In this episode, Dr. Schmidt sits down with Adamo Notarantonio, DDS, FICOI, FAACD, a highly regarded cosmetic dentist, to explore the often-overlooked power of composite in aesthetic dentistry. While porcelain options often take center stage in smile makeovers, Dr. Notarantonio shares why mastering composite artistry is not only essential for delivering beautiful results—but also for becoming a true craftsman in cosmetic dentistry. From repairing fractured teeth on teenagers to fine-tuning provisionals, he explains how composite skills translate into superior patient outcomes and provides a deeper understanding of smile design. (Dr. Notarantion will be a speaker at AGD2025, July 9-12.) They also dive into the mindset shift required to build a fulfilling aesthetic practice—from ways to build skill and reputation to learning how to communicate treatment possibilities with patients without overwhelming them. This conversation offers practical insight, real-world advice, and inspiration for dentists at every stage of their journey. Dr. Notarantonio graduated from the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine (2002), where he received honors in removable and fixed prosthodontics. He is accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and received his Fellowship in the AACD in 2018. He is the current President of the AACD, Credential Examiner and Fellowship Chairman. Dr. Notarantio is a graduate and faculty of the Kois Center. He has received his fellowship in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. He has been published in multiple dental journals and lectures nationally and internationally on such topics as CAD/CAM dentistry, implant dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, composite dentistry, and dental photography. Tune in to hear how investing in your skills can transform both your dentistry and your career.

This week we are joined by an accomplished dentist and father of Teen Mom star Chelsea Houska, Dr. Randy ‘PapaRandilicious’ Houska! Stay tuned for his extra special and heart-rending Tooth or Dare at the end of the episode. Big thanks to our sponsors at Dentsply Sirona for this amazing episode and encouraging Irene to get a ProphyJet, she is absolutely obsessed and can not go without using it on nearly every patient. If you want your perio life to be changed, DM Irene so she can rant a bit about how much love she has for this piece of equipment! A self-described Farm Boy, Randy Houska never had dreams of being a dentist. Growing up in the small town of Mitchell, South Dakota (home of the world’s only corn palace!), Dr. Houska knew he wanted to leave farm life behind and found his way into dental school at the University of Nebraska. Randy tells the saga of Chelsea’s pregnancy at 16 and her subsequent journey into filming MTV’s “16 and Pregnant” and then “Teen Mom.” emotional growth that came from the show. Dr. Houska shares information about his work with Implant Pathway and The New Horizon Dental Clinic in Tempe, Arizona where low-income families can receive high-quality healthcare at the lowest possible cost and new dentists can practice dental surgery. As an MTV star, a father, and a widely experienced dentist, Randy Houska and answers our burning questions: Is Teen Mom scripted? What advice would you give to a teenage mom? As a dentist, how do you approach a patient you suspect might be experiencing abuse at home? Do dads roll into your DM's? Who's your favourite Canadian?  “You’ve gotta love yourself before you go lookin’ for another man” -Randy Houska   Bio: Dr. Randy Houska was raised in Mitchell, SD on a small farm and received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology at the University of South Dakota. As a dentist, I have the unique opportunity to truly impact people's lives. When I'm relieving discomfort, straightening teeth and restoring function, or providing a beautiful and confident smile, I'm helping my patients look and feel better. I am honored that patients come to me and trust me with their oral health. The lifelong friendships we build and strengthen during their visits are immensely rewarding. I love our conversations and what each person chooses to share with me. Not only does this create a bond, but it gives me insight into the best way to approach their oral healthcare needs. I'm proud to be a fifth-generation dentist and to be joining my father in our family practice. Growing up in a dental family, seeing the fulfillment my father and grandfather found in their days, and witnessing the friendships they made with their patients; all these made dentistry the logical path. I have no doubt I made the right decision. My formal schooling provided a great foundational knowledge with regard to dentistry. However, oral healthcare is a constantly changing discipline. With developments in techniques and technology, as well as new materials, it's essential I remain current on the changes. By participating in multiple continuing education courses and attending meetings and lectures through the American Dental Association, I stay up to date with the developments. I'm particularly excited by my continuing education in Six Month Smiles®, an accelerated, cosmetic braces solution that creates incredible smiles. I also completed Pinhole Rejuvenation with Dr. John Chao, and I am a graduate of Alabama Implant Education. In addition, I am a member of the American Dental Association, the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation, and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Most recently I have spent quite a bit of time furthering my education with implants. I am currently a member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.  I grew up in and have now returned to Brentwood, TN, following my four years in Memphis for dental school. It's exciting to be home again, serving my friends and neighbors. I married my amazing, beautiful, Godly wife Caroline in 2013. We met in our senior year at the University of Tennessee in social dance class. After several years of long-distance romance while I was in dental school, we were married on Kiawah Island in her home state of South Carolina. Caroline is extremely talented, having graduated in the top of her class at UT's business school. Right now it's just the two of us at home, but you never know what the future holds! When we're not working, you'll often find Caroline and me walking at Radnor Lake or cooking an amazing meal. On weekends, we're either wake boarding and waterskiing with friends and family or heading to Knoxville to cheer on the Volunteers! Personally, I'm committed to my relationship to Jesus Christ and thankful for all I have been given through him. He is the rock in my life, my family, and my hobbies."

Howard and Danny discuss everything implantology, including whether or not you need a surgical guide.   Dr. Daniel Domingue was born and raised in Lafayette, LA. He graduated from St. Thomas More in 1999 and went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and his DDS degree from the LSU School of Dentistry in New Orleans.   While spending three years in advanced training at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in New York City, he served as Chief Resident of the Dental and Oral Surgery Department. His training included one year in Advanced General Dentistry and two years in Dental Implantology.    During these years, he was awarded the Certificate of Achievement from the American Academy of Implant Dentistry for outstanding leadership in Implant Dentistry, a Fellowship from the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, and an Associate Fellowship of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. Dr. Domingue was also awarded Diplomate from the American Board of Oral Implantology, the highest award possible for a general dentist practicing implantology. He was also recognized as the youngest recipient of this award in the entire world.   Dr. Domingue was later given a Mastership and Diplomate award from the International Congress of Oral Implantology for his outstanding work in Implant Dentistry. Dr. Domingue is a member of the American Dental Association as well as the Acadiana District Dental Association. He is also an active member of the American Academy of General Dentistry.   After completing his residency program, Dr. Domingue married the love of his life, Megan, in Denver, CO. They decided to move back to Louisiana to settle down, practice dentistry, and raise their family. On August 2nd, 2012, he and Megan were blessed with their first-born baby girl, Elle Ann Domingue.   After practicing for three years in Lake Charles, Dr. Domingue accepted an offer from his uncle, Dr. Smith, to become a partner in his practice. This proved to be a great opportunity for he and his family to move back home as well as to join his uncle’s practice and carry on a tradition established more than 30 years ago.     Dr. Domingue and his wife are excited to be back in Lafayette with family, friends, food, and the rich culture.   http://www.acadianadentistry.com
