3 Reasons You Can't Get More Clients Online, boil down to this: The email list you have now is small or abandon You're attracting anyone too broad a group on social Inconsistent habits (you're busy but not productive) Here's what to focus on: 1) You need to grow your email list Have a freebie that peeks interest and desire (my freebie builder cheat sheet) Make sure you're sharing relevant social content and suggesting it as a CTA for those who want more Have a profile page with links directly to it (no ugly URLs someone will never remember that only your mother would go to the trouble of tediously entering – if she would!) 2) You need to attract the right kind of people to your social (first step before email) Have you reviewed who you attract? Do you clearly tell who this is for and who it's not? 3) You aren't focusing on the right things consistently. If you focus on your social media more than you focus on your customers and business, something is definitely WRONG! Are You Addicted? To be honest, does it give you a little adrenaline hit when your video got XXX views on Tik Tok? Or frustrated you when you spend half an hour creating a reel and it doesn't get much of anything? Your time and your energy can get sucked into social media and it's not going to move the needle for you. Let's keep in mind that while it's necessary, it's something that takes a dedicated 15 minutes twice a day and between you really need to be building the business behind it. There's a difference between not being consistent and being strategic. You'll see sometimes if you followed me on Instagram, I don't share every day. I usually do, but when I either have something that didn't get much traffic I thought would, is getting a lot of traffic, or it's a date that warrants a little longer time, I purposefully won't post for a day or two leaving room for prior posts to gain traction. But I will add them to the story again to increase engagement. I have an action challenge for you. What do you need to focus on? Do you have a funnel that converts? I'd focus on that before I built a course. Do you have a system you've proven with yourself, and then tested on a pool of others for testimonials and proof that it works? Do you have copy that defines your unique difference? There are a million options for how to exercise, why you? DECIDE. That's the action. Decide where you really will get the biggest wins from focusing on and then do… Monitor your time on social media and if your brain is constantly flirting with it, you're probably not getting anything else done. I'm going to link to the resources mentioned in this episode. Before you visit it, my hope is that you're walking or working out, because for me at least, that's when I listen and get tons of clarity … not when I'm sitting at my desk. And not when I'm moving through a Bootcamp-like set of crazy moves. Quick Tip I know you've turned up the speed on those social videos to show a lot of moves, energy, and not give a whole workout… but have you stopped to think that they relay a “frenzied” kind of feeling that makes people think you're a crazy intensity frenzied-pace kind of trainer? What do you make viewers FEEL? That's the question of the day! And… how does social media make YOU FEEL? Spend less time on it and more on your business so it converts when you reach them. If you can't get more fitness clients online right now I hope this episode has been helpful. Resources Mentioned in this episode: How to Build a Better Freebie (freebie, how meta is that!?) 239: Ten Days to Self-Esteem, Featuring Dawn O’Meally Dawn O’Meally is a licensed mental health professional from Westminster, Maryland who purchased my book, Ten Days to Self-Esteem workbook (link) as well as the Ten Days to Self-Esteem Leader’s Manual for at a workshop she attended in 2002. This is a 10-class self-esteem training program for patients and the general public. The groups can be led by a therapist or lay person. This book was the basis of a large and successful treatment program at the hospital where I practiced in Philadelphia. Dawn described reading the books and telling herself, “I can do this!” Since that time, she has conducted roughly four Ten Days groups per year. The improvement in her patients has been phenomenal, due, in large part, to her spark, creativity, and gift for teaching and inspiring individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem. In the podcasts she takes us through the first seven steps of the ten-step program, and reads testimonials from patients like Julie who wrote: “I had many WOW moments. This book is my bible!” If you are interested in setting up a similar program in your area, feel free to contact Dawn at dao@tcc4change.com. I think it is fair to say that today’s podcast is electrifying, and filled with the same excitement that Dawn brings to her patients! Dawn describes herself as a little like Miss Frizzle with her Magic Schoolbus. I’m not personally familiar with Miss Frizzle but it does sound like fun, exciting, and creative, three strong characteristics of Dawn. She describes how she makes patients accountable, requiring a $50 deposit they can earn back by coming to groups on time and doing their homework (HW). As a group, they also do a Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) on the Advantages and Disadvantages of doing the HW, and review the list of really GOOD reasons for NOT doing the HW in the book, with each member ticking off the ones that resonate with their own thinking. She said some of the most popular ones are: I’m afraid of what might happen if I DO change. I believe that others are to blame for my problems, so why should I have to change? I don’t trust Dr. Burns! I’m not convinced the exercises in this book will really make a difference in my life. Dawn described several of the “steps” in the group, including the exciting steps on “You FEEL the Way You THINK” and “You can CHANGE the Way You Feel.” She said that members found the lesson on healthy vs unhealthy negative feelings illuminating, and the lesson on the Acceptance Paradox was mind-blowing. The group trains participants in 15 techniques for crushing distorted thoughts, and some of the popular ones include the CBA, Examine the Evidence, the Double Standard Technique, and the Acceptance Paradox. She described the feared and famous “Mirror Method,” where patients pass a mirror around the group and each one has to look into it and verbalize his or her negative thoughts, like “I’m a failure,” and “I’m the worst mother on the planet.” Then they have to talk back to that thought, using the second person, “You,” as they talk to themselves in a more realistic and compassionate manner. She also does the T = Testing at each group session, tracking changes in depression, anxiety, and relationship satisfaction and sees significant reductions in scores on the mood tests by the end of the program. She also gives each participant a “report card” at the end of the program so they can see how much they progressed. Participants FEEL so much better! At the start of the group she tells participants, “If you attend the groups and do the exercises in the book, you WILL change. This material can’t not have a huge impact on your life.” She said that at the end of the ten sessions, the participants see that this really did happen. She emphasized that she greatly prefers treating people in groups, but calls them “classes” due to the stigma of “group therapy.” I, David, strongly agree, as this has been my experience as well. With a skillful group leader, and great material, magic becomes possible! Dawn has done much more, creating follow-up groups for interested patients, as well as a new program based on my new book, Feeling Great (link), so we hope to have an encore appearance from this bubbly and brilliant woman! Learn to Allow the TOUGH emotion: www.steadfastlifecoaching.com BIG BELIEF is just so scary because it creates opportunity for BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! I suppose you could just believe small, achieve small, love small, and live small, but if you're reading this - those kinds of solutions are not an option for you! The best solution is to build your CAPACITY to feel disappointment so that when it does show up, it doesn't have such a devastating impact. How do you do that? You FEEL it! You don't buffer it, you don't resist it, and you don't appease it. You ALLOW it. In this episode Whit discusses the BIG DISAPPOINTMENT she felt after choosing the BIG BELIEF that she was pregnant. She holds nothing back as she walks you through the practical steps and the emotional experience of befriending her disappointment. "As I continue to practice allowing ALL emotion, my life gets fuller, richer, and more authentic." - Whit
We get a lot of questions around setting energetic boundaries. What that looks like. What that feels like. And how to do the damn thang! 1. Get crystal clear on your needs + desires 2. Show up for yourself - prioritize your feelings + emotions 3. Speak your truth - unapologetically 4. Say NO We all know what we DON’T want. What is it that you DO want. What are your needs, your true desires, your values - in ALL areas of your life? What are your DEEPEST desires? What is it that you actually want for yourself? When you SHOW UP as the person of already having/being/achieving your deepest desires. You FEEL it and you BECOME it. When you show up from that place, we don’t accept anything less then. This is your foundation to your truth. Respect your feelings. Respect your needs. Respect your truth. Hold yourself in the space of kindness and compassion. Say NO when something doesn’t align with your Highest and Best Self. Say NO when you are energetically unavailable. Say NO when you are emotionally unavailable. When you respect yourself and set your energetic boundaries, others will do the same. Oracle Card Deck: Mystic Rebel Crystal Deck by The Merhipsy
