Starling Bank told its 2,000 employees on Monday that it had ended a four-year process aimed at launching a retail bank in Ireland. Link here. JUST IN: Stere has expanded its operations to the Latin America insurance market. ALSO: Ashman Finance has received an authorised with restrictions (AwR) UK banking licence. FURTHERMORE, Releasing its first annual results as a publicly listed company, Wise has shared that its revenue grew by one-third to £555.9m in the 12 months up until the end of March 2022. LET'S HEAR ALL ABOUT MERGERS AND ACQUISITIONS: European B2B payments major iBanFirst has announced that it is acquiring UK cross-border payments player Cornhill. AS FOR PARTNERSHIPS The Lithuanian identity verification and compliance company iDenfy, joined forces with Juni, the financial management platform made for ecommerce. Mastercard and Paysafe Group announce the integration of Mastercard Send into Paysafe's payments platform. WHAT ABOUT FUNDING ROUNDS AND INVESTMENTS? Zilch announced it has secured an additional $50m in funding, taking the total raise for its Series C to $160m. Currensea surpassed its crowdfunding target in under two hours, raising £1.35m from over 350 investors on Seedrs. Ophelos has raised £5 million in a seed funding round led by AlbionVC. 4Trans Factoring raised a €3m seed round from Atmos, Tera Ventures and Lighthouse Ventures. Google has invested in Progcap, an Indian startup that provides working capital to small and medium-sized businesses. PolySign, Inc. has raised $53 million in a Series C funding round. Uri estudió ingeniería aeronáutica y durante cuatro años trabajó en la NASA, en California, en proyectos para construir y enviar satélites al espacio. En un punto de su carrera en la NASA, encontró la inspiración de emprender gracias a sus ex-jefes, quienes empezaron una startup en la industria aeroespacial, y decidió que un MBA iba a ser su punto de partida al emprendimiento. Al inicio quería hacer algo en esa misma industria pero durante sus estudios en Stanford descubrió la industria fintech. Después de Stanford, Uri fue CEO de Verse Technologies, una startup de transacciones peer-to-peer en España, donde conoció a su actual co-founder, Pablo Viguera. En 2019, Uri y Pablo decidieron empezar Belvo en México para atacar una oportunidad que seguía más o menos intacta en Latinoamérica. Belvo es una plataforma que brinda acceso a fuentes de datos financieros mediante APIs a diferentes jugadores del ecosistema fintech en la región. En 2020 fueron parte del batch de invierno de Y Combinator y levantaron una ronda de $10 millones de la mano de Founders Fund y Kaszek Ventures. Después de su paso por YC, empezaron a ser conocidos como el "Plaid de Latinoamérica" y la noticia de la compra de Plaid por parte de VISA (que recientemente se cayó) ayudó a impulsar su crecimiento. Actualmente están enfocados en consolidar su presencia en los tres mercados en los que operan: México, donde nacieron, Colombia y Brasil. "Proptech is the new fintech". Victor lo dice un poco en broma, pero en parte por esa oportunidad que ve en proptech, empezó Flat en México en 2019. Él es otro de esos emprendedores foráneos (nació en Barcelona) que le apuestan al ecosistema de Latinoamérica y están generando impacto. Antes de Flat, Victor había enfocado su carrera de emprendedor en la industria fintech con un startup studio llamado STARTegy Venture Builder que incubó startups como Klar, Belvo y Worky (no olvides escuchar nuestro episodio con su fundadora Maya Dadoo). Previo a eso, trabajó en Boston Consulting Group y estudió un MBA en la escuela de negocios Hass de UC Berkeley.
