As the CITES Project Director, Christine Fox manages the planning and implementation of CITES activities. In coordination with the center's Principal Investigator (PI) and CAST Director of Technical Assistance, Christine coordinates  the evaluation and reporting, budgeting, and leveraging of internal and external partnerships related to this project. Prior to joining CAST, Christine was the Senior Director of External Relations for the Consortium for School Networking (COSN) where she was responsible for corporate partnerships, professional advancement programs, and supported advocacy efforts. Her role included managing opportunities for district technology leaders and companies to collaborate. Christine spent the majority of her career in leadership positions at State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA). Most recently she served as the Interim Executive Director,  charting  the strategic direction of the organization and facilitating the members' professional learning opportunities. In addition, she managed product development from conception to publication including Navigating the Digital Shift reports 2015- 2019, the Broadband Imperative Report Series, and the Guide to Quality Instructional Materials. Christine's background includes experience in education and consulting. She has worked as an educational consultant and curriculum developerl, ESOL Coordinator, and elementary school teacher. Dr. Shapira holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering and speech processing from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology.Luann L. Purcell, Ed.D. was the Executive Director of the international Council of Administrators of Special Education, Inc (CASE), a division of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) for 18 years. Dr. Purcell has 48 years of educational experience, as a general education teacher at both high school and middle school level, teacher of students with emotional and behavioral disorders, and assistant superintendent for pupil services for 18 years in a school district with 27,000 students.Judy Rich, EdD, CCC-SLP, is currently a speech-language pathologist (SLP) as well as an education consultant and lecturer at The University of Texas. She worked in public schools for 35 years as a campus SLP, program specialist for speech and language services, special education director, executive director, and assistant superintendent for student services. Angelica Morgan was most recently a Senior Curriculum Engineer at 2U and a research intern at CAST, the Center for Applied Special Technology working on the Center on Inclusive Technology in Education Systems (CITES) project. She will received her Ph.D in learning design and technology from North Carolina State University in December with a research focus on the use of technology for special education students.

Step by step- setting standards, creating guides for teachers, sourcing and vetting vendors, and communicating support, this episode explores how district leaders can implement a comprehensive program to support all students with stories and examples from district leaders themselves. Today's guests are two leaders from the Jenks Public Schools in Jenks, Oklahoma – District Assistive Technology Coordinator Janna Greathouse and Edtech Coordinator Samantha Reid. Janna graduated from the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma with a Master's degree in Speech Pathology. She has practiced as a speech-language pathologist in public school systems in the Carolinas and in Oklahoma, where she currently works. . Her latest pursuits involve efforts to increase accessibility, equity, and inclusion district-wide so that students are empowered to be experts in their own learning and are supported in doing so. Samantha obtained her M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction with an Emphasis on Technology Integration in Education from UNLV in 2006, after which she began working in EdTech. Prior to moving into EdTech, she taught in Elementary School. Samantha is an ISTE Certified Education as well as receiving several other certifications and Micro-credentials through the years. The World Health Organization released a landmark report on vision in 2019. It’s estimated that 2.2 billion people in the world have a vision impairment and of that, nearly half are preventable cases to some degree. As with many disabilities, visual impairment impacts low income individuals, those who live in rural areas, ethnic minorities and persons with other disabilities to a more significant degree.  Much of this disparity along socioeconomic and ethnic lines are highly correlated to the conditions typically associated with poverty and lack of access to quality, consistent healthcare. The spectrum of blindness and low vision is vast and each contains unique circumstances, but there are relatable issues on the whole that are universal.  Our systems are built upon an assumption that all senses will develop equally and wholly. But those in the blind and low vision community are presented with the challenges that stem from this assumption and it affects everything from social development to employment opportunities throughout their lifetimes. In an era of heightened awareness around disabilities, equity and empowerment, one company is driving positive change through technology in a simple, and rather beautiful way. It’s called Be My Eyes.  Be My Eyes is an app that connects blind and low-vision individuals with sighted volunteers and companies from all over the world through a live video call. The app allows these volunteers to assist blind and low vision users providing a sense of purpose for the volunteers, and a pragmatic and empowering solution to the users themselves. Companies such as Google, Microsoft and Procter & Gamble have created unique programs to utilize Be My Eyes to assist their users and more companies are signing on rapidly.