Corona Cast 8: Live Therapy with Dan. How Could You Treat an “Existential Depression” in the Midst of a Pandemic? Today David and Dr. Jill Levitt feature live work with Dan, a licensed clinical social worker who’s been struggling with an “existential depression” for 15 years, but it has been recently exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The session took place in one hour and forty minutes on a Tuesday evening on July 23rd, 2020, in David’s and Jill’s Tuesday training group at Stanford. Live personal work is one form of training that is vital to professional growth and learning, so it is extremely beneficial for the person who volunteers for the role of “patient.” At the same time, the live work also provides superb learning for those observing the process, since you can see what is really happening during a T.E.A.M. therapy session. Hopefully, you will learn a great deal as you listen to Dan’s live and uncensored therapy session. Jill and I feel very grateful to Dan for allowing us to publish such an intensely painful and personal experience. You will likely feel grateful to Dan as well! All live therapy sessions tend to be dramatic and illuminating from a variety of perspectives. Today’s session is unique in that the A = Assessment of Resistance was outstanding and unique. The remarkable changes that occurred would not have been possible without outstanding E = Empathy and A = Assessment of Resistance, which were stellar. However, the M = Methods portion of the session was also strong, especially in the use of humor and role-reversals during the Externalization of Voices to blast Dan’s Negative Thoughts out of the water. That portion of the session confirmed by the three basic tenants of cognitive therapy: You FEEL the way you THINK. All of your negative feelings are caused by your thoughts in the here-and-now, and not by the actual events in your life. In other words, the COVID-19 pandemic cannot “cause” anyone to feel depressed or anxious. Depression and anxiety are the world’s oldest cons. When you’re depressed, anxious, or angry, the Negative Thoughts that upset you will not be valid. They’ll be distorted and illogical. Depression and anxiety are the world’s oldest cons. You can see the ten cognitive distortions I first published in my book, Feeling Good, at the bottom of Dan’s Daily Mood Log (link). You can CHANGE the way you FEEL. The very instant you stop believing your distorted thoughts, your feelings will change. Recovery is not a long, drawn-out process that requires weeks, months, years or decades, as so many people believe, including the majority of mental health professionals. Recovery happens in a flash, an unexpected “ah-ha” moment when your perceptions of the world are suddenly transformed. You will witness such an event in today’s session. Now let’s see what actually happened! T = Testing Take a look at Dan’s Brief Mood Survey (BMS) at the start of the session. He was feeling moderate to severe depression, no suicidal impulses, and just a little anxiety and anger. His Happiness score was quite low, only 7 out of 20, paralleling his depression score of 12, and his satisfaction with his relationship with his wife was a perfect 30 out of 30. He indicated he’d been doing a lot of psychotherapy homework. This, by the way, is the latest version of the BMS. We’ll ask him to complete it again at the end of the session to see what changes occurred during the session. Because the BMS asks how Dan is feeling “right now,” it’s like an emotional x-ray machine, allowing therapists to see exactly how much, or how little, a patient is changing at every therapy session. The patient’s scores at the start of the next session also allow the therapist to see exactly what happens between sessions in multiple dimensions. At the end of today’s session, Dan will also fill out the Evaluation of Therapy Session (ETS), and rate Jill and David on Empathy, Helpfulness, and Session Satisfaction, and indicate how willing he is to do psychotherapy homework, whether he had unexpressed negative feelings during the session, and whether he had difficulty filling out any of the survey questions honestly. The BMS and ETS are invaluable tools that have been game-changers in psychotherapy. To my way of thinking, it is difficult, if not impossible, to do good therapy, much less outstanding therapy, without these powerful and extremely accurate tools. They have the potential to radically transform clinical work and have been an important key in the evolution of TEAM. E = Empathy After briefly reviewing Dan’s starting scores on the BMS, Jill and David empathized while reviewing the Daily Mood Log that Dan filled out prior to the start of the session. The upsetting event was sitting at home on a Friday night with nothing to do, since his wife was studying for an upcoming exam. He points out that when he’s busy doing therapy, he generally feels fine, but sometimes when he has nothing specific to do, intense negative feelings suddenly hit him and take all the joy out of life. As you can see, his feelings on his Daily Mood Log are similar to his feelings on the Brief Mood Survey but some are far more intense, since he’s focusing on a moment of angst. If you look at his Negative Thoughts, you will see that they all revolve around a common theme that life has no meaning, since people are suffering and dying all over the world, and since all of us will also die one day. He says, “the good things that happen are just like dust in the wind,” and tells himself that “life is unfair.” Dan explains that in the last couple of years he’s experienced several painful events. He got married, but got divorced after just three months when things did not work out with his wife. But he’d sold his condo, and his practice was not going well, and he could barely pay his bills, so he had to move back home with his mother, who then died of cancer. Then, right after she died, things suddenly took a turn in a far more positive direction. He began dating and found an extremely loving and wonderful woman in 2017, whom he married last October, and his clinical practice began to blossom around the same time, so he and his wife were able to purchase a new home. But still, the Negative Thoughts kept popping unexpectedly into his mind, and they can turn feelings of joy (“Wow! I really came back”) into despair in an instant (“I’ll probably lose everything again, and it makes no difference because I’ll eventually die.") David pointed out this is a little like PTSD, when you’re suddenly reminded of a previous trauma and get overwhelmed by angst. And the frequency and intensity of these sudden despair attacks have increased since the start of the pandemic. Dan gave Jill and David an “A” on empathy after about 30 minutes of listening without trying to “help,” and this was a sign that we could move on to the next portion of the session. A = Assessment of Resistance Jill asked Dan if he wanted help tonight, or needed more time to talk and vent. He said he was ready to roll up his sleeves and get to work. His goal was to reduce or eliminate his negative thoughts and feelings, if that was possible. Jill asked if he’d press a “Magic Button,” if that would cause all of his negative thoughts and feelings to instantly disappear completely, with no effort, and he said he would. Almost everyone says they’d push it—which is completely understandable. When you’re in great pain, we all want relief! Jill indicated that we did have powerful tools, but weren’t convinced it would be such a good idea to use them to eliminate Dan’s feelings, and suggested we might first make a list of indicating: What each negative thought and feeling showed about Dan and his core values that were positive and awesome. How his negative thoughts and feelings might be helping him. Doing this skillfully is an art form, since it is radically different from the inept “cheerleading” so many therapists and family members attempt when a loved one is feeling down. You will hear this process unfolding when you listen to the audio of the session. Notice how Dan’s memories of the death of his older brother when he was just three years old and the recent death of his mother bring tears to his eyes, and help him change the way he thinks about his angst, not as something “bad,” but as something beautiful that honors his mother and his brother who passed away. But this is just the tip of the iceberg, as a long list of positives emerges during this portion of the session, which is designed to melt away subconscious “resistance” to change. The A = Assessment of Resistance is really the secret key that opens the door to the possibility of rapid, profound, and lasting change. David and Jill make it look easy, but it is, in reality, quite challenging to learn, because it goes against the very grain of our human inclination to try to “help.” Instead, Jill and David are assuming the role of Dan’s resistance, and showing him, in a gentle and loving way, that his negative thoughts and feelings are not actually symptoms of a defect or “mental disorder, but are really the manifestation of something positive and beautiful about Dan. David and Jill are selling Dan on the status quo and are still NOT trying to “help.” Paradoxically, this procedure typically has the opposite effect of greatly intensifying the patient’s determination to change. But now, the therapists have put Dan into a confusional state, and bind. On the one hand, he desperately wants to change. He doesn’t want to continue throwing cold water on the cherished positive moments in his life. But at the same time, if he presses the Magic Button, all of the positives will go down the drain along with his negative feelings. This is resolved with the Magic Dial. David and Jill ask Dan if he’d be willing to dial his negative feelings down to some lower level instead of lowering them all the way to zero. You can see his goals for each negative feeling on the “% Goal” column of his Daily Mood Log. M = Methods Now David asks Dan which Negative Thought he wants to work on first. He chooses this one: “It’s pointless in life to strive towards anything, because, in the end, we are all going to die.” Dan believes this thought 80%. While identifying some of the many distortions in this thought, he comes up with this Positive Thought: “Some things are worth striving for!” This thought is 100% true, and his belief in the Negative Thought suddenly drops to 10%, as you can see on his Daily Mood Log (Daily Mood Log.) Next, he wants to work on this thought, which he believes 60%: “People are dying in the world right now, so I don’t deserve to relax and have fun.” After identifying five distortions in this thought, he challenges it with this Positive Thought: “Although the deaths of so many people are tragic, it isn’t my fault that people are dying all over the world.” Dan rates his belief in this thought at 100%, and his belief in the Negative Thought drops to zero. Then he decides to work on this thought: “I’ve had so many good things happen in the last several years, but I can’t enjoy them, since it’s inevitable that I’ll lose those things.” He adds, “After all, what goes up, must come down!” After a couple of rounds of Externalization of Voices with Jill, he still couldn’t completely crush this thought, so David steps in to give it a try, with Dan playing