Welcome back to another episode of the 360 Money Matters Podcast! In this episode, we challenge everything you thought you knew about retirement planning. With Australians now living 25-30 years in retirement instead of 10-15, the old model of "save a lump sum and make it last" is dangerously outdated. From bucketing strategies to protect against volatility, to the 4% rule and sequencing risk, discover how to build a retirement plan that actually funds the life you want to live—not just survives until the money runs out. Tune in to discover what modern retirement planning really looks like. - This podcast contains information that is general in nature. Episode 51: Recorded July 13, 2025 "One of the things that really struck me...the car park was the most egalitarian place in all of England..." Harry Jennings on the "great leveler" of the Waterloo Cup Show Notes Many first-time Greyhound adopters will tell you that they didn't grow up with Greyhounds as kids. Their interest in the breed started with a meet-and-greet at a local rehoming event, or they had a friend or relative that had adopted a Greyhound. Harry Jennings didn't grow up with Greyhounds either, but he did become interested in them in quite a peculiar way. He discovered the breed in graduate school while thumbing through medieval French literature manuscripts about coursing. Harry's first Greyhound — Charlie — actually belonged to his housemate, Lauren, but it was his gateway Greyhound into the vast and varied world of the breed. Charlie had an Australian pedigree, having raced in Florida and been adopted out of the Philadelphia area. Harry and Charlie took to the road to try out lure coursing in 1992. By 1993, Charlie was the number one Greyhound in ASFA lure coursing. The making of the Jennings Greyhound man continued with ownership of American racing Greyhounds and a visit to the Waterloo Cup in England in 1999. There, he crossed paths with this show's host, John Parker, and together they experienced the premier coursing event in the world at the time. There on the field, the two “Yanks” and a few other American friends found themselves before the microphone of English television presenter Clarissa Dickson Wright as part of her Clarissa and the Countryman series. In this episode, host John Parker explores this unconventional making of a Greyhound man -- Harry Jennings -- one who immersed himself in all things Greyhound-related over three decades. Harry shares his thoughts on training and conditioning for lure coursing; navigating the ins and outs of Greyhound racing organizations in the United States and England; and remotely participating in the sport of Greyhound racing through the syndicate model. This is episode two of a two-part conversation with Shrounda Selivanoff. We are continuing our ongoing series on Termination of Parental Rights. If you haven't already, please listen to the first episode where Shrounda and I talk about her family's experience of TPR and how they had to fight to maintain custody of her grandson and protect her son's rights from being terminated. In this episode, we talk mostly about House Bill 1747, which was passed in Washington state in 2022. Most fundamentally, the law requires the Department of Children, Youth, and Families to rule out guardianship before considering Termination of Parental Rights and adoption. While this is largely a policy conversation, we gourd it in what matters the most, which is family, and belonging, and our right to be connected. Here is the link to HB 1747 if you would like to learn more.Washington State LegislatureAs we move into our production pause, I'd like to say Thank You! In this episode we return to our ongoing series on Termination of Parental Rights. This is part one of a two-part conversation with Shrounda Selivanoff. Shrounda is the Chief of Parent Representation Initiatives with the Washington State Office of Public Defense. She has a long history as an effective policy director and respected advocate for parental rights. She also brings her own personal experience of CPS, child welfare, and TPR as a mother and a grandmother. In part on of our conversation, Shrounda shares her story of fighting for her son's rights as a parent and for her grandson's right to know and be connected to his family. In part two of our conversation we'll dive into the policy she worked in WA and the implications it has in the ongoing conversation about a world without TPR. Here are links to the article that Shrounda referenced about safety, permanency, and well-being as well as HB 1747. Text us is you have a question for Matt or a guest. We want to hear from you. In this week's journal episode, I wanted to return to the conversation about Termination of Parent Rights. I've been surprised by the number of conversations that are happening around TPR in recent months, more than any time in my career, including national working groups. While we have a long way to go in terms of making significant strides, it seems as though we are normalizing