Writer, director, and producer Bradley Cooper joins us to discuss the sound of his latest film, “Is This Thing On?” Audio became a primary storytelling tool in shaping the film's deeply subjective point of view. In conversation with the film's sound team, the director breaks down how perspective, texture, and restraint were used to place audiences directly inside the emotional experience of a man discovering stand-up comedy as his marriage unravels. For Cooper, that approach ultimately comes back to how films are meant to be experienced in theaters.“It's really about the theatergoing experience — how you best tell the story in these rooms, in this theatrical space. And to me, I haven't seen a better version than those two elements: Dolby Vision and Atmos. When Stefan [Sonnenfeld] and I colored the Dolby Vision, it was like, ‘Oh — there's the movie.' And when you do it in Atmos, in terms of mixing sound… the immersive experience — it's just a whole different experience than a 5.1 mix. It's not even in the same universe… And once you go there, you can never go back. I watched a movie the other night that wasn't in Atmos, and I couldn't stop imagining what it could be.”—Bradley Cooper, Writer, Director, Producer, “Is This Thing On?”Joining today's conversation:- Bradley Cooper, Director, Producer- Dane A. Flashdance leading man Michael Nouri sits down with Steve Kmetko for a wide-ranging, funny, and unexpectedly emotional conversation about his decades in Hollywood — from Goodbye, Columbus and Flashdance to Broadway, Victor/Victoria, Yellowstone, and beyond. Michael looks back on the night the acting bug bit him in a high school Gilbert & Sullivan production, his early stage days with legends like Julie Harris, and bombing his very first movie line opposite Ali MacGraw in Goodbye, Columbus. He talks about trying to dodge the Vietnam draft, enlisting, and then being honorably discharged because the Army literally couldn't find boots big enough for his size-16 feet. Of course, he dives into Flashdance: the terrible reviews, the electric audience reaction, that rare standing ovation in Westwood, working with director Adrian Lyne, producers Simpson & Bruckheimer, and co-star Jennifer Beals (plus their canine scene partner, Grunt). He explains how the massive success of the film didn't translate into the career momentum he'd hoped for, the movie with William Friedkin that fell apart, and how he ended up in Bay City Blues alongside a then-unknown Sharon Stone instead. Michael also shares powerful stories from touring South Pacific right after 9/11 — including emotional nightly renditions of “God Bless America” with audiences arm-in-arm — and the chance encounter with Blake Edwards that led to him starring opposite Julie Andrews in Victor/Victoria, complete with a custom song by Henry Mancini. He reflects on aging in Hollywood, evolving from leading man to dads, granddads, and senators, still auditioning for filmmakers like Bradley Cooper, and staying grateful that the phone keeps ringing. Along the way, he remembers working with Sean Connery, F. Murray Abraham, Glenn Close, Naomi Watts, Kelly Reilly, and even Anna Nicole Smith, plus the life lesson he learned the hard way trying to approach Luciano Pavarotti backstage. He also opens up about political anxiety, the emotional toll of the news cycle, the importance of community, and why he now protects his peace by switching from cable news to TCM. And yes, we meet Charlie, his “heart on four legs,” and hear how daily meditation keeps him grounded after more than five decades in the business. If you love Flashdance, classic Hollywood stories, Broadway memories, and honest talk about surviving and adapting in this business, this episode is a gem. But then his obvious comedic ability steered him in a different direction. This week everyone saw everything, so we start off with Park Chan-Wook's latest, the darkly comic thriller NO OTHER CHOICE (2:51), in which a 25-year veteran of a paper company is laid off and after a series of poor interviews, can't find another job. So he does the next logical thing: He decides to murder everyone in his field who may be more qualified than he is. Yikes! We all had our problems with this (it ain't THE HANDMAIDEN), but we did find things to like. But it seems we're outliers; NO OTHER CHOICE is getting critical raves but we all found it lukewarm for one reason or another. We follw up with Bradley Cooper's latest directorial effort, IS THIS THING ON? (28:44) Alex (Will Arnett, who's dynamite and also co-wrote the script) starts doing stand-up while sorting through the ditritus of his marriage. Tess (Laura Dern, who's dynamite) returns to her first (professional) love, and...things happen! (Sorry. It's 3 a.m.) Two of us really enjoyed this, and one of us did not. Over on Patreon, we talk about the 1985 Martin Scorsese comedy AFTER HOURS.

