Waarom is ''tijd = geld'' bullshit?
Australian drama following the life of a veteran adapting into society whilst looking after his wayward teenage son has extremely potent scenes of a personal journey. Well acted by Sam Worthington, newcomer Ed Carmody, astounding Phoebe Tonkin and multitalented Matt Nable. I spoke with all 4 briefly on Sydney red carpet. Enjoy!

Re-Animates 2: Back in the Habit! The Jeffpod returns with more of what we all want: lols, factoids and incomprehesible tangents into nowhere. This week I'm joined by my Punwatch and Failure to Launch co-conspirators, Alex Malone and David Shaw, for "What Is This Thing Called Love", the S1/E16 episode of "Jake the Fatman" (1988). No, I don't know why the episode is called that, either. Surely "A Close Shave" would've made more sense? Listen to the ep to find out why!

In episode 18 of the road.cc Podcast, we're reflecting on the recent changes to the Highway Code… and why we think some of them have been misinterpreted so badly. Join George, Simon, Ryan and Jack as they clarify what the new rules are, and ask why on earth certain media pundits decided to tell the nation that cyclists can now ride in the middle of the road, and require motorists to stop on a roundabout whenever they see a cyclist approaching (spoiler: neither of these things are true). Simon also catches up with Tim Lennon of the London Cycling Campaign, who was recently the subject of tabloid press articles that accused him of being a “cycling zealot” after footage emerged of a driver performing a dangerous and illegal close pass on his daughter. Tim reflects on the media circus, and why people on social media chose to deflect by questioning his daughter's lack of protective equipment. Finally, road.cc tech editor Mat Brett talks to Alex Malone of cycling shoe specialists Bont Cycling, who have come on board to sponsor the road.cc Podcast. What does it take to produce some of the finest cycling shoes, and where can the tech go from here? Alex says “watch this space”, so we're hoping for something new and exciting from Bont this year!

This week in our 101st EPISODE EXTRAVAGANZA (whoops) we treat ourselves with a locally-shot action extravaganza: Irresistible Force, a.k.a. POWER COP. Detective Stone, who's too old for this shit (i.e. getting shot on a weekly basis) is thrown into a Die Hard Lite™ hostage situation with a brand new partner, rookie cop and all-round arse booter Charlotte "Charlie" Heller, played by 90s straight-to-video action star Cynthia Rothrock. There's an angry chief, a weiner kid, a by-the-book, pencil-pushing, city-hall-will-have-my-arse lieutenant, and even a surprise guest for us Aussies! What a way to celebrate 101 episodes of Failure to Launch! Certainly better than some Friends rip-off. Reviewers: James Ferris, Alex Malone, David Shaw Soundboard: Andrew Cherry
This continuation of the spooky month has us watching Ultraviolet, a 2000s attempt by FOX to adapt a British series about cops and vampires. It’s a packed house on Failure to Launch this week as we examine Riverworld, a 2003 SyFy original, except it’s not because it’s based on a fantasy book series. Strap yourself in for some tedious world building! Basically a bunch of people who died at different points in history wake up together, naked and screaming, in Riverworld; a big ol’ planet run by aliens, probably. Along their journey, our protagonists meet: - A neanderthal, whose savage attempts to kill people are bad - Emperor Nero, whose classy attempts to kill people are good! - Cameron Daddo, whose American accent is bad - A fish-alien dude, whose paddle-steamer building abilities are good! Will they find out what Riverworld really is? Can they get back to Earth? Will these and other mysteries be solved? Absolutely not, this is a pilot. They can’t blow this stuff early. Read the books if you’re that desperate, nerd. Reviewers: James Ferris, Lucy Shaw, David Shaw, Alex Malone, Harry Brimage Soundboard: Andrew Cherry
This week on FAILURE TO LAUNCH we examine VENUS ON THE HARD DRIVE created by Chuck Lorre (Big Bang Theory, Dharma and Greg, Two and a Half Men) starring Oded Gross (Story producer on... Cake Boss?... Cake Boss) and the voice of Maggie Roswell (The Simpsons, Pretty in Pink). Harry is a snarky IT worker who unwittingly uncovers Venus; a government spy program who is also a snarky sexy lady that moves in with him and his snarky snark housemate, Ozzy the snark (Lord Snark of House Snark). More than 10 years after Weird Science, Chuck Lorre thought he'd give it another crack... but what if this time... it was a shitty Chuck Lorre show. If you love Big Bang theory and Two and a Half Men, then you'll tolerate Venus on the Hard Drive... and you probably wonder why we're so hard on all these great shows. You absolute muppet. Reviewers: James Ferris, Harry Brimage, Alex Malone, David Shaw Soundboard: Andrew Cherry *Jeez we've been talking about banging a lot lately.
