an Anderson Talks New Jethro Tull Album Curious Ruminant And Band's Legacy On The Loaded Radio Podcast TL;DR Jethro Tull frontman Ian Anderson joins The Loaded Radio Podcast to discuss the band's latest album Curious Ruminant, which arrived on March 7, 2025. Anderson shares insights into the songwriting process, the return of former keyboardist Andrew Giddings, and how the band's sound continues to evolve. He also reflects on Jethro Tull's historic Grammy win over Metallica, their legacy in progressive rock, and more. Listen to the full episode at the bottom of this article or wherever you get your podcasts. Ian Anderson Discusses Curious Ruminant And Jethro Tull's Everlasting Influence Few bands in rock history have maintained the creative energy and musical sophistication of Jethro Tull. With a career spanning over five decades, the British progressive rock icons are set to return with their latest studio album, Curious Ruminant. This marks their third album in just four years, following the success of The Zealot Gene (2022) and RökFlöte (2023). Ian Anderson, the band's founder, flutist, and frontman, joined The Loaded Radio Podcast to discuss the new record, the creative process behind it, and Tull's enduring legacy in the world of progressive and folk rock. Curious Ruminant: A Deep Dive Into The New Album The album consists of nine tracks, ranging from short two-and-a-half-minute compositions to a near seventeen-minute epic. The LP features a mix of full-band performances and intricate acoustic arrangements, staying true to Tull's signature blend of progressive rock, folk, and classical influences. Notably, the album sees the return of former keyboardist Andrew Giddings, alongside longtime members David Goodier (bass), John O'Hara (piano, keyboards, accordion), and Scott Hammond (drums). Newcomer Jack Clark makes his Jethro Tull recording debut on electric guitar, while James Duncan (drums, cajón, percussion) also contributes to the recording. Anderson revealed that some of the compositions stem from unfinished instrumental demos recorded years ago, yet they blend seamlessly with the newly crafted material. The album's sonic palette includes not only his signature flute solos and melodies but also accordion, mandolin, acoustic and tenor guitars, evoking the spirit of Jethro Tull's 1970s folk-prog era. Ian Anderson On The Writing Process The creative process for Curious Ruminant began shortly after the release of RökFlöte in 2023. Anderson started conceptualizing the album in late 2023, with the first musical ideas taking shape by May 2024. By June, lyrics and melodies were flowing effortlessly, creating a natural synergy between the new and previously recorded material. Unlike many of Tull's past releases, Curious Ruminant features more personal, introspective lyrics. Anderson, known for his sharp observational songwriting, balances his trademark wit with moments of deep self-reflection. However, as he humorously points out, fans shouldn't expect the typical “I-me” lyricism found in mainstream rock and pop. Jethro Tull's Historic Grammy Win Over Metallica In addition to discussing the new album, Anderson reflects on one of the most controversial moments in Grammy history—Jethro Tull's victory over Metallica in the Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance category in 1989. At the time, Metallica was widely expected to win for …And Justice for All, but the award instead went to Tull's Crest of a Knave, sparking outrage among metal fans. While Anderson has addressed the incident numerous times over the years, he still finds humor in the situation. The band didn't even attend the ceremony, assuming they had no chance of winning. However, the moment has since become an infamous chapter in both Jethro Tull's and Metallica's histories. An Enduring Legacy Formed in 1967, Jethro Tull carved a unique path in rock music by incorporating progressive rock, folk, blues, and classical elements into their sound. Led by Anderson's unmistakable flute playing and poetic lyricism, the band has released 23 studio albums, including landmark records like Aqualung (1971), Thick as a Brick (1972), and Songs from the Wood (1977). Even after decades in the industry, Anderson remains committed to crafting thought-provoking, musically rich compositions. With Curious Ruminant, he continues to push the boundaries of Tull's sound while honoring its rich legacy.

The band expanded its lineup with the addition of guitarist Joakim "Jolly" Karlsson and drummer Nick Folio. Their inaugural self-titled album, released in 2016 under Sumerian Records, garnered critical acclaim, setting the stage for their musical journey. BAD OMENS would continue their sonic exploration with the release of "Finding God Before God Finds Me" in 2019, accompanied by a deluxe version in 2020. The momentum surged with their third album, "The Death of Peace of Mind," unleashed in 2022. This release featured the sleeper hit "Just Pretend," marking a significant milestone in BAD OMENS' career as their biggest hit to date. In the podcast, "Jolly" discusses the band's creative process, the upcoming tour with BRING ME THE HORIZON and much more. On a contrasting note, DERISION CULT emerges as an industrial metal project hailing from Chicago, Illinois. Propelled by caustic lyrics and thrash guitars immersed in a dystopian soundscape, their albums serve as poignant reflections of contemporary societal challenges. Fronted by Dave McAnally, DERISION CULT's lyrical focus delves into themes of manipulation and media influence perpetuated upon the public. In an age where news and discourse aim more to evoke emotions than stimulate critical thinking, DERISION CULT takes a stand. Th second portion of the podcast features DERISION CULT mastermind Dave McAnally who discusses the outfit's latest LP, "Mercenary Notes Pt 1". Exploring the ongoing narrative of "Mercenary Notes Pt 1", DERISION CULT delves into the pervasive themes of overstimulation and corporate-driven manipulation within the public sphere, all aimed at boosting product sales. With an extensive background in the advertising industry, mainman Dave McAnally draws upon decades of firsthand experiences to craft a collection of tracks that serves as a survival guide for navigating the challenges of maintaining mental health in a media-saturated world intent on stirring hysteria and sensationalism among the masses. Joining forces with producer Sean Payne, who contributes the classic Glitch Mode Chicago Industrial sound to the tracks, Dave McAnally shares his vision for pushing the boundaries of production quality. "Mercenary Notes Pt 1" boasts a star-studded lineup of guest contributors, including Chris Connelly (MINISTRY, PIGFACE), Reeves Gabrels (David Bowie, THE CURE), and Justin Broadrick (GODFLESH). Chris Connelly takes the lead vocals on one of the album's standout singles, "Deaf Blood," a track accompanied by an animated video crafted by Empire Animate based in Vancouver. The infusion of diverse talents further enriches DERISION CULT's sonic landscape, elevating the project to new heights within the industrial metal genre. In a musical landscape marked by both the dynamic rock soundscapes of BAD OMENS and the industrial metal resonance of DERISION CULT, these two projects offer contrasting yet equally impactful perspectives on the contemporary challenges facing society. While BAD OMENS reaches new heights with their melodic prowess, DERISION CULT digs deep into the gritty complexities of modern existence, creating a unique dichotomy within the realm of American rock and metal.

