Joe is not drunk, but his creepy guitar-playing suggests it. Smith refers to this Vic Berger video about Ted Cruz, and this Vic Berger video about Jon Voight. Smith also talks about this part of a Vsauce video featuring the voice of presidential assassin JWB. Definitely JWB. Then there's this scene from Idiocracy (2006). There's also this short of Tyson walking away from an interview with his buns, plus MJ doing the first Man on the MW. Joe refers to this guitar for JP. There was no easily available YT video of an LDS hymn on a Chapman Stick, but there was a wonderful consolation prize: this. Joe refers back to this chart/scene from Idiocracy. Joe refers back to this other Radiohead song which was recorded while Thom sang his vocals in reverse or something. TBH, he mistook it for this one, which would also be super cool in reverse too. Joe talks about the music video for REM's Pop Song ‘89 which features people sans tops. Here's the B&B version. Find your own version, if ya nasty. Joe makes everyone take an axolotl break. Then Joe refers back to this episode of The Dollop about an early LDS branch. The guys love Pete Holmes and Joe tells Smith about the BCPE film. Send us a textWhat if you could step into the mind of David Chase and uncover the origins of The Sopranos? Join us on the Oh Brother Podcast as we dissect the new documentary "Wise Guy: David Chase and the Sopranos," directed by Alex Gibney and now streaming on Max. We explore how this two-part series, originally envisioned as a feature film, captures Chase's journey and the show's creation. You'll discover how the documentary's unique set design mirrors Dr. Melfi's office and how "The Sopranos" found renewed life during the COVID-19 quarantine, largely thanks to the "Talking Sopranos" podcast by Michael Imperioli and Steve Schirripa. We then shift gears to discuss James Gandolfini's legacy, particularly through the lens of the Coen Brothers' film "The Man Who Wasn't There." Mistakes and corrections aside, we dive into Gandolfini's illustrious career and the fascinating casting choices that could have altered "The Sopranos" as we know it. Hear about Steve Van Zandt's near-casting as Tony Soprano, Lorraine Bracco's pivotal decision to play Dr. Melfi, and the technological hurdles faced after Nancy Marchand's untimely passing. The discussion also highlights the immense pressure Chase faced to maintain the show's success, fostering a tight-knit, trusting environment with his creative team. Finally, we delve into the complexity of Carmela Soprano and examine the tragic death of James Gandolfini. We reflect on the emotional weight of Gandolfini's role, his personal struggles, and the impact of his untimely passing on both the cast and the show. The documentary's innovative style is also a topic of interest, mirroring Tony Soprano's iconic drive while offering insights into David Chase's influences from classic filmmakers. We ponder the controversial ending of "The Sopranos" and speculate on what might have been if Gandolfini were still with us. He and Donny talk about the magic of the Sopranos, behind-the-scenes stories, and Steve's take on the finale. It is the final review of the year, and it seems only feels fitting for Zac and Liam to discuss what was one of their most anticipated movies, Sopranos prequel The Many Saints Of Newark. There were plenty of reasons to look forward to the film. For the first time in 15 years there is finally new content based on the show. It comes to us from The Sopranos' creator David Chase. We get to witness the long talked about tale of Dickie Moltisanti, and the role he played in the upbringing of legendary mob boss Tony Soprano. And to top it all off, Michael Gandolfi gets the opportunity to play the same role which made his dad a superstar, as he brings a younger Tony to life. But with all of that initial optimism out of the way, did the final product have the makings of a Varsity athlete? Grab some Gabagool, and take a listen.