the conversation about a world without TPR. So, I wanted to come back to the thought experiment of, "what if TPR no longer existed?" I also reference a future episode that we are developing that will likely touch on a particular policy in Washginton state that was passed in 2022, which requires the state to rule out guardianship before proceeding with adoption and TPR. Can you read the bill language here. 1747-S HBR FBR 22 (wa.gov) The journal prompt this week is...in ten years, TPR will no longer exist, what will need to change between now and then to be prepared for a world without TPR? This is a creative constraint to help us imagine the future we want to see rather than how we want to change the current structures of the system. In our first conversation with Vivek Sankaran, we talked about the morality, necessity, and constitutionality of Terminating Parental Rights. At the end of the conversation, he mentioned that he would be presenting two TPR cases to the Michigan Supreme Court in May. That has happened and, in this episode, we hear from Vivek about how it went, what he learned about where we are in the conversation to eliminate or dramatically reduce the use of TPR, and where we need to go next. This week's episode continues our series of conversations about Termination of Parent Rights. I wanted to talk to Vivek Sankaran because he has a unique depth of knowledge to bring to the thought experiment that we've been bringing to these episodes, which is to imagine what if TPR was no longer an option. Vivek directs the Child Advocacy Law Clinic and the Child Welfare Appellate Clinic at the University of Michigan Law School. We talked about TPR from the perspective of its morality, necessity, and constitutionality. We started the conversation with Vivek's earliest experiences as an attorney representing children and how he came to see the need to represent parents. We end the conversation with Vivek talking about a case that he is taking to the Michigan Supreme Court and the implications it could have if successful. Today's guest, Mollie Warren, is the Director of Family and Children's Services in Boulder County, Colorado. I wanted to return to the conversation about Termination of Parental Rights with someone who is in a "practitioner" role and a position to make decisions about to the use of TPR on a regular basis. One of my goals in these conversations is to normalize a conversation about "what if TPR was no longer an option?" I think it's helpful if we can examine TPR from the perspective of what opportunities are created if we were to take it off the table as an option. I started the conversation with Mollie about her recently evolving perspective on TPR. I remember learning about the 2020 Vision in 2007 when I started working in child welfare. It was a new national initiative with the goal of reducing the number of kids in foster care by 50% by the year 2020. I was working with kids aging out and watching the impact of growing up in foster care play out in front of my eyes. I remember being inspired by this initiative and hopeful about its impact. Today's guest is Susan Smith who led the data team at Casey Family Programs for 16 years and was responsible for tracking and reporting on the initiative's progress. As we know, the initiative did not ultimately succeed. Susan and I use the 2020 Vision as a jumping off point to a conversation about what we can learn from the successes and failures of past initiatives. There are a number of national initiatives right now with bold ambitions. What can history teach us about solving and measuring the right problems. This week's episode is a journal entry that was prompted by the Proximity Podcast Club conversation. We were talking about a question posed to the group by Corey Best, who am I without the family policing system? This immediately got me thinking about a few fundamental questions that I talk about in this episode. What did the system provide me? What did the system cost me? Where does my security actually come from? Is there wisdom gained from sitting in the ambiguity that we wrestle with in this work? What would we imagine and create if we were unconstrained from trying to reform or improve the system? These are big questions that we can't answer on one podcast episode (or many) but they are good prompts for us to work with over time. I hope you find them helpful in your own journaling practice. Today's episode is a conversation with Kathleen Creamer that you don't want to miss. Kathleen is the Managing Attorney at Community Legal Services of Philadelphia where she and her team use a holistic family defense model to help parents maintain custody of or reunite with their children. We center the conversation on the necessity of Termination of Parental Rights (TPR) as well as the constitutionality and morality of TPR. We also weave in some of the history of how these policies came to be and the mindsets that underpin them. One of the questions we leave on the table is what if TPR no