Living for God - John 1:19-28 - Nick Hansen - November 24th, 2024 Scripture Reading Joh 1:19 This is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent to him priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?" Joh 1:20 And he confessed and did not deny, but confessed, "I am not the Christ." Joh 1:21 They asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" And he said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" And he answered, "No." Joh 1:22 Then they said to him, "Who are you, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?" Joh 1:23 He said, "I am A VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS, `MAKE STRAIGHT THE WAY OF THE LORD,' as Isaiah the prophet said." Joh 1:24 Now they had been sent from the Pharisees. Nick Hansen - June 9th, 2024 - The Only Begotten God Main Scripture Joh 1:14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. Joh 1:15 John testified about Him and cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, `He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.'" Joh 1:16 For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. Joh 1:17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. Joh 1:18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him. Father Provides for Gives wisdom Gives direction cherishes Builds up Disciplines protects Son Relies on Learns from Obedient to Admires / respects Echoes / imitates Grows independent trusts Observations The word “Father” occurs twice in this chapter, v14 and v18. The word “Son” occurs for the first time in verse 18. The word translated “only begotten” occurs 9 times in the entire Bible, and four of those in the gospel of John, two are in these verses. The phrase “grace and truth” occurs twice in these verses and nowhere else in the Bible. The Apostle John is carefully weaving the introduction of John the Baptist into this prologue. In v6-8, and then this verse. John 1:15 is echoed once more in verse 30. The name of Jesus is mentioned for the first time (this gospel) in v17. Perfect Relationship The Father and Son are equal in glory. Grace, goodness, holiness, and truth. The Father and Son are in perfect relationship. The Father and Son are united in their will. Related Scripture Col 1:19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, Col 1:20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. 1 Timothy 6:16: "Who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen." Related Scripture Rom 3:19 Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God; Rom 3:20 because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin. Rom 3:21 But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, Rom 3:22 even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; Rom 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Rom 3:24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; Rom 3:25 whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed; Rom 3:26 for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Heb 11:17 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was offering up his only begotten son; Heb 11:18 it was he to whom it was said, "IN ISAAC YOUR DESCENDANTS SHALL BE CALLED." Heb 11:19 He considered that God is able to raise people even from the dead, from which he also received him back as a type. Gen 22:1 -10 What was it, blessed God What was it, blessed God, Led Thee to give Thy Son, To yield Thy well-beloved For us by sin undone? Good Friday Service - Nick Hansen - March 29th, 2024 - Easter Means Emptied What is Good Friday all about? The day to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. What is Easter Sunday all about? The day to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Is the specific date or name of the holiday very important? Not particularly, we actually spend time “in remembrance” of Jesus every week. But it's nice to have some extra time off and special gatherings! Jesus Sacrifice on the Cross Rom 5:6 For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Rom 5:7 For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. Rom 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Rom 5:9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. Num 15:1 Now the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, Num 15:2 "Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, `When you enter the land where you are to live, which I am giving you, Num 15:3 then make an offering by fire to the LORD, a burnt offering or a sacrifice to fulfill a special vow, or as a freewill offering or in your appointed times, to make a soothing aroma to the LORD, from the herd or from the flock. Joh 1:2 He was in the beginning with God. Joh 1:3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. Joh 1:4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. Joh 1:5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. Joh 1:6 There came a man sent from God, whose name was John. Joh 1:7 He came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe through him. Joh 1:8 He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light. Joh 1:9 There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. Joh 