Liver cirrhosis is a chronic condition characterized by the gradual replacement of healthy liver tissue with scar tissue, leading to impaired liver function. This scarring disrupts the normal flow of blood through the liver, impairing its ability to process nutrients, produce proteins, and detoxify harmful substances. Common causes include chronic alcohol abuse, viral hepatitis infections, and fatty liver disease. Symptoms may include fatigue, weakness, jaundice, fluid retention, and confusion. Cirrhosis can progress slowly over years, ultimately leading to liver failure, necessitating liver transplant as the only treatment option in advanced stages. Early diagnosis and management of underlying causes are crucial in preventing further damage and complications.
Migraine, a chronic neurological condition, impacts millions worldwide, with 39 million sufferers in the US alone. Distinguishing migraines from typical headaches is crucial due to their disruptive nature, affecting daily life, work, and education. Symptoms extend beyond head pain, including nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and mood swings. Managing migraines involves identifying triggers, seeking medical treatment, and making lifestyle adjustments. For individuals in high-pressure careers or pursuing advanced degrees, migraines can hinder productivity and career progression. Early recognition of symptoms and appropriate treatment strategies are vital to improving quality of life and preventing episodic migraines from becoming chronic.
A duodenal ulcer is a sore that develops in the lining of the first part of the small intestine, known as the duodenum. It's often caused by infection with H. pylori bacteria or long-term use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Symptoms may include abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, and vomiting. Treatment typically involves antibiotics to eradicate H. pylori, acid-suppressing medications, and lifestyle changes like avoiding irritants such as NSAIDs and alcohol. Untreated ulcers can lead to complications like bleeding or perforation, so prompt medical attention is important.

In this week's episode I had a beautiful conversation with Best-Selling Author, Award Winning Researcher, and International Keynote Speaker Mona Patel who is an expert in reframing the way people think and operate in their companies. For over 23 years, Mona has been a thought-leader on innovation, customer experience and creativity; helping brands like Nike, Facebook, Capital One, First Republic Bank and Pfizer. Since early childhood, Mona stood out with her constant drive and passion for achievement and success. However, later she realized that her addiction to accomplishments was more about external validation than inner fulfillment. Defining who she was, what she really wanted and why, was fundamental to shift from having a life that was “good on paper” to one that genuinely felt good. Even though it was a long journey that required courage, curiosity and consistent progress, Mona paved a path for real fulfillment and happiness both in her personal and professional life. In her book “Reframe” Mona shared her techniques to find and spark your creativity and “superpower” by removing mental, cultural and organizational barriers. This can also be crucial for the corporations that are tackling to bring their ideas into reality by shifting how people see and perceive things. Tune in for an inspiring conversation! Some powerful takeaways from today's episode: It is important to differentiate what feels good and what will really make you happy in the long-run Reflecting can be more powerful than merely advising Take one small step towards your desired direction day by day Your ego will obey when you start asking the right questions Doing something different every day can stimulate you to see things differently Links: Guest's LinkedIn: Mona Patel | LinkedIn Gray Zon's Website: https://www.grayzones.org/ THE RE:INVENTION EXCHANGE - for more Inspired Content, Blogs, Podcasts, RE:INVENTION Virtual Chats, or to buy a copy of my book RE:INVENT YOUR LIFE! Yes, there's nothing wrong in indulging in comfort food or your favourite fried and junk food once in a while. Practicing portion control and making these comfort foods at home can be good ways to indulge in comfort food yet not compromise on your health entirely. Eating everything in moderation, practicing portion control, including variety in your meals and maintaining a balance can help you eat healthy consistently.

There are many treatments, depending on the infertility cause. Many infertile couples will go on to conceive a child without treatment.

Mona Patel is our first guest whose passion and creativity does not end up on paper or canvas, but in relationships with others. Mona, who can't help but live out her early love of being on stage for a cause, is the Founder and Executive Director of The Urban Revival Project, a registered non-profit organization dedicated to supporting youth and adults in everything from food and financial needs to educational tutoring and spiritual counseling, in New Brunswick, NJ. The creativity and life stories of her volunteers lead the way into programs that include the creation of art, writing, and more for those who they work with. Once such program, Art Therapy for women who lost their loved ones to COVID-19, brought together a broken community to create tree of life paintings. Mona has worked as a Christian Youth Leader, Teacher, and Program Director for over 30 years. In this recording we hear all about her road to forming The Urban Revival Project and how discernment at silent retreat centers helped her break into a whole other level of faith in action. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thestolenhourspodcast/message

