Newstalk ZB's Mike Hosking might just be David Walliams' biggest fan — and he couldn't believe it when the comedian surprised him in the studio this morning. Walliams, who is in Auckland for his An Audience with David Walliams tour, sneaked into the Newstalk ZB studio on Friday before his first show, catching Hosking unawares while singing (I've Had) The Time of My Life from Dirty Dancing. When he spotted Walliams, the broadcaster was gobsmacked. “No fricking way, how exciting is that! This is magnificent.” “Hello mate, I've missed you. I worry about you in those tight jeans, a man of your age,” Walliams joked. Walliams met Hosking and his wife, Kate Hawkesby, in London last year, joking with the radio host, “I remember Kate, but not you ... still married?” He revealed the surprise had been in the works for some time “because you have a really huge crush on me, and it would be exciting for you”. “Yes, I do,” Hosking confirmed. When asked how the tour was going so far, Walliams said his shows in Australia had been “fantastic”. “I've been so popular in Auckland that we added this show tonight,” he said. David Walliams paid a surprise visit to the Newstalk ZB studio. Photo / Michael Craig “I've got my funny stories that I've thought about what they are and I'm telling them ... but at the same time, the audiences have been so great in Australia, and I'm sure they'll be even better in New Zealand, they sort of give you permission to kind of push it further and further and just be spontaneous,” the comedian told Hosking. “It's really restored my faith in performing comedy. Like, oh yeah, when we all get together in a room, what we really want is a laugh and it's spontaneous, I've been saying some pretty rude things.” Hosking confessed spontaneity was Hawkesby's worry because she didn't want to be embarrassed from their front-row seats. Walliams jokingly replied that shouldn't be an issue for the radio host. “You look like the kind of man that'd like attention.” “No, I don't want to be part of it, I just want to enjoy your talent,” Hosking responded. And now the Great Pop Culture Debate wants to look back at these shared successes as we debate the Best 1980s Duet! We have been looking forward to this episode for over a year. Mike Balsom is a Niagara legend who was a wedding DJ in the 80s and 90s. If you were at a reception during those decades, there's a good chance you will have been blessed with his mastery of the two turntables (but no microphone!). He brings to our episode the ultimate wedding dance floor filler song: "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes. This is a landmark episode for us. Sit back and enjoy! “First dance. First love. The time of your life,” read the posters in 1987, as the words “Dirty Dancing” came to mean, that sweet little movie that brings a smile to your heart and a tap to your toe. Back then, the only way to see the film was to keep returning to the theater. And that is exactly what fans did. Over and over and over again. It's our annual Oscar Special, and this week we're finally ready to tackle one of the most wildly successful movie soundtracks of all time. That's right, this show is all about Dirty Dancing! It's hit single, "(I've Had) The Time of My Life", won the 1987 Academy Award for Best Original Song and the competition wasn't even close. We'll get into that, and how the song very nearly didn't even happen! Join us as we dig into that one, as well as classic hits like "Hungry Eyes" and "She's Like The Wind", marvel at the sheer pop perfection of The Ronettes' "Be My Baby" and Bruce Channel's "Hey! Baby", and ponder the dissonance of album cuts from Tom Johnston, Zappacosta and The Blow Monkeys. So practice those lifts and let's hit the dance floor! We had the pleasure of interviewing Spencer Marcu over Zoom video! Around 2008, SPENCER MARCU was on top of the world. The LA native was well-liked by his classmates. He was in his early teens, had the attention of several girlfriends. Life was good. Then all of a sudden it wasn't. “I started experimenting with things, if you know what I mean. It felt like living like a rockstar at 13.” His rockstar behavior quickly caught up with him and SPENCER's parents shipped him off to a camp far out into the Utah wilderness where he could, they hoped, reshape the trajectory of his life. Anyone put through the kind of crucible that MARCU endured at such a formative age would