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. Joh 1:11 He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. Joh 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, Joh 1:13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. Christ's Deity, Pre-Eminence Reading the Bible in order, John 1 comes as a surprise. Where did this deep, profound, and highly symbolic discourse come from? But in reality it is a review, and synthesis, because John had read the rest of the new testament and studied it in great detail. Col 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. Col 1:16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities - all things have been created through Him and for Him. Col 1:17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. The light, the dark, and accountability Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, Rom 1:19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. Rom 1:20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. Believe and Become Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: (KJV) Joh 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, (NASB) Joh 1:12 But as many as received Him, He gave to them authority to become the children of God, to those who believe on His name, (MKJV) 1Jn 3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be. In this interview, we discuss derivative trading, the potential impact of the BlackRock ETF on the market, the challenges Bitcoin miners face, the political and economic situation in Argentina, and the importance of hedging in business operations. - - - - Bitcoin's price has been relatively stable for well over a year. Whilst prices have recovered from the cycle lows seen in November 2022, the rapid price swings, which have been a feature of the market since its launch, have subsided. Nevertheless, a series of events are aligning that raise the prospect of a renewed period of volatility in the near future: the approval of a spot ETF, the Bitcoin halving, and further macro shocks. The issue for capital investment in the Bitcoin mining space is that such volatility distorts and stresses normal business management practices. There have been numerous mining companies that have suffered existential crises because they have over-extended at the wrong time, or, they have had ineffective hedging strategies. Luxor aims to help improve the cost of capital for Bitcoin miners through the introduction of new derivative products. Luxor's strategy is predicated on hashrate being treated as an asset class; miners are able to sell their hashrate forward, guaranteeing a return. The contracts are determined by an agreed hashprice, which is a function of various variables: the block subsidy, transaction fees, network difficulty, and bitcoin price. These contracts are then tradable as derivatives, which enables investors to gain exposure to Bitcoin mining without needing to be physically involved. Luxor is also working on additional financial products, including what will be a controversial yield instrument. There is still significant hesitancy in the community around such markets, and it will take time to build liquidity. Perhaps a new approach can renew demand for lending. In this interview, we discuss the distress within the Bitcoin mining industry caused by a perfect storm of leverage, stagnant value, huge growth in capacity, energy price shocks and wider headwinds affecting investment. This could become a national security issue. - - - - Exactly one year ago, US Bitcoin mining companies were posting record quarterly profits. A huge amount of investment followed China's mining ban making North America the centre of global Bitcoin mining. It spurred the development of mega miners: companies developing industrial-scale operations. These companies started building out new sources of energy and developing unique relationships with grid operators. And Bitcoin's price was at an ATH. Roll on one year, and the industry is facing a potential crisis. Bitcoin price is at 2-year lows, the hash rate is at an all-time high, investment is drying up due to a range of issues, rig prices have tanked, whilst a swath of companies are struggling to manage debt obligations. Add to this the wider fallout as a result of the FTX collapse. It really is a perfect storm. At the same time, companies are being buffeted by widespread disinformation, and polarised attacks predicated on energy usage concerns. Regulators seeking to acquiesce to those promoting FUD, have considered, recommended, and brought forward poorly designed rules. See the NY moratorium on PoW mining using fossil fuels just passed into law. This is more than a parochial issue for the Bitcoin community. Bitcoin mining provides an unprecedented opportunity for wider society. It's the basis for an alternative to a broken economic system and the means with which to incentivise and support the energy transition at scale. It is the industry to help the US navigate a host of strategic problems. Bitcoin mining is, fundamentally, a national security issue. Its protection should be our primary focus.

