This week I'm talking to Dr. Christopher Kerr about his BICs essay 'Experiences of the Dying: Evidence of Survival of Human Consciousness'.Dr Christopher Kerr's book 'Death is But a Dream: Hope and Meaning at Life's End'.Christopher Kerr is a hospice doctor. All of his patients die. Yet he has cared for thousands of patients who, in the face of death, speak of love and grace. Beyond the physical realities of dying are unseen processes that are remarkably life-affirming. These include dreams that are unlike any regular dream. Described as "more real than real," these end-of-life experiences resurrect past relationships, meaningful events and themes of love and forgiveness; they restore life's meaning and mark the transition from distress to comfort and acceptance.Drawing on interviews with over 1,400 patients and more than a decade of quantified data, Dr. Kerr reveals that pre-death dreams and visions are extraordinary occurrences that humanize the dying process. He shares how his patients' stories point to death as not solely about the end of life, but as the final chapter of humanity's transcendence. Kerr's book also illuminates the benefits of these phenomena for the bereaved, who find solace in seeing their loved ones pass with a sense of calm closure.Beautifully written, with astonishing real-life characters and stories, this book is at its heart a celebration of our power to reclaim the dying process as a deeply meaningful one. Death Is But a Dream is an important contribution to our understanding of medicine's and humanity's greatest mystery.BioChristopher Kerr, MD, PhD, is the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Executive Officer for Hospice & Palliative Care Buffalo. Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Chris earned his MD as well as a PhD in Neurobiology. Dr. Kerr received numerous awards throughout training that recognized his clinical performance, as well as his success as an educator and scientist. Chris's background in research has evolved from bench science toward the human experience of illness as witnessed from the bedside, specifically patients' dreams and visions at the end of life. Although medically ignored, these near-universal experiences often provide comfort and meaning, as well as insight into the life led and the death anticipated. To date, the research team at Hospice & Palliative Care Buffalo has published multiple studies on this topic and documented over 1,500 end-of-life events, many of which are videotaped. This work was the subject of Chris's TEDx Buffalo Talk, which has been viewed approximately 3 million times and has been the subject of reports on BBC and in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, Scientific American Mind, Huffington Post and Psychology Today. It will also be featured in an upcoming Netflix production and a public television documentary film to be released nationally in early 2021. Dr. Kerr's work was also published by Penguin Random House earlier this year in a book called Death Is But a Dream, which is now being released in multiple languages.https://www.amazon.com/Death-But-Dream-Finding-Meaning-ebook/dp/B07SRQC373/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1613916946&sr=8-1https://www.drchristopherkerr.com/https://www.pastliveshypnosis.co.uk/https://www.patreon.com/pastlivespodcast

This week the I am reading from Dr. Jeffrey Long's BICS winning essay 'Evidence for Survival of Consciousness in Near-Death Experiences: Decades of Science and New Insights'.Virtually everyone has wondered if there is an afterlife. This is understandable, given the appropriate concerns about the mortality of ourselves, our loved ones, and all of humanity. The question of an afterlife has been discussed and debated for millennia. As a physician practicing the medical specialty of radiation oncology, which is the use of radiation therapy to treat cancer, I have been intrigued by issues of our mortality. The question of what happens after bodily death is regularly present in my daily medical practice as I work with patients that have a life-threatening diagnosis of cancer. Prior investigations of near-death experience (NDE) combined with the research that I am presenting in this article have convinced me, based on evidence, that our consciousness survives bodily death.BioJeffrey Long is a medical doctor specializing in the practice of radiation oncology, using radiation to treat cancer. As a scientist, Jeff founded NDERF in 1998. He wanted to know if NDEs were real by directly asking the NDErs themselves. The answer is a resounding YES! As a result of his research, he is the author of the New York Times Best Seller, "Evidence of the Afterlife: The Science of Near-Death Experiences." He also wrote "God and the Afterlife: The Groundbreaking New Evidence for God and Near-Death Experience." As a leading NDE researcher and a medical doctor, Jeff has appeared on national media including O'Rielly Factor, NBC today, ABC with Peter Jennings, the Dr. Oz Show, the History Channel, the Learning Channel, and National Geographic. He has also appeared on Fox News Houston and at the New York Academy of Sciences.https://www.bigelowinstitute.org/index.php/essay-contest/https://www.bigelowinstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/long-survival-consciousness.pdfhttps://www.nderf.org/index.htmhttps://www.pastliveshypnosis.co.uk/https://www.patreon.com/pastlivespodcast

Jeff earned a doctorate degree in Parapyschology from UC Berkley and was the grand prize winner of the Bigelow Institute for Consciousness Studies (BICS) Essay contest, making the best case for life after death and consciousness outside the brain, entitled “Beyond the Brain”. He is the author of the books, The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems and The PK Man and is the host of the New Thinking Allowed show. Jeff provides nine lines of evidence for proof of the afterlife in the essay and we talked about several of them, to include Near Death Experiences (NDEs), mediumship, reincarnation, instrumental transcoummication, possession and more. He also described an experience he had in his early 20s, where he believe he was visited by his deceased Great Uncle in his dream and communicated with him. Jeff stated that this experience was so profound that it led him into his work and study Parapshychology. He is the only person in the US to ever receive a doctoral degree in Paraphsychology from an accredited university. Jeff also discussed with me things like psychokineses, which wrote a book about and poltergeists, all are also topics that help make the case for life after death. Enterprises are “working in isolation and creating communication silos” shares Divya Ghai Wakankar, VP of enterprise business and marketing at BICS. Wakankar tells us that enterprises are working to address the challenges of a distributed workforce, mobility and more, especially customer related communications. Over the last decade, businesses have fundamentally changed the way they engage and connect with their customers, and yet, enterprises worldwide are still struggling to connect the dots between their different communication channels. What is the next frontier in business communication? In today's podcast, Wakankar explains how to achieve ‘communication everywhere' for businesses to improve customer support, maximize marketing campaign, and drive greater operational efficiencies. Wakankar emphasizes the need for communications to be a fluid experience for the customer and tells us how CPaaS holds the promise of delivering just that. “CPaaS is basically centralizing all your communication experience throughout the customer journey, making sure it takes care of all touch points and allowing the customer to use their preferred mode of communications.” Visit www.bics.com

