Today we are joined with Joli Hamilton- "a coach for couples who color outside of the lines"-not only do we get to hear her super interesting story of going from a monogamous married woman, to marrying a man in a open marriage-and now being polyamorous. Joli also talks coaching couples who think they want to open their marriage, what she find is successful and isn't; and we do a deep dive on jealously. You won't want to miss our awesome convo=) Today I started off with listener questions; one man loves his "big beautiful woman"-yet she feels very insecure and struggles to take a compliment. One girls boyfriend is constantly looking at other women, engaging with them and basically being a large POS- I made sure to really lay reality out and hype any women up dealing with this situation. In the ABC's most recent Australia Talks survey, 29 per cent of people said marriage was an outdated institution. Is it just marriage that younger people are moving away from, or is monogamy also becoming a thing of the past?
Today Im joined with Heather Shannon, sex therapist, who works with all kinds of couples and individuals. Dr. Joli Hamilton has spent years studying the unique aspects of romantic relationships and helps couples who color outside the lines to create partnerships that are custom built for their authentic selves. Today on the Women's Vibrancy Code, Dr. Joli, the jealousy expert, defines what creative consensual non-monogamy is and what it is not. She and Maraya discuss how jealousy and envy are different and how to have more vibrant and honest relationships by addressing the “monogamy” elephant in the room! IN THIS EPISODE: [01:38] Episode introduction and Joli Hamilton professional background. [07:40] What is jealousy and how is it different from envy? [17:29] The unhealthy response to jealousy. [22:10] What is creative non-monogamy and the cultural implications surrounding it? [28:47] Marya's response and what non-monogamy looks like outside of the sexual aspects. [38:59] Episode recap and how to reignite the passion in your relationship in one single conversation. KEY TAKEAWAYS: Jealousy is distinct from envy. It is the fear of interruption of a love bond with a special someone and a threat to survival. Whereas envy is wanting what someone else has. In the context of jealousy, violence is more prevalent than we give ourselves credit for. Individuals should seek out therapy, support and foundational safety when there is any type of violence or control issues present in a relationship. Monogamy and non-monogamy extends to more aspects of a relationship than just s€x. It can and should be explicitly defined in how you handle your finances, friendships, travel, parenting and more. It's all relevant when making clear and loving agreements in your relationship. RESOURCE LINKS Coupon Code: MARAYA (Use this code and get $1000 off Joli's flagship program!!) Welcome back to Six Minute Sex Ed, the podcast that helps people talk about sex, relationships, and growing up. Created and hosted by Sex Education Teacher Kim Cavill. Find her at www.teaandintimacy.com - https://twitter.com/sexposparenting - https://www.instagram.com/sixminutesexed/ This week's episode is level one, making it perfect for people of any age and we're going to talk to Dr. Elisabeth Sheff about polyamory. Dr. Sheff is one of a handful of global academic experts on polyamory, and the foremost academic expert on children in polyamorous families. Specializing in diversity and underserved populations, Sheff is an expert witness, relationship consultant, public speaker, and author. Her first book, The Polyamorists Next Door: Inside Multiple-Partner Relationships and Families (2014 hardback and ebook, 2015 paperback and audiobook), details Sheff's findings from the first 15 years of the Polyamorous Families Study. Dr. Sheff answers four questions in this episode: 1. What is polyamory and how many people identify as polyamorous? 2. What does your research say about polyamory and parenting? 3. How do polyamorous parents navigate institutions that are biased in favor of monogamous relationships? 4. What advice do you have for health teachers, parents, and caring adults who want to talk to young people about polyamorous and multi-parent family structures? If we could have been paid for every single snide or off-hand comment people make to not just polyam people, but to people who are living "alternative" lifestyles, we would be swimming like Scrooge McDuck in our filthy earnings for having endured the preposterous statements and accusations we encounter on nearly a daily basis. In this episode, you get to relive them with us - without the damage of having swam through gold coins - and maybe we'll even touch upon the ones that you've gotten comfy with answering - or the ones that you yourself suggested.
Not gonna lie, Steve and I are nearly four years into our relationship and my sexual drive has shifted from when we first met. Now I know this is a normal thing but I wanted to know why for two reasons. One, my, "it's too late, I'm too tired, I'm about to get my period", and so on reasons were wearing Steve down. Second, I didn't want to be nearly 35 years old and dismissing my sexual energy. I got onto an incredible book by Esther Perel, Mating In Captivity. In my opinion this is a must read for everyone to appreciate the real reasons why it takes a lot of work, creativity and open communication in long term relationships for sex to be part of the relationship. In this episode I'm sharing my journey and what I've discovered so far.

NOTE: Please forgive some of the sound issues in this episode. Today is Part 3 of our mini-series that puts a spotlight on sexualities and identities that don't often get the attention they deserve. And today, we are joined by Sophie from PolyAM Radio to discuss Polyamory! We talk about what it is, some of the specific terms related to it, it's intersection with different queer identities and our personal experiences in regards to non-monogomy. Then in the second half, we talk about its representation in media both canon and fanon and how we want to see it portrayed in the future. Ostrolenk speaks with Dr. Brandon, clinical psychologist and sex therapist, on an evolutionary perspective of our primal instincts. Dr. Brandon discusses how our culture encourages us to both overthink sex and try to make it politically correct. Rather, she argues, there are sexual differences between men and women that our primal instincts want to seize upon. Although developing a sexual passion based on power dynamics may seem at odds with what we believe to be healthy, Dr. Brandon describes how to capture on the primal brain inside the bedroom and the modern brain outside of it. If you listened to my show last week, Heaven or Hell, you heard me tell the story of a man who had many, many affairs with many, many different women while he was married. Those of you who listened with intuition knew that I was one of those women. Since this man's wife has now died and her life of pain and agony is over, and since this man is now older, and is content to just be with one woman, it is time to tell the story. As I have been taking this journey into my heart to clear out all of the pain and hurt that is stored there, I now know why I allowed this event to happen in my life, and my story will perhaps help you see and understand about affairs.
