Welcome to the Dialed In Podcast! Matt's finally back but he hasn't had a win in the last 2 weeks so he's feeling a little down. The E36 has him defeated along with every other project going on that is in a perpetual state of limbo. This is a quick one but as always Chris asks Matt questions from the Livestream, Facebook, and Instagram.

All Dad's at some point rock a mustache. Just as all 12 year old boys proudly wear their upper lip hair stubble to prove their manhood. All Fathers will have at some point channel their inner Ned Flanders and grow a mustache. I am not sure where there is such a strong correlation between facial hair and fathers, but in E36 we try to cover our favorite and most influential Dads with mustaches. Talking points:Mr. 3000 or Mr. Baseball, Tom Sellek, old Jordan commercials, Ditka out in the wild, different facial hair categories, what is your porn name, and Bystander Man pics. Si además no puedes o no quieres gastarte mucho dinero. ¿Qué viene a continuación? Bueno, ¡aún no hemos empezado! 9. Porsche Boxster 986 (1996).

¡no acertáis!

This episode discusses the start of Winter Beater 2.0. If you aren't familiar with the original winter beater series....well check it out: (link: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTa--Z7RAbpIrnDFM7JcTcLjMecg2UfEa)But first, the daily ramblings. Both Will and Dave weren't able to record today, so Mike and Kevin had ECS lead tech extraordinaire Matt Contillo on. He kicks off the the daily ramblings with his purchase of a beat MK2 Golf that he purchased for Winter Beater 2.0. He discusses how he purchased a rooftop tent for his 4Runner that he installed and the trials of having to go down a ladder with a 80 l.b. german shepherd down the letter when it needs to pee at 3am. He also goes over his love for gaming afterwork and how the Game 'Destiny' released a puzzle to decode using GIFS. Last weekend, Kevin went to a EHE Recycling in Michigan (https://www.facebook.com/eherecycling/) to pick up some parts for his E36 and had some sick creations to look at. He also got all the plywood on the walls and is thinking about painting it or at least putting primer on. Mike is working on his motorcycle carb replacing Audi CIS project. He cleaned all the carbs with a heavy cleaner and also cut the Audi intake in half to try to get them to fit. He also replaced the brake booster in the X5 which blew a weak brake line. Hey whats up everybody? Welcome to Episode 36 of The Halving Report with your host, Brad Mines. The price of Bitcoin is about $15,500.00 US dollars, or $21,100.00 CDN dollars at the time of this recording. There is about 1275 days or 42 months until the 2024 halving. If you play your cards right, you can benefit from the current Bitcoin cycle and anticipated bull run.Go to www.thehalvingreport.com to find out more, and check out all affiliate links and bonuses. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to direct message us on Twitter or Instagram.Recently, someone said to me that until Bitcoin is accepted by the government and institutions, they will continue to use the current system. The article https://u.today/jpmorgan-says-institutions-ditching-gold-etfs-for-bitcoin shows that it IS accepted by governments and institutions, and you just have to do a little more research. IMO, due to the characteristics that make Bitcoin valuable, eventually all governments will accept cryptocurrencies. I also think getting into Bitcoin just a few years earlier can make all the difference in your life. Just think, if the stock-to-flow model is accurate, Bitcoin is said to go 10x every 4 years. How much inflation does the dollar see over 4 years? Can we ever actually know that true figure? I think Jason Williams of Going Parobolic recent tweet said it best:"If you don't have Bitcoin in your portfolio right now slap yourself."Thank you all for listening to E36 of The Halving Report podcast. Roland Hahn is our guest for this episode with Ann Moran occasionally chiming in throughout the episode. Roland has been racing since the 80’s and has probably completed more races than we have laps (which is not really that much of an exaggeration). Some fascinating stories and history that will help you and your team in the next race. On this episodes Dominating with Dawson, we go over Racing in the Rain. No, not the book, how to do it and how to enjoy it more. We hope you enjoy this episode! Best regards, Vicki, Jennifer, Alan, and Bill Hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training Podcast and Garage Heroes In Training racing team drivers Highlights from this episode include: 1) What Roland has learned at his last 875 or so races in all types of cars and racing. Yes, 875+ races and counting. 