This week Michael and Steve welcome Dania Ramirez (Blanca Selgado) to the podcast. Dania has appeared in Heroes, Entourage, Justice League, Sweet Tooth as well as 5 episodes of the Sopranos. Originally her manager passed on the Sopranos audition but Dania thought he was crazy. It was always one of her favorite shows. Dania was born in the Dominican Republic and never thought she would end up with such a successful career in show business. She talks about how she got her start, and what her family thought about her pursuing a career as an actress. She was really nervous her first day on the Sopranos set and it was James Gandolfini who calmed her down and told her to just relax. Dania has definitely had a very successful acting career but is also a busy entrepreneur involved in a number of projects from making wine to legal cannabis. Currently she is starring in her latest hit Sweet Tooth on Netflix. After Dania's interview Michael and Steve get into this week's episode. It's called “Members Only” and Steve kicks things off by showing some pics of him and Frank Sinatra who is wearing a Members Only jacket…This is the beginning of season six and this episode does not disappoint. It's one of the best in the series with a lot to understand. Michael really focuses on the nuances in this one. Talking Sopranos Episode #67 “Members Only” S6-Ep1. This week on Talking Sopranos Michael Imperioli and Steve Schirripa finish off season five with special guest Toni Kalem (Angie Bonpensiero). During the interview Michael and Steve are really surprised to find out that Toni was a finalist to play the role of Carmela! She was the one who went to LA for the screen test with Jim and the folks from HBO. Toni also talks about her early days as an actress in NYC. How she had to deal with the old casting couch mentality and how her bosses literally chased her around the desk. Luckily she was able to make the right connections and it was her talent that rose above. David Chase saw Toni in a film called The Wanderers and asked her to audition for the Sopranos. She didn't get the role of Carmela but did land the part of Angie Bonpensiero, and wrote one episode herself. In the early days HBO wouldn't fly her from LA so she lived with her parents while acting in one of the biggest TV shows in history. Then Michael and Steve get another letter from A S. This time he really rips into Michael, and Steve has had it!. This may be the end of AS…After that Michael and Steve finish off season 5. This is another incredible episode and one that David Chase originally thought could be the series finale. Don't miss Talking Sopranos #66 S5-Ep13 “All Due Respect”. It's another fantastic episode with two amazing guests. First up, the legendary Peter Bogdanovich talks about how he started out as an actor in NYC and what gave him the bug to start directing. He shares stories about his friendship with Orson Wells, how he cast Tatum O'Neil in the Last Picture Show and of course how he ended up on the Sopranos. Peter became friends with David Chase who asked him to play the role of Melfi's psychiatrist. He also directed Michael and Steve in Sentimental Education S5-Ep6 of the Sopranos. Next Marianne Leone joins the podcast. Michael worked with Marianne on Goodfellas and the two remained friends ever since. She is a lot of fun and shares some great stories about her days on the Sopranos and how Federico Castelluccio restored a painting of her grandparents. Then Michael and Steve get into one of the most surprising and dramatic episodes of the entire series. Michael and Drea both won Emmys for their performances as well as Terry Winter for the screenplay. Tim Van Patten was nominated for directing. This is a great one…Talking Sopranos S5-E12 “Long Term Parking”. This week Michael and Steve welcome Sopranos writer and producer Matt Weiner to the podcast. Matt was an award-winning writer on the Sopranos but also created the incredible TV series Mad Men. He is a fascinating person and in 2011 he was named one of Time Magazine's 100 most influential people in the world. This is a candid and emotional interview where Matt talks about his difficult early days, working with David Chase and Jim's passing. Then Michael and Steve break down this week's episode which Matt wrote. It's a crazy one that definitely needs some explaining. Along the way Steve reads his living obituary which includes an intro to the Steve Motherf**ks the world video. He also busts Michael's chops about where he shops and the fact he has never been to Cosco. Michael also tells a great story about how he and Steve went to Jamaica and tried to get into Hedonism but were denied. Check out Talking Sopranos Ep #64 “The Test Dream” S5-Ep11. It's another exciting double barrel episode with two fantastic guests. First up Richard Portnow talks about his life as an