In this episode, Austin chats with Yannik Schrade (Arcium) about the current state of zero knowledge technology. The conversation delves into various aspects of zero knowledge proofs, secure multi-party computation (MPC), and fully homomorphic encryption (FHE). Yannick explains the historical development of these technologies, their applications, and how they differentiate from traditional encryption methods. The discussion also covers challenges in the field, such as computation complexity and the need for hardware acceleration. Yannick introduces Arcium's approach to confidential computing, emphasizing developer accessibility and practical implementation in DeFi and DePIN. The conversation also explores the potential future of these technologies, including the integration of AI and the vision of a global supercomputer for confidential computations.DISCLAIMER The content herein is provided for educational, informational, and entertainment purposes only, and does not constitute an offer to sell or a solicitation of an offer to buy any securities, options, futures, or other derivatives related to securities in any jurisdiction, nor should not be relied upon as advice to buy, sell or hold any of the foregoing. Eric is back a week later to rejoin the conversation on his journey in knives. On the last episode, we left off with Eric recounting his Canal Street Cutlery days and so that's where we pick back up. We get to hear Eric's perspective on the closing of Canal Street, some personal stories, and Mike tries to get to the bottom of the Schrade factory conspiracy. We (Mike) did get a little excited about shop talk, so we dive into some of the particulars of making knives. Neal does his best to get Eric to agree to do a set aside of "Maker's Select" knives - we'll have to see if that happens! Join Alex Tapscott and Andrew Young as they decode the world of Web3 and DeFi with special guest Yannik Schrade, CEO and Co-Founder of Arcium. Listen in as they discuss what Arcium is building and its importance for public blockchain networks, how it compares to traditional L1s, its relationship to zero-knowledge proofs, the new use cases it unlocks for decentralized AI, how it works from a technical perspective, value capture within the decentralized infrastructure stack, enabling specialized uses of DePIN, and more.
You guys are gonna love this episode. Eric joins us from upstate New York and talks about how he got into knives and eventually found himself at Canal Street Cutlery. We do our best to keep a chronological order to things, but our excitement got the best of us! One thing to note is that Eric may be the last in a line extending clear back to early Sheffield cutlers. From those famous and brave guys who got caught up in the Chartist Movement in England, to Matteawan, to New York Knife Co, to Walden Knife Co, to Schrade, to Canal Street, and perhaps the last man standing - Eric Albers. Charlie's with us at the close of summer. As he starts his 80th year he joins us to talk about his new knife called the City Stock Knife. Of course Charlie couldn't help but meander into what knives he's picked up over the summer. Lots of pocket knife history "tid-bits" were thrown out in this episode by Neal and Charlie for us to gobble up!Neal even makes a bold statement on the "perfect" pocket knife and Mike tries to claim that the old Schrade factory sat on a toxic dump site. You guys listen and decide! One note on this episode - Neal came out strongly against GEC's "faux pas" of calling a knife with a smaller bolster a "Barlow." While we all agree with Neal, we don't endorse him in fear of Bill canceling our podcast! Thanks to all our listeners!Support the showIf you enjoyed the episode, be sure to give us some of those stars in your podcast app!Mike Moran: @moranknives and on the web: moranknives.comCheck out Neal's latest latest book on J.A. In this day and age, privacy and confidentiality are more important than ever. Advancements in the cryptographic research of zero knowledge proofs (ZKPs), fully homomorphic encryption (FHE) and multi-party computation (MPC) paved the way for computational integrity and confidential computing. While FHE allows for computation to be performed on encrypted data without the need for prior decryption, it is MPC that enables compliance with regulations (e.g. AML). Arcium aims to build a global super computer for parallelised confidential computing, powered by custom MXEs (multi-party computation execution environments).Topics covered in this episode:Yannik's backgroundConfidentiality & decentralised complianceConfidential computingTEEs (trusted execution environments) & side-channel attacksZKP vs. MPC vs. FHEArcium's global super computer architectureHow Arcium differentiates itself from other privacy protocolsUse casesCensorship risksEcosystem developmentEpisode links:Yannik Schrade on TwitterArcium on TwitterSponsors:Gnosis: Gnosis builds decentralized infrastructure for the Ethereum ecosystem, since 2015. You guys just had to suspect that we would eventually have our friend Bill on the show. Bill is the great-grandson of George Schrade, one of the finest American knife inventors that there ever was. Bill carries on the knife-making legacy, and continues to make one of the switchblades that George invented. We had a nice chat with Bill on what he's up to today and we even hear some great stories from his childhood. During the show we referenced both Bill's website and a video he was featured in by the current iteration of Schrade.Support the Show.If you enjoyed the episode, be sure to give us some of those stars in your podcast app!Mike Moran: @moranknives and on the web: moranknives.comCheck out Neal's latest latest book on J.A. Richie is joined by Anjem Choudary and Kevin Barrett.Social affairs adviser Dame Sara Khan has criticised the government for failing to intervene after protesters caused Cineworld to cancel all UK screenings of a film about the Prophet Mohammed's daughter. Cineworld said it had pulled The Lady of Heaven “to ensure the safety of our staff and customers”. More than 120,000 people signed a petition opposing its screening, while the Bolton Council of Mosques called the film “blasphemous”. To discuss this, Richie is joined by the Islamic scholar and former solicitor Anjem Choudary. Robert F. Kennedy's friend Paul Schrade wants US authorities to reopen the investigation into his assassination. Schrade was injured on the night that Sirhan Sirhan allegedly murdered the Presidential candidate. Academic, writer and broadcaster Kevin Barrett joins Richie to discuss this and to share his own theory as to who killed RFK and why. https://substack.com/profile/18936398-kevin-barrett