2) How he found his “home” in endurance racing and how endurance racing has changed since he first started at Nelson Ledges in 1987. 3) Race prep, racing practices, and safety equipment have apparently changed dramatically (for the better) since the 80’s. 4) Some team history about how Roland first met Ann and their current team began about two years ago, as well as how Ann began racing and met Roland. 5) Vicki somehow manages to bring Xena into the podcast. Still puzzled by how that fit into the discussion, twice, but it somehow fit, and led to a discussion of Vicki meeting Roland for the first time when he was in drag at NHMS last year. 6) Things Roland has learned to do and perhaps even more importantly things not to do over his racing career. 7) How Roland and Ann found their current BMW E36 and their thoughts about racing it and E36’s in general. 8) Post race “hangovers”, even if you don’t drink, are real. Especially if you race as often as Roland and Ann did last year. 9) We compare our relative “Hot Mess” levels and performance at the recent Charlotte race with Lucky Dog. 10) Roland does his best Karnac impression over a brake light switch at the Charlotte race. 11) The Dip Stick disaster that was Charlotte Roval and a really good title to a TV show episode. 12) How the two races at Charlotte went for their team. It was a bit of a battle for a long time, but in the end, it seems to have worked out well in the 10-hour race. This illustrates a series of the type of things that an endurance team can run into any weekend. The impossible is not impossible, but merely unlikely. The more laps raced, the more probably it becomes. 13) How Roland employed his experience and knowledge to survive a bit better than most on Sunday. 17 hours of racing at the Charlotte Roval was pretty hard on all the cars that were there, especially with the heavy breaking required for the Roval. 14) Jen does not share Roland’s preference for concrete canyon race tracks. Maybe with time, but definitely not at the moment. 15) Roland was very impressed with racing with Lucky Dog and with his level of experience, impressing him is not the easiest thing to do. Especially impressive considering the COVID related conditions and the team not having its full team at the event. More grown up but still playful is a great way to put it. 16) Roland was kind enough to go into some of the race prep areas and philosophy he tries to employ for every race. He may write a book someday. We can’t wait. Roland, do you need an editor or a co-writer? We know a guy. 17) ALWAYS learn something at every single race or you aren't really paying attention. 18) Succinctly put, we need a Roland. Every team does. We will be asking questions of him, often. Since he listens to our podcast, we are sure we have caused him to laugh out loud many times. Lol. 19) Tips to improve as a driver abound throughout this episode. 20) Roland provides the definitive answer to the long fought over question that torments the internet on a daily basis. Where do you put the transponder on the car to get the faster lap or to win at the finish line. You are welcome. (and we are sure the arguments will continue long into the future anyway)
On this week's episode of CAD to CARS, we have TWO special guest. The guys welcome back Shane Vallen to shoot the shit and we debut Matt Contillo, the lead R&D tech at ECS Tuning. But first, the daily ramblings. Mike goes over the transmission situation in his Dodge Ram Truck, he is rebuilding the old one but bought a new one for later. Shane mentions how drivers have a hard time driving when it rains, his E36 started smoking so he pulled the spark plugs, swapped fluids and did a compression test, which wasn't recommended. Matt Contillo introduces himself and how he got into cars. CAD to CARS has its own YouTube Channel! On this episode, we review the entire race weekend at the Charlotte Roval for our Lucky Dog endurance race. The first race started Friday night and ended Saturday morning. The second race was a 10-hour enduro that started at noon Sunday. It was our first time at