In this week's Bitcoin Bottom Line episode, Co-hosts Steven McClurg and C.J. Wilson are joined by guest Nick Hansen, CEO of Luxor, and Valkyrie's Head of Research Josh Olszewicz. Luxor is one of the top 10 bitcoin mining pools in the world. They have a Hash Rate Index, and through that they are aiming to provide great data about the mining ecosystem. In addition, they have an ASIC Index, and are just about to launch Energy Markets which tracks the value of energy over time, which they view as very integral to bitcoin mining. In addition to a suite of other products. Wilson says, “Hash rate is worldwide, machines are getting better every couple of years, and now there are new innovations because people like Luxor are getting involved with the firmware side” He goes on to ask, “How do you see growth in bitcoin mining in the next couple of years? Hansen explains that he doesn't see the consistent “all time highs” stopping, but the only thing that could stop that trend is international regulation and how the new hash rates in texas manages during the summer. The conversation naturally leads to one on energy, and Hansen explains how “Bitcoin mining is just an energy problem at the end of the day.” The group discusses immersion cooling on massive scales, some over 100 megawatts. For reference, Hansen explains that a single megawatt is probably one's entire neighborhood. Hansen goes on to explain, “Whether we like it as bitcoiners or not, ESG is here to stay. If you can lean into that in effective ways, you're going to make it way easier for yourself going forward to raise capital and tell the right story to the market. People who are leaning into ESG are going to be really effective about continuing to be on the forefront of this industry.” The group discusses sustainable energy, and Hansen defines sustainable as “lasting one thousand generations through solar, wind, and hydro”. He continues, “This brings us to a new energy future where energy is effectively free. The best part about bitcoin is that it incentivizes that and provides you the economic value to learn how to do those things.” Wilson explains how we as consumers struggle with sustainability since we love packaging. “The difference between bitcoin and many other items is that Bitcoin requires no packaging at all. Effectively, we've taken old shipping containers, a torch, and some chords and we've turned them into these multi-million dollar industries.” They go on to discuss firmware, hash rate hedging, out-of-the-box carbon capture techniques, and more. That is the crushing feeling of fear of missing out, or FOMO as it is more commonly know, and the feeling many are probably having at this very moment due to Bitcoin. In today's episode, we will explore how this FOMO, alongside other psychological factors, influences the price of Bitcoin. You will learn, what are the biological mechanisms that happen when we are having FOMO, how the news influences public opinion of Bitcoin, and the different types of Bitcoin investors, and what separates them psychologically. When I played tennis in high school, my coach was a guy named Ed Deitch. Ed was a new teacher and had never coached any sport before. And he didn't play tennis. What I loved about Ed was that he didn't have an ego. He spent as much time off the court learning not only tennis but also how to coach as he did on the court leading his players. In the summer between my junior and senior years, Ed introduced me to another coach who successfully helped a number of USTA regional and national players. Ed drove an hour from Virginia to pick me up in Maryland and take me to my lesson. Then we would grab a bite to eat and debrief. He'd drop me off at home before driving an hour back home to Virginia. Ed was committed to whatever success he could create for each of his players first, rather than for himself. That, I think is what made him a great coach. Years later I was introduced to today's guest NICK HANSEN. Nick coaches real estate agents all over the country to higher levels of professional and personal success. But he started his career coaching swimmers and was a hair from becoming the U.S. Olympic Swim coach. To hear Nick talk about it, there is great art to coaching. Whether it's swimmers, baseball players or real estate agents, the ability to see each individual's strengths an weaknesses and meet them where they are rather than adhering to some coaching dogma is what contributed to the success, however defined, of the coaching client.It's also the coach's job, Nick says, to hold his mentee accountable and this is something he is very good at. To know when they are not "on board" with the program, not giving their best efforts. While every person is different, there are