actor and an amateur boxer. He also talks about the days he used to run into Tony “Junior” Sirico in the clubs of New York City. Over the years Richard has worked with some of the biggest names in the business and shares who he likes and who he doesn't. Originally the character of Melvoin was only cast in one episode, but Richard brought so much to the role the writers kept him on as a reoccurring character. Then Suzanne Shepherd joins the podcast. Suzanne played Carmela's mother in the Sopranos, Lorraine Bracco's mother in Goodfellas and Steve's mother in Bluebloods. She was also a finalist to play Livia on the Sopranos but was happy to see Nancy Marchand own that role. After that Michael and Steve get into this week's episode which is all about anger and revenge. Check out Talking Sopranos #63 “Cold Cuts” S5 – EP10. Celebrity Superfan Alec Baldwin joins Michael and Steve this week on Talking Sopranos. Well we’re going to break that rule for Alec, and we’re going to break it again with the Talking Sopranos Superfan Contest! In order to thank our fans for voting for us for the Webbys, Michael and Steve are going to invite a few lucky fans to join them on the podcast. We’ll pick a few lucky fans to join a future episode. https://talkingsopranos.com Then before getting into this week’s episode, Michael and Steve try to rank Sopranos characters by wealth….Tony? Johnny? Who do you think has the most scratch? After that Michael and Steve break down this week’s episode, S5 – Ep9 “Unidentified Black Males”. It all begins with a big THANK YOU to all our fans for voting Talking Sopranos the best podcast in Television and Film at the Webbys! Then Michael and Steve take on one of the best episodes of the entire Sopranos series. They also welcome guests Leslie Rae Bega (Valentina La Paz) and Joe Lisi (Dick Barone). Leslie is a fascinating woman who not only is an incredible actress, but an extremely successful real estate agent and accomplished chef. She tells us the story of her life, her career and how she ended up on the Sopranos. She also talks about how she got the role of Valentina, and what it took for her to give that character real personality. When Leslie was hired she knew there would be some nudity involved but things did get a bit more graphic then she expected. Over all it was an amazing experience and she has many fantastic stories to tell. After that Michael and Steve welcome Joe Lisi to the podcast. Joe tells us how he went from real NYPD captain to TV and film actor. He said he made more money in one day playing a police captain on TV than he did in a whole week as a real captain. He also tells us the real story of a celeb who went to buy coke, signed autographs for the undercover cops and ended up in cuffs. Joe is the real deal. Finally Michael and Steve break down S5 – Ep8 “Marco Polo”. This is one that Michael wrote so he has lots of really interesting inside info. He tells great stories about the script, the production and what went on behind the scenes. It’s another fantastic episode of Talking Sopranos! The one and only Steven Van Zandt joins Michael and Steve this week on Talking Sopranos. Little Steven talks about his early days with Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny and of course the Sopranos. David Chase, the Sopranos creator, saw Steven induct the Rascals into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and asked him to audition for the show. Steven’s answer was “thanks but no thanks”. Eventually he did come around and was actually cast as Tony Soprano. But it was HBO who nixed the whole idea, they wanted someone with more on-screen experience. Steven had already been working on a script about a wise guy named Silvio Dante. David liked it so much he wrote the character into the show. But just when Steven thought he had found his new career, Bruce called and wanted to put the E-Street band back together. Crazy story and a great interview with a man who starred on one of the greatest TV shows in history and plays guitar in one of the greatest rock and roll bands in history. Then it’s Happy Birthday Mr. Tony Soprano as Michael and Steve break down episode #60 “In Camelot” S5-Ep7. Paul was a member of the SUNY Purchase Mafia and talks about his college days with Edie Falco, Hal Hartley and Wesley Snipes. He originally auditioned for the role of Mikey Palmice, but after his audition David Chase asked him to read for Father Phil. Strangely, Paul’s real life dad was a bit of a flawed priest himself so Paul knew exactly how to play that part. Then Jason Minter joins the podcast. Jason started out as the locations manager for the Sopranos but David Chase quickly took him on as his own personal assistant. Jason saw the entire Sopranos operation from the inside out. He knew what was going on before the actors, producers or directors