In June 1968, US presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy was assassinated shortly after addressing his supporters at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. It was less than five years after his older brother, President John F Kennedy, had also been assassinated. Sirhan Sirhan was convicted of the crime, but many - including Kennedy's friend Paul Schrade - suspect another gunman was involved. Schrade was shot himself that night and he told Rebecca Kesby about why he's campaigning for the case to be reopened. Known for his community organizing, civil rights activist Paul Schrade successfully helped lead the anti-war movement and worked closely with the farmworkers union. He served as an aide in Sen. Robert F. Kennedy's bid for the presidential nomination, joining Kennedy on the campaign trail and introducing him to the many workers unions on the West Coast. As one of the last living witnesses to Kennedy's assassination in 1968, Schrade says it not only changed his life forever, but it also changed the course of American history. Now in his 90s, Schrade is still dedicated to honoring Kennedy's legacy, securing the funding to build the Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools in Koreatown, where the Ambassador Hotel once stood.

Sirhan Sirhan Schrade Dusek The Donald Jeffries Show 9-1-2021 Paul Schrade and Laurie Dusek Sirhan Sirhan Schrade Dusek Paul Schrade: Paul Schrade was president of United Auto Workers Local 887 during the strike of 16,000 workers in 1953. Major gains in wages and benefits were won for the first time for all aerospace workers paid far less than autoworkers in the same union. He then served four years as United Auto Workers President Walter Reuther's administrative assistant in Detroit. He was elected UAW's Western states director in the 1960s, and in 1965 he joined with Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta in the farmworkers struggle. He helped arrange for Robert Kennedy's two visits to Delano to support the farmworkers. He initiated the formation of the Watts Labor Community Action Committee (WLCAC) and the East Los Angeles Community Union (TELACU in 1965. He marched with Dr. Martin Luther King in Selma and Los Angeles and with Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta. He joined the anti-war movement and the UAW provided draft counseling for union members and their sons. In 1975, as one of the shooting victims, he filed lawsuits with a team of lawyers and Kennedy supporters to re-open the investigation of the fatal shooting of Robert Kennedy in the Ambassador Hotel. They confirmed that a second gunman was involved. At 96, Schrade is actually a year older than RFK would be if he were still alive. He maintains an active interest in the case. Laurie Dusek: Laurie Dusek was Sirhan Sirhan's attorney for thirteen years. Like Paul Schrade, she has worked with Kennedy family members and remains committed to Sirhan's release. Lowenstein was critical of the official account of the June 6, 1968, assassination of Senator Robert F. Kennedy. Lowenstein made a one-hour appearance on the PBS television show Firing Line in 1975, where he was interviewed by William F. Buckley Jr., in which he stated that he did not believe that Sirhan Sirhan alone had shot Kennedy, Schrade and the four others who were injured in the shooting are often overlooked players in the assassination that killed Kennedy at the age of 42 amid his ascendant presidential campaign. When Schrade gained consciousness at a nearby hospital, a United Automobile Workers leader came to his bedside and told him the news: Kennedy was dead. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/art-mcdermott/support

Kelli Schrade is an institutional consultant and director at Graystone Consulting, a Morgan Stanley company, and is based in Chicago. She has had a long career in manager selection and investment consulting and is a self-described “market junkie”, who is committed to making change through her work with clients and diverse investment managers, among other causes. She is a Board Member at the Lincoln Park Zoo, Deborah's Place and involved in numerous industry bodies. Our conversation goes back to Kelli's undergraduate degree in English, and how she transitioned from that to a role in manager selection. We discuss the benefits of flat corporate structures, and how they enable junior employees to thrive, and the work she is doing to elevate and amplify minority-run firms and to enable her clients to fulfill their missions. When we turn to the issue of diversity, Kelli is frank about the experience of other senior women who have dropped out of the industry, and it is apt at this stage (mid-pandemic) to mention the recent McKinsey report (https://www.mckinsey.com/featured-insights/diversity-and-inclusion/women-in-the-workplace) which noted that one in three professional women were considering downshifting their career due to the Covid-19 disruptions and additional pressures, including the "double shift" of childcare.

