Send us a textGrief can sneak up on you in the quiet after the routines end. When the youngest finishes school and the oldest turns 30, the house feels different, the weekends lose their map, and you start to ask, who am I now that no one needs me at the sidelines? I share the real, unpolished story of how those milestones pulled hidden threads—old Bathurst memories, a brush with postnatal depression, and the sting of feeling invisible—and how naming them helped me find steadier ground. We explore the subtle losses that come with midlife: the vanishing school drop-offs, the end of team sport Sundays, and the social glue of familiar faces. A 30th birthday at Pearl Beach brings pride and a surprising ache as childhood friends return as partners and parents. Digitising old VHS tapes turns into a time machine, making joy and melancholy sit side by side. Then a TV snippet of Bathurst reopens 1995, reminding me that trauma doesn't need to be capital T to carve deep grooves. With support, I learned to call it what it was and to let grief be part of growth, not a sign of failure. This is a raw, solo passion project—no producers, no music, just honest reflection about depression, identity shifts, and the search for purpose when motherhood changes shape. I talk through practical ways to rebuild structure and community, from small rituals to creative work that restores agency. If you've wondered where you fit once the routines fade, you'll find language here for what hurts and what heals, and gentle steps toward feeling seen again. If this resonates, follow the show so you get notified when new episodes drop, share it with someone who might need it, and email me your questions or topics you want me to cover. Your stories help us all find our midlife sparkle.

Send us a textMichael Strehlow brings over 35 years of print industry expertise to his role as Account Manager for Corrugated EMEA at Domino Printing Sciences. Having joined the company in April 2025, he's on a mission to expand Domino's digital corrugated printing footprint across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The corrugated packaging landscape is undergoing seismic shifts. Major consolidations have reshaped the market as industry giants like International Paper, Smurfit Kappa, and Stora Enso expand through strategic acquisitions. These developments follow post-COVID overcapacity issues and reflect companies' desires to strengthen regional market positions amid economic uncertainty.Despite the corrugated industry's traditionally conservative approach to new technology, digital printing offers compelling advantages. Domino's X630i single-pass digital press with water-based ink technology eliminates the complexities of plate production, press preparation, and color setup while enabling QR codes, personalization, and serialization. For jobs ranging from 1 to 50,000 pieces, digital can be significantly more efficient, though manufacturers must analyze their job mix to identify where digital creates the most value. What makes Domino particularly strong in this space? With inkjet expertise dating back to 1978 and now backed by the Brother Group, Domino develops and manufactures critical components in-house, including inks and printheads. Their Swiss-made X630i press directly addresses modern sustainability and productivity requirements. The EMEA region presents diverse opportunities, with Germany leading European production, followed by Italy and Spain. Middle Eastern markets, particularly Saudi Arabia and UAE, show greater appetite for innovation and investment in new technologies. Meanwhile, Domino pursues ambitious sustainability goals, having reduced emissions by 44% since 2015 and aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050.Want to learn more about digital solutions for corrugated packaging? With the recent acceleration of technologies such as IoT, cloud computing, and big data – people and services have become more connected than ever. In response to this increasing availability of data and digital services the transport sector is undergoing a sizable transformation as a result of the growing need for more sustainable and accessible travel solutions. This has stimulated a considerable amount of research aimed at improving the connectivity of transport infrastructure and services, developing new business models that package different modes and services together into one mobile application or online platform to make the planning and payment of trips easier for people and businesses. Such innovation has been termed ‘Mobility as a Service' (MaaS), and was outlined in the UK Government's report Future of mobility: urban strategy, 2019 which aimed to help urban areas harness the benefits and opportunities of new transport innovation. MaaS platforms integrate and analyse data from transport systems, such as rail, buses, taxis and even cycle hire, to offer the user a choice in journey planning.   The concept of MaaS is to make journeys more convenient through streamlining planning and payment and allowing people to tailor journeys to their specific needs.   In its drive to meet decarbonisation and net zero ambitions the UK Government produced a Code of Practice for Mobility as a Service (MaaS) in 2023. This comprehensive framework focuses on convenience, accessibility and innovation to ensure that modern mobility apps meet the needs of the public. Indeed, the main objective is to make transport options accessible to all, paving the way for an interconnected, user-centric transport ecosystem. But how effective would such a system be in the UK? what impact would MaaS have globally particularly in remote locations and low income economies? And is the transport industry really ready to integrate this level of digital interconnectivity into its services?   To answer these an other questions about MaaS I spoke with Dr Kate Pangbourne, associate Professor of transport governance at the Institute for Transport Studies at Leeds University and Sharon Kindleysides, Transport engineer and board member of the European Logistics Association to get their views on what implications it might have for the UK transport sector, the impact it could have on society in terms of accessibility and cost, and what challenges it might face in the UK and beyond.           Dr Jane Pangbourne                                  Sharon Kindleysides   Useful Links Forsight report on MaaS European MaaS Alliance   We would love to hear your thoughts and comments on this episode. If you would like to get in touch, email us at podcast@imeche.org You can find more information about the work of the IMechE at www.imeche.org