San Antonio Amputee Foundation with Mona PatelAt the age of 17, while walking on my college campus, Mona was struck a few times by a drunk driver. About the Guest Mona Patel received the call she was nominated as a CNN Hero and was in shock. Patel, who founded the San Antonio Amputee Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which focuses on rebuilding lives of amputees through peer support, education, recreation, and financial assistance, is quick to share her journey as an amputee with others going through the process. "When somebody becomes an amputee, maneuvering through the system is sometimes just scary," said Patel. "I think the big catalyst of me doing what I do to help the amputee community is because I lived it." CNN Heroes honors everyday people who have dedicated their lives to change the world. Patel has helped hundreds of amputees live life to the fullest. Each top 10 CNN Hero will receive a $10,000 cash prize and training from the Annenberg Foundation. Today I have the distinct pleasure of interview my colleague and friend Mona Patel for the second time. She just found out she is has made the top ten finalists in CNN's prestigious Heroes Award show, which will air on the same channel on December 17th at 6:00pm. On a spring day in 1990, Mona Patel was walking to class at Cal Poly University when a drunken driver slammed into her. She was 17. Weeks later, when Patel got out of the ICU, she underwent her first amputation. It was the start of seven years' worth of surgeries in attempts to salvage the rest of her leg. But along the way, as Patel continued to struggle physically with her disability, she also struggled to find a support group for amputees. In 1997, with the prospect of another amputation, Patel made a promise. "I vowed that once I got back on my feet, I would start one," she said. Today, Patel's nonprofit, the San Antonio Amputee Foundation, aims to help amputees rebuild their lives. The group offers peer support, education and recreation opportunities, as well as financial assistance for basic home and?car modifications and prosthetic limbs. Please vote for her every day and help her win the grand prize of $100,000.00. This will go toward expanding and funding her program for youth in living with limb loss. About the host. On this episode we are so excited to welcome Mona Patel, a dynamic and engaging entrepreneur with 17 years experience convincing leaders of some of the world’s biggest brands to understand value and optimize their customer’s experiences. Mona didn’t have a business plan when she jumped, she just followed her gut. She didn’t believe in herself and then one day she did. She used that momentum and started sprinting and has been doing that since. The benefit of not having a plan is you’re almost constantly listening for clues to create one. That early stage for Mona was about figuring out what she wanted to do. Listening helped Mona land her first and second projects. She wasn’t pitching what she could do; she was listening for what they needed. UX stands for User Experience. The field is based around understanding what a user or customer wants and needs from a brand and then designing solutions to meet that need. At Motivate Design their version of UX has always been around using design to motivate people to change their behavior. Mona’s undergrad is in psychology and engineering. It was understanding how people think, memory cognition, behavior and then the application of that to physical product design. Entrepreneurs, sit down with your team. If you don’t have a team it can be friends and family. Ask them to write down as many what if questions as they can in a three minute period that answers a problem statement that you propose to them. The first set is not always the best answer so I’m going to ask you to do it three times. Nine minutes total and share in between. The result will be: You will come up with an answer. You will get unstuck. If you think about it the number of what if questions you ask are often negative. What if I fail? What if I can’t? What if I lose? What if people make fun of me? What if I have to go back to a job? That’s what holds you back. Use that opening what if for positive. Shift from what if I can’t to what if I don’t? Working with a coach is really important. But it’s also important to list what you want to get done in your life. Write down your life goals. You aren’t going to get there if you don’t know What your goal is Why it’s important to you. If a Ted Talk is one of your goals, when are you going to start? It’s not going to be easier by avoiding it. You can commit to watch one every week and get the rhythm of how it works. You can also get yourself on stages and get a public speaking coach so you’re refining yourself. Maybe it’s journaling everyday so you start to identify your story. Three things to invest in when starting a new business Get a coach Don’t create a company around yourself Networking You can find Mona Patel at: Website: www.motivatedesign.com Email: mona@motivatedesign.com
As the passionate founder of Motivate Design – a user experience research, design and staffing firm – Mona works with large organizations to help them understand how users are using their brand, product or service. Overall, Mona and her team tackle a big question: How do you understand how people work and think, and then how does that apply to the design of products? Her team will heavily research, work intentionally across industries, apply different perspectives, and even shadow actual users, to find insights that can then help improve the experience a customer has with certain service or product. When she’s not leading her team of 25 at Motivate Design, which also happens to be an Inc. 5000 company, Mona is an instructor at Parsons The New School for Design. Her passion for encouraging others to think about design problems creatively has expanded to writing a book, Reframe: Shift The Way You Work, Innovate and Think; hosting workshops, launching design camps for kids and even a children’s design book. Earl Nightengale Click Below to Listen to Today's Show Today's quote is part of Sir Richard Branson's Top 10 Quotes on ideas. Thanks, Sir Richard for the inspirational quotes. Everything begins with an idea." – Earl Nightengale We had a guest speaker at our office the other night. Mona Patel, CEO Motivate Design -presented her concepts of Innovation through Design Thinking. You can follow Motivate Design on Twitter @Motivate_Design or Mona at @MonaPatel We were led through 3 parts of an 8 part exercise to get us to start thinking out of the normal scenarios in which we work. The Message: Unlock Your Creativity by Asking What If As Earl Nightengale says, "Everything begins with an idea." Sometimes those ideas can come about by asking yourself, "What If?" We went through an exercise trying to think about ways that we as a company can move forward, move fast more effectively. What ideas could we come up with in 3 minutes by asking ourselves What if? The important part was to not judge what we were saying or what our ideas were. What If we could do this and this would happen? What if we did this and then this and this team would be able to do that? Each person went through this exercise in the three minutes time to get these ideas out. Once we wrote out our What If's in the 3 minutes, we had to stop. We broke up into groups of 4-5 people then we each read one What If out loud to the others. Each person would read a What if, then the others were only allowed to say one of three things. Plus 1 - if they thought of the same thing. Plus Love - if they Really LOVED the idea and supported it. I'm Good, if they were out of ideas to share. This went on through the lists. It is amazing what ideas were thought of that we all thought Plus Love. These were ideas that we could then take further. The next exercises had us send our ideas through "Funnel Vision" and ask 3 questions: Did we LOVE the Idea - If yes, move to the next question. If no, the idea was out! Does the idea meet business needs? If it won't help the business, then the idea was out. Does it show empathy for the end user. (That would be us! That was what the goal was to begin with.) All of the exercises allowed us to bring out IDEAS using these tools. What ideas have had that could help you, your business, your career, etc.? How do you go about creating ideas? Think about how and what you can Ideate, Create, Innovate in your life. Everything begins with an idea! Thank you for listening to Goal Getting Quote of the Day!
