In episode #74 of The XS Noize Podcast, Mark Millar catches up with Russell Marsden, one half of Band Of Skulls duo Marsden & Richardson. Russell Marsden and Emma Richardson first started writing songs together in their teens after meeting at school in their Southampton hometown. Forming Band of Skulls 17 years ago with drummer Matt Hayward, they made five acclaimed studio albums together. The pair have temporarily stepped away from Band of Skulls to focus on a new musical project they've been dreaming about since their earliest songwriting days. In this interview Russell Marsden talks about meeting Emma, Band Of Skulls, writing and recording their eponymous debut album and much more.

With the last weekend of BIG fights, there was a lot to look forward to. It all started Friday night with 'Cage Fury FC's' '104: Bilder vs Buenafuente'. The night was a bit of a 'Serra-Longo' showcase, as they had two fighters in the mix on a six fight Main card, and both delivered in a BIG way! Charlie Campbell got it popping with a ferocious second round stoppage. And then in the Co-main, Phumi Nkuta defended his Flyweight strap, with a dominant performance. Cutting a killer promo afterwards! The Main event, which had late replacement Frank Buenafuente step up to fight Blake Bilder was CRAZY!!! Buenafuente might not have been training for five rounds, but he took it to Bilder, and looked like he was in control. Until in the second, Bilder pulled a triangle out the bag, and became the NEW Featherweight champion!!! Watch CFFC recap: HERE. https://youtu.be/Btb-5WLQ5bM THEN, Saturday night, we had the last 'UFC' card of the year 'UFC on ESPN+ 57: Lewis vs. Daukaus'. Thirteen fights, ten finishes, the year ended with a BANG, f'sure! The Prelims gave use the three submissions of the night, starting with Jordan Leavitt in the very first fight. Then Raquel Pennington hit a Guillotine and Gerald Meerschaert finished things off with a Rear naked choked! Watch Prelim recap: HERE. https://youtu.be/bJxTepzoohQ The Main card opened with a banger, as Cub Swanson gave us a vintage performance, sealing it with Wheel kick KO! Mateusz Gamrot got it done with a vicious knee to the kidney and Ricky Simón uppercut put the icing on his cake! Watch Main card recap: HERE. https://youtu.be/qCmwgUUNV38 THEN, in the Main event, Derrick Lewis roared back with a vengeance, emphatically telling the haters he ain't done. As he KO'd Daukaus, to become the leading knockout artist in the 'UFC'!!! Watch Main event recap: HERE. https://youtu.be/QWYpNkzgiyA So, let's break it all down, in today's (ep 220) @ChinCheckPod - CFFC 104: Bilder vs Buenafuente - UFC on ESPN+ 57: Lewis vs Daukaus *(Music) 'Sweet Sour' by Band Of Skulls - 2008 --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/eftv/message
On our Christmas #EFTV we look at the crackpots at Major League Quidditch and US Quidditch (USQ) have come together to say they want to distance themselves from JK Rowlings. Even though, it's a fake game, she created, in her mildly popular book series. Sometimes relationships get super crazy, and go further than a breakup. A former Boston College student has pleaded guilty in harassing her boyfriend into suicide!!! The James Franco saga continues, as he recent said the obvious, he slept with some of the women at his acting school... Even though, safety features are in place, Tesla are disabling its 'Passenger Play' gaming feature, cause humans need scapegoats! Scientists at the Yingliang Stone Nature History Museum have discovered a dinosaur egg with a perfectly preserved embryo inside. It had been sitting in storage for 10 years. PLUS, 'Marvel Studios' have done it again! All the episodes of 'Hawkeye' with Jeremy Renner & Hailee Steinfeld, are now on 'Disney+'. AND, boi, it delivered straight fire!!!! AND, our Audible book of the week, is a look at depression and the possibilities of life, through Matt Haig's 'The Midnight Library'. This week: - Quidditch leagues want distance from JK Rowling - Former Boston College student pleads guilty in boyfriend's suicide - James Franco admits to dipping his wick - Tesla disables 'Passenger Play' gaming feature - Dinosaur embryo found in China REVIEWS & RECOMMENDATIONS - TV: Hawkeye - S1 - thoughts AUDIBLE - The Midnight Library by Matt Haig *(Music) 'The Devil Takes Care Of His Own' by Band Of Skulls - 2012 --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/eftv/message