longer existed, what opportunities would that create to pursue justice? If you want to learn more about Kathleen and her work, you can visit Community Legal Services. Kathleen references the work and writing of professor, author, and activist Dorothy Roberts. This is part two of my conversation with Corey Best. You may want to go back and listen to episode one where Corey talks about growing up in DC, his son being born, and his experience of termination of parental rights (TPR). We end that conversation as Corey was hours away from reuniting with his son after 19 years. We pick up Today's episode with the first embrace that Corey shares with son and the experience of being together for a couple of days. From there the conversation moves to explore the Adoption and Safe Families Act and TPR. We get into some of Corey's position on TPR , his process for why he wants to share this part of his story, and his approach to freedom seeking as it relates to TPR. We end the conversation with where we began episode one, what does freedom mean? Corey shares that he has fears about facing ASFA but he glimpses freedom when he faces his fears. This is part one of a two-part conversation with Corey Best. We cover a lot of ground in these conversations, but we center around Corey's relationship with his son who, until very recently, he hadn't seen or talked to in 19 years. We get into Corey's early years of growing up in DC, some of the pivotal people and experiences in his life, and the early part of his career. But the heart of the conversation is about Corey's relationship with his son (Corey aka Deuce) and the reunion they are about to have just hours after we recorded this episode. We also talk about Corey's relationship with the Adoption and Safe Families Act of 1997 and Termination of Parental Rights, specifically Corey's experience of a judge terminating his rights in 2004.To learn more about Corey and Mining for Gold you can visit the website.MINING FOR GOLD COMMUNITYYou are invited to join the Proximity Podcast Club, a growing community of people who are supporting one another through their own process of becoming who they want to be in this work. IV & V of the ASFA series. We'll be getting red-in-the-face & across a brand new, surprise EP sometime in the next few days... A momentary interlude from our ongoing ASFA & Nazi Occultism series*** Subscribe to: patreon.com/ParaPowerMapping Hey there, Theta Chi & Masonic Templar MK-ULTRA Dr's class of 1926! Welcome back to campus. It's Hypno Harvard Pledge Week. Time for a mini-dive into the formation of the Harvard Psychology Clinic & the lives of some of the MKULTRA & intel-affiliated doctors that graced its halls w/ their hypnosuggestive whispers & scraped the brains of "shell shocked" WWI veterans. We're talking Herr Doctors Estabrooks, Murray, Langer, Beecher, Morton Prince, Orne, Cameron, Milton Erickson, etc. & a veritable sanitarium of hypnotherapists & mad MK scientists who I don't have the time to list this second. We're back in MasSUSchusetts for a second before we take that transatlantic Hindenburg zeppelin flight (waft? float?) and touch down in Babylon Babelsberg Berlin. A Lowell-Lawrence makes an appearance in this one; as does Alfred North Whitehead. We spend half our time w/ Murray, his work in agent profiling for the OSS & British Intelligence, his lover's sexually-fraught mentor-mentee relationship w/ Carl Jung, Murray's work w/ Walter Langer, with whom he'd write the psychoanalytical report on Hitler at Wild Bill Donovan's behest. There's more Wild Bill in this one—+ good old J. Edgar Hoover! You'll hear the voice of Admiral & CIA Director Stansfield Turner from the MKULTRA hearings briefly, as well as numerous clips from the 1970s TV documentary "Mission Mind Control". We spend the meat of the EP on George H. Estabrooks, his 1943 text "Hypnotism", his role in formulating MK & super courier procedures, his Cardinal Mindszenty propaganda, the fact that he & Hitler both suffered gas attacks in Ypres (Belgium), the fact he was likely hypnotized after said disastrous experience on the Western Front, his 33° wedding in Rome, & his many, many sus scientific, military, & academic connections. We break it all down, showing how he began consulting w/ MID, the War Dep't, & the OSS years & years before BLUEBIRD, ARTICHOKE, or MKULTRA came in to being... Perfectly encapsulating my argument that WWI hypnotherapy prefigured modern American mind control. Oh yeah, and like basically every frickin' MK Dr. is a Harvard Crimson. Songs: | The Kinks - "Brainwashed" | | Michael Abels - "Hypnosis" (Get Out OST) | | Mission of Burma - "Learn How" | Clips from the previously mentioned ABC doc "Mission Mind Control", as well as the intro to an interview w/ Dr. Henry Murray