Digitising product development and design is the way forward - both from a cost cutting and speed to market point of view.  However certain aspects of digitising more complex products such as apparel and home textiles are still difficult to do - creating a sticking point for taking this from concept to wide spread implementation. One of those challenges is being able to digitise fabric swatches so that when brought into a 3D design environment they show all the nuances that the fabric would show if viewed in real life. That means capturing subtleties in texture, colour, drape, light reflection - and even hand feel.In a sense, the fabric part of the equation has been sort of the last frontier. However that is about to change.  Today I'm sitting down with the man who is at the forefront of a new technology that is making it possible to capture textiles in full detail.  Not only that, he and his team have found a way to make this technology accessible to any company - even SME's or solopreneurs.Meet Jorgen Sevild, founder of INQOVA and a partner at Bandicoot. Jorgen has been a pioneer in the development of technology that can solve the problem of creating highly realistic digital textile images. His academic training as an industrial systems engineer gave him the technical knowledge to work on building this system.  However years of working hands on in the textile industry have given him that all-important understanding of the nuances of textiles - and how they apply to apparel.  It's this perfect pairing of the theoretical and the practical that have helped make Bandicoot such a remarkable solution. In this episode, Jorgen will be discussing1. The key to digitising fabrics so that they look nearly the same in a 3D rendering as they do in real life.2. The simple, affordable technology that is set to revolutionise the digitisation of textiles. 3. What a digitised future looks like - from product development through to retail. One of the biggest challenges that companies face when they look to digitise their design departments - or any other department - is finding that right people with the right skills and experience for this relatively new field of expertise. However without solid leadership and a good team, companies will face more struggle than success as they try to adapt their business to new digital best practices. That's why leading companies turn to Asianet Consultants.  They have a long history of helping businesses find the right talent with the right expertise.I've seen them fill even very difficult to fill positions, ones that enterprises have struggled for months to find the right hire for.  You can learn more about Asianet Consultants at https://asianetconsultants.comMeanwhile, let's sit down with Jorgen and get an inside look at some incredible new technology.USEFUL LINKS:Asiannetconsultants:  https://asianetconsultants.comConnect with Jorgen Sevild:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/jorgensevild/Bandicoot Imaging Science website:  https://www.bandicootimaging.com/INQOVA website:  https://www.inqova.com/Visit A Seat at The Table's website at https://seat.fm

Do digital solutions enhance care and make patients and clinicians lives better? The answer is yes. Especially when deployed in a sustainable, collaborative way working with teams at the front line of care delivery. It is important to develop easy to use, secure tools that save time on repetitive tasks to free up more time for those that need it. “Digitising the most common experience with a customer, felt like a pretty important thing to enable”, says Andrew. Purpose-built for insurance, the all-in-one payments platform is on a mission to improve customer experience, loyalty and retention as well as reduce operational workload for agencies, brokers and carriers. “Insurance in the US is one of the biggest industries that relies on paper cheques. They're outdated, a bad customer experience, unsecure and very expensive to handle.” Ascend is white-labelled to power the checkout for whoever is collecting the payment from the insured – the retailer, the wholesalers or the carrier – whilst also offering point of sale financing for eligible policies. Andrew talks about the importance of customer empathy, whether you're an engineer or in sales and the long-term opportunities for those joining the team to truly modernise, not replace to the insurance industry. For those considering a move to a high-growth insurtech, Andrew says, “Companies are very well funded now. It's not a massive career risk but people should have a rightful degree of scepticism.”  Connect with Andrew on https://www.linkedin.com/in/wynnandrewj/ (LinkedIn) or find out more about opportunities at https://www.useascend.com/ (Ascend) The Insurance Coffee House Podcast is hosted by Nick Hoadley, CEO, https://my.captivate.fm/www.insurance-search.com (Insurance Search), the Executive Search Consultancy for growing Insurance and Insurtech businesses across the globe.
