Kim recently took her two girls to Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando for a mother-daughter getaway. Hear more about her trip, learn some strategies for using Lightning Lane, new rides, new theme parks coming, and comparisons between the parks. It was hot, humid, and rainy in the afternoons, but they still had a fun time exploring all the parks. Luckily, Universal Orlando has more indoor rides that help on rainy days. Updates from Walt Disney World Tron in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom - it is like riding a motorcycle but on a roller coaster track. The ride is fabulous but really short. Splash Mountain is now Tiana's Bayou Adventure - this is a two-by-two flume-like ride that has been redesigned. Disney now has Lightning Lane Multi Experience and Lightning Lane Single Experience. With the Multi Experience, it works on multiple rides and as soon as you tap into one ride, you can request the next Lightning Lane. You want to purchase and prebook your first ride in advance. Single Experience is where you can buy a Lightning Lane time slot for individual rides like Tron or Rise of the Resistance. Disney's Lightning Lane experience is better than Universal's Express Pass because they load people from that lane faster. Disney has also changed their rules around their Disability Access service and made it much harder to obtain a pass. Keep this in mind if you have children with special needs and have used that service in the past. Tip: If you want to stay at one of the Deluxe hotels on property, you can stay by renting Disney Vacation Club points. (Riviera has Skyliner access) See Kim's article on renting and using DVC points. Disney is building a new ride in the Avengers Campus and they are getting rid of the Tom Sawyer Island and Riverboat in Magic Kingdom to create Cars Land. Updates from Universal Orlando Note: Universal Orlando hosted Kim's family for this part of the trip. Kim stayed at the Loews Sapphire Falls, which is a Moderate property and does not include the Express Passes. The Sapphire Falls is within walking distance to the parks and guests get one hour early entry. Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure still has very long lines. The nice thing about the Universal Express Passes don't require you to book any times online, so it is less stressful to manage. However, many people have these passes because they are staying at the premium hotels and the lanes load slowly so sometimes you don't save a lot of time (sometimes only about 10 minutes of time savings). There is a Universal Express Unlimited Pass that lets you ride a ride in the Express pass lane as much as you would like, without limits. Universal Orlando is building a whole new theme park in 2025 called Epic Universe. It is going to be further away from CityWalk and the other parks or hotels. It will also have another portion of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Ministry of Magic. There will also be two premium hotels and a How to Train Your Dragon land. On today's show, Dr Wilson Sy discusses his latest paper, “Early Indication of Long-Term Impact of COVID Injections” and his new paper, which delves into the relationship between Midazolam injections compared to Covid deaths. Later in the program, Simeon and Lembit will dissect the day's top stories in Australia. Additionally, Greg Draven will join us to explore the impact of political correctness on filmmaking and its influence on creative storytelling. GUEST 1 OVERVIEW: Dr Wilson Sy has held senior university positions at ANU, UTS and UNSW in physics, mathematics, finance and economics for 15 years. Boikov left Australia at the age of 18 to study at the Moscow Sretensky Seminary. It was here that he had his first posting as a journalist Whilst in Russia Boikov became heavily involved in the Russian Cossack movement. Upon returning to Australia Boikov was elected the Ataman of the Australian Cossack chapter and founded a pro-Russian political newspaper called Russian Frontier. In May of 2022 the Aussie Cossack was jailed for 10 months for breaching a suppression and non-publication order for content posted to his YouTube channel. After successfully winning an appeal against the severity of the sentence Aussie Cossack left prison. In December 2022 the Aussie Cossack defected to the Russian Consulate in Sydney where he was granted diplomatic asylum. From his studio within the Consulate building, he now broadcasts daily on TNT Radio. GUEST 3 OVERVIEW: Greg Draven is an actor and producer, known for The Picnic, 13 Graves (2019) and Missing Hyde. Greg Draven was a stand-in (and then a body double) for Harry Potter's Hagrid in the preshow film for Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure at Universal Orlando Resort.