If you're new to Epic Retirement, welcome! Each Friday afternoon I publish Retirement Diaries a personable discussion with a retiree or pre-retiree in podcast format. It is designed to tell real stories and lessons learnt during pre-retirement and retirement. I hope you'll find time to listen to these short chats over the weekend. I also send out a weekly newsletter midweek. If you missed this week's you can read it here. And keep an eye out for my weekend column in the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age Money Section on Sunday! You can read last weekend's here: Why retirees are being shortchanged by the big banksThis week in Retirement Diaries, I chat with Ken Moffitt. Ken is 18 years into his retirement and has been living life to the fullest for every single one of them. He and his wife sold up their life in Sydney in the mid 2000s and hit the road in a caravan for five years before settling down in Darwin. In this Retirement Diaries Podcast Ken talks to me openly about the journey of managing their own superannuation through the troughs of the GFC and building it back up to support their lifestyle and cost of living. He discussed what they really spend on living costs, having settled in Darwin, which he says is a more expensive place to live than most in Australia. And finally he tells us all about their 5 year caravanning journey around Australia and why travelling Australia in a caravan clockwise is completely different to travelling it anti-clockwise and gives us some powerful advice for people thinking about a similar trip. Ken was a Past President of the Association of Independent Retirees in Darwin so he's very aware of the challenges and opportunities of retirement. Here's the highlights: 2.00 Setting their retirement plan - they planned to have enough to lie their life well and leave nothing when they finished.4.05 Super and how it worked for him over the years - his real life experience of living through and rebuilding from the GFC. 7.45 How does their budget compare to what ASFA says is a comfortable retirement? 9.00 Living in Darwin - the cost of living is higher. Why it is more expensive9.45 How their medical and health costs have increased over time10.45 Their real cost of living comes out closer to $90k12.00 The costs of strata levies and insurance have increased significantly13.00 Heading off on a 5 year caravanning journey including the clockwise and anri-clockwise experiences of travelling Australia - two totally different trips. 15.30 Lessons for anyone considering a 5 year caravanning adventure around AustraliaSearch for Retirement Diaries on Apple, Spotify or right here on Substack; or watch on Youtube below. Why does it take so long for some states to find safe, permanent homes for foster children? In this episode, Naomi and Ian are joined by Sarah Font, Associate Professor of Sociology at Penn State University. Sarah recently published a report card for AEI, ranking states based on how long children wait in the foster care system to find a permanent home. The measures from the report card are taken from the Adoption and Safe Families Act (ASFA), which says that states should petition for a termination of parental rights if a child has been in foster care for 15 of the last 22 months. Sarah explains that states regularly disregard these guidelines, in part out of sympathy for biological parents who lose custody of their children. But decades of research show that 20-40% of children who are reunified end up re-entering foster care due to repeated instances of abuse or neglect. Utah is the top-ranked state in the report because its policies clearly indicate how caseworkers and courts are supposed to implement ASFA. In contrast, child welfare administrators in Illinois, which ranks last, admit that they do not consider ASFA as part of their decision-making when evaluating child protection cases. States should look toward Utah as a model to make sure they are following federal guidelines and work to recruit more foster families to ensure children do not languish for years in foster care. Slam the Gavel welcomes back Jay Rosenthal from Cpsprotect.com (Season 3, Episode 87) and Sylvia Beachy from RescueTheFosters@proton.me on the podcast. We discussed the well-oiled machinery of the CPS system and that it is finely perfected, however flawed and paid for by the taxpayers. It is a broken system. ASFA (America Safe Families Act 1997) and CAPTA (Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act, 1974) was well-intentioned but fell short. Solutions were discussed and Jay Rosenthal talked about URGENT ASSIST BASIC provided by Cpsprotect.com and what that entails when CPS is at YOUR DOOR. This levels the playing field for the parents. There is freedom of choice but not freedom from consequence. We talked about accountability and why caseworkers remove children, "when in doubt, pull them out." Taking a child out of a loving, fit home may end them up in a very abusive situation in a Foster Home. Sylvia Beachy brought up the fact that the MEDIA only shows the biological deaths of children but not the deaths in Foster Care. It is important to discuss uncomfortable topics as Sylvia Beachy stated, "We need to get uncomfortable as children are attacked