fundamental things every athlete -- or Realtor®--needs to put them into position for success. Nick calls it winning the day. The harder you focus on those fundamentals, the more time you spend in the pool, and the more intensely you are committed to doing what he calls the boring work, the more likely you'll be to touch the wall first. We explore Nick's experience as a national class swimmer at Iowa state and then later coaching stints at the University of Arizona and then at Wisconsin. His success placing several swimmers on the U.S. National team led to him coaching the U.S. team at the world championships in Spain and to being that close to becoming the U.S. Olympic swim coach.Nick is a friend and in full disclosure has been my coach in real estate. Being good at paid search is using hyper relevant ad copy that reads the same as the keywords being used. A way to prioritize keywords you are bidding on is to analyze the areas in which people are buying the most and then also the specific product features that are selling the most. Then group your keywords under bigger themes that align with the areas and features that are generating the most sales. Rather than looking at attribution as a certain number that is being generated from your marketing efforts, have the attribution inform you more on what marketing campaigns you should keep doing and which ones are not working. Produce produce Defeating distractions This message is about true Christian “work”. It comes from some of the messages we heard recently. Not all works are spiritual. But as Christians we need to have spiritual activity, and spiritual growth, and spiritual fruit. Recently we have been hearing about the normal challenges that believers face. We live in a fallen world and there is natural opposition to living a spiritual, fruitful life. A few weeks ago John spoke on Mark 4 18 Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; 19 but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. 20 Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.” The thorns are difficulties, the worries of life. The bird is satan (not this specific bird), spiritual forces of darkness that oppress and enslave people, every day. I notice in that parable that there are many ways for a heart to be unfruitful, but only one way for the heart to bear fruit. That one way is to receive God’s word with honesty and sincerity. It’s not easy to maintain that kind of heart in 2019. There are many distractions, temptations, and enemies. And some things are totally necessary and legitimate, but difficult to strike the right balance. Like, if you’re Canadian you pretty much have to cheer for a hockey team, or at least pretend to enjoy it. Go Blues, Go Mooseheads! It’s just part of life here. But for some people, that can be thorns and weeds. Or like smartphones… not evil to own an iphone. Or an android phone. These are so useful, most of us rely on them a lot. In general having nice stuff isn’t wrong by itself. But it can be thorns and weeds. If your life’s passion is stylish clothes, you have a problem. Or, having a good career is important. Very important. But… money can be a problem, and a career can easily be an idol because it has such a big impact on life. Proverbs 15:16 Better to have little with fear of the Lord, than to have great treasure and inner turmoil. Proverbs 16:8 Better a little with righteousness than great gain with injustice. Psalm 37:16 Better is the little of the righteous than the abundance of many wicked. 4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. We need to take hold of that deep spiritual peace by prayer. 1 Corinthians 3:12-15 John 15 Section 1: Abide v.1-11 In the person of Christ In the Word In God’s love Section 2: Serve one another V.12-17 Acts of service are acts of love Section 3: Be separate from the World v.18 – 27 Don’t be surprised to find opposition This chapter Jesus tells us how to live as His followers and as His disciples. Here you can see the fruit on the small vine that draws life from the big vine. Getting the fruit plants to optimally produce fruit requires a lot of skill and knowledge I’m sure there are entire books devoted to the pruning of fruit bearing vines and trees. What kind of spiritual fruit is there? Worship. True worship. Not just the performance of music, not music done poorly either. Worship can be done in silence… Worship can be in prayer The key word is ‘abide’ meaning to obey, follow, remain in, or continue in Jesus said “I am the way…” (14:6) The branch has no life on its own (v. 5) Spiritual life is more than works To follow in Jesus’ way is not automatic There are ‘birds’ and ‘thorns’ Key element: the word (v.3&7) Abiding in Christ is staying spiritually connected to Christ.