This week on Failure To Launch we watched Time Slip. John Taylor from Duran Duran is "The Hacker" and he's finally hacked the mainframiest mainframe of all. The mainframe of the future, allowing him to see visions of what is to come. What does this modern Nostradamus do with his power? Watch people getting it on. A la The Twilight Zone, this vision of the future is the story of Greg and Jenny committing the crime of love in a cold robotic future where everything is on fire. When Greg intentionally wipes their records from the security system he is shocked to find that the security system "Lee" no longer recognises him and won't let him back in the office, so Greg has no choice but to KILL LEE. Listen to find out if Greg and Jenny can survive this stupid STUPID game of cat and mouse on this week's Failure to Launch. Reviewers: James Ferris, Alex Malone, Harry Brimage, Andrew Cherry Soundboard: David Shaw
(Apologies for the audio issues with this episode. Someone absent-mindedly turned their microphone off during the recording.) This week on Failure to Launch we examine MICROCOPS, a 1989 sci-fi comedy about Microscopic Alien Cops who's society is entirely made up rule abiding sticklers. So they come to Earth to learn to loosen up, party down and stop a microscopic criminal who is causing oil spills and advocating, like, you know, whatever man WOOP WOOP. But because they are so tiny, in order to get around this massive world they hijack the first person they stumble across; Morgan, a scientist who's entire career involves developing a molecule that will clean up oil spills. So convenient WOOP WOOP! Can Bidra and Nardo save earth with Morgan's help? Can Bidra learn "What is Kissing?" Can Morgan win back the love of his life from the evil millionaire funding all his projects? And can we forget the endless "WOOP WOOPs"? Oh God the WOOPs. Make them stop. Australian listeners! Over in the US, our fellow failed pilot historians (deficio-nauclerusists?) at the Couch Pilots podcast will soon dive into a curio from OzTV: Australia's Naughtiest Home Videos, the doomed clip show infamously yanked from the channel 9 airways mid-broadcast. If you're unfamiliar with this piece of Aussie TV history, we suggest you let Jason & Blake run you through it. Look out for the episode on the 11th/12th of September on any reputable podcast service! (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ In this week’s Failure to Launch, we ask: why would you bother remaking Turner and Hooch? Unfortunately, this 1990 TV adaption of the classic Tom Hanks ‘reluctantly looks after a dog’ film doesn’t give us any answers. It does however give us a plot that revolves almost entirely around the theft of a pecan pie though so it’s not all bad news. Also Turner seems to gain full custody of a child he arrested because there’s no room in the cells. That’s how the law works, right? But seriously why would you bother remaking Turner and Hooch? Well, NBC had big plans for the Summer of 1990, big dog-based plans. If you’ve listened to our podcast before you may already be familiar with Poochinski, the story of a dead detective whose soul gets transferred into a living dog. Excitingly, Turner and Hooch aired directly after Poochinski to become the titular second dog in NBC’s now legendary Two Dog Night lineup. Armed with that really shitty pun, and the crime-solving dog market now seemingly cornered, NBC had the world at their feet. What could possibly go wrong? Well they don’t solve any crimes. Turner does get called in to investigate the disappearance of some bread and a pecan pie, and then Hooch accordingly mauls a child, but that's not technically solving anything. They also didn’t write any jokes. They do have an angry middle-aged man that inexplicably HATES his dog, but we're not sure that counts as a joke. As a result we’re left with 20 minutes of the televisual equivalent of white noise that pleasingly goes quicker than you’d think. But we all know that making the transition to the small screen is never easy (see Mr. & Mrs. Smith), so it is a welcome relief for Turner and Hooch fans to see an old friend return to lend his star power to this project. That’s right, reprising his title role, Beasley the Dog is back! They got Hooch guys! They got Hooch! In the SEASON 4 PREMIERE of Failure to Launch we watch Northstar; the 1989 pilot that was so insane it inspired Dan Harmon to produce the Jack Black action spoof "Heat Vision and Jack". We follow the baffling journey of Major Jack North, an astronaut that gets hit RIGHT IN THE FUCKING EYE by a rogue solar flare while on a space mission. Now, whenever he is exposed to sunlight, it amplifies all of his mental and physical abilities but it could also make his head explode. His head almost explodes a lot. He doesn't really make any meaningful effort to avoid the sun. That's an IQ of 1000 for you. After his buddy Captain Moustache-tronaut is murdered it’s up to Jack and his Sexy Scientific handler Dr. Alison Taylor to track down the killer. And by track down we mean stumble around, make VERY AGGRESSIVE passes at each other and chase motorbikes until the killer just gets fed up and solves the crime for them. Why would he do that? We wanted to start season four of Failure to Launch with a bang and what we