Charlotte Motor Speedway, our first time at a big oval track, and our first race of the year. How hard could it be? What could go wrong? We found a few things. Luckily, we had several friends and new friends at the track to help us work through the problems and we all had a great racing weekend. On our Dominating with Dawson segment, we start to discuss the progression of driving skill and driving styles as you improve, moving from the introductory stages where you try to limit your inputs to one at a time and how to progress safely to where you begin to use and work towards mastering multiple inputs and more advanced techniques like trail braking etc. There is a lot to discuss and we are sure to add more to this area in future segments. We hope you enjoy this episode! Best regards, Vicki, Jennifer, Alan, and Bill Hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training Podcast and Garage Heroes In Training racing team drivers Highlights from this episode include: 1) The two new car themes/liveries for our E36 "Deadpool" race car and our "'Dat Tang Truck" citrus racing truck. Several pictures will be on our website. 2) Mechanical car prep saga for the race. 3) Vicki and Jen drove the E36 BMW 3 series race car for the first time on track. we cover their first impressions from Friday's practice and the races. 4) Our issues with both cars. In summary, our race truck had issues with the power steering pump and hit a cone that tore off the oil line and also had issue with the mass air flow sensor. Our E36 had an intermittent problem with the fuel pump and then tried to converse with one of the walls ending its weekend. 5) Our thoughts on the Charlotte Roval and driving on the high banked turns, the chicanes, and the infield "mushroom" track of the Roval. 6) Vicki finally experienced her first use of controlled slip angle during her stint as she progressively got faster and more comfortable with the E36 race car Friday night. 7) The Bad Hombre/El Jeffe race truck experienced a brake fade issue, again, and was down on power until the issue with the mass air flow sensor was addressed (on Sunday) 8) How the weekend went for our two guest drivers from the west coast from Deaf Power Racing, Jeff Wright and Lonnie Tanenburg. 9) Jen's accident going into turn 8. We are waiting for Deadpool to regenerate. Video on our YouTube channel and on our website on the post for this episode. 10) How Jen is feeling after her accident and what the prognosis is for the rest of her season. 11) We had a little fun picking on the vultures next to us picking the bones off the E36 carcass. Lol. 12) What we should do about replacing the E36. 13) How we are going to treat the video like the Zapruder film and figure out what happened and what we can learn from the incident. 14) We invent a new drinking game for this episode where you drink once for every time Race Bar is referred to as brilliant and/or somehow helps us get back out onto the track. Try it. Our podcast only gets better with drinking. 15) Jeff Caplan from Race Bar took a run for an hour in our race truck and even with power steering issues and being at less than full power, he seemed to really enjoy the race truck. 16) We came. We saw. We were conquered. 17) Bill is still working on getting all the names straight on the Race Bar team, since each of them seems to have at least three names. Lol. 18) Racing at night and on the high banks, we looked just like NASCAR, just at half speed, lol. 19) Our racing and HPDE plans for the rest of 2020. 20) Our traditional Good, Bad, and the Ugly for the weekend, as well as what we learned and several changes we may need to make going forward to improve. 21) Cue the Kenny Loggins.... 22) Jennifer may have the best and shortest responses to her Bad and Ugly ever. What are our plans going forward to replace the E36? What do you think we should do? Please let us know what you think we should do in a comment or ideally in a podcast review or email us at GarageHeroesInTraining@gmail.com
Audi RS2 Avant (1994) 2. BMW M3 E30 (1986) 3. Citroën CX GTi Turbo 2 (1985) 4. Lancia Thema 8.32 Ferrari (1984) 5. Lotus Omega (1990) 6. Mercedes 190 2.3 16v (1984) 7. Mercedes 500 E (1990) 8. Peugeot 405 Mi 16 (1987) 9. Renault 25 V6 Turbo (1985) 10. Volvo 850 T5-R SW (1995) En este vídeo nuestro coche del día es el Volvo 850 T5-R SW. Envíanos tus consultas o sugerencias a info@garajehermetico.com.