the role of the Negative Thoughts and David playing the role of Dan’s Positive Thoughts. David interrupts Dan’s verbalization of this thought with some irreverent Buddhist humor. At that moment, Dan suddenly “gets it,” and the floodgates open up as Dan crushes the thought. Some people have called this “ah-ha” moments the “cognitive click.” It’s like waking up from a trance or nightmare, and the patient suddenly sees the world in a radically new and far more realistic light. Jill and David complete the M = Methods portion of the session by challenging the rest of Dan’s Negative Thoughts using Externalization of Voices, including role-reversals with the Self-Defense Paradigm and the Acceptance Paradox. I think you will find these exchange fascinating, and you will hear the tides coming in and the tides going out as Dan sometimes struggles and then defeats all of his Negative Thoughts. You can review Dan’s end-of-session mood ratings on his Daily Mood Log as well as his end-of-session Brief Mood Survey and his ratings of Jill and David on the Evaluation of Therapy Session. The Necessary and Sufficient Conditions for Emotional Change If you look at Dan's Daily Mood Log at the end of the session , you will see that the belief in each Positive Thought was high, and that his belief in the corresponding Negative Thoughts was drastically reduced. This is exactly why his feeling suddenly changed so dramatically. Cognitive Therapy (including TEAM) is NOT about telling yourself positive things or uttering positive affirmations. Instead, it's about crushing the distorted thoughts that trigger all of your negative feelings. The very moment you stop believing your Negative Thoughts, your feeling will instantly change. At the end of the session, Jill gives Dan a critically important “homework” assignment. Listening to the audio of a session and doing written work with the Daily Mood Log are vitally important aspects of TEAM. What happens between sessions is just as important as what happens within sessions! Thank you for listening today, and a HUGE thanks to Dan! I hope you learned a ton, on many different practical plus philosophical levels, and enjoyed today’s live therapy session! The Tuesday group at Stanford is free to all Bay Area mental health professionals as well as graduate students in some form of mental health training. The only “fees” involve a commitment to consistent attendance and the willingness to use the BMS and ETS with all patients, plus the willingness to do homework between Tuesday groups so you can really learn and master the very challenging TEAM techniques. Thus, we appropriately label this state of mind “The Subconscious” , “The Superconscious”, “Source”, or “The Higher Self”.** Ordinary Past Life Regression VS QHHTThe difference between ordinary past life regression and QHHT regression is that we work not only with past lives, but also with the subconscious for instantaneous healings (both emotional and physical) when appropriate. This method has proven to be effective on thousands of people all over the world regardless of their Age, Gender, Personality, Physical Symptoms, Religious Beliefs or Cultural Backgrounds for over 50 years. It has been conclusively supported that we have all lived multiple Past Lives and we all have a Subconscious which contains the answers to any question we may have about ourselves or the life we are living. The resulting healing and wisdom that is received, is truly remarkable and often changes a life profoundly as one becomes more aligned with their Divine Purpose.** What is a Past Life Regression?A Past Life Regression is the first component of the QHHT technique. You will be regressed and guided through an appropriate past life. You will be guided by me, much like a guided visualization meditation, and will settle upon a first scene. You will see significant moments within past lives from one or many lives, and eventually move through to the end of the life and beyond to look back and reflect on themes within that life, and significant traits that may have carried into your current life. Your Subconscious will select what past life to show you, and you will be guided through the experience by myself. The past life scene the Subconscious chooses to show you is always relevant to your current life. You will never be shown something that you are not ready to see.** What is Hypnosis? In short, I'm not going to make you bark like a dog or quack like a duck. Those are silly stage tricks that gave hypnosis a bad name and couldn't be farther off from what we are doing. Instead, this form of hypnosis is more of a guided, visualization in a meditative state, allowing you to connect to your subconscious while I, your therapist, talk you through and help you to heal or uncover questions you may have.Hypnosis is actually very easy, and everyone can be hypnotized. In general, there are (4) Brain Wave states of the mind:1. Beta – wide awake - goal setting- comparing self - conscious mind - logical analyzation2. Alpha – light level of trance - altered state - beliefs and ideas - dream state3. Theta – deepest level of trance - somnambulistic - subconscious connection - memories4. Delta – asleepWe will work within Alpha and Theta. Surprisingly, everyone is actually hypnotized 80% of every day and they don't even know it. After approximately 60 seconds watching tv, you're in alpha, because you're concentrating on something. There was a study performed where a tv would stay on as long as a subject was in Beta, and the tv didn't stay more than 60 seconds for each person to move into Alpha! Have you ever been watching tv so intently, you didn't even notice someone walking into the room? Or been scrolling on Instagram and didn't notice how long you've been sitting there? That's alpha. That's hypnosis. You are actually hypnotized a lot of the time every single day. Funny, huh?** What is my Role is as a Regression Therapist?:I'm simply a guide and facilitator. I help facilitate to show you an experience that has happened to you before in this life or a past life. By working with your subconscious to show you these moments, it will help you to be the best version of yourself in this life.**You will Feel/See:You will feel at first like you're making it all up, or you're unclear why you're seeing something... just go with it. Say the first thing that comes to your mind. The first thing you imagine. Quiet the “conscious mind” simply saying what you see or feel. As the client, you just report on what you see or feel. You don't need to analyze it, just say the first thing you see or feel. I'll ask you a lot of questions the whole time to continue to prime your mind and open up what you see.Your angels / spirit guides will take you to whatever and wherever you're supposed to go and whatever you're supposed to see. It could be a past life, between lives, light source, under water, other planets, etc. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.You, as the client, will come to the session with a series of questions (more info given below), and I will ask the subconscious these questions for you. This is where a lot of the healing happens. Your higher self will give you the answers. You will be laying down, and it's important not to move your body while you're in the regression, and you should not open your eyes.** What is the Anatomy of a Session? There are 3 portions of the session; the agenda consists of:1. InterviewWe will talk for a little while about why you wanted this session, your current life, your childhood, your job, your family, etc. Just get to know one another.2. Hypnotic “Alpha State” - Past Life RegressionI will calmly regress you while you are comfortably laying down. You will be taken through a guided visualization by myself, and will be shown one or many past lives.3. Subconscious “Theta State” - Higher Self HealingIf your higher self feels you are ready, you may be guided by myself to connect with your subconscious / higher self / spirit guides / source. I will ask the subconscious any questions you came into the session with on your behalf. We will perform a body scan and work to promote emotional and/or physical healing.Sessions can take anywhere from 2-5 hours. I am never in a rush, and do not charge by the hour. I am here for you, and want this to be a relaxing, enjoyable experience!** End of a Session:At the end I will safely close out the session, and we will have a discussion about what you experienced. After a session you will need to eat within the next 1-2 hours to ground yourself, and do not recommend you go right to sleep. A session should be done a few hours before you sleep.** What you'll get from the “Past Life Alpha State” portion:Emotional Healing & Scene Watching.Connections, understanding your purpose, and past experiences. This is a way to give yourself more compassion for traits that may be imprinted on our soul and who you are in this life.** What you'll get from the “Subconscious Theta State” portion:Physical Healing & Reflection. This is the realization stage. You will gain an understanding of why you saw what you saw in the past life portion. You will see and understand parallels in your current life, and how they tie to your past lives and experiences. You will open up memories that either serve you or hold you back. We unpack the lessons you've learned and are here to learn in this life. You see the themes of past and current lives to understand and release issues in a safe space, helping to access your own power on a cellular level. It also helps to release any emotional baggage you may be carrying with you. This baggage could be festering in your body, manifesting as current pains, illness, chronic disease, etc. These sessions will help you release pain and illness (both mental and physical). We do a body healing scan to get your body to function and operate at its highest potential. This is also where we ask the Superconscious the questions you came prepared with.** How Long Does Healing Take? Most of the main healing is immediate. See Additional Healing notes and reminders below:+ You will continue to closely experience healing for 1-3 days after the session, and up to 2 weeks.+ You may experience a form of your body detoxing for 1-3 days after the session+ It is important to drink a lot of water within the 3 days after the session+ Do not go straight to sleep after the session+ Eat within 1-2 hours of the session to ground+ I will send you a recording of this session, continue listening to it regularly for months and years to come, as you will continue to receive healing+ Do not listen to the beginning induction at all, especially while driving - as it will put you back in trance. Just fast forward until you are off the cloud and within your first scene** How Many Sessions do you Need?:Depends on the client, the issues, levels of healing, and what you want out of it. We will start with one session and go from there.