got was a cranial explosion, but an incredibly fun and confusing one. Northstar is an absolute gem of a mess and we hope you enjoy the insanity. Stick around for the rest of season 4 which we can promise will be EVEN WORSE. Alex is a digital strategist who left everything back in the Netherlands (including all the furniture in her apartment) and went on a world work trip. She is the girl who fell in love with the freedom that only traveling can give. "Yes, it is pretty scary in the beginning." The first adventure she took was when she traveled alone around South America for 6 months. Being a true-blue digital nomad, she went on adventures and took in the diverse cultures of every country she visited by working and living in these countries for a while. "I win my game by being very open to everything that comes along." Alex is very open to everything. She discourages overthinking and just taking the risk. They may be messy at first, but soon enough, you will be able to discover your true self because of these risks. Contribute a story: www.storyofmyworld.com Facebook Twitter Instagram

This week’s episode sees the return of Failure to Launches most divisive star, Jessica Simpson, in a 2004 pilot built on one simple fact of life; Beautiful women will instantly turn any male into a desperate blabbering idiot and any woman into a raging ball of jealousy. We meet Holly and Joe, two snobbish, intellectually elitist journalists - who we’re supposed to love I think? - who are forced to work with the kind-hearted, yet dumb as a post singer Jessica Sampson. Cruel sniping and hilarious workplace sexual harassment ensues. And although the show might occasionally get a little un-pc, in the end it pulls together for a heartfelt message that all young women, nay all people can rally behind; Ladies, if you want a man to like you (and we know that every single one of you thinks about nothing but that at all hours of the day) then don’t talk to him, let him get to know the real you and use that mouth for smiling. Not talking. Boys hate that. So join us as we become frequently distracted from the barely existent story to focus on more important issues. Such as, the conduct of Russian McDonalds employees, whether Tom Hiddleston and Taylor Swift right for each other and the funniest way to mispronounce hippopotamus. Alex Franco is a tough New York cop investigating a rape and murder (like in Nikki & Nora) who gets frozen (like in 1994 Baker Street) and travels through time (like in Out of Time) to a dystopic future where all the world’s terrorists have banded together (like in Nick Fury) and the cops use stupid guns (like in 17th Precinct) and unrealistic gene therapy (like in Fearless). He has to team up with a distant relative (like in Out of Time again) who is now a dog (Poochinski, K-9000) to solve crimes whilst on a dirt bike (Evel Knievel) and wearing synthetic skin (Darkman) for a reality TV show (Hollyweird) about a fight between Angel and Demon-themed professional wrestlers (Earth Angels, Tag Team). This week, we allegedly murdered our collective will to continue the podcast by subjecting ourselves to "Juiced", a hidden camera prank "show" starring sportsman, actor and...guy OJ Simpson. OJ does what Jackass was doing when those guys were 13, only with more gratutious female nudity, bad rapping and poorly thought-out "ideas". LA detective Eddie Munroe hates machines and machines seem to hate him, so it's a twist of cruel fate that sees him teamed up with a German Shepard who's brain has been replaced with a hitch computer. To be honest Eddie actually rolls with the whole scenario pretty smoothly. Along the way they're joined by a sexy scientists who claims to love animals despite performing numerous, painful tests on them as well as helping to build a machine that exists entirely to remove dogs brains while they're still alive. For money. But who can get hung up on that when there's international thieves to thwart, human shields to use and so, so much glass to break? From the Book of Failure, S2-16: “The man, who was named Ferris, toiled in the fields of the Internet, searching for a pilot which was of formidable quality. He went up from Rutube.ru to Torrentfreak, but he would not be satisfied, and no merchant of pilots whose lights were not green could impress him with his wares. After many days wandering the desert of Wiki, he collapsed, and at this time the Lord of Bad Pilots appeared to him in a vision, taking the forms of Billy Zane and Adrianne Palicki. “Oh Lord”, cried Ferris, “End my suffering! Provide unto me a hyperlink to the pilot which shall destroy television, and bring about the end of all screen entertainment!" With these words, the Lord Billy Zane did smile upon him, as the Lord Adrianne Palicki speaketh, “Don't really have anything like that. We've got this thing called Gay Robot though. Will that do?” "Fuckin' done!" cried Ferris And then Ferris saw some children, and he cursed them in the name of the Lord. And two she-bears came out of the woods and tore forty-two of the boys*.” *That bit is from 2 Kings 2:23-24. Seemed appropriate though. Channing Taylor is a cop from the future who's out to prove that policing is a people’s job and not a computer’s. So he goes back in time to convince his Grandpa (Bill