He first gained notoriety for producing Dee Mula's hit single "Crank Up," which received a remixed.[00:00:48] with Stunna 4 Vegas and Moneybagg Yo. He later gained even more popularity for producing the Moneybagg Yo and DaBaby collaboration "Protect Da Brand," [00:01:00] which became his first Billboard charting song ever. The track peaked at number 89 and on the Billboard Hot 100 on the week of January 25th, 2020. (Genius Media Group)"[00:01:12] He also has more songs on the billboard cause right now, ladies and gentlemen. Please listen to the whole episode with the one and only YC, also known as TurnMeUpYC.[00:01:28] Hey YC! Welcome to The Brittney Mack Podcast. What's good with it? Everything is good. How are you doing? Everything is good. Everything is blessed and humbled.[00:01:39] How is your mom?[00:01:46] She's doing good. How about yours? She's doing good. I know they probably haven't seen each other in forever 'cause my mama moved. Man, forever. I already know. Yes. I want to start out by asking you, can you take me [00:02:00] back to tell me how did you start being a producer? What made you want to do that? It was like my 11th grade year, the year ya'll graduated. It was me and RealRed. 'Cause you know RealRed went to Fayette Academy.[00:02:20] When he left for the summer, class of 2016 summer, the year y'all graduated, we worked. Me and RealRed worked. I stopped making beats for a minute and I seen RealRed got good at it. I was like I'm irritated. This ism't going to work. Making beats isn't for me. I seen RealRed a month latetandingr. I seen he got cold in 2016. I told him he got cold and then I stuck to it. I was like if RealRed can do it, I know I can do it. That's how it started. That's the day I fell in love with [00:03:00] it. When I made my first beat, I fell in love with it every since.[00:03:06] Yeah. RealRed's consistency and progress inspired you? Yeah, he inspired me a lot, like[00:03:20] man, I gotta do it. So I stuck with it and I kept going. That's what's up. That is really awesome. One thing I was telling Red is I'm so proud of y'all because y'all are sticking together. Y'all are still holding each other up. One thing I love about y'all is, it's nothing like a crabs in a barrel mentality.[00:03:42] And I see that a lot. Y'all are like butterflies that just, fly together. You know what I'm saying? Yes. I love to see it. I really love to see it. That's also what I like to call my guests. I like to call my guests, butterflies because we all fly [00:04:00] together and stick together and then, I just see everybody working together even after I'm recording different people and I just be I'm so impressed.[00:04:09] I be so impressed by everyone. Right. What is something that people seem to misunderstand about you?[00:04:19] How hard I work. People just think, man, I can wake up and just do this. It took time and progress, behind closed doors. It's dedication. I can make a beat one o'clock that evening and don't get out until 7 that morning. That's how dedicated I was, and I still am.[00:04:45] I'm just not the same weight today. It was like, how hard I work, I want people to see that, but it's showing in my music and what I'm putting out there and giving it to the people that want it, especially Fayette County [00:05:00] 'cause you know it ain't nothing going on out there, but it's love out there. I just want people to see how and how dedicated I am.[00:05:12] Right. Just like you said, we don't have many people from Fayette County or Moscow rather, that are doing great things that can speak for the work ethic of our city. So it's like being one, the, one of the first people to do that. It's like, Oh, we really gotta, hit hard. So that we can inspire everybody else[00:05:38] that's coming behind us. It's going to hit harder for us because we are a small town and folks ain't gonna surpass.[00:05:50] One day. They going to know what saying Fayette County means. What it means to us...Email thebrittneymackpodcast@brittneymack.com to request the (98% accurate) full transcript.