** Common Fears:- What if it doesn't work?- What if I see something I don't want to see?- What if I'm not good at visualizing? This is an exciting healing process that we are not used to experiencing. Naturally, the unknown may feel strange, but this is a safe form of therapy that consists of all light and love. The only thing you need to do is to relax, and follow the guided visualization. You don't need to be psychic or intuitive for this to work, everyone is capable of getting into the Theta state. This form of hypnosis therapy works on everyone. No one has ever come out of a session more traumatized than they were before they sat down. We all have soul imprints of being victims and perpetrators. We all have struggles and strife. That's ok, that part of learning and healing. It's my job to watch your queues to guide you to keep you safe and protected. You also do not have to experience things in your past life, you are able to watch situations as an observer as well, which will help in case you are triggered emotionally. This is a very safe process, and I have been extensively trained to implement safeguards and procedures that will help to guide and facilitate your subconscious. You will never see anything you are not ready to see. This is part of your personal and unique path of growth and evolution.I also do not want to diminish the heaviness of life, trauma and death... I understand everyone has their own experience they come to the session with, both good and bad, and we are here in this life to learn about ourselves, our relationships, and our Divine Purpose.Earth is like a school, and each life has a theme. Think of the themes as a Major in college. There are themes and sub themes in life, much like majors and minors. We're all learning at our own pace and in our own way. These sessions will help you to uncover your themes.By doing this work, and breathing love into it, we can receive guidance and insight where we can connect with our higher self and the world around us.** How to Prepare for a Session:1. Come prepared with at least 5 questions written down to ask your subconscious/higher self. Examples of questions are:+ Can I heal my high blood pressure?+ Why do I have such a strained relationship with my sister?+ I once saw a large blue light/orb while driving, what was that?+ What is my purpose?+ What do I need to do to live a healthy life?+ Why can't I kick my addiction to food?+ My right leg has numbness, can we heal?2. Do not plan anything after the session, it's important to relax and reflect.3. Do not come to the session with substances in your system of any kind (including relaxing medications like xanax, alcohol, adderall, cannabis, etc)// 11 Tips To Indicate Some Clues To Your Past Lives:The truth is that all of us have likely reincarnated, however, some of us have gone through this cycle more than others and therefore experience many of the following characteristics, and some of you may only resonate with one or two of these tips:1. Recurring DreamsDreams are reflections of the unconscious mind, and while repetitive dreams may sometimes signify trauma, fear or issues that your brain is trying to process (“unfinished business”), repetitive dreams can also potentially be reflections of past life experiences. Many people claim to have experienced certain events, seen particular people or gone to specific places frequently in their dreams that feel very familiar, and somehow recognizable. Remember the soul contract thing I said before? You'll recognize places or people or the essence of both.*I don't so much have recurring dreams, but I do have certain specific dreams that I remember IN DETAIL that span my whole life, and Just know intuitively they mean something for me to remember so many of them in great detail -- like even some from childhood.2. Out-of-place MemoriesThere are many recorded instances of young children who have out-of-place memories that later prove to be oddly accurate in detail. While out-of-place memories could be due to simple fantasies, misunderstandings or an incongruence in the ability to remember, BUT there is mounting evidence that suggests out-of-place memories could reveal connections to past lives. Think about when you travel somewhere and it feels like “home” but you don't know why…*This happens to me a lot actually. I can be driving on a street and get an entire flash of a memory, but know I never experienced it in this life. I then sit with them to determine if this is a memory of mine from a past life, or a download I'm getting about someone else's life that is near me.3. You Have a Strong IntuitionIntuition is the ability to balance the conscious and unconscious mind and to tap into our higher selves of primal wisdom and innate knowledge. It is said that the more we soulfully mature, the more we are closer to returning to the ‘source' (known also as nirvana, eternity, oneness) from which our Souls come from, and from which the collective unconscious – a body of universal knowledge – exists.*Mine is heightened to say the least.4. Déjà vuWe've all experienced déjà vu before at some point in our lives. It's that bizarre feeling that somehow we have already experienced or lived a moment in time before. Often déjà vu comes spontaneously, and is triggered by smells, sounds, sights, tastes and various other sensations. Some claim that déjà vu reflects the possibility of other dimensions (i.e. parallel universes), OR a revealing of a past life experience.*I love when this happens! It makes me feel like I'm plugged into something bigger, and that everything is “on track”5. You're an EmpathEmpaths absorb the emotions, and in some instances the physical pains, of those around them literally empathizing, or directly feeling and experiencing what others experience. While identifying as an Empath and absorbing the emotions of others has other genuine cases, and it can be seen as a sign of a soul that has undergone many previous reincarnations and has refined to the point of transcending the individual self and it's problems, and extending to others as well.*I'm an empath and actually working on it, because I tend to take on others emotions and pain (on accident) because I can imagine what they are going through so well. This isn't healthy, and if you're an empath DM me on instagram or text me so we can talk more about some exercises I've been getting into in order to separate myself when I get “too empathic” lol6. PrecognitionAlso known as ‘future sight' or ‘second sight', precognition is the ability to obtain information about future events that isn't usually available. Precognition can be experienced through visions, physical sensations and feelings, or the ability to have dreams about something before it happens. To many, precognition is a very real experience and could indicate the maturation of soulful energy in a sort of ‘psychic' form.*I've totally had dreams about things and then they happen, this set in during highschool for me.7. RetrocognitionYou probably guessed it! Retrocognition is the opposite of precognition, and refers to the ability to obtain information not usually available about past events. These past events could be in your own lifetime, or sometime in the distant past, or even in an event unrelated to your life. Of course, retrocognition unlike precognition is not easy to prove or verify, for those who have genuinely experienced it (and have been able to honestly verify it), this ability could also be a sign of soulful reincarnation. I read an amazing story about a woman who could identify government details (not known to the public) about the assasination of JFK, and she wasn't even there at that time!8. You Feel Older Than Your Age ReflectsSome people are perpetually “young at heart” even into their later lives, and in the same manner, some people just seem to have been born with “Old Souls”. The experience of feeling older than your age reflects is commonly associated with having reincarnated many times over and this is echoed in the “Soul Age” theory where there is a certain progression of soulful development: from Infant Souls, to Awakened Souls. For example: if you have reincarnated few times on earth, this would be reflected in the age of your energy, and in this life you will display many primitive and child-like characteristics. If, however, your soulful energy has reincarnated many times over, you will display many matured and wizened characteristics. If you feel older than your age reflects you might be a Mature or Old Soul.*I've been told I was an old soul literally since Elementary school. My friend Mehr says I'm old like Grandmother Willow in Pocahontas, and I'm obsessed with this.9. You Have a Great Affinity for Certain Cultures/Time Periods/EnvironmentsIt is said that having a great, unexplainable attraction for certain cultures or time periods is a kind of past life “residue” reminiscent of a certain place, culture or environment that your soul may have experienced in past lives. For instance, you may have an inexplicable affinity to Asian culture, Celtic artifacts, or the 19th century.*Ok people can make fun of others for loving a good “period piece” movie or tv show, but you gotta listen to those inklings connecting you to different time periods. I am wildly connected to different places, styles and time periods, and no surprise have since had regressions and realized I was so into certain places and time periods because I actually lived through them. Looking @ you Tundra, Mesopotamia, Ireland, and SouthEast Asia.10. Unexplainable Fears or PhobiasAs touched on in the last point, many believe that certain memories or experiences can pass on or leave “residues” in our childhoods and adulthood's from past lives. Whether this is true, or is simply a form of problem bypassing, many believe that we can experience the echoes of past traumas in our own lifetimes in the form of unexplainable fears and phobias. Examples can include: the fear of drowning, the fear of certain types of animals, the fear of certain places, certain people, the fear of particular numbers, colors, objects, and so forth.