at all angles. Where are you getting your moral values from?" Sylvia felt her moral compass was pushed too far and that was when she began RescueThe Fosters@proton.me We discussed pushing Atheism on our society and that it's cool to not believe in God and where exactly is the stability for these children in the system. https://youtu.be/qhzuSxirGGMTo reach Sylvia Beachy and Kajal Emmett: RescueTheFosters@proton.me and 770-861-0898Rumble "INSITE" Podcast Thursday 7:30pm ESTWebsite: https://cpsprotect.comPhone: (844) 633-KIDSE-Mail: contact@cpsprotect.comSupportshow(https://www.buymeacoffee.com/maryannpetri)dismantlingfamilycourtcorruption.comSupport the showSupportshow(https://www.buymeacoffee.com/maryannpetri)http://www.dismantlingfamilycourtcorruption.com/
Slam the Gavel welcomes Katherine Thomas to the podcast. Katherine is a Grandmother that was fighting to save her GRANDSON while he was in the WOMB. With no help from CPS or legislators just shows how her JOURNEY to watch over Angel, her grandson, being born from highly ADDICTED parents that willingly surrendered him to her care and custody. However, CPS still deliberately intervened when they didn't need to. Angel was not in imminent danger and Katherine already planned on taking Legal Guardianship to raise and PROTECT him. When CPS came in they basically committed PERJURY to the court AND they DIAGNOSED Katherine as unstable. From a Team Decision Making meeting they were told that they were not in need of their intervention as he was going to be RAISED by Katherine and he again was in no danger in NICU Unit with ankle monitor 24/7 and she had full access to his care as she was the one caring for him while in the hospital. However it all changed when he left the hospital. We discussed Katherine's website www.saveourchildren.org as well as where our Social Security monies are REALLY going.... Slam the Gavel welcomes Mark Esquibel to the podcast. He is a part of Dad Talk Today that helps Mothers and Fathers navigate through the family court systems. We discussed the failures of CPS in Texas, Title IV-E and ASFA that Bill Clinton signed as he incentivized children being removed from the home. Children are products where states are incentivized for taking children. Judge Janice Graham Jack in the higher level courts recognizes this . Every single program in CPS is voluntary. It's a SCHEME and a Coercive Control approach to "we are just here to help." The instant media are parents now recording when CPS comes to the door. As Parents we should know our rights when CPS comes to the door however, 83-86% of claims are unfounded claims /false accusations. State and County, CPS gets a bonus for removing children out of the house and into the Foster Care system, and more bonuses at the 6th month hearing, at the 12th, 18th and the 24th month hearing a CSW is going to get a $4,000.00 bonus for keeping the kids an extra 3 months and lying to parents. YOUR CHILDREN ARE THEIR INCOME. There are unlicensed individuals working for CPS handling drug testing that will taint the drug test to keep the kids away from parents. When a parent tries to stand up for themselves in court they are then called crazy. The deal is: they will force a psyche evals on the parents to drag the case out because they budget how many kids are in the system, how much was the reimbursement through Title IV-E, AND the rest of the money goes into the JUDGE'S RETIREMENT FUND. They are making money abusing our children. The goal is to come together as parents and stay out of court. CPS is not solution based as it thrives off of an incentivized system that destroys families and children. We discussed the Jeff Younger case (in Texas) where his son is now in California being transitioned to a girl and how this can affect parents across the United States. This case was mishandled by Judge Mary Brown. Also the sad case of Corbin Henderson, where his father was finally allowed to visit with his son minutes before he died and the grand parents were allowed to visit with Corbin for only 90 minutes on Father's Day. This is the two year anniversary of the John A. Mast murder that took place on February 5th, 2021. It has taken the DA 2 years and court trials delayed four separate times until this year, this case now goes to trial. Awareness is key and both sides have to come together and work together. Slam the Gavel welcomes Stacey to the podcast. Stacey's family's story goes back to the year of 2013 when she filed for divorce to protect her children from abuse. However, Stacey was very naive and trusting at the time as her ex is an attorney formerly for CPS and current Public Defender. While she knew sometimes law enforcement and the courts might cut some slack for "friends or family" on things like minor traffic infractions, Stacey never thought things would turn out to be so dirty when presented with life and death matters of children. So she trusted her high-paid attorney to do the "right things." Unfortunately she literally served Stacey right into