She will also give insight to the biggest mistakes people can make with branding. Please welcome Ms. Erica Dias.[00:01:14] Hello, Ms. Erica Dias. Thank you so much for being here. Thank you so much for having me. It's an honor to have you as the first black woman entrepreneur and author. Well, thank you so much. I'm definitely honored. Yeah. And I know you have the business and you started that with your sister, Ashley Jernigan. Yeah, my sister and I started the B firm PR about, um, April, 2010.[00:01:46] What made you go into business with your sister? I know some people shy away from going into business with family, but I think that's a great idea. Yeah. So the good thing about my sister and [00:02:00] I is we are the opposite. However, we are alike in many ways. Um, my sister is very, very cross your T's, dot your[00:02:11] I's. I'm more of the visionary. Um, you know, step out on faith with $500 or less and make things happen. Uh, but my sister is very like, you know, plan it out a through Z. And so with that being my sister's personality and my personality. . Um, it actually built me well in business because even though, um, I brought the idea to my sister, she understood business, and she was definitely supportive of, um, this idea that I had.[00:02:45] Uh, so she handled the business aspect of it that I wasn't too familiar with. My sister also was already a seasoned publicist, um, and working. And the industry as a publicist, I was actually working [00:03:00] in the industry as a wardrobe stylist for television and film and commercials. And when I decided to step out on faith and create[00:03:10] this new business venture, which is a family business, my sister was definitely the first one that I made the call too. And like I said, with her, believing in the idea and understanding business, she set the business up and I, you know, stepped out and got the clients. Yes, that is awesome. That is very awesome.[00:03:31] So can you tell the audience exactly what you do in PR. Okay. So what my sister and I do is we basically create the narrative being told to the public, um, that can be whether it's in a magazine, whether it's on television, whether it's on a blog, um, you know, Speaking engagements. I basically take a client and I help them build their brand behind the [00:04:00] scene.[00:04:00] Um, you know, making sure that their brand is highlighted for the best of their ability. Um, we create, uh, opportunities for our clients as well, too, whether it comes to, you know, endorsement deals, um, strategic brand partnership. Um, I also make sure that. The narrative being told to the media is the story that we tell, you know, um, it's, it's always true story.[00:04:31] However, what you guys see our read about when it comes to clients that, um, my firm posts or that my firm represents, that's the story that we've told. That's the pitch that we gave and that's what helped. We too, that a client being maybe featured in Forbes or Huffington post or black enterprise, um, it's, it's the story that we create that makes, you know, the media buy into it.[00:05:00] [00:05:00] I say you always work with huge companies and huge people. So. Even when you were doing the fashion and things like that. So how do you land great opportunities with those huge people? Cause I know with the fashion you did, you just told us what you did with PR. So with fashion, you did Comcast Doritos Macy's VH1 and the list goes on.[00:05:26] So how do you gain those huge opportunities? So, um, I honestly want to credit that, that those opportunities to, um, really just my hard work and determination and, and just assertiveness when it came to not waiting on anybody that can mean anything, but I was one of those, you know, those young. Women in high school who was very ambitious, very driven.[00:05:56] And I knew what I wanted at a young age. So I was [00:06:00] a big, uh, vision board person and I still am. But back in the day I would, I would, uh, put vision boards all around my room and it would have pictures, magazine, cutouts, words of, um, people that I aspire to. To the life or people that were doing the things that I aspire to do or wanted to do.[00:06:21] And people that I admired and June Ambrose, um, who is a wardrobe stylist to miss me, Alia JZ, she's created ample amount of work as a costume designer for movies like belly and, uh, you know, different artists. And I was blown away by her, um, her, her work, her work ethic, um, just her being a woman of color who looked like me and who was killing it.[00:06:48] And so at a young age, uh, Brown, 15, 16, I reached out to June Ambrose. You know, there was no Instagram back then there was no Twitter. Uh, I believe there was my [00:07:00] face and there was, uh, You know, just a phone book, you know, and I ended up getting her company's, uh, business information and I actually called on my lunch break.[00:07:13] I'll never forget. I caught on my lunch break at high school and I was using one of my friend's phone and. She had a flip phone and I called, um, her office, an ambulance to his office. And, um, I guess I sounded professional enough to where her assistant at the time put her on the phone, you know? And I said to myself, a little prayer, which was something real short and sweet, like, okay, you have five minutes to basically give her, you know, your elevator pitch.[00:07:45] God, please give me the right words to say. And. You know, I told her that I had been admiring her from afar and who I was, and I asked her, I said, if you give me a telephone internship, because mind you, I was still in high [00:08:00] school. So I said, if you give me a telephone internship, I said, I will come and work for you for free when I graduated high school, no matter where I am, where you are, if you give me this opportunity, you know, like I will promise to show you that I can, you know, Be enacted, you know, and thankfully active time in mind you.[00:08:21] But like I said, there was no Instagram, there was no Twitter. This woman knows me, not from a, you know, like a can of paint. She literally was receptive at that time. She couldn't even believe that I was in high school calling her. Cause I even ended up telling her like, you know, she was like, you're in high school.