*I've been afraid of police since I was a very very little girl - used to cry when I would see them driving, tell my mom when I was barely old enough to talk “act casual” and so forth. I now know I was beaten and killed by police in the 1960's, but through QHHT therapy, I was able to understand, forgive and heal the trauma so I didn't have to have fears and phobias in this life. Also, read that book I mentioned “Many Lives Many Masters” and you'll learn about an AMAZING case study of a therapist who helped clear severe life-debilitating phobias from a woman.11. You Feel as Though this Earth Is Not Your HomeThe yearning to find your ‘home' can be seen as a reflection of the desire to return back to the source (oneness, consciousness, divinity). Many people feel this yearning to be reminiscent of an athlete running a long race and longing to reach the ‘finish line'. In the same manner, Souls that have reincarnated many times over express this basic need for finally completing the cycle and returning home. Feeling that this earth is not your home is often accompanied by chronic feelings of tiredness and wariness for life on earth, with a lack of connection to this planet.*I don't personally feel this way, but have many friends who do. I've had other lives on other planets outside of our galaxy, but I'm not quite as eager to leave yet, because I think I'm here to help be of service. Earth is the only planet to experience emotions in a heightened way as we do. Through this, souls can grow exponentially by feeling sickness and health, happiness and sadness, life and death, sorrow and bliss, light and dark, fear and strength, vulnerability and courage. They are all forms of energy exchanges - it's all physics, karma, and consciousness. Earth is an amazing planet! But many come from other galaxies or dimensions, and are eager to return back to their “home” once they have learned these different themes here in order to elevate their consciousness or “light”. Which is where you have heard the term “light-workers” - they are often from other dimensions here to help raise the vibration here on earth. I know this might sound pretty wild, but I think it's true. Again, I respect all beliefs, just based on my reading, research, and inner-knowing, this is what I believe to be true.// Ancient Ancestors:The belief of Past lives, or reincarnation, known also as “metempsychosis” and “transmigration”, has existed for thousands of years, spanning back to the ancient Celtic, Greek, Asian and Indian traditions. One of the most intrinsic beliefs of reincarnation is that most of us have lived many lives before, and sometimes we can remember these past lives through dreams, QHHT therapy, regressions, meditations, or even through day-to-day downloads.- Plato, in the 5th–4th century BCE, believed in an immortal soul that participates in frequent incarnations.- The Egyptians are also the first who reported the doctrine that the soul of man is immortal, and that when the body dies, the soul enters into another creature and when it has gone the round of all the creatures of land and sea and of the air, it enters again into a human body as it comes to the birth; and that it makes this round in a period of three thousand years.- The Tlingit people are native Americans who settled in the northwest area of North America (Alaska and Canada). There are estimated to be 16,000 of them today, and their belief system on the afterlife is that - Spirits go to an afterlife in accordance with their morality throughout their life, similarly to heaven and hell in other religions. Those who withheld a high standard of morals were sent to Kiwa-wa, and others were sent to Ketl-kiwa. However, this afterlife only lasted for a short duration; individuals would eventually return as a reincarnation of a deceased maternal relative.(I don't personally believe in heaven in the clouds or hell underground in fire, but those are more like metaphors - when we die, we all go to a place of reflection, where we look back on our life to uncover the themes of the life. Sometimes, when we are “bad” per say - we are there reflecting for longer, but God or Source or the Universe will never punish us - we are all full of love and will get full love, and karmically we will know and reflect on things that we have done wrong to hurt others in life - and have to stay in the in-between for a longer period. We all will experience a form of “heaven” which is warm, and full of light and love, with the most beautiful sensations we have ever experienced.)The modern Igbo of Nigeria, even when adhering to the Christian religion, have preserved many features of Igbo traditional religion. The belief in reincarnation seems to be particularly strong. The Igbo believe that reincarnation usually occurs within the same immediate or extended family. They try to identify the reincarnated ancestor by means of birthmarks, statements a child makes when it becomes able to speak, and behavioral resemblances between the child and the deceased person of whom it is the presumed reincarnation. Oracles are frequently consulted to make or confirm an identification. The Igbo believe that deceased persons inhabit a discarnate realm, but they conceive this as an undesirable limbo from which discarnate souls are eager to return to a new terrestrial life. The Igbo concept of reincarnation includes belief in a group of souls called ogbanje who are born, die in early life, and are reborn in the same family, often repeatedly.”The Cathars lived in the southwest of France and developed their belief system in the 12th and 13th century. They did not believe in a Last Judgement, believing instead that this material world would end only when the last of the angelic souls had been released from it. They believed in reincarnation, and that souls could take many lifetimes to reach perfection before their final release.// Mindful & Metaphysical:When you hear the term Akashic Records, what comes to mind? Have you ever heard of them? Some people think of the Akashic Records as a library, or a book. Some think of it as a database. But according to the Records themselves, they are another dimension called the Akasha. The Akasha is a higher dimension than the 3rd dimension we live in today. I know, it's weird. But stay with me.In the Akasha, every thought, idea, and action from the past, present, and future is stored ad infinitum. If you're familiar with String Theory, the Akashic Records is basically like a database of what's happening in all the universes that are coexisting together. The Akashic Records are basically a record of what will happen, is happening, or has happened. Because they are a higher dimension, the rules of time don't really apply. Time is a flat circle to the Akashic Records, so information from 2,000 years ago is as accessible as what happened to you yesterday. And what happened to you yesterday is as available as what could happen to you — if you stay on the same destiny trajectory — in 10 years.Edgar Cayce, the famed medium who popularized the Records, describes them as: “The Akashic Records, or “The Book of Life,” can be equated to the Universe's super-computer system. It is this system that acts as the central storehouse of all information for every individual who has ever lived upon the earth. More than just a reservoir of events, the Akashic Records contain every deed, word, feeling, thought, and intent that has ever occurred at any time in the history of the world. Much more than simply a memory storehouse, however, these Akashic Records are interactive in that they have a tremendous influence upon our everyday lives, our relationships, our feelings and belief systems, and the potential realities we draw toward us … The Akashic Records contain the entire history of every soul since the dawn of Creation. These records connect each one of us to one another.”Linda Howe, the author of the incredibly informative book, “How to Read The Akashic Records,” describes them this way: “The Akashic Records offer empowerment and transformation by lending us exactly the wisdom, guidance, and energetic support that we need in this lifetime. For centuries, the Records — the energetic archive of Souls' past, present, and future possibilities — were the exclusive domain of mystics, saints, and scholars. No longer! The collective consciousness of the human race has been growing, evolving, and maturing. This spiritual independence is marked by individuals who know that they have direct access to their spiritual Source, and who cultivate that sacred relationship.”So why are some people skeptical about them? People doubt the validity of the Akashic Records for a few reasons. One reason could be because they ask the Records for an answer about the future, only to find that it doesn't come to fruition in the way the Records described. But the thing is, we are always in control of our own destiny. The Records just tell us what the most likely outcome is going to be based on the trajectory that we're already on. But at any moment, we can decide to forge a new path and redirect our possible outcomes. It's also easy to doubt the Records because it's WEIRD to hear messages in your head! You might write off the information that's coming to you as your own subconscious thoughts. And you know what, that might be the truth. Honestly, who knows right? You can choose to believe whatever you want. But either way, by taking the time to tap into the Records, you're opening yourself up to a source of knowledge that's more potent than your conscious mind. Whether you believe that the information is coming from your highest self, or from the Akashic Records, is entirely up to you.A great Goop article talks to Caitlin Marino, an amazing intuitive energy practitioner, about the connection to past lives and Akashic records, and also LOVE how she describes it…Instead of “past lives” she prefers the term “alternate lifetimes” to refer to past lives. She goes on to say that time and space cease to exist when you begin exploring dimensions. Instead, we perceive multiple dimensions of reality where all versions of ourselves are happening simultaneously. From this perspective, our existence is not linear—we do not disperse our identity on a timeline that starts at birth and ends at death. Our souls have cyclical lives, like an infinity sign that folds over itself. But there is a place in everybody's energy field called the Akashic records, holding their entire soul's history—past, present, future, parallel. And through these records, we are able to access any moment in a soul's journey. Caitlin says that she uses the Akashic records in her healing work to remove past lives that may carry lower vibrations, imprints, and stuck energy that are inhibiting a soul's evolution. A past-life wound may show up as a karmic illness, which is caused by energy left over from another