When the dead start walking the streets of New Orleans, only one man seems to notice something's terribly wrong—and he's just unpacked his last moving box. In a city known for its mysteries, something ancient has awakened… something that doesn't fear bullets, boundaries, or the light of day. From abandoned mausoleums to back-alley bars, whispers grow louder: of shadows with no eyes, of men who shouldn't be breathing, and of a darkness older than the city itself. As tourists vanish and the line between folklore and fact begins to blur, one investigator finds himself drawn into a hidden war between life and death—where faith, folklore, and fear collide.Step into the quarter, if you dare… but know this: in this city, not everything that dies stays buried. You get: heinous mall fashion, a cast of WB/CW soap actors, a Hot Topic-ready soundtrack of all the hottest nu-metal acts, Paris Hilton, and the last gasps of casual misogyny and homophobia in the days before social media. House of Wax is a soulless, artless, remake in the high holy days of the horror movie remake.Dave asks the question: does the culture owe Paris Hilton an apology? Bryan asks the question: Is this actually a remake of the Vincent Price House of Wax? It seems to be a remake of Tourist Trap. Collectively they ask: Is this all Millennials had to look forward to? House of Wax is the worst of all possible outcomes and we're going to tell you all about it.
In this episode of Streams and Nightmares, Dave discusses Bloody Axe Wound, Terrified, Miracle Valley, and Tourist Trap.

What do the Statue of Liberty, Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu, and the Eiffel Tower have in common? They've all become part of the global tourist trap circuit—places that promise unforgettable experiences but often deliver crowds, inflated prices, and a distinctly inauthentic atmosphere.I've traveled to numerous destinations on those viral "must-see before you die" lists, and while these iconic landmarks certainly have their merits, the experience of visiting them doesn't always match our expectations. The good news? There are practical strategies to transform even the most clichéd tourist destinations into meaningful, authentic adventures.Timing makes all the difference. Visiting Italy in November rather than July means fewer crowds, lower prices, and more available accommodations. Yes, you'll need an extra layer or two, but you'll gain a more intimate experience with the destination. Similarly, seeking out alternative experiences—like Iceland's lesser-known Glacier Lagoon instead of the crowded Blue Lagoon—provides comparable beauty without the overwhelming tourist presence. For truly immersive experiences, consider staying with locals outside tourist districts. When visiting Machu Picchu, some travelers spend days living with families in rural areas outside Cusco, gaining invaluable cultural insights before seeing the famous ruins. Even in major cities like Paris, exploring lesser-known arrondissements beyond the central tourist areas reveals authentic slices of local life most visitors never experience. The value of travel isn't about checking items off standardized bucket lists but creating meaningful connections with the places we visit. Whether you're an introvert seeking quiet experiences or simply tired of fighting crowds for the perfect photo, these strategies will help you discover the authentic heart of your destination. What's on your travel list? And more importantly—how will you experience it differently?Join our Facebook community "Solo Travel for Women Over 50" to share your own strategies for authentic travel experiences and connect with fellow adventure seekers who understand the balance between seeing iconic landmarks and discovering hidden gems.Instagram @solotraveladventures50Facebook community: Solo Travel for Women Over 50 https://www.facebook.com/groups/860865768609200Send me a message or share your solo travel story with me.https://www.speakpipe.com/SoloTravelAdventuresLeave a review:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/solo-travel-adventures-safe-travel-for-women-preparing-for-a-trip-overcoming-fear-travel-tips/id1650161410

This week it is a (possibly) crap movie, obscure slasher Tourist Trap (1979) starring Chuck Connors, Tanya Roberts, and a load of dummies... No, literally, a load of dummies!