Award season is nigh, so is the holiday movie season. All the movies are heavily advertised and publicized now. But not all of them are worth your good money, In fact, we may save you a lot of money this time around. We start with "Marty Supreme." It's this year's award bait movie starring Timothee Chalamet. There was one last year too but this one is about a ping pong player. Really. We all saw it and let's just say we pretty much agree on it. We've also all seen "Jay Kelly." "It stars George Clooney as a movie star named Jay Kelly. It's got Adam Sandler in it too. Our thumbs all pretty much pointed in the same direction on this one too. But which way? Then there's "Is This Thing On?" starring Will Arnet as a standup comedian going through a divorce. "Aren't they all? You ask. Yes, but they're not all directed by Bradley Cooper. We've also got a quirky fable called "100 Nights a Hero" which probably won't play in a theater near you but should you watch it when it inevitably streams? And there's "Merrily We Roll Along" which is a filmed version of a Broadway musical which people payed big money to see. But even crappy Broadwaymusicals cost big money to see. Is this worth paying a movie price to watch? There's more. There's the streaming series "Pluribus" and tales of film company parties too. Plus we'll fill you in on who got snubbed by the Golden Globes and the Critics Choice Awards. And by our count we may save you over $100 bucks you would have wasted at the movies so you owe us a listen.

Banks today have a great number of customer experience pain points. There's the trust factor to consider, on whether customers feel their bank actually care about them and their financial struggles. But there's also the fact that customers expect a seamless experience across multiple channels, whether that's in the branch, mobile or at the branch. In today's episode of the Bank Customer Experience podcast, Brian McEvoy, chief retail banking officer at Webster Five, joined Bradley Cooper to discuss how banks can navigate these customer pain points. He said during the podcast that "people process technology in unison." In other words, the various platforms have to work together. It's not enough to have a fancy mobile app that doesn't integrate well with your other bank platforms or doesn't integrate with third party apps.McEvoy added that the hardest part for banks is: "How do you make a frictionless experience for the customer?" This is a particularly big problem as customers have far less patience for any frustration in the experience."If there's any pain point in the experience, our tolerance and patience is less than it used to be."So how do banks address this? McEvoy pointed to a few important elements:Refocus branches to have a custom experience for guests.Use AI to automate simpler tasks.Use a mobile-first strategy to ensure all your bank's features are accessible.During the discussion, McEvoy addressed several subtopics such as:Identifying pain points.Making a good branch experience.Keeping the personal touch while also using AI.Listen to the full discussion above.