[00:08:37] And I say, yes, I'm on my lunch break. So we gotta make this quick, like I'm sneaking on the phone. And she was receptive. Gave me an opportunity. Uh, I speak to her maybe like. I don't know once every couple of months. Um, and she would just kind of, you know, give me advice. I would tell her what I was doing.[00:08:58] Um, we kept in contact all [00:09:00] the way until, you know, I had the opportunity to meet her in person and I'll never forget, I never had been starstruck, but when. I met her and she walked up the elevator. I thought I saw like that cousin. I was like, Oh my God, I've arrived. Like, this is the woman who I've been admiring since I was in high school.[00:09:18] You know, I finally get my opportunity to work with her. And by this time I'm at least 21, you know? So imagine being a 16 year old girl, 15 year old girl who has been admiring somebody for that many years, and then you finally meet them, um, And with the advice that you had given me throughout high school and my college years, um, I had done it, you know, like, like it was Bible and I even went a step further and, you know, went to cosmetology school while I was in high school.[00:09:50] I didn't want to limit my skillset, um, in the industry of Baxton and beauty and. I went to [00:10:00] cosmetology school. I was very much so into speaking things into existence. If there was somebody that I wanted to intern with, I wanted to work with. I was the first one, you know, applying, putting my application in interning.[00:10:15] You know, mom, my parents honestly were, were very supportive with my endeavor. So I can honestly say that even though I had to fit dreams in these goals, if it wasn't for them supporting the essence of those business goals and dreams. You know, financially and even just, you know, uh, just supported me and emotionally, like I wouldn't have been able to do it, you know, because a lot of people have dreams and, and, and don't have the news to, uh, to though, you know, and, and my family was very supportive of the goals that I had for myself.[00:10:51] And along with, like I said, women like June Ambrose, who gave me an opportunity, I wouldn't have been able to have that opportunity. If my mom, [00:11:00] wasn't there to support, you know, my dream. So that's honestly where I have gotten those opportunities. Have it started with my foundation, you know, my, my mom, my grandmother, my dad believing in me and helping me and, and honestly telling me at a young age that I can do anything that I want it to be.[00:11:21] And, um, you know, I knew just continuing to knock down doors. That's where I got. That those opportunities from, you know, just putting myself out there, um, you know, being the one who would raise her hand when guest speakers would come in, if they will work in that Nordstrom's or Dior, or, you know, wherever in the facts and departments are on these six facts and shows, I was...Email thebrittneymackpodcast@brittneymack.com to request the (98% accurate) full transcript.

On today's episode, my sister and her boyfriend, Eric will tell their love story and, how they make their long-distance relationship work. A long-distance relationship is an intimate relationship between partners who are geographically separated from one another.Welcome Tia and Eric to The Brittney Mack Podcast. Hey! How is your relationship going? Good. Everything is fun and fresh still. How long have you been in the relationship? Three years. How long was it long-distance? Three years. Did you go into the relationship knowing that it was going to be long-distance or? No, not really. It just happened. It is a complicated story that you are going to explain later. Yes, pretty much. Are you excited to tell your love story? Sure. Yeah. You find a book and begins to discover that is your life. You get to the point that you are now that you turn the page, knowing that you will not be able to change the events to cone.I would turn the page and read the rest of your story. Because it is about your life story, right? You all love stories. If you Solly, it was really, he will still turn the page, even though you cannot change nothing. I would, I would not do it. So why would you, and why would not you. Well for me, I mean, if I could see the feature, I mean, I would see it.And even if I cannot change things, the events that will happen, I can always prepare for them like mentally and physically in higher ed. Me on the other hand, I would stay on the page because I am very happy and content with what our relationship is right now. I just do not want to. Rolling the surprises, I would rather it to be yeah, like a surprise and keep it fresh and juicy and not bored the story.I do not think knowing what boring, it is just like in their mom and you will be like, wow, I can revive it. It is going to happen. But you are still going to experience, those events. It is going to surprise you where you know, what is going to happen, but you cannot. Experiencing a band versus seeing an event is different.Like being shot versus seeing someone get shot this totally different, but you won't be surprised like, you know, you are going to get shot, but you cannot stop them from Hackney to, you are not going to be surprised like, Oh, I know I am going to get shot. I got shot. You are going to be surprised of the emotion that you feel, the pain that you feel of that shot wound is not going to stop.It is not going to change the bag. You know, it is going to hurt. They are going to react the same. You know, it is going to hurt, you know, that you know where you are going to get shot at this point. So, what, so you are not surprised being shot and sure, love stories. This is going to be going on for the rest of your life.If you get shot. There is kind of like, okay, they happened now, you over with it, but this is kind of like, you really know everything I want to, can you really read open to who's going to die phrases? I mean, you know, men died. Relationship. Yeah.Fortunately. Yeah. So, with this whole little, little story, I would like to hear it. How did you guys meet? Well, I can start that off. Um, Eric chime me whenever you feel that you should. But, um, so I remember we met, um, my freshman year of college and it was his junior year of college, um, a Christian brothers university in 2015.And, um, apparently, we had a lot of classes together. But I never noticed him until one day he held the door open for me. And like the thing that he said made me feel like he