Peach jam from frozen, and Oopsie!I had 21 plastic dishes of frozen diced peaches, each 4.4 ounces, taking up space in my extra refrigerator freezer, and no one had eaten any in months, so I put all of the containers in a dishpan and let them thaw out overnight in the fridge. The next day I made jam. For the first recipe I used:4 1/2  cups peaches which was 11 of the plastic dishes1 package of low sugar pectin3 cups white sugarThis recipe was inside the box of the low sugar pectin, which in this case happened to be SureJell in the pink box.Low sugar jam…mixed one package of low sugar dry pectin with 1/4 cup of the sugar, added to the diced peaches, brought to rolling boil on stove, added the remainder of the sugar, simmered for one minute once came to rolling boil again, stirring quite often. Used immersion blender for about thirty seconds as I didn’t want lots of chunks. Fill the jars to first line on the jars, I got seven 8 ounce jelly jars and two 4 ounce jelly jars to process and I did one four ounce jar to put right into the fridge as soon as the jam cooled enough. Made sure there was at least one inch of water covering them.  Canned using the water bath cycle of my Presto Precise digital canner. Processed 10 minutes. And this is where I goofed…forgot to remove regulator before processing, I had left it on there after the last time I used the canner, and I got the E30 error, had to turn regulator to ‘vent’, let it release pressure till the little button dropped, then removed regulator, unlocked cover, let canner cool for 15 minutes, check to be sure have enough water, start over. With this digital canner I don’t use the regulator for water bath. Skimming; gap between the lid and the food is called head space and foam in a jar increases the head space and I don’t want to waste my jar space on the foam. But I didn’t throw my little bit of foam away, which also had some of the peach bits in it…I had some of it later in the evening on toast.Full sugar jam:4 cups peaches which was 10 of the plastic cups1 package regular pectin, and the brand I used was SureJell in the yellow box2 tablespoons lemon juice5 cups white sugar1/2 teaspoon cinnamonThis recipe I found on line and I’ll link to it. I don’t know why this one called for the lemon juice and the SureJell one did not, but I followed the directions because from doing online research I read that jellies and jams do their best setting up when directions ARE followed exactly. I made this one the same way as the first one, even using the immersion blender. This time I paid attention to what I was doing, plus the regulator was already off of the cover. I got 9 full 8 ounce jelly jars of the peach cinnamon jam, the 9th jar due to the extra sugar. I had to soak my dutch oven pan as soon as it was empty because the jam mixture sticks pretty well to the inside and without soaking it’s a bear to clean.Remember: Hot jam=into hot jars=into hot waterI have to give a shout out followup to my  Axuan Oven Mitts that I mentioned in a previous episode. They are the ones described as ‘Made with high-quality durable material, 100% cotton twill fabric and food grade silicone’. I used them today to grab the jars out of the full canner of water after the jar warming cycle, because I had already dumped water on myself trying to grasp an un-lidded jar of water with my jar lifter, Despite me sticking my hand into the  water, it wasn’t till I was almost done removing the last jar that I could barely feel the warmth of the boiling water. Definitely a great buy in my opinion.https://barefeetinthekitchen.com/peach-jam-made-by-my-manhttps://tinyurl.com/ybf2vvdf  Axuan Oven Mitts on Amazon