Micah 6 God speaks to a disobedient people 1. In the courtroom of God God’s accusation against Israel The witness of creation God calls the mountains and hills to be witness in this conversation resembling a legal case. The mountains and hills were present (Mount Sinai) when God made His covenant with Israel in Exodus 20. Think about the timelessness and strength of the mountains, and of the covenant. Psalm 19:1-4 speaks of the ‘silent witness’ of creation. Answer Me. v. 3 “My people, what have I done to you, And how have I wearied you? Answer Me. God Blessed Israel Abundantly Parting the Red Sea & the Jordan River Providing for their physical needs Defending them from other kings and nations Raising up and choosing leaders … So ‘Why are you treating me this way?’ False obedience Verses 6 & 7 have a new voice representing Israel. The questions reveal that the heart is far from God. They treat God as if more religion, more works, and more material sacrifice will solve the problem of sin. True obedience is only possible with true repentance from sin. Psalm 24:1-4 speaks of God’s sovereignty and holiness He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justice, to love kindness [mercy], And to walk humbly with your God?Three areas of life Three areas of life Do Justly External & visible. Obey the law. Be upright in your actions. Don’t lie, cheat, steal, murder, etc. 1 Peter 1:16 Love Mercy/Kindness External & internal. Love is an intentional and active choice. The concequences of Sin God’s judgement is here now and also coming soon The big problem: greed Crooked scales, deceptive weights… God’s people are supposed to use their wealth to take care of the poor. Instead the rich were oppressing (violence, v. 12) the poor. Two judgements Present v. 13-15 God takes away prosperity and the ability to enjoy life. Future v. 16 God gives Judah over to Babylon. Micah’s prophecy was well before the event. 750-686 B.C. Micah, Isaiah, Hosea, Jotham, Ahaz, Hezekiah 721 B.C. Samaria is conquered by the Assyrians 597-586 B.C. The Babylonians take over (4:10) Is prophecy relevant for today? Courtroom God is a holy judge over all mankind. If He spoke to the Church, what would He say? ‘How have I wearied you…’? Covenant The blood and witness of Christ greater than the blood of bulls and the witness of mountains/foundations. Calling As Christians we know the greatest calling on our lives is for the gospel and the work of Christ. Micah 6:8 Carelessness Spiritual backsliding usually doesn’t come from a single decision or all at once. Covetousness One of the most dangerous attitudes out there… be on guard against greed! Corruption Like rust on a car… once it’s in there, it’s hard to fix. It’s easier to prevent it. Returning from the path of sin is much harder than avoiding it.

Ecclesiastes 1:4-18 Everything is meaningless Life is an endless cycle (4-7) Solomon points to 4 timeless facts to back up his claim Earth (v4) Sun (v5) Wind (v6) Sea (v7) The voice of ‘science’ Reminds me of “Uniformitarianism” Became popular in 1830 by Lyell (Geology) and Darwin (Biology) What is the practical application of this book for us today? Is Ecclesiastes nothing but an interesting exhibit in a religious museum, or does it have a message for people in the Space Age? Its message is for today. After all, the society which Solomon investigated a millennium before the birth of Christ was not too different from our world today. Solomon saw injustice to the poor (4:1-3), crooked politics (5:8), incompetent leaders (10:6-7), guilty people allowed to commit more crime (8:11), materialism (5:10), and a desire for “the good old days” (7:10). It sounds up-to-date, doesn’t it?” Page 480, The Bible Exposition Commentary, Warren W. Wiersbe “Nothing is changed” Is life really an endless cycle? Outside of God’s word, we are forced to rely on ourselves: Our senses Our ability to reason Our depravity 2 Peter 3:3-7, 10 Nothing really changes! Life is a heavy burden (8-11)Solomon points out a difficult struggle in the heart of man We all want something new (v8) The world can’t provide anything new (v9) We often end up being duped (v10-11) The voice of history Sin is not new. Nothing is new. Is life really a heavy burden? Outside of God’s word, life is is a burden instead of a joy. This hinges upon the cyclical nature of life given in v4-7 Matthew 11:25-30 Eph. 1:10-14 Phil. 1:6 Salvation is not in wisdom (12-18) Can wisdom help us? Perhaps verse 12 would be a good place to begin chapter 2 It is the start of a new thought Solomon makes 3 statements that show our powerlessness Life is of God, a complex gift (13-14) Not everything has a solution (v15) Salvation is not in wisdom or works (v16-18) The voice of philosophy Salvation is in Christ alone Outside of Christ, there is no salvation. Don’t be foolish and repeat Solomon’s “madness and folly” Repent of sin and turn to Christ With Christ there is abundant life, newness of life, meaningful work that counts in eternity, and a peace the surpasses understanding. To live is ____ and to die is _____.
