While the 70's produced icons, and the 80's had some hits, the 90's were perhaps the golden era of concept cars. Designers had figured out the perfect ratio of fantastic to realistic, plastic molding technology meant new shapes were possible, and OEMs were flush with cash. But which of these works of art was the best?

Hoy voy a ser egoísta… ¡ya está bien de pensar en los demás! Así que no voy a hacer, como suele ser mi costumbre, un vídeo pensando en que os guste a vosotros. No. He hecho este video… ¡porque me gusta a mí! Me gustan los coches originales e imaginativos… hicimos un vídeo de Concept Cars. Pero esTos coches de película van mucho más allá… y además hay un “Bonus track”: No me olvido de los dibujos animados o “cartoons”. Me refiero a coches de película que son pura ficción, que ni existieron en la vida real ni era derivaciones de coches reales, lo cual deja fuera a muchos coches más o menos de serie. Por ejemplo, el caso del Stratos Zero aparecido en “Moonwalker”, que era un prototipo ya existente, mismo caso del Adams Probe 16 de “La Naranja mecánica”. También he excluido a coches como el Lotus Esprit anfibio de James Bond en “La espía que me amo”, al DeLorean de “Regreso al futuro” o al Ectomobile de “Cazafantasmas” que es Cadillac Miller-Meteor del 59. No, solo coches de ficción imaginados e imaginativos 1. Batmobile (1966). Aparecido en la serie de TV “Batman”. Comenzamos fuerte porque este es uno de mis favoritos, el Batmobile de la primera serie televisiva de Batman emitida entre 1966-1968 de la cadena ABC-TV. 2. Landspeeder X-34 (1977). Aparecido en una de mis películas favoritas, “La Guerra de las Galaxias”. No tiene ruedas, pero para mí, es un coche con toda las de la ley, un coche digno de un Jedi. 3. Deckard (1982). Aparecido en “Blade Runner”, una de mis películas favoritas… la primera, la secuela llamada “Blade Runner 2049” no me gustó nada. Este sedán propiedad de Deckard lo conduce el mismísimo Harrison Ford. 4. Luna negra (1986). Aparecido en la película con el mismo nombre, “Luna Negra” este coche se adelantó a su tiempo no solo en estética, pues era muy ecológico: Utilizaba un motor de hidrógeno. 5. Batmobile (1989). Aparecido en dos películas de la franquicia, “Batman” de 1989 y “Batman Returns” de 1992. Diseñado por Fireball Tim Lawrence y Julian Caldow es uno de mis Batmobiles favoritos… y lo tengo de slot. 6. Land Rover 101 Forward Control (1995). Aparecido en “El Juez Dredd” confieso que he dudado en ponerlo porque la base es en realidad un camión “101 LHD”. Pero luego he pensado que sí, porque el resultado no se parece en nada al original y es un coche que, realmente, mete miedo. 7. Lexus 2054 (2002). Aparecido en “Minority Report” supuestamente el Lexus 2054 un concept car diseñado por el mismísimo Steven Spielberg. Spielberg, muy detallista pidió a la propia Lexus información e ideas de cómo sería un vehículo que se ajustase a los avances del año 2054. 8. Nautilus (2003). Aparecido en la película “La liga de los hombres extraordinarios” este es uno de esos coches “retrofuturistas” que me encantan. Con este nombre está claro que era el coche personal de propio del Capitán Nemo. 9. Audi RSQ (2004). Aparecido en “Yo Robot” este coche no tiene ruedas, sino esferas, de modo que puede andar de frente, de lado, en diagonal… es un coche que se mueve en el Chicago de 2035. Es interesante que el RSQ desarrollado específicamente para una película, algo inédito con Audi. 10. Mach 6 Prototype (2008). Coche usado en “Speed Racer” una película basada en la serie del mismo nombre, en España se llamó “Meteoro” y que fue un auténtico fracaso. Hoy no voy a hablar de la película, flojilla por ser educado, pero sí del coche que era una réplica del usado en la serie de dibujos animados… Bonus track: Cartoon. Hay muchos, pero muchos, muuuuuchos, pero os traigo una muestra de algunos de mis favoritos, como puedan ser cualquiera de los “Autos locos”, aunque mi predilecto era el “Superchatarraspecial”, no me olvido de los coches de los Picapiedra, muy ecológicos y me dejo para el final, mi favorito de todos, el coche de Gö Tifune en la serie “Meteoro” o “Speed Racer” el Mach 5… Coche del día. ¡Me he dejado un as en la manga! Y ese as se llama Panthermobile, un coche basado en un Oldsmobile Toronado de 1969 y creado por el especialista Jay Ohrberg, un mago. En este coche llegaban la Pantera Rosa y el Inspector Clouseau al principio de cada capítulo del Show de la Pantera Rosa. El coche paraba frente al Hollywood Chinese Theatre y de él descendían la Pantera Rosa y el Inspector. Los personajes son de ficción pero el coche existe. El Panthermobile cuenta de un motor de 7 litros, mide 7 metros de largo, tiene una cabina muy adelantada puertas tipo “alas de gaviota”.

These are the 3 Worst Concept Cars ever made! Concept cars push the boundaries of design sometimes, but how do you know you've gone too far? Look at these as your benchmark. Does it get any worse? I don't think so!