We initially met Elizabeth Jolly at our second ever race at the 2018 24 Hours of Lemons race in Thompson CT.  We then listened to her on the first few Shifting Points podcast.  Then we met her at our recent skid pad and autocross event at Lime Rock Park with the SCDA group.  It was at this point, we realized that these three ladies were all the same person.  We could say we were overwhelmed at our second race; we could also say that we didn't recognize her since she was in her “Flo” costume, but it was great to meet her in person for the second time.  On this episode, we catch up with Elizabeth on her thoughts about the SCDA event, her new E30 race car and then we talk through how to learn to work on a car from a starting point of near zero skills, experience, and tools.  Both Elizabeth and Vicki have both progressed far in the past few years and maybe someday Bill will as well.  Lol.    On this episode’s Dominating with Dawson, we go into Ben’s extensive karting experience and discuss the various types of karts and kart racing available.  Karting can definitely help your driving and racing, most things translate, and it is a great way to practice for relatively low cost.  We do try to go into the parts of karting that translate and what doesn’t translate directly due to the difference in car geometry and suspension.  While Ben is pulled away for his daddy duties, we take a slight detour into cake baking and decorating from our resident cake decorating expert, Miss Jen.  Our first ever partial WOOT DwD episode.  Even Ben came to the table with a Coca Cola cake, recipe tbd, lol. Our 2021 season started off with another skid pad and autocross event at Lime Rock Park.  This time the event was held by the SCDA.  We go into our goals for the event, how we did, and hopefully a long list of what we learned.  The weather was great and more than we could have asked for this early in the season.  In addition to a great event with tons of track time, we also met Elizabeth Jolly and her new to her E30 BMW 3 series race car.  Actually, it was for the second time, as we had met at our teams second ever race in 2018 at the 24 Hours of Lemons race in Thompson Connecticut.  Both Vicki and Jennifer were finally able to feel the pause in the CPR “Correct, Pause, and Recover” process of catching a car.  On this episode’s Dominating with Dawson, we go into the speed at which you will use your hands.  Typically, karters and autocross drivers are trained to move their hands much more quickly than a track driver, but there are times where fast hands are preferred.  There is a good discussion of the times where you need to move your hands more quickly and times when a more slow and predictable hand movement is optimal.  We also digress into a gumball machine discussion for a bit.  It was a late night of recording, lol. You can subscribe to our podcast on the podcast provider of your choice, including the Apple podcast app, Google music, Amazon, and YouTube etc.  Also, if you could give our podcast a (5-star?) rating or even better, a podcast review, we would greatly appreciate it and it would help us to grow the passion and sport of high performance driving.  For instance, leaving an Apple Podcast rating is very easy.  If you go to your podcast library, under shows and click on the podcast you can leave a (5?) star rating and enter your review.  A link to the episode is: https://tinyurl.com/SCDASkidPad We hope you enjoy this episode! BMW M3: Historia, reflexiones y versiones especiales

El Garaje Hermético de Máximo Sant

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 3, 2020 24:16

Audi RS2 Avant (1994) 2. BMW M3 E30 (1986) 3. Citroën CX GTi Turbo 2 (1985) 4. Lancia Thema 8.32 Ferrari (1984) 5. Lotus Omega (1990) 6. Mercedes 190 2.3 16v (1984) 7. Mercedes 500 E (1990) 8. Peugeot 405 Mi 16 (1987) 9. Renault 25 V6 Turbo (1985) 10. Volvo 850 T5-R SW (1995) En este vídeo nuestro coche del día es el Volvo 850 T5-R SW. Envíanos tus consultas o sugerencias a info@garajehermetico.com.