almost certainly come out the other end changed. When he finally got back home to LA, he suddenly realized the whole world viewed him differently. Feeling isolated, MARCU returned to the one place he could always receive salvation: Music. He hasn't stopped writing since. Music runs through Marcu's blood. His father is an Academy Award winning songwriter, who earned his Oscar for writing the Dirty Dancing anthem “(I've Had) The Time of My Life.” Although he didn't specifically teach him how to write songs, SPENCER's father would point out chords in songs on the radio and show MARCU how to play them on guitar. Before long, SPENCER was shredding Jimi Hendrix solos off the Woodstock live album, note-for-note. He had the tools. Now he had something to say. Hundreds of demos, songs and journal entries later, an album began to take shape. The record he produced is called 'Homemade'. It's an experience of growth as told through 11 separate tracks.1Whilst he recorded in some great studios (Stagg Street Studios, Megawatt Studios, Kingsized Studios) and was assisted by some of the best record producers on the planet, the feeling of the music remained the most important thing. Thus, half of the album is filled out by the demos SPENCER originally tracked at home. Homemade' unfolds like a journey through MARCU's own experience. It's filled with searing guitar solos, bombastic choruses and flashes of hard-earned wisdom. Now, on November 19th, 2021, exactly three years to the day that he finished recording the album and checked himself into detox to rid himself of all toxins including toxic habits, relationships and thought patterns, SPENCER has conquered his struggles, he's happy, healthy and finally ready to share his beautifully authentic and deeply personal 11-track musical biography with the world. In his own words “I have found my way back home. I'm saying the things I wanna say. I'm doing the things I wanna do. I don't have any more bad habits holding me back. I've learned to leave things alone if they're not working out…music is supposed to be a healing and spiritual experience.”We want to hear from you! Catrin Lowe and Rich Nelson from Don‘t You Want Me? podcast join Flixwatcher remotely to review Catrin's choice Dirty Dancing. Dirty Dancing is a 1987 romantic drama written by Eleanor Bergstein and directed by Emile Ardolino and stars Patrick Swayze as dance instructor Johnny Castle and Jennifer Grey as Baby. Set in the summer of 1963, Baby and her family are on vacation at Kellerman's - an American version of Butlins - in the Catskills. After Baby intervenes to help Johnny's dance partner Penny with an abortion she steps in to dance with Johnny and goes on a journey of self-discovery. Marketed as a ‘chick flick' - dancing, pink font, the mega-hit ‘(I've Had) The Time of My Life' by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes, peak Patrick Swayze - Dirty Dancing has much more depth and nuances than a lot of people give it credit for. For a mainstream film to include botched abortions as a major plot point in the 1980s was a brave move. [supsystic-tables id=244] Scores for recommendability for 14 Peaks were high from guests and Flixwatcher. As with documentaries the repeat viewing score was much slower giving a very respectable overall score of 4.10. 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible premieres on Netflix UK on Monday 29 November. Kari connects Franke to his mom as they talk about writing the hit "Hungry Eyes" for "Dirty Dancing," which he also wrote "(I've Had) The Time of My Life," garnering an Academy Award. She also connects Pamela to her mom, as they talk about how one song created a spin-off from "Happy Days," and caused 17-year olds to get married in "Joanie Loves Chachi." They also talk about "One World," the song they wrote for "Earth, Wind and Fire" in 1989, which was recently re-recorded by stars like Patti LaBelle, Christine Ebersole and Tico Torres, as Kari notes hearing it underscored the importance of the environment. They also discuss feeling a soul connection with a person, how adoptive parents are often the true soul connection, while sometimes family members who share the same DNA don't feel that soul connection, past lives and knowing when you're on the life path you're meant to be on, what they do when they feel blue to pick themselves up and whether they hear random original tunes in their heads as songwriters.

