Depending on the geographical location and culture, it varies. Could it be as simple as a way for humans to rationalize horrible things like plague and the unfortunately somewhat frequent occurrence of being buried alive?Or maybe vampires symbolize the manifestation of denied desires, or women refusing to conform. Did the idea of the modern vampire originate with Bram Stoker's Dracula? Or is there more to the story dating back hundreds more years to Lilith? We answer these questions and also discuss the presence of vampire lore in our own lives. Fika with Vicky enthusiastically welcomes guests and good friends, Michelle Desrochers and Wayne Mallows. Inspired to have a conversation about Vampires, they seemed the perfect duo to invite. Michelle, which most here will know as the cohost of the popular The Outer Realm with Michelle Destochers and Amelia Pisano, has been professionally researching the unexplained for 20 years. As well, her extensive travels have taken her to Romania, the home of one very famous vampire. Wayne Mallow is the author of The Vampyre Tales. The research he put into this series is a tale on its own. This created a more historical than horrific series, which is probably why it's one of my favourites. Grab your coffee and hold it tight, because this show is taking us places…scary places. Perhaps you should grab the garlic as well. Michelle and Wayne discuss the Vampire Lore, Waynes discusses his book series, The Count St Germain, Origins of Vampires, Michelle shows photos that she took when Visiting Romania - they include Bran castle, interior and exterior, Corvin Castle/ Hunedoara, Interior and exterior. Great informative and lighthearted conversation. More about Michelle - Michelle has been professionally and actively researching the unexplained, and successfully working in Media for the past two decades with her area of study focused primarily in the Paranormal, specifically on malevolent hauntings and attachments. She is highly versed in many subject matters within her field, and as an Extraterrestrial Experiencer, has expanded her knowledge and studies to include UFOlogy and other areas considered “High Strangeness” As an International Public Figure, she is often called upon by the media to advise, create and consult, (for television and other related media). She is Co-Producer to the very popular Radio Show “The Outer Realm” to which she co-hosts with her friend and teammate, Amelia Pisano. She has a passion for old world - ancient history and architecture to which she has always and continues to excel in. Combined with her love of travel, not only did it lead her on an incredible journey of exploration into the locations that she has always dreamed of visiting, but it opened doors to venture into locations that others have been denied access to. She considers herself to be an explorer of all that would be deemed otherworldly. Michelle's Website - https://michelledesrochers.com/ More about Wayne - He began writing when he was in grade school, because he found that it relaxed him, and helped him to “escape” the real world. As time went on, he was given the opportunity to teach a drama class at a local high school, to which he accepted and focused on the importance of stage presence and character building. This later led to a request that would change everything for him. He was asked to create a “believable” Vampire character, and not only did he comply, but his character went on to become his personal persona that would later thrive as the main character of the Vampyre Tales. His books have been taking vampire fans on a journey of their own, leaving a trail of rave reviews and one award thus far, and it's only the beginning. Wayne has spent time living in and restoring a Gothic Revival Manor House in Niagara Falls, writing and enjoying his other passion, which involved interacting with the spirit residents of his home. Let me know if it's okay, or make it okay, and send it back please. Wayne's Website - https://waynemallows.com/

How has it taken us 45 episodes to talk about Vampires? We don't know either! But this week we are satisfying an itch we didn't have talking about the New England Vampire Panic. Yes, we had one of those. And not the sort of West Coast glittery moody vampires we all panicked about in high school. These are much more gruesome...and ashy!  First witches, we've covered the ghosts, then vampires...New England is a lot more scary than we thought. Enjoy the episode! We'd appreciate it if you took a moment to help our podcast by rating and reviewing on apple and NOW on Spotify! Don't forget to check our show notes for our social links! Today we're discussing a little bit about lore and modern vampire culture. Yes, there are people who think they are vampires, more psychic energy vampires than anything else. But a few out there indulge in blood consumption but keep it on the down low. Sanguinarian vampires are on the fringe anyway. It seems the people in the vampire community are more there for role-playing anyway. 