Jen, Vicki, and Bill review how the NASA Great Lakes HPDE event at PittRace went last weekend. It is our team's most anticipated HPDE event of the year and we were not disappointed. Jennifer had our friend Chris as her instructor for the entire weekend and it showed as she progressed dramatically through the event in her ND Miata. Vicki was also in HPDE 1 with another friend Jim as her student partner and also learned a ton, especially related to weight transfer in her NB Miata. Bill was in the HPDE 2 group with both Chrissy and Jeff in the E36 race car and the stock Toyota 86 for this weekend. With COVID 19 controls in place, there was no right seat driving instruction option, but NASA Great Lakes is continually learning, adapting, and responding with improvements that allow for a great amount of instruction for every student. The Dominating with Dawson segment for this episode was initially in the area of coasting but we quickly wandered off into proper use and application of the throttle and aspects of controlled or over controlled track driving as opposed to pushing the limit and getting out of a comfort zone. We hope you enjoy the episode! Best regards, Bill, Vicki, Jennifer, and Alan Hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training podcast and team members in the GHiT Immature Endurance Racing Team Highlights from the episode include: 1) Our group of 7 brought 7 cars with us and Chris did his best Randy Pobst impersonation by driving almost every one of them during the weekend. 2) Our teams struggle with car preparation and timing continued and we agree they must be addressed going forward. 3) Jen, Vicki, and Bill all had goals going into the event, largely as we discussed after our last HPDE at GingerMan several weeks ago. 4) Track learning/prep is very important to allow us to focus on our driving and not be distracted by "learning" the track at the same time for a new to us track 5) We discuss the Saturday event and the Sunday event and how we did not prepare our meals as well as normally because we were way behind. Sorry to our camp sharing friends. 6) Vicki converts Jen's RV sink into a disposal, for a short time. 7) We compare and contrast HPDE 1 and HPDE 2 from this event. 8) We individually cover the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly from the event 9) Vicki "surveyed" the track extensively after turn 10 during her spin on Saturday. Vicki did get to wave to Jennifer as she drove by a bit later. 10) Chrissy, Vicki, and Chris encountered a handling issue on the NB Miata that was easily fixed by adjusting the adjustable shocks in the rear. Who knew? PS We are sorry for not listening to you earlier Chrissy. 11) Jen solved her downshifting issue going into a turn that has plagued her to this point. This was solved by slowing down by letting out the clutch, especially on track. The best part is that Jennifer can also practice this on the street during her daily driving. 12) Jennifer failed miserably by not getting her training partner over to our podcast. Lol. 13) We learned a lot from this event both about our prep and our driving. 14) Bill admits we have too many cars and need to downsize significantly. 15) Vicki summarizes our teams learning and progress to this point. 16) Vicki's "ah ha" moment included understanding weight transfer and improving her down shifting/sequencing going into turns. Hopefully, this will help when she races a front wheel drive car again. 17) Jennifer's "ah ha" moment included shifting and especially downshifting and actually her hearing tires "sing" through the turns for the first time ever on track. 18) Bill's "ah ha" moments included 1) Bringing Lemons "skills" and HPDE "skills" together into a complimentary driving style utilizing both, 2) Comparison and E36 race car and the Toyota 86 street car, and 3) How significant the difference between sticker tires and scuffed tires. We won't be sending any of our newer drivers out on track with sticker tires ever. 19) Vicki did not get out onto the track in the E36 BMW race car due to an accident in the prior session closing the track on Sunday prematurely. 20) Some of the advantages of lead follow and some of the difficulties we saw. NASA Great Lakes addressed these by actually switching the lead follow to what is essentially a switch of the cars into a "follow - Lead" where the student is in front of the instructor at several points. 21) Goals for our next HPDE event for each of us.