In 2022 I was deep into therapy regarding my marriage and myself. My counselor at the time recommended a book, “I Don't Want to Talk About It: Overcoming the Secret Legacy of Male Depression,” by a therapist named Terry Real. I read the book and opened up a whole new level of understanding about myself. Terry then released a book titled US: Getting Past You and Me to Build a More Loving Relationship, which my therapist also recommended. Shortly after I was contacted by an agency about having Terry on this podcast. He was being touted as actress Gwyneth Paltrow's favorite relational therapist and was being praised by actor Bradley Cooper, psychotherapist Esther Perel, and the forward to the book is a candid, vulnerable story from Bruce Springsteen where he shares, “At age thirty two I hit an emotional wall and realized I was lost in a deep dark forest, largely of my own making, without a map. So began forty years of trying to find my way through the shadowed trees, down to the river of a sustaining life. Terry Real has been a guide and this book is a map through those trees.” For me the book revealed much about how I perceived a separateness in my relationships that was not helping create connection and intimacy. In Us, Terry showcases how we culturally live as “you and me” when the bedrock of our being is us. I agree. Find Terry at terryreal.com. The squad investigates the case of a dead woman found with hundred dollar bills shoved in her mouth. Detectives Benson and Stabler learn the woman was an undocumented worker at a woman's sex club. A community activist (Rita Moreno) tells the detectives 16 undocumented women have been attacked by the same rapist - but none will report the crimes for fear of deportation. When Serbian refugee Nina gives Olivia the cash her attacker left, they link a fingerprint to an attorney (Bradley Cooper) who handles the estate for socialite Eleanor Duvall (Angela Lansbury, in an Emmy-nominated performance). Elliot suspects her oddball son Gabriel (Alfred Molina) is the rapist, but the victim is mysteriously detained before she can make an identification.ADA Casey Novak stops Nina's deportation so she can testify against Duvall. As she prepares for trial, an assailant disguised as a flower delivery man beats Casey up in her office. Stabler accuses Duvall, but the attacker is actually Nina's religiously conservative brother, incensed that Novak has let the world know his sister is no longer a virgin. The assault on the prosecutor complicates the case, so DA Arthur Branch gives it to ADA Tracey Kibre (Bebe Neuwirth) for a trial by jury. We're talking about Special Victims Unit season six episode 20 "Night," the first part of a crossover episode with Law & Order: Trial by Jury season one episode 11 "Day." Vi pratar också bland annat om: Adam Scovell, folk horror, Witchfinder General, Blood On Satan´s Claw, The Wicker Man, konfliktlinjen nutid/dåtid, folktro, vidskepligheter, The Folk Horror Chain, Candyman, Cabrini Green, isolation, urbana legender, folklore, hemsökt arkitektur, psykogeografi, liminal spaces, Nigel Kneale, science fiction, The Quatermass Xperiment, Quatermass 2, The Woman in Black, The Stone Tape, Halloween III: Season of the Witch, John Carpenter, Prince of Darkness, ockulta utredningar, Swinging London, kosmisk skräck, M.R. James, Whistle and I´ll Come to You, A Warning to the Curious 2. H.P. Lovecraft, At the Mountains of Madness, Gary Sherman, Dead & Buried, Poltergeist III, Titta dom snackar-Emil, proggjazz, perversiteter, kameraåkningar, ljuddesign, kapitalism, klasskildringar, trasproletariat, kannibalism, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, avgudabilder, hauntology, Sjöwall/Wahlöö, Clive Barker, New York, Ryuhei Kitamura, j-horror, Bradley Cooper, Vinnie Jones, att känna sig smutsig, lovecraftiansk skräck, Midsommar, Florence Pugh, John Turturro, Brooke Shields, CGI, gore, monsterdesign och Sara Bergmark Elfgrens "Grim". Patrobs får sig också till livs en jämförelsestudie av Clive Barkers The Midnight Meat Train från 1984 och filmatiseringen med samma namn från 2008.  Mycket nöje!

Banks are embracing AI for several different purposes. Some are using it for fraud detection, loan origination and handling basic customer interactions. While big banks have a great deal of resources for AI, community banks can also take advantage of AI tools; however, there's a danger here that banks will over-rely on AI, or not give bankers the ability to override AI decisions and in turn lose that personal touch.Mack Turner, marketing and insights analyst at Mack Turner Marketing Consulting and Insights LLC joined Bradley Cooper to discuss how banks are using and how they should be using AI in today's episode of the Bank Customer Experience podcast. For larger banks, Turner said that "banks increasingly use AI to forecast customer behavior in the credit decisioning and predictive modeling space. Large banks use AI to scale what humans can do, especially where data is voluminous and patterns subtle."On the community banking side, he discussed how can use AI for fraud or check detection, as well as screening small business lending. On the banker side, this has led to bankers increasingly moving away from routine transactions to high emotion, stressful conversations with customers such as fraud events or mortgages. Turner said that due to this shift banks need to make sure employees are well supported to avoid burnout.Other topics discussed during the podcast included:The importance of empathy for the customer and the employee.Enabling employees to override AI decisions.Using AI to support rather than replace humans.Listen to the podcast in its entirety above.
