A federal judge has temporarily blocked the Environmental Protection Agency's efforts to reclaim more than $20 billion in climate grants awarded under the Biden administration. The ruling is a setback for the Trump administration, which is moving to dismantle President Joe Biden's clean energy agenda. POLITICO's Zack Colman breaks down the ruling's impact on Trump's EPA and the grantee recipients, along with what's next in this saga. Plus, the Trump administration conditionally approved a liquefied natural gas export authorization for Venture Global's long-stalled CP2 project in Louisiana. Was tun? Fußmarsch nach Sarajevo? Aufgeben? This decision might postpone the determination on new facilities until after the election on November 5, including the CP2 facility proposed for the southwest coast of Louisiana. During this pause, the Department of Energy (DOE) will undertake an assessment to evaluate the “economic and ecological consequences” of proposed projects aimed at exporting LNG to Europe and Asia, regions currently experiencing high demand for this fuel. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, in a teleconference with reporters, indicated that the review process would span several months. Trump Campaign Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt issued a statement: “Joe Biden has once again caved to the radical demands of the environmental extremists in his administration. This decision to block the approval of new facilities to export American natural gas is one more disastrous self-inflicted wound that will further undermine America's economic and national security. On day one, President Trump will unleash American Energy to lower the cost of living for all Americans, pay down debt, strengthen national security, and establish the United States as the manufacturing superpower of the world.” Speaker Mike Johnson also responded to this outrageous decision. “President Biden's decision to place a pause on pending natural gas export terminals is outrageous. By bending the knee to climate activists, the President is empowering Russia, weakening U.S. energy security, and forcing Europe's reliance on dirty, Russian exports. An abject failure.” https://twitter.com/SpeakerJohnson/status/1750930849401376772?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1750930849401376772%7Ctwgr%5E53a9d22dba9bbcb40c5bf619483d24a4966fef05%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.thegatewaypundit.com%2F2024%2F01%2Fbiden-regime-freezes-all-natural-gas-projects-citing%2F Source: thegatewaypundit.com Biden's Natural Gas Pause Will Jack Up Emissions And Empower Foreign Producers, Experts Say The Biden administration's decision to halt approval of new liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminals will not reduce emissions, but it will empower foreign production “Russia and Qatar are clearly in the driver's seat as a result of this decision,” White House officials reportedly met with several activists, including a 25-year old TikTok influencer and members of Climate Defiance, ahead of the decision.

HD 60431, the CP2 star with the shortest rotational period -- Physical parameters and period analysis by Z. Mikulasek et al. on Monday 26 September CP2 stars show periodic photometric, spectroscopic, and magnetic variations with the rotational period. They are generally slow rotators, with rotational periods exceeding half a day, except for the late B-type star HD 60431, which has an unusually short rotational period of 0.4755 days. As slow rotation is deemed a necessary criterion for the establishment of chemical peculiarities, this characteristic renders HD 60431 a special object that might offer valuable insight into, and constraints on, the formation and evolution of CP2 stars. Our study aims at analysing the light variability, deriving atmospheric abundances, and determining detailed physical parameters of HD 60431 to confirm its status as the CP2 star with the shortest known rotational period, with special emphasis on the rotational period evolution. Photometric indices and high-resolution spectroscopy were employed to derive physical parameters, evolutionary status, and atmospheric abundances of our target star. A light variability study was carried out using combined sets of photometric data from ground- and space-based facilities. A circularly polarised spectrum was employed to check the presence of a longitudinal magnetic field in the star. With an age of only 10 Myr, HD 60431 is situated close to the zero-age main sequence and a member of the open cluster NGC 2547 in the Vela OB2 complex. We confirm its status as a classical late B-type CP2 star showing strong overabundances of Mg (1.8 dex), Si (1.9 dex), Ca (1.6 dex), Ti (2.2 dex), and Fe (1.8 dex). No conclusive evidence for the presence of a strong magnetic field was found in the available spectroscopic data. The available photometric time series data confirm the short rotational period and indicate a slight secular increase of the rotational period of P' = 7.5(6) ms/yr. HD 60431 is indeed the CP2 star with the shortest known rotational period. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2209.12207v1