John Lavin joined us from the Safety 3rd Motorsports racing team for a great discussion of his racing and team history, including how his background in racing snowmobiles, motorcycles, and snowboarding has led to and helped with his racing cars. His team started with an initial car that was intended for Lemons but ended up being a second gen Supra that was better fitting into an episode of Better Call Saul and ended up in ChampCar and started with the usual issues and tremendous stories as his team grew. The team is currently running in several ChampCar events each year, as well as several other organizations in multiple divisions. We are hoping to talk John into letting us attend one of their upcoming races to learn more, if they will have us. Please follow them on Instagram at Safety3rdMotorsports. In our Dominating with Dawson segment, we go into racing in the rain and while some complain, it’s really actually better in many ways for learning and definitely should not be skipped or avoided. We hope you enjoy the episode! Best regards, Bill, Vicki, Jennifer, and Alan Hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training podcast and team members in the GHiT Immature Endurance Racing Team Highlights from the episode include: 1) Sharing the pain of herding cats as the team manager’s primary role. 2) It appears John's path is similar to Bill’s, just executed much better. 3) VIR gets another big endorsement, and it wasn’t from Ben this time. 4) First race stories for the team, a true 24-hour race at VIR. 5) Why they eventually switched from a Supra to a BMW to the annoyance of all the Fast and Furious fans. 6) Racing is really a situation of management by crisis, we agree and couldn’t have said it any better. 7) Several discussions on the differences and benefits of a racing school, as compared to HPDE’s and track days. 8) A comparison of ChampCar and the Lemons series, with a bit about AER as well. 9) How the teams racing philosophy has changed as they have become faster and a bit more competitive. 10) A very good discussion on transitioning a team from having run racing a car to racing to compete. A challenge our team is likely approaching. 11) We offer our excellent BBQ rub and BBQ sauce for some of their secret sauce, so far to no avail, lol. 12) Practicing at track days vs learning from an instructor and several other benefits of instruction. 13) A discussion on the various aspects of car control, what it is and several techniques that can be used to improve it. 14) The everlasting rumor of Lime Rock closing has reached Vicki for the first time. 15) John even sneaks in a discussion of the modern style racing line for Lime Rock. 16) Since John’s team races an E36, we can't help but discuss some of his thoughts on the E36 setups and even more importantly how to evaluate and develop them for yourself or when using a shop to assist. 17) We even went into more depth around tire temperature and tire pressure and tire selection. 18) A dual team meetup is preliminarily in the works and sounds like it will be great fun! Still working on the Baja road trip invitation though. Lol. 19) Bill tries to talk John into lowering his standards and joining us for a race or for weekend racing fun. Still TBD to see if John is capable of making a decision that bad. 20) John was even gracious in acknowledging our difficulty with the rear hub bearing a few weeks back. We may even be able to replace the control arm Bill broke after our quarantine ends. 21) Towards the end, we even went into team HPDE and team bonding ideology that are helpful to all levels of teams.
After months of badgering, we finally weakened Amanda Tully enough to where she agreed to come onto our podcast. After a disappointing 2019 where she finished 2nd, 1st, 1st, and 1st, we couldn't wait to hear what she was going to do to improve this year, LOL. Actually, it was a great pleasure to catch up with her and learn about her racing history and how she and her team came to dominate the east coast races last year. Amanda also discussed with us her recent transition to sim racing and we all shared some of our growing pains, as well as a lot of the fun we are having while home. Vicki was able to put on her Amanda t-shirt and fangirl for the entire episode. It was an unintended coincidence that she appeared in episode 111, but it fit with their results from last season. On this episode of Dominating with Dawson, Ben covers what to do if you have an incident on the track to minimize the effect on your day, and your car. We hope you enjoy the episode! Best regards, Bill, Vicki, Jennifer, and Alan Hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training podcast and team members in the GHiT Immature Endurance Racing Team Highlights from the episode include: 1) How we first met Amanda and her team at our first ever race at NJMP in 2018. 