the "conflict of interest" courts where her ex appears regularly and is known by everyone. Stacey has spent over $250,000 to protect my kids. She has also had 5-6 judges recused and/or disqualified. They ignore abuse at every turn. Her kids are still in his custody. Recently, when explaining documented proof that the Judge gave custody to the parent who strangulated her daughter while the kids complained he sexually abused them, the cop said “that's moronic.. how can he still be a judge”. The next day, she heard nothing from the police despite knowing her children are failing to thrive as the police are always called to their father's house and they have left her children there. There was an incident where Judge Daniel Furlong told Stacey to "shut her mouth" and threatened to fine her. Stacey doesn't smoke, rarely drinks, has never been arrested, never found to abuse or neglect her children. She is also a medical professional. She is BOTH breadwinner of the family AND was primary caretaker of their children prior to divorcing. Can anyone make any sense of this, other than this is a CPS cover-up of a sex abuser who worked for them. After her ex's role as attorney for Niagara County CPS in NY, they knowingly hired a sex offender for the same position. Attorney Nicholas D'Angelo is now indicted on 11 charges of rape including kid(s) in CPS custody. Unfortunately the father has now been indicated for child abuse and STILL the courts won't rightfully return Stacey's children to her custody…but there is HOPE. Stacey discussed how powerful affidavits are and how powerful a Non-Party Witness Affidavit is. She also encourages the public to read the Family First Act and the importance of it as well as the destructive ASFA signed in 1997 by Bill Clinton. To Reach Stacey: Erie Niagara Dishonorable Honorables on Facebook Hope For Children on Facebook Lock Keeper Court Watcher on Facebook #BeLoud Statewatcher on Facebookhttps://www.state.gov/reports/2019-trafficking-in-persons-report/?fbclid=IwAR3RE90ByRzkndADlaj41EXlogi55sE6sImAgclncbZpYbNwy0bV576bgVc&mibextid=Zxz2cZhttps://imprintnews.org/youth-services-insider/trump-promotes-family-first-act-foster-care-proclamation/30687Support the showSupportshow(https://www.buymeacoffee.com/maryannpetri)http://beentheregotout.com/http://www.dismantlingfamilycourtcorruption.com/
This week, we talk with Joanna Woolman, associate professor of law at the Mitchell Hamline School of Law and the executive director of the Institute to Transform Child Protection. Joanna tells us about the Adoption and Safe Families Act (ASFA), a key piece of legislation in America's child welfare system. ASFA creates arbitrary deadlines and financial incentives for states to separate parents and children, and even terminate parental rights. Joanna explains why the law operates this way and how we can do better. Support the show

Fascinating discussion included 1997 ASFA, Child Trafficking with over 800,000 children gone missing. The fictitious Family Courts and that the judges are a corporate entity, a registered agent and is insured with indemnity insurance is something all litigants should explore when finding malfeasance in their case. Advice was given if CPS comes to your door as well and that caseworkers also have their own insurances. We discussed that all litigants Pro Se or otherwise get the Black's Law Dictionary which Lisa has a free PDF for parents on her web-site.To Reach Lisa: lisa@pasfamilyadvocacy.com mailto:Admin@PASFamilyAdvocacy.commailto:CFAlawsuit@activist.comPAS Family Advocacy: 858-260-8458Supportshow(https://www.buymeacoffee.com/maryannpetri)http://beentheregotout.com/http://www.dismantlingfamilycourtcorruption.com/Music by: mictechmusic@yahoo.comBustin' Chops & Callin' ShotsEach week Josh and Jon sit down to give their take on travel sports and everything in...Listen on: Apple Podcasts SpotifySupport the show
Slam the Gavel welcomes Patriot Parents. Patriot Mom back on the show. She and her spouse were last on Season 3, Episode 71. DFPS is a Cartel. as they ransom our children by strong arming parents with statements such as,: “All you have to do is complete the family plan and you'll see your children again.” CPS is a Cartel because they collect the “inventory.” The “Inventory” being The People's children. They have a link to their adoption page which shows pictures of all the children “available/eligible for adoption.” We call this “eBabies for Adoption.” Ladies and Gentlemen, they market our children and this is where the SCAM comes in. Truth be told, it is the judges who are the traffickers as they have the ultimate say. CPS just solicits the children and puts them on the market for profit to sell to the highest bidder. We discussed Texas Laws, false accusations as well as ASFA (1997) and the destruction it caused. There is no accountability and no one is safe. From all walks of life many families will be intruded upon by CPS. Please Join the March on September 21, 2022 at 1PM at 701 West 51st Street Austin, TX 78751.