'Normal' person by day, vampire by night. Just an FYI: when this was recorded your friendly cat-herder here was very tired, getting frustrated and very easily irritated. The boys decided to drink Modelo beer instead of the cocktail I had planned for the evening. The earliest translation of the word “vampire” in English, then spelled “VAMPYRE” was in a travelogue published by The Harleian Miscellany in 1734. The piece was titled Travels of Three English Gentlemen and was part of a dissertation published in Duisburg. It was an anonymous manuscript that described the first-ever encounter with vampires. The full title is The Travels of three Gentlemen, from Venice to Hamburgh, being the grand Tour of Germany, in the Year 1734. The pages describe a great trek and upon this adventure, the author comes upon one Baron Valvasor in Lubljana, Slovenia. The Baron welcomes the men into his home and bids them stay and rest. One evening, Baron Valvasor regales them with tales of his land. The Baron is described as a man of good sense and understanding, which makes this tale all the more believable and all the more frightening...Join us as we delve into the dark and desperate world of vampires!Link to everything T-GAULP!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/MicahCampbell)

EPSIODE 150: VAMPIRE LORE WITH DACRE STOKER Dacre Stoker, great grand-nephew of Dracula author Bram Stoker, joins authors T. Fox Dunham and Phil Thomas to talk about those creatures of the night, vampires. An author and scholar of all things vampyr, Stoker has written the only official prequel, Dracul with author J.D. Barker, based on years of research into the files and history of Bram Stoker. Dacre shares his insights into vampire lore and reveals interesting details about the book; for example, Bram Stoker had originally written a different and explosive ending to the book that would have changed how we viewed his celebrated story. British folksinger David Walton narrates an excerpt from Stoker’s prequel, and the hosts are proud to offer a new story from premier horror author, Deborah Drake. The Vampire’s First Rule, narrated by T. Fox Dunham & Cindy Hermann, tells the story of an ancient conflict between two vampires that finally ends in the sacred cave of the Eternal Half-Lighters. Then to finish the show, Dacre shares a true ghost story about his encounter with a bishop’s ghost that haunts the cellars of Marsh’s Library in Dublin, Ireland. Welcome to Everything Trying to Kill You, the comedy podcast that talks about horror movies! Join Maegan, Mary Kay, Mary, and their lovely guest, Emily Martin, on their episode about Interview with the Vampire. They answer questions like, who is your vampire soulmate? What makes Anne Rice’s vampire convention so much better than traditional vampire lore? Do you think Anne Rice being an erotic author makes it too obvious that Lestat and Louis are a couple? How does this film utilize Kiss-or-Kill distance? Since Tom Cruise hijacked The Mummy, does he deserve to be kissed anymore? Do vampires consent to becoming vampires? Is life-saving consent implied? Are children innocent? What’s the big deal about making a vampire out of a child? How is this text still Gothic, despite its production in the 1990s? How is Lestat similar to Dr. Frankenstein? What does blood taste like to vampires? What is the nature of Louis and Claudia’s relationship? How old is Claudia actually? How do we feel about the idea that Louis values human life but he owns humans? What exactly does “Creole” mean? Why does Bourbon Street smell like sin? How did the voodoo practiced by Louis’ slaves add to or takeaway from the horror? Was the end of this film SUPER rushed? Does it end in the right place? What’s the difference in watching the Vampire Theater from watching this movie on the screen? What brand of lip gloss does Lestat wear? Who would you re-cast as Lestat?Interview with the Vampire (1994) Written by Anne Rice and directed by Neil Jordan. Starring Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Kirsten Dunst, Antonio Banderas. Genre: adventure, thriller, drama, horrorPlot summary: Born as an 18th-century lord, Louis (Brad Pitt) is now a bicentennial vampire, telling his story to an eager biographer (Christian Slater). Suicidal after the death of his family, he meets Lestat (Tom Cruise), a vampire who persuades him to choose immortality over death and become his companion. Eventually, gentle Louis resolves to leave his violent maker, but Lestat guilts him into staying by turning a young girl (Kirsten Dunst) -- whose addition to the "family" breeds even more conflict.Links for your auditory pleasure….Take the Who is Your Favorite Vampire Soulmate Quiz! https://bookriot.com/2018/09/20/vampire-soulmate-quiz/Ilovewerewolves.com Emily Martin’s podcast, Book Squad Goals: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/book-squad-goals/id1230209775?mt=2