Deadlines. Proclamations. Discussions. Seminars and webinars and panels and great efforts. Even a rare bi-partisan agreement on the overall issue of robocalls. According to Katia Gonzalez Gutierrez of BICS, despite all of this, robocalls might have grown, however slightly, over the past few weeks and months as STIR/SHAKEN should now have begun to have an effect. In this podcast, Gonzalez takes us to a discussion that looks at the problem from beyond the confines of the current policy apparatus, and from the point of view of people dealing with this issue in the European Union. Gonzalez points out that the regulation of robocalling, and related issues, are still not harmonized. There might be legitimate calls being blocked, even while bad actors are still able to make unwelcome robocalls. “We need to find, as an ecosystem, a way to make them (the regulations) coexist, and work together,” says Gonzalez. “There has to be interoperability.” She adds that without better coordination, loopholes will arise, which will be exploited by bad actors, undermining the effort to noticeably lower the number of robocalls consumers and businesses are receiving. According to Wakankar, the imperative to move to a digital future, which had prevailed before the pandemic, was accelerated during the crises. A next step to keep businesses fresh became a necessity. Wakankar discusses how digital transformation offers companies an improved ability to develop and roll out services. These changes can potentially improve customer experiences and they help address some of the gaps created by the labor shortage. 82% of the large enterprise community are, reportedly, during a digital transformation path, aided by things like government stimulus and the demands of the changing work environment. In this podcast, we learn how BICS helps their customers make the transformation happen and happen successfully. There was no influence by either Robert Bigelow or Colm Kelleher on the judging process. The essays were chosen by majority rule with the central criterion being the cumulative evidence for Survival of Human Consciousness beyond permanent bodily death and beyond a reasonable doubt. Because of the very large number of excellent essays that BICS received (204), the judges spent over four months of very intensive work in meticulously evaluating, deliberating, arguing and eventually making their decisions. Why were these essays chosen by the judges? The winners were chosen based on the power of the arguments presented and on how persuasively the essays made the case for survival of human consciousness beyond a reasonable doubt. In reading these top three essays some members of the public may disagree that particular essays should have been included in the top three winning group. That opinion is to be expected. Skeptics insist that people who report UFOs are either mistaken or liars, whereas many true believers are convinced that aliens are visiting Earth and interacting with its inhabitants.Recent years have seen a tonal shift in mainstream media coverage of UFOs following surprise admissions by the US Pentagon that it continues to investigate dramatic sighting reports from its personnel.Canada has had its own UFO projects, too. Science writer Chris Rutkowski has viewed files on these studies, many of which were declassified from higher restrictions. These records demonstrate that many Canadians not only witnessed unusual objects in the sky (and on the ground) but that they overcame their fear of ridicule and possible legal persecution by reporting their remarkable sightings to the Canadian government. What's more, many of the UFO reports were made by military personnel, and many continue to defy conventional explanation.Journey with Rutkowski on a guided tour of the UFO files contained within Library and Archives Canada (LAC), detailing a selection of historical reports that illustrate the kinds of objects witnessed by Canadians between 1947 and 1980, the period covered by LAC's current digitization. These documents offer insight into how the Canadian government went about studying UFOs, how it dealt with witnesses, and what it told the public.Chris is a science writer who has devoted much time to investigating and studying reports of UFOs, writing about case investigations, and offering his insights into the broad UFO phenomenon. This week I'm reading from are the book 'Living In Two worlds' by Lisa Savoy and Sharon Hewett Rawlett's BICS prize winning essay 'Beyond Death: The Best Evidence for the Survival of Human Consciousness'.Sharon Hewett RawlettDoes consciousness continue after death? For 150 years, scientists, doctors, and other highly qualified investigators have carefully collected evidence in hopes of answering this question. In this award-winning essay, Sharon Hewitt Rawlette analyzes the best of that evidence to date.Starting with third-person phenomena such as after-death apparitions, mediumship, and telephone calls from the dead and moving on to first-person phenomena like near-death experiences, memories of previous lives, and memories of the period between lives, Rawlette lays out the vast landscape of evidence for life beyond the grave. She argues that extensive cross-validation between first- and third-person evidence cripples the strongest skeptical arguments brought against each type considered alone. Ultimately, she concludes that the survival of consciousness is the best explanation for the evidence taken as a whole and considers what implications this has for our understanding of the world we live in, even while we are still on this side of death. Both readable and rigorous, Beyond Death is a fascinating distillation of a century and a half of afterlife research.BioSharon is an analytically trained philosopher (PhD from New York University, 2008) who specializes in metaethics and the metaphysics and epistemology of paranormal experiences. My most recent scholarly publication is on the topic of the statistical significance of psychic coincidences and their implications for belief in psychic causation. Her past publications include The Feeling of Value (2016), a defense of analytic descriptivism in ethics, and "What do our intuitions about the experience machine really tell us about hedonism?"