lifetime that is present now to balance or complete karma for an individual. When used as an opportunity for metamorphosis, karmic illness has the potential to change a person's path in life for their greatest benefit. I use past lives to help create context and resolution through self-awareness. The simple act of acknowledging a past life through a reading has the potential to alleviate karma. Any time our consciousness expands in this way, we increase our potential for evolution! This is why I just love QHHT or quantum healing hypnosis technique. Through this, we are able to tap into your higher self and the akashic records to help heal you in miraculous ways. The most fascinating, and resonating things for past life regression, for me and reincarnation are the stories that can be proven. Many by adults, but also so so many by young children. They say until a child is about 8 years old they can remember their past lives quite clearly. I love when these memories from sessions can be proved with factual dates, names, records and historical landmarks. There are a few stories I've heard that I always think of (I'll try to re-find and link in the episode notes too) — one, of this young boy, who distinctly remembered his life in WWII, where his plane was shot down, the name of his sister and other family members— the parents, who were Christian and didn't believe these things, wanted to help heal their son who was visibly upset and traumatized by these memories, took him to where he said his plane was shot down in the ocean. He cried and cried, left flowers, and was able to find peace. They then found the woman who the child said was his sister in the past life- she was a very old woman by this time— and the boy hugged her - knew her, her name, and stories and memories they had when they were children together, and even knew things about their family!Another good story is about a young 2 or 3 year old boy. His father was changing his diaper and said, “when you were my age, I used to change your diapers!” The dad obviously laughed it off (we think kids say crazy things, but listen to what clues and intel your kids are telling you!) anyways, the family was looking at old photos, and he said “that's my car!” The parent said, “No that was your grandfather's car, he's no longer with us.” But the boy insisted. To try to “test” him, they showed him other pictures of the grandfather when he was young, and could always point him out. Then to make things harder they showed him a photo of a group of very young boys, who all looked similar and were about the same age. He said - that's me! And was absolutely accurate. The last one I'll share today (I could go on and on with these) is about to be made into a movie, called “The Boy Who Knew Too Much” — it's an amazing book, do if you're interested definitely buy it, but it's a true story written by the mother of a boy named Christian haupt, who was discovered on YouTube by Adam Sandler and cast him to be in the movie “That's My Boy” --The young boy, named Christian, said, “Mommy, I used to be a tall baseball player.”“Yes, you will be a tall baseball player someday.” She said --And then he stomped his feet and said, “No! I was a tall baseball player—tall like Daddy!”At the tender age of two, baseball prodigy Christian Haupt began sharing vivid memories of being a baseball player in the 1920s and '30s. From riding cross-country on trains, to his fierce rivalry with Babe Ruth, Christian described historical facts about the life of American hero and baseball legend Lou Gehrig that he could not have possibly known at the time.“The Boy Who Knew Too Much” is written by Christians mother (who was/is a christian woman, carefully unfolding and grappling with these astonishing occurrences), will undoubtedly shake your beliefs to the core and forever change your views on life and death. Hey there! In this week's episode, after my usual tea talk, life update, and faves, I dive into how we depend so much on control. To begin, I discuss daily situations where we seek power, emphasise that control will not satisfy that deep desire we have, and make an important distinction regarding OCD. Next, I focus on letting go of that desire, and explain that I know this deep down, illustrate my relationship with going with the flow, spontaneity and backup plans. Then, I shift toward how control is an illusion: no matter how hard you work or how much you plan, things can still take an unexpected twist! You must understand that people are unpredictable and accept it. Having covered all of that, I then explain a few ways you can stop worrying about control so much, for instance, avoiding to plan, practicing flexibility, knowing that your life is not a scrapbook, and lowering your expectations. I conclude by reiterating a few important points and sharing motivational encouragement, and, finally, read a review! Last week I was listening to Jonathan Van Ness’ podcast, Getting Curious (whom many of you might know from the Netflix show, Queer Eye). The episode, What is Toxic Stress & Why is She So Bad?, featured Dr. Caroline Leaf who’s a cognitive neuroscientist with a PhD in Communication Pathology and a BSc in Logopedics and Audiology, specializing in metacognitive and cognitive neuropsychology.Where Does Toxic Stress Come From?Leaf describes how negative thinking – especially the same negative thought repeated over time – creates a toxic stress. For example, if you always criticize and judge your body every time you see it in the mirror, that negative thought creates “bad wiring” in your brain that affects the health of your body. What about the Toxic Stress of Homophobia? As an example, last year I began to feel physically tired and almost ill whenever I received a homophobia or hateful comment on my Medium publication, Th-Ink Queerly. The anger began to negatively affect my health and my relationship. In my emotionally frustrated state my creativity was completely blocked, which is the essence of my livelihood. I knew I had to change, because the situation itself wasn’t going to changeThe Importance of Being the Witness. How to observe your behaviour by “standing back” and learning how to change what you're feeling. Things that help with this process include regular meditation, becoming aware of your triggers, and practicing noticing. You can take this to another level by asking for help in the form of an “awareness buddy” or working with a coach. How can we think in ways that make for a physiologically healthy brain? You Think, You Feel, You Choose. You can't suppress an emotion like grief or anger. It doesn't go away. Instead, you need to acknowledge and express the emotion to deal with it over time. Yet you can re-wire your brain, even if you’ve been stuck in a pattern of negative thinking for a long time. Your brain and your thoughts are not who you are, and just like a habit, it takes time and consistency of practice to create new and healthier ways of thinking.Leaf’s 5-Step Process to “Switch on your Brain”AwarenessDeep analytical thinking.Write it downEditActionReferencesHow to Let Go of Being Right to Be Who You Are – LOP018Why the Stories of Your Past Are Not Who You Are – LOP020How Journaling Helps You Create What You Want in Life – LOP023Is Forgiveness of Homophobia a Gay Male Gift? "We have all been through a lot in our lives. The difference is some of us CHOOSE not to be a victim." I belong to a few mommy Facebook groups and I need to call out a trend I'm seeing, because it is DRIVING ME CRAZY. Ya'll. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR LIFE. Here are some examples of things I've seen posted recently: ”Man, I wish we could afford a family vacation this year” “I wish I could ask for a raise because I think I deserve it, but I'm afraid my boss will say no” “I am the WORST mom for… (insert thing almost EVERY mom has done but doesn't admit)” “My husband never does the dishes, I really wish he would so I could spend more time with the kids” Now, I am not saying that sometimes life doesn't hand us a shit sandwich. Your furnace goes out so you have to drop $5k on a new one and can't swing extras right now (been there). Your asshole boss skips over you for a travel opportunity because you're a working mom. You FEEL like the worst mom ever for not matching up to the idolized Pinterest mom. Your husband doesn't pull his weight around the house (thank GOD Ryan is a total saint and does more than his fair “share'“). It feels EASY to sit at a the pity party of women bitching about their husbands, going on and on about their money woes and thinking they're never good enough. That is NOT your crowd, mama. Not anymore. If you want to up-level your life and live the big life you're meant to you need to break ties with the things that make you feel and think less than. It's not that shit doesn't happen - it's how we react to it. We (especially working moms) try to act like we have it all together when the shit is hitting the fan but we (especially women) ALSO choose to play the victim more than we should. You've GOT to take control, mama. Here are some of my mindset shifts and tips to ditch the bitching and own your life: TALK to your husband. Give the WHY behind why you need more help. If you married a kind person who loves you and wants you to be happy - they will listen and they will make an effort. Now, this can come with a learning curve so be kind as they're learning but DO NOT settle for less because it's inconvenient. Money is a deeply rooted area where you can easily become a victim to “circumstances”. Watch your language… instead of “we can't afford that” say “I can't wait to buy that some day!” or “we're choosing to spend our money differently right now”. Use empowering language around money (your kids are listening). YOU are a GOOD mom. You are doing your very best with what you have. You are learning. There is no perfect, there is no manual, your kids are loved, fed and alive. You're doing great. Remember this and TURN OFF the things and people in your life that make you feel less than (ain't nobody got time for that) What are ways you're taking responsibility for your own life? How have you changed how you talk and think? I'd love to hear how other working mamas are going through this thing called life, in the best way they can! How I'm Unf%&king My Mindset: Gratitude wins, always. You cannot be grateful for something and be complaining about it, too. Here's a little gratitude practice for you - think of a less than ideal situation you're right now. Maybe it's a relationship, maybe it's your job, maybe it's your crappy car. Write down TEN things that you're grateful for about it and then follow with BECAUSE. When you add the because, you add the power. Looking for gratitude in shitty situations makes everything better. You aren’t a victim. You really and truly are not. In any problem circumstance, the real problem is that you feel you have no control. You FEEL at the affect of your life and the people “pulling the strings”. But this isn’t really the case. You are always responsible for how you respond. There’s always […]