Franke Previte was a founding member of Franke & the Knockouts, who had a top ten smash in 1981 with “Sweetheart.” “You’re My Girl” and “Without You,” also charted on the Top 40, plus the songs “Come Back” and “Never Had it Better” got significant play on rock radio back in the day. In all, the band issued three albums for major labels, two on Millennium and one for MCA. After the band’s demise, Previte worked on his songwriting craft, co-writing the two big hits off the Dirty Dancing soundtrack, “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” and “Hungry Eyes” (the former hit won an Academy Award for Best Song in 1987).If you try and find any of the Franke & the Knockouts albums online, you’ll find that they’re fetching a lot of money. That motivated Previte to issue Franke & the Knockouts – The Complete Collection from Friday Music. Featuring all three albums, plus some choice bonus tracks – this fantastic music is back in print. Plus, part of the proceeds from each collection will go to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in honor of his friend, Patrick Swayze, who succumbed to the disease.

Intro de Are You Being Served?Banda de sonidoNothing's Gonna Stop Us Now (Starship)Jefferson Airplane - White RabbitJefferson Airplane - Somebody To LoveBoogie Pimps - Somebody To Love remixThe Blues Brothers - (Everybody Needs) Somebody To LoveQueen - Somebody To LoveDirty Dancing - (I've Had) The Time of My LifeKristen Wiig & Bill Hader's epic lip sync scene from the Skeleton TwinsSylvester LevayCompilado de la música incidental de Mannequin en YouTubeContactowww.kinomanija.si es nuestro sitio webinfo@kinomanija.si es nuestro mailKinomanija Podcast es nuestro Facebook@kinomanijapod es nuestro Twitterkinomanijapod es nuestro Instagramun choclo infumable es nuestro canal de YouTubeTodas las películas que tratamos en el programa las encontrás en esta lista de Letterboxd, y todas las cortinas musicales las encontrás en esta playlist de SoundCloud.
Oscar-winner Franke Previte basically won the lottery in 1987. He first rose to mild fame fronting the early 80s melodic rock band Franke and the Knockouts where he recorded three great albums and scored three top 40 hits you may remember like "Sweetheart" and "You're My Girl." While their "Foreginer by way of Jersey" sound was solid, it wasn't taking over the world. And then everything changed. Franke was asked to contribute a couple songs to a movie called Dirty Dancing (he worried it was a porn) a friend was involved with. He wrote and recorded "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" and "Hungry Eyes" and then sat back and watched as the movie and his songs became a cultural phenomenon that has never gone away. Here we talk about how it all came to be, what it has freed him up to focus on, and the recent release of a killer Knockouts boxset called The Complete Collection that tells the band's entire story. It's a tale unlike any other!

***This is a Spoiler Free Episode*** Well, we don’t give you any more of the plot beyond what the music videos show us. So maybe a few spoilers, but fun spoilers. “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” from Dirty Dancing - 3:19 “Cry Freedom” from Cry Freedom - 10:45 “Storybook Love” from The Princess Bride - 14:49 “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” from Mannequin - 20:34 “Shakedown” from Beverly Hills Cop II - 25:20 Perfecting Musical Perfection (Reranking the nominees) - 29:35 We’re back with another halfisode on the 1987 Best Original Song category. The Mikes were little kids hearing these songs on the radio, which would become the soundtrack of their adult subconscious's. We mine all of that dark psychological territory as well as give you a deep dive into 80's fashions in this episode. For what we may lack as music criticisms, we make up with too much information and outfit tracking. The Oscar performances weren’t available on Youtube, but that didn’t stop us from clicking away. One could get lost on several wondrous tangents on this magical website and get lost we did. We begin with Dirty Dancing and the song that launched a thousand parodies, “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life.” You know the song is good when its first two words are in parentheses, folks. There are some typical Oscar caliber, Oscar-type nominations in this 5, and then there’s a few eclectic choices, or perhaps “sell-out” is a better word. Still, we have fun heckling the music videos, gushing over the performance quality of the lead