Okay, seriously—what is going on with *The Rotten Horror Picture Show* lately? First, Clay and Amanda talk about *House of Wax*. Then they dive into *Tourist Trap*, which is basically *House of Wax* but somehow weirder. THEN they spend their Patreon episode talking about the remake of House of Wax, which is also kind of a remake of Tourist Trap. And now? Now, when they SHOULD be discussing The Others, they're going off script to discuss Blood and Black Lace, Mario Bava's Giallo classic… and wouldn't you know it, this one's packed with mannequins too! Why? Why do we keep doing this?! Look, I get it—mannequins, wax figures, lifeless-yet-human-shaped things add to the eerie atmosphere. And *Blood and Black Lace* is a stylish, brutal murder mystery full of shadowy figures, high-fashion horror, and, yes, mannequins posed in unsettling ways. It's one of the defining films of the Giallo genre, setting the stage for all the masked killers and elaborate murder sequences that would come after. Clay and Amanda are about to break it all down—the stunning cinematography, the iconic score, and how Bava turned a glamorous fashion house into a place of pure terror. But I have to ask… why do horror movies love mannequins so much? They're not alive, but they *almost* look like they could be. Their empty eyes follow you. They stand there, silent, waiting. And somehow, *somehow*, this podcast keeps circling back to them like it's some kind of cruel joke. So, if you're brave enough to stare into the cold, plastic void, join Clay and Amanda for their deep dive into *Blood and Black Lace*. As for me, I'll be listening with my back against the wall, just to make sure nothing *moves* behind me. And, for the love of all that is holy, can we please pick a movie next time that doesn't involve mannequins?!
Well, folks, it's time for another episode of *The Rotten Horror Picture Show Podcast*! This time, Clay and Amanda have used their wildcard spot to talk about the delightfully weird 1979 cult horror classic, *Tourist Trap*. If you've never seen it, you're in for a treat—creepy mannequins, unsettling psychic powers, and a totally bonkers villain make this one a standout in the world of backroads horror. Clay and Amanda bring their usual charm and thoughtful analysis to this bizarre little gem, diving into everything from the eerie atmosphere to the practical effects and why this oddball deserves more love in the horror canon. Honestly, *Tourist Trap* is the kind of movie that sticks with you—and not just because those mannequins give you the stink eye.If you're wondering why Tourist Trap, and why now, well it all has to do with this year's set of Patreon episodes, all about remakes and reboots! January's film is House of Wax, and if you want to see how Tourist Trap figures into it, well head over to patreon.com/thepenskyfile and join the fun! Now, I gotta tell ya, watching this movie hit a little close to home for me. See, I run a roadside attraction myself, and I just don't get why people don't stop here! I mean, I've got a *pristine* collection of old shoes with mismatched shoelaces. Every pair's unique, every lace tells a story—what more could anyone want? But no, people zoom right by me for some fancy giant frying pan or, I don't know, the world's biggest paperclip. It's enough to make a guy feel like a mannequin himself—just frozen, watching the world pass him by. So, tune in to hear Clay and Amanda break down *Tourist Trap* and its peculiar charms. And hey, next time you're out on the road, maybe take a little detour to see my shoe collection. Sure, it's no psychic mannequin nightmare, but it's got heart! And laces! So many laces! Anyone? Please?

Susie reveals how a Brainiac is using Brain Candy clips to teach his students about implicit bias, and we are SOOO excited about it. Who knew the NFL ate so many Uncrustables. We hear how many they're eating and Sarah's got a theory about why football players in particular have an appetite for toddler food. Spooky Season's last stop in September is aptly named, as the pod detours to Tourist Trap! Caught in the tail wave of 70s slashers that don't quite know the formula just yet, this movie is surprisingly scary with some decent acting to boot. Liz and Host Spencer talk all about this one, and try to modernize it in the end by doing a modern requel. (If this happens we want 50% of the credit.)
Jocelyn Jones was raised in an artist's community on the Hudson River just 30 minutes north of Manhattan. This idyllic hamlet is home to some of the most influential artists of our time and it was here that her interest in art, artists and their process began. She is the daughter of Henry Jones, a character actor whose credits include some 40 films and over 300 televisions shows. Mr. Jones started out as a Broadway actor, most known for "The Bad Seed", "Advise And Consent" and his Tony Award-winning performance in "Sunrise at Campobello". Ms. Jones began her career at the age of 12, appearing alongside her father and E.G. Marshall in an episode of "The Defenders."Her work in motion pictures includes Clint Eastwood, "The Enforcer" "The Other Side of the Mountain" with Beau Bridges, Al Pacino's "Serpico" as well as starring in the cult classics "Tourist Trap" and "The Great Texas Dynamite Chase."Ms. Jones has appeared on stage in both New York and Los Angeles, most notably at The Mark Taper Forum, playing Greta Garbo in the world premiere of Christopher Hampton's "Tales From Hollywood." She has also appeared with Joe Stern's Matrix Theatre Company, where she played the delightfully insane Violet in George M.