did. When someone on staff leaked secrets about the show, Jason was the one who did some digging to figure out who it was. Turns out the guilty party was making hundreds of thousands of dollars selling story lines to the tabloids. After that Michael and Steve break down this week’s episode. It was directed by Peter Bogdanovich and a big one for both Steve Buscemi and Edie Falco. Check out Talking Sopranos #59 “Sentimental Education” S5 -Ep6. You probably know Steve as Bobby 'Baccala' Baccalieri from the Sopranos, or maybe you know him from his current role on Blue Bloods, but he is so much more than just an actor. Born and raised in a low-income household in Brooklyn, he eventually played collegiate basketball and graduated from Brooklyn College. He headed to Vegas and began working in night clubs where he met a multitude of comics and celebrities and was eventually bitten by the acting bug himself, much later than most. What you'll hear throughout our conversation is the extreme hustle and lack of ego that accompanied Steve's very quick rise to fame on The Sopranos. Even while remaining gainfully employed as an actor, he has always kept a side hustle, producing, pitching and creating shows as well as writing a best-selling books and co-hosting one of the most successful podcasts around, Talking Sopranos. His longtime marriage and successful raising of his daughters still remains his most proud accomplishment. It is not the critic who counts. In this episode, hosts Alan and Walt welcome returning guest, Tim Andrews, host of the podcast Radio Labyrinth and a voice on The Von Haessler Doctrine radio show. Since we've spent time with Tim before, we didn't start at the beginning of his radio career. Instead, we decided to look at the start of his path toward parenthood. At age 50, Tim is about to become a first-time dad! Much of the interview becomes a discussion on parenting. Alan is already an empty-nester and Walt is not far behind. They discuss the difference of the times and caution raising a child only with an iPad. It's great to embrace technology, but we all live in the real world. It is important for all parents to make sure their kids learn to exist there and not just the virtual one. After Tim leaves, Walt begins his movie review in a world of artic sharks. Not surprisingly, it's another bad movie for him, though not as bad as the last few have been. After that, Alan and Walt share a few wacky news items before jumping into the entertainment segment. WATCHING Walt highly recommended the stand-up comedy special on Netflix called, Why Would You Do That? by Sebastian Maniscalco. He said it was really funny and hoped the comedian would tour the area soon. Walt also suggests, This is a Robbery. The Netflix documentary is about the largest art heist in history. Alan continues to give Falcon and the Winter Soldier positive reviews. He also stumbled across a documentary on YouTube called, Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan - Interviews. It is a behind the scenes look at some of the scenes in the film and great interviews with the cast. Alan said he had never seen any of it before and is a must-watch for any classic Trek fans. Tim recommends binging Snowfall on FX. He is also enjoying the animated superhero show on Amazon Prime called, Invincible. Tim did enjoy the Zack Snyder cut of Justice League, saying it was a superior film to the original release. Finally, Tim is also watching the comedy, Ireland, on Amazon Prime. READING Tim is re-reading The Dark Tower series for the hundredth time. He said he and his podcast co-hosts may do a special episode in the future discussing the epic work by Stephen King. Walt is still trying to finish, "Running with the Devil." LISTENING Walt did a shout out to Tim's podcast, Radio Labyrinth. He is also listening to Office Space Minute and discovered Warriors in Their Own Words. Tim loves listening to the podcast, Talking Sopranos. Alan has been on a music kick this past week, listening to the Iron Maiden 2016 release, Book of Souls. He is also listening to a lot of Nightwish and 2002. Finally, he gives a shoutout for the podcast, History of the Marine Corps.

The Pet Show says amóre to Steve Schirippa, the former Sopranos star and podcast host of Talking Sopranos alongside Michael Imperioli. He tells us why Tony and Carmela never had a dog and the pathology behind Tony's love of animals. Plus, we go back to his Las Vegas days and learn the origins of Siegfried and Roy and much, much more.
When you've been in the show business as long as Steve, you'll meet some people. Not too many of them are bad. Except this guy. And this other guy. Oh, and this guy here. Also these other guys, they're all awful. Okay, so maybe show business has a pretty bad track record. You know what doesn't have a bad track record? The Sopranos.