As the year is winding down, this week's @EchoChamberFP https://www.instagram.com/echochamberfp/ just has a couple of offerings. We hit Netflix for a thriller, and Prime Video for some wham bam action! 'Two' is directed by Mar Targarona @martargarona and written by Cuca Canals, Christian Molina, Mike Hostench, Daniel Padró. Two people, David (Pablo Derqui) and Sara (Marina Gatell) wake up naked and with their abdomens attached to each other, with no clue why or how this has happened. 'Wrath of Man' is the new Guy Ritchie film, which he wrote with Ivan Atkinson & Marn Davies, and is adapted from the 2004 French film 'Cash Truck (Le Convoyeur)'. A mysterious and wild-eyed new cash truck security guard (Jason Statham) surprises his coworkers during a heist in which he unexpectedly unleashes precision skills. The crew is left wondering who he is and where he came from. Soon, the marksman's ultimate motive becomes clear as he takes dramatic and irrevocable steps to settle a score. It's Christmas, and as a treat, you get another episode of @EchoChamberFP https://www.instagram.com/echochamberfp/ We finally check out the coupon scam movie on Prime Video @amazonprimevideo and then it's all bout the new big budget, ensemble cast, movie Netflix @netflix has just dropped! 'Queenpins' is written & directed by Aron Gaudet & Gita Pullapilly. Dejected and frustrated suburban housewife, Connie (Kristen Bell) feels her sacrifices have never been appreciated and she has been overlooked by her husband Rick, her loved ones and the rest of society. She ropes in her best friend, JoJo (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), to an illegal coupon club scheme, she's cooked up, scamming large corporations out of millions of dollars. It draws the attention of law enforcement, and hapless loss prevention officer Ken Miller (Paul Walter Hauser). His persistance then brings in U.S. postal inspector Simon Kilmurry (Vince Vaughn), and they both have their own reasons for bringing the scammers to justice. Adam McKay writes & directs 'Don't Look Up' with help from David Sirota. Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence), an astronomy grad student, and her professor Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) make an astounding discovery of a comet orbiting within the solar system. The problem - it's on a direct collision course with Earth. The other problem? No one really seems to care. Turns out warning mankind about a planet-killer the size of Mount Everest is an inconvenient fact to navigate. With the help of Dr. Oglethorpe (Rob Morgan), Kate and Randall embark on a media tour that takes them from the office of an indifferent President Orlean (Meryl Streep) and her sycophantic son and Chief of Staff, Jason (Jonah Hill), to the airwaves of The Daily Rip, an upbeat morning show hosted by Brie (Cate Blanchett) and Jack (Tyler Perry). With only six months until the comet makes impact, managing the 24-hour news cycle and gaining the attention of the social media obsessed public before it's too late proves shockingly comical - what will it take to get the world to just look up? Listen as we discuss our fav & least fav moments from this years grandest spectacle, theorize why certain choices were made, & speculate to how somethings perhaps could have gone better than they did. Besides that it was way too long of course, bc that goes w/out saying. + we say it several times too, just bc (good measure). Also discussed; the massive troll job that was THAT #RAWAfterMania, & a lil bit of SD Live. Just a smidge. FOAM: FOAM are a three-piece garage rock band from Perth, WA. Their heavy live performances deliver a filthy wall of sound reminiscent of the alternative rock boom of the late 80’s/early 90’s. Since the release of their first EP Sarpa Salpa in July of 2012, FOAM have released a total of four EP’s, including a split with fellow Perth locals Puck. During this time they have toured the country on numerous occasions playing festivals such as MATES Sydney,Big Day Out and Groovin' The Moo, as well as headlining their own shows and supporting acts such as DZ Deathrays, Wax Witches and Sleepy Sun. In February of 2017, FOAM released their long awaited debut album Coping Mechanisms. The album was written in the basement beneath a toasted sandwich shop in Perth. It’s about coming to terms with yourself, the world around you, and the ways we try to make it work. Recorded at The Woolly Mammoth Ale House, Brisbane, 15th September 2017. Recorded by Eileen Tierny and mixed by Branko Cosic. Morning Harvey: Morning Harvey was formed in 2013, consisting of brothers Spencer and Jackson White and close friend Steve Kempnich. Their debut EP Well For Wishes was released the same year and since then they have gone on to release another EP in 2015 titled “Love&Loveand” as well as a string of singles. Morning Harvey have supported acts like Dandy Warhols, Band Of Skulls, The Charlatans, and Royal Blood on stages around the country. Their single “Smith Street Swap Meet” also gained them attention from John Richards of Seattle radio station KEXP with a Song Of The Day placement leading to support from numerous US College Radio Stations. Recorded at Valley Fiesta, Brisbane, 29th October 2016. Recorded by Reuben Aptroot and mixed by Luke Thomson. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 7-8pm, Sunday 22nd of October 2017. Show production and engineering: Reuben Aptroot.

Nige Tassell comes up from Somerset and (fatally) brings us something to drink. Before it takes effect we cover the following stuff: David Hepworth wonders why the best venues for rock and roll are always the ones built long before rock and roll was ever thought of. We ask when did school choirs start singing Adele songs and is this entirely a good idea? We have a quick chat and a song from Band Of Skulls, and Nige shares some of his most treasured old cassettes with us. Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast.