TYPE O NEGATIVE guitarist Kenny Hickey and drummer Johnny Kelly look back at their time with the iconic goth metal band on this week's edition of The Loaded Radio Podcast TYPE O NEGATIVE, the iconic gothic metal band known for their unique blend of dark humor and brooding melodies, delivered another dose of their signature sound with their 2003 album, “Life Is Killing Me.” Released on June 17, 2003, this album marked a significant addition to the band's discography. “Life Is Killing Me” retained the band's characteristic mix of doom-laden riffs, Peter Steele‘s deep, haunting vocals, and lyrics that often tread the line between melancholic and macabre. The album explored a wide range of themes, from the struggles of daily life to the band's notorious wit, all set against a backdrop of heavy, atmospheric music. TYPE O NEGATIVE formed in Brooklyn, New York, in 1989. Led by the charismatic and enigmatic frontman Peter Steele, the band gained notoriety for their dark and melancholic sound, blending elements of doom metal, gothic rock, and industrial music. With a unique blend of dark humor and introspection, their albums, including "Bloody Kisses" and "October Rust," became iconic in the gothic and metal music scenes. Tragically, Peter Steele's death in 2010 marked the end of the band, but their influential music continues to captivate listeners worldwide. In the interview, Kenny and Johnny discuss the turbulent times while making the "Life Is Killing Me" album, they're favorite TYPE O NEGATIVE songs, a possible live album and much more.

Featuring Steve Riley, Kelly Nickels, Scott Griffin and Kurt Frohlich. This is the second track from the band leading up to their highly anticipated new album The Dark Horse. The feeling of frustration sinks in as you realise you have to end it and wish you could go back and “rewind” and make different decisions. "As expected another blistering assault by Riley's L.A. Guns. I cannot wait for the world to hear their second album – it will definitely set them apart from all others," says Golden Robot Global Entertainment Founder and CEO Mark Alexander-Erber. To accompany their new single 'Rewind,' the band are releasing a limited edition bundle series of vinyls. With each single leading up to the release of their new album The Dark Horse, Riley's L.A. FROM ASHES TO NEW hail from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, with musician Matt Brandyberry being the founding and sole constant member of the group. The band has released three studio albums, being Day One (2016), The Future (2018), and Panic (2020).  FROM ASHES TO NEW recently delivered an intense and captivating new single “Nightmare,” taken from their upcoming as-yet-titled fourth studio album which is due this summer via Better Noise Music. “Nightmare” masterfully showcases the dual vocal abilities of Brandyberry and singer Danny Case in contrasting heavy rock anthemic choruses with nu-metal/rap rock verses.  “Betrayal by someone we trust happens to the best of us,” says Case. “We befriend someone, let them in, build a connection and then all of a sudden they turn into someone unrecognizable. Someone you once trusted and cared for so deeply is now a backstabbing enemy. In a heartbeat, the person you once thought you knew is now gone. There aren't many things in life that cut quite as deep as betrayal. Erasing that person from your life and moving forward is the only way to wake up from the nightmare.” In the interview, Danny talks about the upcoming album, how he was brought into the band, appearing in a horror movie and more. Also, host Scott Penfold discusses the recent reunion between MEGADETH and former guitarist Marty Friedman which recently took place in Tokyo, Japan. Fans of the "Rust In Peace" era of the band were definitely looking forward to Marty's appearance and Dave Mustaine and comany definitely delivered at the legendary Budokan.

Helmed by SANGUISUGABOGG drummer Cody Davidson, the LP crushingly splits through with such a horrifying, brutal attack, which is thanks in part to the mixing duties of CONVERGE guitarist and studio vet Kurt Ballou [HIGH ON FIRE, NAILS] who “made it sound like us on steroids,” says Swank. Devin discusses the album in this week's podcast, as well as the NSFW video for its latest single "Face Ripped Off", which doesn't even hesitate for a second to take its unflinching gore to the next level. Also joining host Scott Penfold on this week's show is PIERCE THE VEIL guitarist Tony Perry, who is promoting the band's latest effort "The Jaws of Life". The San-Diego based group's upcoming fifth studio album is set to be released on February 10 after a seven year wait between LP's. This release will also mark PIERCE THE VEIL's first album not to feature drummer Mike Fuentes, who vacated the band in 2017. The album features collaborations with Brad Hargreaves of THIRD EYE BLIND as well as 19-year-old musician Chloe Moriondo. The album has been said to have a more "melodic and intimate" sound than past records, while also taking influence from grunge bands of the '90s.