Maher) that Adam Ant's evil plot to cure all diseases has to be stopped, and the only way to do it is to break every time travel rule and irreparably ruin the future. But Bill Maher is determined to make policing a computer’s job and not a people's. Can Channing and Grandpa see eye to eye? Can you wrap a man in fruit loops? Can you cut to every single shot in a feature length pilot with the sound of a broken jack-in-the-box? Only TIME will tell. In this week’s unexpectedly raunchy episode of Failure to Launch, we examine Island City, a world ravaged by formerly-human-now-super-strong-neanderthals, the victims of a genetic experiment gone wrong. The remnants of humanity cower inside the fortress-like Island City, desperately searching for a cure. Well… I’ve used words like “cower” and “desperate”, but for the most part everyone’s really relaxed about the whole situation. So much so, that when a rescue worker is lost in the mutant-infested wasteland and given 48 hours to live, the rest of his team just grab a drink, catch up on some sleep, kinda, y’know, have a bit of R&R. Just 48 hours of “me” time. Also, Abraham Lincoln hits on someone’s mum. Oh, and there’s eugenics, and everyone’s cool with it (including the writers). This was a weird one. Reviewers: James Ferris, Harry Brimage, Alex Malone, David Shaw Soundboard: Fabian Lapham
Terminator fans and robot fetishists rejoice! This week's pilot features a secret conspiracy of world domination, and an inexplicably British protagonist who sleeps with not one but two lady robots. In 1986 NBC commissioned Annihilator, a pilot about a man who discovers that humans are being replaced by dog killing, limb severing, chain smoking robot dopple-gangers. Obviously, his immediate reaction is to tell everyone and act completely surprised when nobody believes him. His second plan is to perform a ridiculous amount of property damage, trust anyone who puts out, and then frame his crimes on homeless people. Longtime listeners will understand this - get ready for an Invincible-level pilot. Reviewers: James Ferris, Lucy Shaw, Alex Malone, David Shaw Soundboard: Harry Brimage
Anne Rice is one of the most beloved horror authors of the modern era. After the runaway success of her Vampire Chronicles, the middling success of her Lives of the Mayfair Witches and the bewildering publication of her middle school diary, Rice was ready to move to TV! In 2001, she wrote the pilot for the original series, Earth Angels, detailing the secret war between armies of Angels and Demons for the souls of all mankind. Although, it's not really a war. More of a series of petty spats and arguments. And there's really no armies, more like a volleyball team's worth of angels and, like, 3 demons, absolute max. And it's not really a TV show, because in a TV show stuff happens. But it does have Krycek from the X-Files. So, there's that. Reviewers: James Ferris, Alex Malone, David Shaw Soundboard: Fabian Lapham
It was 1996, and Marvel wanted to do a live-action X-Men TV series. But these weren't your granddad’s X-Men! Heck no! These were hip, young X-Men that no one's ever heard of or cares about, with amazing new powers like sexual harassment, kinda ripping off Cyclops and being quite muscular for a girl! When these kids go up against a dream invading pedophile (it doesn't come up much, but it's in there) it's thrill-a-minute stuff, packed with high impact diatribes about new age meditation techniques and electrifying casual misogyny! Reviewers: James Ferris, Fabian Lapham, Alex Malone, Harry Brimage Soundboard: Andrew Cherry
In 2005, the unaired pilot for Global Frequency gained a little infamy; it was one of the first TV pilots to ever leak onto the internet. The WB had already passed on the pilot, so it's possible whoever leaked it was trying to get the network to change their minds. According to Warren Ellis, who created the comic this series was based on, the leaking annoyed the WB execs so much they killed the entire project, despite a positive reception it received from those who torrented it. That is possible, but with all due respect to Warren Ellis*, it may also have been killed because The WB wasn't interested in a show about a spy agency who specialises in conference calls. *Seriously. Go read Transmetropolitan. Or Supergod. They're amazing. Reviewers: James Ferris, Alex Malone, David Shaw, Andrew Cherry Soundboard: Fabian Lapham
Gaia Moore (Rachael Leigh Cook) was born without the gene for fear (not a thing). Because of this, her body doesn't produce adrenaline, so she has heightened strength and reflexes (also not a thing). The FBI send her undercover into an identity theft ring who are convinced she's not a cop because she's not scared of stuff (maybe a thing? Are hackers really dumb?) Turns out, not feeling fear isn't all that useful. Even against milk*. *Just listen to the podcast. We'll try to explain. Reviewers: James Ferris, Alex Malone, Harry Brimage Soundboard: David Shaw
If you were a broke, down on your luck wrestler, would you turn to fighting crime to pay the bills, or just star in a shitty TV action series about two broke, down on their luck wrestlers fighting crime to pay the bills? Of the shows we've reviewed so far, this fantasy-set police procedural is the most high concept.