Sometimes… Do you feel like NOT doing anything And feel like some BLOCKS AND RESISTANCE that are really keeping you behind And… All you want is not doing too MUCH work… You FEEL like you are tired and you need A BREAK You want to watch A MOVIE You feel like you should take OFF Even then, you never feel satisfied and you feel exhausted you don't feel good AT ALL! But remember! You can choose to feel a little bit differently You need to start to experience change and take some really important actions The BIGGEST THING is now getting into action And start doing that remember that it's okay to acknowledge that you are not feeling OK. Acknowledge that you are a human and you are not always going to be perfect, not always going to feel amazing. You are neither a superwoman nor superman. Take some actions so that you can shift everything. Think about what else you can do to FEEL better! Remember! You absolutely can have it ALL, by just thinking a little bit differently at times when you feel like not doing anything. Regan x
Hello and welcome!Today’s episode is called: “Live From A Place Of Love (Even On Bad Days)”Love. It’s a word that is bandied about and so often used/misused in life. Or else used for things that are really not the same at all.I love dark chocolate.I love my brother. They’re kind of different things, right?!Also, love gets tarred with a kind of pink sparkles and glitter type vibe. Like it’s nice and sweet. But the love I am talking about is a force AND the only way to live, as it happens…What am I talking about?Well before I get started talking about living from a place of love, it would probably make sense to define what I mean by the word "Love"...Defining LoveLove is a powerful and expansive energy and force in the world that works through us and through everything in life. Love is for us to embody in ourselves and employ in our lives.Love is expansive.Think about trust and joy and creativity and kindness. Loving energies. They are opening and expanding. Loving feelings. So more than defining love, you feel love. Now, think about the opposite – fear, anxiety, pressure, stress. They’re contractive, right? Weigh you down. Close you in.Consider the physicality associated with these two opposite energies – love and fear. Contraction and expansion. One opens and allows possibilities. Physically, too, we open. Shoulders back, wide smiles, chest open. The other shuts down. Head heavy, shoulders caved forward, arms folded. In life, we have been conditioned to think that we find answers up in our brains, by figuring things out. Truly, the answers are in your body. You FEEL what is true for you.You FEEL love. This powerful force of love is one you choose, it’s one you commit to living from. It’s not always easy. We’re human beings – some days will be easier than others, but we always have a choice in how we respond to life. When you consistently choose to live from a place of love – of being honest, of opening, of stepping out of the drama and choosing defencelessness, life does change. How do you that? Here are some guidelines:1. Remember that you are the Universe and the Universe is you. Here are my favourite lines of poetry ever, from Desiderata by Max Ehrmann:"You are a child of the universe,no less than the trees and the stars;you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you,no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should."There’s no arguing with that, is there?Life is expressing through the trees and the stars – through the branches and the light in the sky. Life is expressing through the gifts of the Universe – life-sustaining things we so often take for granted (air, water, shelter, nourishment, love).Life is expressing through us – in how we express ourselves and through what we love to do, what brings us joy.Life is expressing through you.So let’s take a tree…A tree has a healthy sense of entitlement, it absorbs all it needs - all the nutrients from the earth and the air and the rain - and it expands and expresses itself abundantly, with beautiful branches and leaves and maybe flowers too.The same principle applies to you and to me.We are the entitled ones.We are entitled to the gifts of the Universe and it’s our job to be us the best that we can be – through growth and creativity and expansion and joy – and to give back to the world. What we tend to do so often in life is get caught up in daily details and melodramas. We get mired in them – we attach to them and then we make them mean something about ourselves and our lives. We get caught in our heads and in fear. When we are in this small, isolated, singular mindset it’s easy to feel small and contracted and disconnected from your inner power. When you choose Love, that loving energy, you can open up to new possibilities. When you are employing loving force in your life you can make choices. You can choose what you want to engage in (or not), you can choose how you do (or don’t) want to engage and you can choose your interpretations.Love affords you power and choice. It means resting into that tree-state of trust in life, feeling safe.I know, I know… it’s a nice concept - resting into that tree-state of trust in life, feeling safe – but that’s not the experience most of us have had in the world. I count myself in that.So how do you learn to feel safe?Well...2. How To Experience A Deeper Sense of Connectedness and Love In Your Life The first step is in making the choice to generate feelings of trust and safety and entitlement. We can claim them! (After all, we are the entitled ones!)How do you do that? You practice feeling into your body. The world has conditioned and has schooled us out of trusting our primal instincts – but it has not removed them.Your intuition, your inner guidance is there. You can turn your attention to it and build up your connection with your intuition so that you have a deep trust in it.Here are some steps:- Start by being willing, by being open to the idea of connecting with your inner guidance.- Ask questions and look for the anything you notice that pops out to you throughout your day. Do this lightly and with play.- Bear in mind that we are sentient beings. You may get guidance in ways that are different to what your brain expects. Just take the attitude that you are learning and the work is play.- Notice your senses. Do you hear a song or a conversation? Do you see a picture or have a vision of a memory in your mind? Do you have a feeling or a sense in your body?Just be open and practice and notice. Be careful not to attach or make something mean something at this stage. Just gently explore your intuitive guidance.Author, Sonia Choquette says that rather than asking polarising questions about right/wrong or yes/no, ask, “Is this true for me?” and see what response you get.Prepare to be surprised!3. Living Your Life From A Place Of LoveYou know the expression “Charity begins at home”?Well, the same principle applies with love. You must love yourself first.Loving yourself is more than bubble baths or buying yourself flowers or a new dress (or whatever the case may be for you).Loving yourself means being radically honest with yourself and listening to yourself. It means speaking your truth. It means setting healthy boundaries.Loving yourself means really treating yourself with love and care and respect and following through on this with your actions. An extension of that love is speaking to yourself with encouragement and kindness, having a healthy discipline, being careful who you surround yourself with, how you nurture yourself - emotionally, mentally and spiritually. It means creating a life that is worthy of you and that feels good. Then you extend this loving practice to all people and you bring this loving energy into everything you do in your life. Love is strong.Know that sometimes love says no. Sometimes honoring yourself and what feels true to you means disappointing other people. That’s ok.What matters is the energy you are living from. Which brings me to...4. Living Your Life From A Place Of Love (Even On Bad Days)When you create a practice of living from love on the good days, this becomes your habit and what you can default to on not so good days..Here’s something else:Sometimes the loving choice is to allow yourself feel low or down and not try to force yourself out of it.Living from a place of love means being honest and real in the moment. It means allowing yourself to feel your feelings – whatever they are.To me it’s a thing of “be like a toddler”. When a toddler is mad, he/she is MAD, but next second when he/she is happy, madness is 100% gone. When you allow yourself feel your feelings, without getting attached and without making them mean something more, they pass quickly. If you have been holding a lot of your feelings in, this concept could feel scary. In fact, if you’ve been suppressing things you feel for a while when you do start to allow yourself feel them you may feel crashed into by all the feelings you have been holding down and have not expressed. As you allow yourself to feel and to express them, though, everything settles down. The key on bad days is “No judgment.” Just have a day. My sister sent me this one time when I was going through a tough time and I love it:“I know you’re sad, so I won’t tell you to have a good day.Instead, I advise you to simply have a day.Stay alive, feed yourself well, wear comfortable clothesand don’t give up on yourself just yet. It’ll get better. Until then, have a day.”