was getting smarter, having like a little attitude with me. So, I, at that point I was like, oh my gosh, I did not like this dude right here. And I did not say thank you to him. I did not even address him or anything. I said, thank you to his friend, because if they'll point out, like you do not deserve to hear what I have to say, because if I do say something, then we were going to have a problem. Yeah, he was trauma. I would have got real smart with him or you not like real sassy and we probably would not be here today, or maybe we would, who knows? But I feel like it was common courtesy for you to say thank you. Whenever someone opens or holds the door for you, I do not care how long, but the word thanks you. Was not going to come out of my mouth. So, I chose not to say. What he did by opening the door because I was so far away from the door. Like. I was halfway in the football field.Like they are, cannot be, I was going to school. So, I was so far from the door and I saw him walking into the door and he, he turned back and saw me, and he continued to hold the door. So, I turned and was like, who is this dude holding the door for? Because like I am so far away, like, I do not understand. And so, he proceeds to say, man, I am not going to hold his door forever. And then I am like, I am sorry? Who do he think he talking to? Because first of all, he does not know me. So, I do not understand why he feels like he could say something like that like we knew each other. I may, knew like he was playing or something, but the way I took it, it was kind of like disrespect.Hm. It was in a jokingly manner. You say, I was basically like what I say, like, Oh, wow, Hey, I am over here holding the door. And I said, nah, I am not going to hold this door all day for you. Yeah. He was like that, you know. I did not read the body language. If one of my guy friends said that to me, I could read their body language that they are just joking. But since I did not know him, like, I do not feel like you should talk to a stranger like that because.Everyone does not receive everything the same way, especially if they do not know you or know your personality. And I knew nothing about him. Right. Okay. I asked you that because now that I think about it, I probably would have been like, Oh, who is he talking to like this? I said that in my head. But you did not say it out loud, but you did say thank you.So, he is playing. I was acting like heis not there. I was like, thank you. And I kept walking proceeding to class. Thank you to your friends. Yeah, I was right there. I was basically dumbfounded. Oh, okay. Okay. It is like that. And I do not, I do not like, I cannot remember of any more days after that, that I held the door for you. What happened after that? That basically like hated this dude. Like I could not stay outside. We had, we had classes together, so I saw him every single day. Monday through Friday, we had three classes together. You mean bugging him? Like he used the door sometimes but listen to this though. Before, before the door incident, she did not know who I was.Yeah. She did not even know I existed. He was saying she was noticing you. Now notice me planting my seeds. As I usually say, I, you did not know none of this was going on. That is just like this dude right here. Like I cannot stand him. Like he got an attitude problem. I tell him my friends, my family, I tell everyone about this situation because. It just touched me, felt like I never had a dude to say that to me while holding the door for me. So, it really like, I am like, wow. So, this is what college dudes are all about. How they treat girls. Like I am like what? But then they, you see him any other place other than classes after they lived in the same dorm hall as well. So, I would see him there. Yeah, same floor. And I am just like, Oh, this dude here. And I will see him in the cafeteria. And it is like, I am just, I am sad to see him now. You got to see him all the time. I am seeing him all the time now. And in the back of your mind, you just like not liking it. Yeah. And then, so one day my friend, one of my old friends, she, um, she was like, Ooh girl, you should talk to him. When she is at the same class, we were in the calf, in the cafeteria eating lunch or something. And he walked by like, you know, we could see him through the windows, the glass windows. And she was like, Oh God, the book, it was not the book. It was the cab all funds. Okay. But we just call it look half.So yeah, we, he was walking past, going to the CAF and she was like, girl, he fine. And I am like, Yeah, but now he got an attitude problem and she was like, oh girl, now do not talk to him. We do not do attitude house. I am like, yes, that is right. And then after that, then some of my head kind of like switched essentially say, yeah, he is cute.So somebody else thought he was cute. Yeah. In my head switched. And I am like, so somebody else had to say that I was cute. They recognize they necessarily, I mean, I do not know, like she, she like, out of all the other girls that was at the table, she seen me, she was like, I should talk to him. He found, because I held the door open for you.she was black. It was a PWI. I was barely black people on that campus. Yeah. So she said it out the blue, which was weird. Like, why are you picking me? It is like five or six, the other girls at this table. Yeah. Well, one was white, but she was like, but that you could have said it too. And she tells me science is like, Girl, you gotta deal with it.But then like once they, he, I was like, well, yeah, he is kind of cute. And then now, you know, you used to like talk to me at the coffee, stand saying stuff to me, plants, planting seeds. I am just like, keep seeing him and noticing him and, you know, He was warming up to me. So then, you know, you went from cannot standing him, to ending up having a crush on him.And so, um, it was my birthday, October the seventh, and my friends threw me a surprise birthday party. And, um, he ended up coming to it. What made you come to the party? I went to the party. Um, I was invited by two other people. I was at my room. It was, where would you say they were, they were your friends of yours?Uh, there were associates of mine, uh, and, uh, they just came, knocked on my door, asked what I was doing. I was sitting in there watching basketball and the dark, and...