singers, and talking big hair, Casio keyboards, and mandatory saxophone solos. It was a fun decade of excess, crime, weird butt jeans, and drug addiction, encapsulated perfectly by these 5 nominees. You’re welcome. Stay tuned for our countdown of the 19 films of the MCU where we’ll put a bow on our review of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’ll have another halfisode or two coming again soon (as we recorded a bunch, all at once… which for the record, was a truly GREAT experience), and then we’ll plan some honest to goodness full retrospectives for you, mining Oscar’s cinematic history as well as the show tunes that have warmed our hearts. Plan your next movie night with us and check out our back catalog of episodes. From recent movie events like A Quiet Place and Star Wars: The Last Jedi to our coverage of the streaming giant that is Netflix, all the way back through our 40+ episodes reviewing last year's award season. Back again with another episode. I always rant about how awesome the 80's were in terms of music and I am here to prove it again! The ony thing better than movies from the 80's were the soundtracks that came with them. They both were the vehicle for much of our pop culture today. So today is Part 1 of a 2 Part Podcast, this is The Best of The 80's Soundtrack Songs You Wish You could Forget! No matter how long it's been or how wicked cheesy these songs are they are ingrained in our hearts, souls and minds for life.. Hope you enjoy, next show will be the 80's "Underground" Soundtrack songs. Play List: Paul McCartney - Spies Like Us Kenny Loggins - Danger Zone Ray Parker, Jr. - Ghostbusters The Psychedelic Furs - Pretty In Pink Huey Lewis & The News - The Power Of Love - 2006 Digital Remaster Bill Medley;Jennifer Warnes - (I've Had) The Time of My Life Survivor - Burning Heart John Parr - St. Elmos Fire [Man In Motion] Billy Ocean - When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going Berlin - Take My Breath Away Peter Cetera - Glory Of Love Kenny Loggins - Footloose Yello - Oh Yeah Irene Cara - Flashdance... At the end of this show Andrew Duhon declares that these are the best guests in the history of Happy Hour. If you re a Happy Hour listener or familiar with Andrew s songs you ll know that he s not prone to effusiveness. Quite simply, this is indeed a fascinating collection of New Orelanians. Meet Donny Markowitz and Boyfriend. Donny and Boyfriend had never met each other before they sat down together for Happy Hour. They couldn t be more different they re from different generations, Donny is from New York, Boyfriend is from Nashville, Donny is Jewish, Boyfriend grew up in a severely fundamentalist Christian home. And yet they have more in common than you could ever guess. They are both superbly talented songwriters. Donny is famous for writing one of the pop love song classics of all time, "I ve Had The Time of My Life" from the movie Dirty Dancing. Boyfriend is about to be famous for sex driven rap songs like "Attention" and "Triangle." You can hear both those songs in this show. Remember where you were when you heard them the early music press comparisons of Boyfriend to other female greats like Alanis Morisette, Bette Midler and Carol Burnett if you can imagine that mashup are not unfounded. Cindy Alsfeld lives in the proximity of greatness and the fact that she s not a household name like her politician mother or movie star sister doesn t make her any less awesome than either of them. Cindy s mom is New Orleans icon Jackie Clarkson and her sister is actress Patricia Clarkson. Being born with the same genes but without the desire for the spotlight is, in Cindy s case, a liberating blessing. It s great for us too it s unlikely that Jackie or Patricia would come down to Wayfare on a Thursday afternoon and hang out with Grant and Andrew for an hour for a free drink, but Cindy is up for anything. Andrew rolls out a version of his new song about a window sill lined with nostalgic memories pieces of stone that, like his wandering life from which they are gathered, are fragments broken off of pieces of far flung permanence that, unlike the lives of others, seem to refuse to bind themselves into a foundation upon which to build his own life. It s a beautiful song. Although he didn t include himself, Andrew might have in his observation of the extraordinary talent and intelligence of today s guests. The photos on this page were taken at Wayfare by Douglas Engel. Douglas has more images here. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