- AnonymousOn bad days, hold to the truth that this too will pass – even if you can’t feel it, just know it.If you’re in emotionally charged situations, calm before you speak or send an email or text - even if that means delaying your response or telling the person you can’t talk about it right now.Our actions and words come back to us, so if possible it’s better to communicate from a grounded place.Regardless, the bottom line is that we are who we are and that’s ok. Get any support you need – professional, friend or family member – and be kind to yourselfSomething else about the bad days: sometimes they are the release, sometimes they are the gift. They hold wisdom within them. When you feel ready, lean in to the fear or the upset and listen for the guidance they have to share. What might you be resisting? What change might you be wanting? What might you be angry at yourself or someone else for?Know that when you are ready you will find your way through.Everything is going to work out because it has to. Life goes on.Lean in to the truth that there are more possibilities than you are experiencing in the moment.I hope that was helpful for you today and that some things sparked for you and got you thinking in a good way! Here’s a Free PDF download for you to print/save (no opt-in necessary) called “Live From A Place Of Love (Even On Bad Days)”. The Dark Night of the Soul (Part 1) The first live therapy podcasts with Mark (the man who felt like a failure as a father: podcasts 29 – 35) were enormously popular, and many people have asked for more. David and Fabrice were delighted with your responses, so the next three podcasts will feature a therapy session with Marilyn by David and his highly-esteemed colleague and co-therapist, Dr. Matthew May. These three podcasts will include the entire session plus commentary the session unfolds. We are extremely grateful to Marilyn for her courage and generosity in making this extremely private and intensely personal experience available to all of us. I believe the session will touch your heart, inspire you, and give you courage in facing any problems and traumas that you may be struggling with. According to the theory behind cognitive therapy, people are disturbed not be events, but rather by the ways we think about them. This notion goes back nearly 2,000 years to the teachings of the Greek Stoic philosopher, Epictetus, who emphasized the incredible importance of our thoughts—or “cognitions”—in the way we feel. Fifty years ago, this notion gave rise to a new, exciting, drug-free treatment for depression called “cognitive therapy,” which was based on this basic notion: When you CHANGE the way you THINK, you can CHANGE the way You FEEL—quickly, and without drugs. That’s why I wrote my first book, Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy, because I was so excited about this notion and the powerful new “cognitive therapy” that was rapidly emerging. The idea behind cognitive therapy is simple. When you’re upset, you’ve probably noticed that your mind will be flooded with negative thoughts. For example, when you’re depressed, you may be beating up on yourself and telling yourself that you’re a loser, and when you’re anxious you’re probably thinking that something terrible is about to happen. However, it may not have dawned on you that your thoughts are the actual cause of your negative feelings. In addition, you’re probably not aware that your negative thoughts will nearly always be distorted, illogical, or just plain unrealistic. In Feeling Good, I said that depression and anxiety are the world’s oldest cons, because you’re telling yourself things that simply are not true. In that book, I listed the ten cognitive distortions, such as All-or-Nothing Thinking, Overgeneralization, and hidden Should Statements, that trigger negative feelings. In the years since I first published Feeling Good, my list of cognitive distortions has gone worldwide, and is used by enormous numbers of mental health professionals in the treatment of individuals struggling with depression and anxiety. The notion that depression, anxiety, and event anger result entirely from your thoughts, and not upsetting events or circumstances external events is enormously liberating, because we usually cannot change what’s actually happening, but we can learn to change the way we think—and feel. But a lot of people don’t buy, or understand, this notion which seems to fly in the face of common sense. For example, you might argue that when something genuinely horrible happens, such as failure, losing a loved one, or being diagnosed with terminal cancer, it is the actual event and not your thoughts, that triggers your negative feelings. And you might also argue, perhaps even with some irritation, that your thoughts are definitely not distorted, since the actual event—such as the cancer—is real. Would you agree? I know that’s what I used to think! The next three podcasts will give you the chance to examine your thinking on this topic, because Marilyn is struggling with a negative event that is absolutely real and devastating. As the session with begins, Marilyn explains that she was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 (terminal) lung cancer, which came as a total shock, especially since she’d never smoked. As Drs. Burns and May go through the T = Testing and E = Empathy phases of the TEAM-CBT session, they learn that Marilyn has been struggling with extreme levels of depression, anxiety, shame, loneliness, hopelessness, demoralization, and anger, to mention just a few of her negative feelings. If you’d like, you can review a pdf of the Brief Mood Survey and Daily Mood Log that Marilyn completed just before the session began. You will see that her negative thoughts focus on several themes, including Her fears of cancer, pain, and death. Her thoughts of spiritual inadequacy, doubting her belief in God, wondering if there really is an afterlife, feeling that she’s not spiritual enough, and thinking that she’s perhaps been duped by religions. Her feelings of incompleteness at never having had a truly loving life partner. Her feelings of self-criticism, beating up on herself for excessive drinking during her life. Click here for Marilyn's Brief Mood Survey, pre-session. Click here for Marilyn's Daily Mood Log. The next Feeling Good Podcast with Marilyn will include the A = (Paradoxical) Agenda Setting phase of the TEAM therapy session, and will include the Miracle Cure Question, the Magic Button, the stunning Positive Reframing Technique, and the Magic Dial. The third and final podcast will include the M = Methods phase, including Identify the Distortions, the Paradoxical Double Standard Technique, Externalization of Voices, and Acceptance Paradox, end of session testing, and wrap-up. Although the subject matter of these podcasts is exceptionally grim and disturbing, we believe that Marilyn’s story may transform your thinking and touch your heart in a deeply personal way. Because Marilyn is a deeply spiritual person who suddenly finds herself without hope and totally lost, we have called part one, The Dark Night of the Soul.

Truth and Dare: Female Empowerment, Authentic Conversation, Real Transformation
Today's chat: Body image. This topic is so personal. It's beautiful, confusing, painful, and powerful all at the same time. Kinda makes sense that we would talk about it on Truth + Dare.... right? Here's the thing about being a woman: we are ALL DEALING WITH THIS SHIT. All of us. No matter our shape, size, color, age, or profession, we have all, at some point, dealt with a body image issue in some capacity. It is our authenticity + vulnerability on topics like this that bring us closer together and help to build the collective sisterhood community that is so important to us at TAD. So, that being said, I think we should dive in head first - press play, listen, then let us know how YOU FEEL! For more info, conversation, and inspiration head to www.truthanddaremovement.com, and follow us @truthanddaremovement.

So fuck off, and check out this episode as we wrap it up with some clips from Comedian Bill Burr talking about church brainwashing and letting go of religion. Laugh you fucks. Life’s too short to being caring this religious burden around. Bill Burr Special - I'm sorry You Feel that Way Give us a Rating & Review

She also gives some sweet treat tips if you do want to indulge in a healthier way. Recommends planning a massage, race, or indoor activity (like rock climbing) together Suggests making banana pancakes with frozen berries as a pureed topping or popping popcorn (buy kernels yourself and cook in a paper bag in the microwave and add undutched, unprocessed cocoa powder and a small amount of coconut sugar or Stevia powder) Also recommends 80 percent or greater dark chocolate like the Alter Eco brand that Kari and Serena both love or pitted dates filled with cacao nibs or almond butter Suggests taking organic, grass-fed milk (or almond or hemp milk) and adding some grass-fed heavy cream with some undutched, unprocessed cocoa powder and coconut sugar to make a healthier version of hot cocoa Kari chats about essential oils and her diffuser—using lemon with peppermint (morning) and lavender (night) The most important thing you can do is to love yourself before you can love anyone else! Whitney Houston's “The Greatest Love” epitomizes this, and here are the lyrics: I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone's shadows If I fail, if I succeed At least I'll live as I believe No matter what they take from me They can't take away my dignity Because the greatest love of all Is happening to me I found the greatest love of all Inside of me The greatest love of all Is easy to achieve Learning to love yourself It is the greatest love of all Next week, Kari is going to release a special episode with return guest Meb Keflezighi from “Meb Keflezighi—Achieving Your Dreams Through Hard Work (1/2)” (Episode 85) and “Meb Keflezighi—Achieving Your Dreams Through Hard Work (2/2)” (Episode 86). Is This You? You don't FEEL like exercising. You don't FEEL like eating healthy. So you don't. This leads to you NOT exercising and eating right. That decision leads to you feeling bad about yourself. It damages your confidence. With less confidence, you don't FEEL like you can lose weight. It's too tough. You FEEL horrible, sad, dejected. You know you'r not a loser, but you sure feel like one. Or Is This You? You're honest. You're caring You have integrity. You keep your word. You've tackled tough things in past Then Do This? Put the decision you WANT to do, on your calendar. Then do it. Even if you don't feel like it. DO IT (you said you were a person who keeps their word) When you are done you will FEEL better (tired, but better). You WILL have MORE confidence. This leads you to believing you CAN do this. The positive FEELINGS lead to you gaining confidence. But it means doing things that you may not WANT to do. But in the end you WILL BE doing something you WANT to do and that's be healthy. Make Your Decisions on Logic - Not Feelings I'm not saying be a robot. We all have feelings, but they can be manipulated and lead us in the wrong (non-healthy) direction. This makes sense. It's logical. It's simple. It's not easy. One more time. It's not easy. If it was easy, we'd all be thin.