Ya sabéis que, en los coches, adoro el ingenio, la imaginación y que me gustan las rarezas. Os lo explico con una fórmula matemática: Imaginación + ingenio + coches raros = Concept Cars. ¡Como no he hecho hasta ahora un vídeo de Concept cars! ¡Si me encantan! Pues os digo el por qué: Porque mi “consejeros” me dicen que será un vídeo para gourmets que tendrá poco éxito. ¿Me ayudáis a llevarles la contraria? Los verdaderos “coches concepto” o “prototipos” nacen para que las marcas puedan probar nuevas soluciones, presentar nuevas ideas, que la prensa de su opinión, el público las valore y de esa forma, la marca, consigue información muy valiosa. Y para mí los verdaderos Concept Cars son los “operativos” y-o “funcionales”, es decir, coches que te subes, arrancas y puedes dar una vueltecita. Estos son lo que me parecen interesantes y lo que vas a encontrar en este listado. Para mí los Concept Cars de verdad son aquellos que podrían haberse pasado a la serie al día siguiente de su presentación. 1. Chrysler Ghia "Gilda" Streamline X (1955). El diseñador en jefe de Ghia en los años 50, Giovanni Savonuzzi diseño este coche por encargo del diseñador jefe del grupo Chyrsler, Virgil Exner que saldrá a relucir cuando hablemos de otro coche. El diseño era inequívocamente de inspiración aeronáutica, pero es que incluso el motor era una turbina de avión. Suena muy bien, pero esta turbina Garret no llegaba a ofrecer más de 100 CV, pero gracias a su afinadísima aerodinámica este coche llegaba a los 225 Km/h. 2. Renault 600/900 (1957). Mira este coche y dime: ¿Cuál es la parte delantera y la parte trasera? No es fácil. Y es que Renault ya pensaba en coches estilo “Monovolumen” en los años 50, pero eso sí, con motor trasero… ¡y un V8! 3. Plymouth XNR (1960). Era un Concept Car absolutamente operativo, con motor V6 que inicialmente, con preparación de competición, llegaba a los 250 CV y que pronto ofreció más de 300 CV, suficientes para superar los 240 km/h. El “Padre de la criatura” fue Virgil Exner y el coche nació con la idea de ser fabricado en serie... algo que Chrysler no juzgó oportuno… ¡qué pena! 4. Chevrolet Astro I (1967). Buscando info de este coche he leído en una página Web americana: “El diseño de este Astro 1 está a un millón de millas de distancia de los monovolúmenes y SUV cuadradotes en los que Chevrolet utilizaría este nombre”. Pues, ¡toda la razón! 5. Autobianchi A112 Runabout (1969). Diseñado en su etapa en Bertone por uno de los más grandes diseñadores, recientemente desaparecido: Marcello Gandini. Este prototipo funcional, como todos lo que están en esta lista no se llegó a fabricar como tal, pero si fue la semilla de la que nación el precioso Fiat X1/9, los dos con motor central y los dos, preciosos. 6. Modulo Pininfarina (1970). ¡Como me gusta este coche! Lo tuve en escala 1/43 de la marca “Auto-Pilen” y ocupaba siempre un lugar destacado junto a otro Concept Car…. En realidad, el nombre es Ferrari 512 S Módulo porque estaba basado en el modelo de competición del mismo nombre. Es lo más parecido en coche a un platillo volante… y la verdad que volaba, porque este prototipo funcional contaba con un motor Ferrari V12 a 60° de 5 litros y 550 CV. 7. Dome Zero (1975). Por supuesto era un prototipo plenamente utilizable, con motor Nissan de 6 cilindros en línea y 143 CV para un coche de apenas 900 kg. Se intento homologar en diversos países, sin éxito, con lo cual nunca pasó a la serie, pero finalmente “Hayachi San” consiguió hacer coches de competición con la marca Dome, que en japonés significa “sueño infantil”. 8. Aston Martin Bulldog (1979). Este coche nació con la idea de fabricarse en serie… en serie limitada a solo 25 coches. Al final la producción fue más limitada de los previsto, pues se fabricó solo uno. Las puertas de “alas de gaviota” mordían, por así decirlo, parte del suelo, para facilitar el acceso… una curiosidad. 9. Citroën Karin (1980). Confirmado: Los de Tesla con, como dirían mis hijos, unos “copiotas”. Os propongo un ejercicio: Mirad el diseño de este Concept Car diseñado por Trevor Fiore y ahora mirad al Tesla Cybertuck de 2020… es algo más que un parecido razonable. Yo diría que es más una copia que una inspiración. 10. Italdesign Machimoto (1986). ¡Que coche tan divertido y original! Y es que, ¿sabéis quién está detrás de Italdesign? ¡Nada menos que Giorgetto Giugiaro! El nombre de la empresa es “Italdesign S.p.A.”. Cómodos vas seis, aunque apretándose caben nueve en este ¿coche? No sé cómo llamarlo. Algunos pensaréis, “¡vaya chorrada!” en cambio a mí me parece un verdadero derroche de imaginación y la prueba de que las cosas pueden hacerse de una manera distinta… quizás no de esta, pero hay que aprender a romper las reglas… ¡ojalá ahora las cosas fueran así en el diseño de coches!

David walked the hosts through the portfolio of premium-audio brands the company manages, and what is involved in allowing a carmaker to use specific audio brands, including Bang & Olufsen, Harman Kardon, JBL, Mark Levinson, and Revel. David explained how Harman works with manufacturers to produce in-car audio experiences appropriate to each Harman brand. In the third segment Jill is subjected to Tom's “Fake Concept Car” quiz, which includes a “fishy” bonus question. The hosts wrapped up the show discussing the Ram 1500 Classic, a previous generation Ram pickup truck still offered for sale a lower cost than the current-generation model.

The Lanzador features many design aspects that tie back to its legacy but it also differs from many other Lamborghinis by riding higher off the ground – likely making it a lot easier to get in and out of. According to CNN, the Lanzador will offer 1,300 horsepower but since it won't have a gas engine behind the seats, it can provide optional seating for up to four. The extra seats can also be folded up so the rear space can be used for cargo.