Paul Schrade stood at Robert F. Kennedy’s side at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, 51 years ago last week. As they entered the kitchen, Schrade was shot along with the presidential candidate. Schrade recovered from his injuries. Now 94 years old, his memories of that tragic night are still vivid. He shared his recollections of Kennedy and the candidate's time in the Central Valley, and of Schrade's own work for the United Auto Workers in California.

Many people doubt the official story of what happened when Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated in the kitchen of the Los Angeles's Ambassador Hotel exactly 50 years ago. Their doubts are fuelled by painstaking research, solid reporting, and even cutting-edge science. But nothing compares to talking with people who were there when Kennedy was struck down. Paul Schrade, a long-time friend and political ally of Kennedy's, was shot in the head that night, but he recovered from his wounds. Two years ago, when Schrade was 91, WhoWhatWhy's Jeff Schechtman spoke to him about Kennedy, the assassination, and about his theory of the case. This 48-minute conversation offers indispensable insights into the life and legacy of Bobby Kennedy, his murder, and how that tragedy changed history.
Originally released on May 23, 2016. Today's episode is all about gadgets people carry in their pockets (or in bags), though it mostly focuses on pocketknives. Those of who who've watched Angus Macgyver at work know he can do pretty much anything with a Swiss Army knife and a paperclip, so these things are handy to have. Two of the covers of the Great Brain books written by John D. Fitzgerald. There are 5 others (plus one published from the author's notes after his death). I do believe these books made me interested in carrying a pocketknife when I read them as a child, though I probably would have shredded my hands with one. My folks wisely had me wait a few years. My father eventually bought me one like this at a local hardware store: A Schrade Old Timer Middleman stockman-style pocketknife. The box had a little manual that distinctly read "never throw your knife!" (whoops) The one I had was made with high carbon steel (which is softer than stainless steel- meaning it can be sharpened to a finer edge - but prone to rusting if not kept oiled/dry). The blades looked darker than those in this picture if I remember right. I had it through most of adolescence until it eventually slipped out of my pocket somewhere while in college, going to that mysterious place where lost pens, umbrellas, and socks go. Schrade as a company unfortunately went out of business in the 2000s. Taylor Knives took over this particular line and continues to manufacture them, through that has been outsourced to China now. Logan from The Thirteenth Hour loses his knife, too. In fact, he loses all his gear in the beginning of the quest, though he finds some new pocket swag in the course of this travels, including a new knife that he muses might be good for throwing. That's written about elsewhere, but I eventually found some knives made by the same company that wouldn't get lost so easily - the Schrade Cliphanger line, which has a little detachable carabiner that clips to your pocket but doesn't interefere with the rest of the knife. They only have one blade, which was stainless steel, but at least that means less maintenance. Plus, the blade locks in place. I've had a number over the years. Unfortunately, they're not so easy to find these days, either, but I recently found an older one made in the USA on eBay. It needed some work, but after some minor fixes and resharpening, it was good to go. Sharpening the blade took a fair amount of work since one edge came heavily beveled, but I eventually got it sharp enough. Not going to use it to shave anytime soon, but good enough to cut paper and such.