2) How Vicki and Amanda bonded at NHMS in the 3PM overflowing hot tub last year. 3) How Amanda progressed from full newbie racer with HPDE experience to her current successes in Lemons. It all started with the lure of the fun $500 race car. Her experiences indicate that even we may eventually get good at this, we shall see. 4) Amanda may have helped Bill with the "what spares should we bring" discussions that we always seem to have. Since Amanda said it, Vicki may finally agree. We shall see. 5) We try to dissect the "issues" that led to her low performance of the year at Pittsburgh last year where they "only" finished in second place. But they did win the "I Got Screwed" Award. 6) How HPDE and especially her past motorcycle HPDE track days may have influenced her driving style, as well as her skill. 7) We tried getting some more info related to Amanda's latest car for Lemons. it's still super secret, but we know it is coming. Rumor has it that we may even be able to pass her team once this year. 8) Amanda and Bill try to help Vicki with her nervousness in joining the races. Both shared some of there best/poorest i-Racing performances so far. 9) We also discuss several similarities and differences we are seeing in sim racing and our more normal meat world racing. Peripheral vision, lack/different G force feedback, tire grip/physics, and various software settings seem to not be helping any of us at this point. Still having fun though. 10) Sim racing: It's the same, but it's not. 11) Vicki displays a story about why testing on Fridays should not be optional, especially if it's your first time at a track. 12) Amanda was even kind enough to go into what she would recommend to improve your performance and fun at a race. It is all fairly simple, but very important things that she has learned from others and through personal experience. 13) Brandon and Kelly both get a quick shut out. Kelly, you need to come out on track. 14) We also continue our continuing discussion on in car data and lap timing. Amanda is pretty firm in her position and her opinion isn't going to change any time soon. Pursuit of a fast lap time has hurt her team's performance in the race so many times. It is far more important to get all your laps similar and all your drivers as close as possible. 15) Our mutual friends in the Folgers car get another shout out. 16) Bill bonds with Amanda on spares and tools for the track. Vicki still seems less than enthused. 17) Amanda is not a fan of our RS4 tire use but prefers the Azenis 615's. We think it may be worth a retry at some point. Maybe she will borrow or test ours. Once we find a few more BMW 8.5" * 17" DSII rims (or DS2). 18) We need to see if there are any cars that Amanda likes besides her E36 and E92. There has to be at least one. 19) We even bond over our poor i-Racing seats. 20) We joke around about a recent i-Racing event with the Three Pedal Mafia at the expense of our great friends Jeff and Mental.
Phil Wurz, fellow racing driver and the short straw drawing team member at BimmerWorld was kind enough to join us for a discussion on his racing history and add to our Usual Suspects discussion related to racing BMW, especially E36's and E46's, including a good amount about Spec E46. Phil has been with BimmerWorld since 2007 and conducted this interview from in front of his E30 race car, one of the best backgrounds we have had during our podcast. BimmerWorld supplies a very wide variety of parts and also prepares cars for racing in two national GT4 series. During this episode we learn a bit about Phil and his driving history as well as his thoughts on racing BMW's across may types of racing and what can be done to improve performance, handling, and reliability. To follow along with Phil and the team at BimmerWorld, please like their Facebook page or email them from the website where everyone's company email is available. On Dominating with Dawson, Ben discusses all of the wide variety of types of racing apexes, and how best to think about approaching a turn and what considerations can affect the desired approach for each turn. We hope you enjoy the episode! Best regards, Bill, Vicki, Jennifer, and Alan Hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training podcast and team members in the GHiT Immature Endurance Racing Team Highlights from the episode include: 1) His philosophy on replacing and upgrading as you grow and learn with your car 2) Vicki shockingly brings up the E36 rear wheel bearing removal and then won't let anyone ask any questions for a bit. Well, really, much more than a bit. 3) Alan "compliments" Bill on his skills with using the press on the rear bearing and finally admits his running away from the operation once the slide hammer came into the picture. 4) Bill impersonates the sound of the control arm breaking in the press. 