ENERGY IN ACTION - EPISODE 049 Living Rare - An Adult's Perspective Fred Jacobowitz has been diagnosed with Carnitine Palmitoyltransferase Type II (CPT-II/CPT2) Deficiency, a type of fatty acid oxidation disorder. He shares his diagnosis experience, lessons learned and what his rare disorder journey has been like. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS When did your CPT2 symptoms begin? I had difficulty keeping up with other kids when I was young. In high school, I excelled in the sport of swimming, but after workouts I had difficulty climbing out of the pool. In college, I kept getting rhabdomyolysis, the breakdown of damaged muscle which results in the release of muscle cell contents into the blood, which can further lead to kidney failure. It wasn't until I was an adult that I was diagnosed with adult onset myopathic CPT2. At what point did you realize your symptoms were serious and you needed to seek answers? Years later after I was married and had kids, I started experiencing chest pain and was told I was having a heart attack after undergoing a stress test. My wife introduced me to a cardiologist who just started his own practice. He looked over my medical history and determined I didn't have a heart attack at all. I told him about my symptoms and he recalled a speaker he heard at a conference and said I had some sort of metabolic muscle disorder. He referred me to an endocrinologist, who was confident that I had CPT2 and could prove it through a series of tests. Not the symptoms I experienced from childhood, but the heart attack is what brought me to a diagnosis. What primary symptoms do you experience with CP2? People express symptoms differently at different times. For me, if I overdo it I get tired, I get muscle fatigue and lightheaded. I started taking Triheptanoin (C7), which helps to manage my symptoms in addition to diet and exercise. Before I started taking C7 I would get very sick and now I get sick and recover like a normal person would. How did receiving a diagnosis impact your life? I learned about what my diet should be like, what exercise should include and how to walk the tightrope between building and breaking muscle. My physician suggested I participate in a clinical trial, which was a turning point in my journey. Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2020.08.19.258236v1?rss=1 Authors: Stojakovic, A., Chang, S.-Y., Nesbitt, J., Pichurin, N. P., Ostroot, M., Trushina, E. Abstract: Background: Accumulation of hyperphosphorylated Tau (pTau) protein is associated with synaptic dysfunction in Alzheimers disease (AD). We previously demonstrated that neuroprotection in familial mouse models of AD could be achieved by targeting mitochondria complex I (MCI) and activating the adaptive stress response. Efficacy of this strategy on pTau-related pathology remained unknown. Objective: To investigate the effect of specific MCI inhibitor tricyclic pyrone compound CP2 on pTau levels, memory function, long term potentiation (LTP), and energy homeostasis in 18-month-old 3xTg-AD mice and explore the potential mechanisms. Methods: CP2 was administered to male and female 3xTg-AD mice from 3.5 - 18 months of age. Cognitive function was assessed using the Morris water maze test. Glucose metabolism was measured in periphery using a glucose tolerance test and in the brain using fluorodeoxyglucose F18 positron-emission tomography (FDG-PET). LTP was evaluated using electrophysiology in the hippocampus. The expression of key proteins associated with neuroprotective mechanisms were assessed by western blotting. Results: Chronic CP2 treatment restored synaptic activity and cognitive function, increased levels of synaptic proteins, improved glucose metabolism and energy homeostasis in male and female 3xTg-AD mice. Significant reduction of human pTau in the brain was associated with increased activity of protein phosphatase of type 2A (PP2A), reduced activity of cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (CDK5) and glycogen synthase kinase 3{beta} (GSK3{beta}). Conclusion: CP2 treatment protected against synaptic dysfunction and memory impairment in symptomatic 3xTg-AD mice, and reduced levels of human pTau, indicating that targeting mitochondria with small molecule specific MCI inhibitors represents a promising strategy for AD. Com Profa. Denise Grimm e Profa.