What is your favorite generation of the BMW 3-Series? This is a question that has been asked in pubs, locker rooms, car shows, autocross events, and even some of the cooler dinner tables all over the world for the better part of the last 40 years. In this new podcast from Grease the Wheels, we break down the history of the BMW 3-Series from its company-saving and genre defining predecessor, to its most modern and slightly massive iteration. For the past 40 years, the preeminent contender for best driver’s car has in fact been a member of the BMW 3-Series. We talk about the 3-Series’ humble origins, creating the entire market segment of “sports sedan” and eventually taking part in one of the all time great market wars with Audi and Mercedes Benz. We also talk about the E30 culture, tax, cool swaps we’ve seen, and one of the all time great unsung heroes of motorsport. The BMW 3-Series has become the BMW that people get first, and when you have that spot in a company’s lineup it is immensely important to get it right. This only gets magnified when that company is in the highest echelons of the automotive industry. So how have they done? Well in short, pretty damn well! Critically the BMW 3-Series has been named a world’s best for years. They have continually expanded the lineup from just sedans to coupes, convertibles, and GT’s (because apparently everything needs to be a crossover). They have seen the end of carbureted engines and the growth of EFI, the end of naturally aspirated and the normalization of turbocharging, and you could get them in diesel and hybrid. Also Uncle Jimmy recalls an epic trick on Erik the Producer, we talk about common problems on almost every generation of 3-Series, and we drop a copious amount of our friends names. This special long format episode of Grease the Wheels is sponsored by Guten Parts. Whether you have an Audi, BMW, Mini, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Volvo, SAAB, Land Rover or Volkswagen Guten has the parts that you need. From my plucky E30 Felix to Uncle Jimmy’s twin turbo charged E90 and beyond, Guten parts has hundreds of thousands of parts in their catalogue! So how does Gutenparts.com keep that many parts straight for customers and not constantly be messing up orders? Well you make an extremely intuitive search function that lets you search by all of the normal stuff like make model and year, but also by trim levels which narrows searches down even more and lets them get you the right parts. You don't have to be a professional parts guy, you just have to know your car, and if you're listening to this odds are you probably do! And if you can't find it, shoot them an email or give them a call. They’re pretty cool folks and they're not going to ask you if your car is automatic or manual when you're buying wiper blades. How refreshing! And it's not going to take you months to get your parts because unlike a lot of those other guys, Guten parts has a live inventory and geolocation on all of their orders. That means Guten can same day your parts for any order placed by 2pm because they have warehouses all over the place. GutenParts.com goal is twofold. First, to be the marketplace for quality and unique items. Whether through their own production or by showcasing products from other sources, gutenparts.com is the destination for German car owners. Second, become the location for high quality cars, whether for routine maintenance or sky is the limit custom cars. So if you don't turn a wrench yourself, let the Service part of Guten Parts and service get your classic running right again. Also this episode was made possible by our patreon subscribers. If you loved this episode of Grease the Wheels consider going over to patreon.com/greasethewheels and kicking us a couple of bucks. Everyone has a bad day, and the same goes for car companies. The late 1990s and early 2000s were a really bad time for Mercedes-Benz, and they’ve recovered just fine. Do we think the same will happen to BMW?Or is the Bavarian company beyond repair? We thought VW was once beyond repair, but they’ve proved us wrong before. And Maserati has been having a bad day for the last 40 years.Let’s discuss. The Carmudgeon Show is a comedic, information-filled 25-minute conversation with Jason Cammisa and Derek Tam-Scott, two car enthusiasts who are curmudgeonly beyond their years. Proving you don’t have to be old to be grumpy, they spend each episode talking about what’s wrong with various parts of the automotive universe. Despite their best efforts to keep it negative, they usually wind up laughing, happy, and extolling their love for cars. Which just makes them angrier and more bitter. Jason Cammisa is an automotive journalist, social-media figure, and TV host with over 250 million views on YouTube alone. Jason’s deeply technical understanding, made possible by a lifelong obsession with cars, allows him to fully digest what’s going on within an automobile — and then put it into simple terms for others to understand. Also, a Master’s Degree in Law trained him to be impossible to argue with. Derek Tam-Scott still tries. He’s a young automotive expert with old-man taste in cars, and a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering — which means he knows how to be civil to Jason. Or at least he tries. With a decade and a half’s experience buying, selling, driving and brokering classic and exotic cars, he’s experienced the world’s most iconic cars. And hated most of them.

The major chloroplast envelope polypeptide is the phosphate translocator and not the protein import receptor

Biologie - Open Access LMU - Teil 02/02

DURING photosynthetic CO2 fixation, fixed carbon is exported from the chloroplasts in the form of triose phosphate by the chloroplast phosphate translocator, which is the principal polypeptide (E29) from spinach chloroplast envelopes1. We have sequenced this nuclear-coded envelope membrane protein from both spinach and pea chloroplasts2,3. An envelope membrane protein, E30, has been identified as a possible receptor for protein import into pea chloroplasts using an anti-idiotypic antibody approach4–6; antibodies raised against purified E30 inhibited binding and import of proteins into chloroplasts7. The amino-acid sequence of E30 deduced from its complementary DNA7 turned out to be highly homologous to that of E29, assigned by us as the spinach phosphate translocator2, and was identical to the corresponding polypeptide from pea chloroplasts3. Differences in the binding properties to hydroxylapatite of £30 and the phosphate translocator suggested that E30 was not responsible for the chloroplast phosphate-transport activity but was the chloroplast import receptor7. Here we present evidence that argues against this and which identifies E30 as the chloroplast phosphate translocator.