Jeremy Grunert began his career in themed entertainment as a fan of theme parks. He grew up in Florida, constantly going to the local parks, and eventually scored his first job working at Busch Gardens. Fifteen years later, Jeremy has the dream job of many theme park fans: designing new rides, lands, and theme parks as an Executive Producer at FrankNDesign. After being a fan for years while growing up in Florida, Jeremy started working as a sweeper in the Egypt area of Busch Gardens Tampa Bay at the age of 15. Over the years, he would work his way through various jobs within operations. He became a ride operator, then a trainer of other ride operators, and then attained a leadership position in operations, all before he finished high school. Jeremy moved to Orlando, where he attended college, and began working at Universal Orlando Resort. There, he had the opportunity to commission and open multiple rides, work in the entertainment department, and work on multiple events, such as the Macy’s parade and Halloween Horror Nights. However, Jeremy really wanted to design these things that he had been operating for years, whether they were events, rides, lands, or whole theme parks. In order to make that move, Jeremy utilized his network of industry professionals to find his next dream role. When he was still in school, Jeremy volunteered at the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Expo in Orlando as an IAAPA Ambassador. There, he was able to connect with Thinkwell’s Cynthia Sharpe, our guest from the previous AttractionPros podcast. (This was such a cool, unplanned illustration of how small and connected the themed entertainment industry is.) Even to this day, Jeremy considers Cynthia one of his best mentors and one of the reasons that he was able to take his next career step into working on designing experiences at Thinkwell years after he first connected with her at IAAPA. A few years later, Jeremy would return to Orlando to join Universal Creative and work on Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure and Universal’s upcoming new park, Epic Universe. Recently, Jeremy transitioned into a new role as an Executive Producer for FrankNDesign. When describing his role as Executive Producer, Jeremy called himself a “vision keeper” and “team cheerleader.” He uses his project management skills to keep projects on track while also making sure that the original creative vision is not lost along the way. When asked how this role compared with his previous few, Jeremy said that before, he had always been representing the client, such as Universal, in his work. This time, though he is still supporting the clients, he is working more on the vendor side of things. FrankNDesign wants to expand its streamlined attraction creation pipeline from large clients to a wider audience. FrankNDesign’s secret to success is utilizing a highly detailed 3D model built in Revit to design rides instead of many separate 2D drawings. This model is “smart,” capable of telling you how much of a certain material you need, identifying interferences, and other useful integration features. All of the different people collaborating on a new attraction or land, whether they are ride vendors, building architects, HVAC designers, or operations managers, can work together in this single model. Working in 3D has the benefit of being intuitive to most people, unlike 2D drawings which may only be accessible to a small subset of the people that would benefit from seeing this previsualization of the ride and show building. By having more people take a look at the ride in an approachable manner throughout the development, potential mistakes are more likely to be caught and better solutions are likely to be identified. These robust, buildable models can be imported into video game engines for detailed design reviews or even used by marketing for promo videos. Jeremy also stressed the value of these detailed 3D models in increasing the efficiency of shuttling an idea from “concept to conception.” They begin in the “blue skies” ideation phase, utilizing the knowledge of available intellectual properties (IP) and consumer insights to have a focused brainstorming session. The concept is then developed, with an emphasis on making sure the core tenets of the chosen IP are kept throughout the process. Then, the reality of the budget and timing come into play. All of this is funneled into the design development process, where those 3D models get very fleshed out. After development, the ride is built, installed, and tested before it is rolled out to the public in its grand opening. Then, the cycle begins again with a new project. When asked what students and young professionals should be doing to follow in his footsteps and finding their dream jobs within themed entertainment, Jeremy had plenty of advice to offer, starting with a suggestion to become an IAAPA Ambassador, like he was. Jeremy said that being an IAAPA Ambassador truly changed his life and that, when he was at the IAAPA Expo, he felt as though he was walking down a hallway and every door was open, figuratively and metaphorically. There were endless opportunities to learn, grow, and network. Jeremy also suggests utilizing LinkedIn for networking. He emphasized the fact that so many individuals within the themed entertainment industry are willing to help the next generation find their way into this exciting industry. Additionally, Jeremy suggested looking into the dedicated themed entertainment degrees, taught by industry professionals, that exist at many universities now. New ones are popping up each year. Lastly, Jeremy suggested making up projects to learn and showcase relevant skills and then being sure to share those projects with your network. He emphasized that a project doesn’t have to be super fancy to show off useful skills. One example he gave was redesigning a bedroom. Choosing the paint color, sheets, furniture, and then tracking the project budget and schedule are a great way to demonstrate project management skills. Find a project that excites you and use it as an opportunity to highlight your talent. If you have follow-up questions for Jeremy, you can find him on LinkedIn, Twitter, or contact him via FrankNDesign.com. This weeks show Fonseca and AMV read the reviews of the "Joker Movie",You'll definitely feel like you'll need a shower after seeing it, but once you've dried off and changed clothes, you'll want to do nothing else but parse and dissect it. More review @yournerdside website. Then we sit down with Legion M the fan invested movie company. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run at Disneyland It's not exactly a Fast & Furiousbeef– or a physical brawl like the recent one at Disneyland– but a Disney Parks executive took a clear shot at the insane 10-hour wait times initially reported for Universal Orlando Resort's Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure in defense of Disneyland's own Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. Without naming the Hagrid ride — because he didn't have to — here's what Disney's Chairman of Parks, Experiences, and Products Bob Chapek said about the “win” of Disneyland's Galaxy's Edge wait times: One of the wins that we had with the opening of the original Galaxy's Edge is that we didn't have the waits. The deep secret is that we don't intend to have lines … If you build in enough capacity, the rides don't go down and it operates at 99% efficiency, you shouldn't have 10-hour lines. So, 10-hour lines are not a sign of success. It should be seen as a sign of, frankly, failure Wands vs. lightsabers! He's right, though. It's tough to argue that a 10-hour wait time is a good thing. Sure, it sounds like there's a lot of excitement and hype for the attraction, but on a practical level YOU go wait 10 hours with a 9-year-old. A few months ago, Universal felt the double-edged sword of headlines about the Hagrid ride's opening, with that early 10-hour-wait news probably exciting some fans while making others think they'd better just stay away for a long while. That Hagrid ride was so popular for a time that the park had to cut hours for a couple of weeks for maintenance. The Disney Parks exec got on the defense a bit (via CNBC) because Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge has been in the news for being tied to the slight 3% downturn in Disneyland attendance this summer. He sees the positives, tied to a concerted effort by the company to manage crowds. CinemaBlend's own Disney expert also pointed out many positives in the lighter foot traffic at Disneyland, including that shorter lines make for a better park experience. Disney execs have noted that Galaxy's Edge is currently the most popular area in Disneyland, per Disney's own customer satisfaction scores. That said, one Disneyland employee recently spoke out to press about Disneyland reportedly cutting workers' hours because they expected Galaxy's Edge to be busier this summer. This employee said wait times for the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ride were expected to be over 2-hours long all summer, but instead lines were averaging half that or less. There's a wide chasm between a wait of one hour and a wait of 10 hours. Obviously waiting less time is better for the visitor, and I agree that long lines is not a sign of success. I think “failure” is harsh, but a 10-hour wait time certainly suggests the demand was more than they were ready to handle. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge filled up in under an hour on its opening day in Disneyland, and now Disney World is going through the various wait time and virtual queue system updates as it welcomes its own Galaxy's Edge land. Disney's Bob Chapek added that the goal when they launch the new Rise of the Resistance attraction is to make it “a success under the guest experiential definition. We don't define success as a picture of a long line.” If the guests who actually go to the park and get into the ride enjoy it, that's what matters most. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opens first at the Galaxy's Edge in Disney World in Florida on December 5, 2019, and then at Disneyland in California on January 17, 2020.

Happy 85th birthday to Donald Duck whose been causing trouble since 1934! In honor of the lovable and ornery duck, Joe kicks off the pod by quizzing me on some Donald facts. Do I crush his score on the trivia? You’ll have to listen and see! This week, we talk about the opening of Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland. The first week, wait times were pretty low, especially when you contrast them with the 10 hour wait at Universal to ride Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. So far, so good. People seem to love the Galaxy’s Edge addition. The land looks great. The build your own lightsaber (and droid) experience is a hit. Fun fact, you can take your lightsaber with you on the plane as one of your carryons. People don’t love the prices of the merchandise (but if you’re a hard-core fan of Star Wars, the merch may be worth it) and the Millenium Falcon experience can vary greatly depending on your crew. Blue and green milk is a little odd for a lot of people, especially if you’re not a fan of dairy milk alternatives, but come on, you have to try it! We also talk about what we think the impact of Disney losing the deal to Harry Potter Land back in 2003-2004 was on the future of theme parks (spoiler: we speculate it had a MAJOR POSITIVE impact). Thank you as always for listening and remember to smile, spread cheer, and to not only have a magical week yourself, but make sure those around you have one as well! ❤️ Check us out on Facebook or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode.

Universal Orlando's Wizarding World of Harry Potter has just opened its latest coaster, Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, and we review it! We're joined by The Insider's Kirsten Acuna, who rode the Motorbike Adventure with Andrew. Check out Kirsten's review of the ride (https://www.insider.com/hagrids-magical-creatures-motorbike-adventure-review-2019-6) and her report on the queue's easter eggs (https://www.insider.com/hagrids-magical-creatures-motorbike-adventure-easter-eggs-2019-6) ! And here's Andrew's review (https://www.hypable.com/hagrids-magical-creatures-motorbike-adventure-review/) on Hypable. The ride's queue is intriguing: It's the ruins of Hogwarts, with inscriptions and art from students over the decades. It's here where Hagrid also birthed a Blast-Ended Skrewt. Soooo about this Blast-Ended Skrewt: What large hole is spraying us while we're on the Motorbike Adventure??? Andrew and Kirsten review the ride, which is a thrilling technological marvel. And riding it at night is a whole different experience! The fandom has a new debate on their hands: Is the Motorbike or Sidecar the better vehicle to ride in? We take questions from Patreon supporters: How does this ride compare to the others? How intense is it? In this week's Bonus MuggleCast (https://www.patreon.com/posts/bonus-mugglecast-27696613) , available exclusively on Patreon, we analyze the connection between Fawkes and Dumbledore, and what makes it so special.