5) Alan calls Bill an Axle, by mistake/mispronunciation. 6) Alan admits to adding a bit more wear and tear, since he is the mechanic. 7) Alan gets very excited over Phil's tow vehicle and that leads into the area of an upcoming flat nose school bus "ramp truck", potentially with a rear airbag suspension. 8) Our first podcast that is interrupted with the sounds of freedom. Mental likely scheduled it to mess with us. 9) We then walk through where the current sweet spot is for BMW's in terms of value, performance, and parts availability. We even compare the E36 vs the E46 which seem to be swarming the endurance racing fields. Yes, we are guilty. 10) Stunningly, and fir the first time, Alan hears that it's not necessary to drive at 10 tenths all the time. We shall see if it helps. 11) Vicki learns what a money shift is without costing us an engine. And Alan breaks out the FNG acronym in honor of the Three Pedal Mafia trip to Laguna Seca. 12) A good review of the growing Spec E46 series and other uses for these cars, as well as some of the advantages of spec classes, especially for people relatively new to racing and setting up of a race car. 13) Vicki requests a spare Spec E46 car for the team. Bill is currently searching on Autotempest. 14) Bill was bored and added some new questions to the Fast and The Furious questions 15) We are still looking for a good LSD solution for our M240i and Bill Begs for a spare E36 rear control arm, for a friend of course. 16) In the after credits B roll, Phil mentions a tool to remove the rear wheel bearing from an E36. Where was that when we needed it. Well, actually, we still need it. And Bill begs for some spare E36 rear control arms. For a friend. We hope to see Phil at the Charlotte Roval with Lucky Dog on the weekend of August 14-16.
Ben Liaw from Rogue Engineering was kind enough to come on this week's podcast. Ben races and also supports his racing clients at Rogue Engineering in Upper Saddle River, NJ, where they not only assist with race car prep and on track support but design and manufacture many parts improvements for many BMW models. Also, on this week's Dominating with Dawson, we went over driving a new to you race car and what you should do prior to driving and how best to acclimate to the new vehicle. Highlights from this week's episode include: 1) Stories of how his business grew from designing and manufacturing to mechanical and racing assistance 2) Some thoughts on car prep for racing 3) A great discussion of various BMW models that are used in racing, including strengths and areas where you may want to augment the stock parts and systems. Most 3 series models were discussed including the E30, E36, E46, E92 as well as the more modern F series models, as well as a few 1 and 2 series models and Mini's, including relative strengths and weaknesses between them. 4) Our first real discussion about the AER endurance racing series 5) Potential upgrades for racing our M240i 6) Spec E46 race cars and priority the addition of upgrades, including the subframe issue 7) Bill gets into a discussion while Vicki has computer issues 8) Alan picks Ben's brain throughout while he also goes shopping while we are recording "for Vicki" lol 9) Bill put Ben in an unfair spot to compare BMW's to other typical cars, like Boxsters/Caymans and Miata/MX-5's etc. Ben, you have our apologies. 10) Vicki wanted to appeal to Ben for any assistance with her latest E36 rear wheel hub and bearing replacement project/debacle. Ben offered his typical preventive maintenance program for hubs and bearings for his AER endurance racing. 11) We even go into critical spares and critical spare philosophy and the potential tradeoff vs pre-race prep 12) Several Dante references and a new level called "Wheel Bearing Hell". Vicki views this as the hidden 8th level. 13) Rogue Engineering's incredibly smart wheel studs with a hex end on both ends in case of a sheared stud 14) Bill finds a brand of power tools where he is fully qualified, and even Alan agrees To contact Ben and his team or follow along with their various exploits, you can go to their website at https://www.rogueengineering.com/ or follow them on Instagram at Rogue Engineering. Our podcast this week focuses on our race weekend at NHMS with the 24 Hours of Lemons teams. We had a bit of a struggle getting ready, but the cars eventually cooperated and raced well, at least for a bit. In the end, we had a great time and caught up with a lot of friends and made several new ones this weekend. On this episode, Alan, Jennifer, Kate, Vicki and Bill are still recuperating from the race weekend hangover, but did manage to discuss: Vicki learns the alphabet, finally. Pre-race prep and race car struggles. We broke the first rule of racing and brought an non-prepped car to the track El Jeffe/The Bad Hombre/The Trophy Truck/Race Truck was finished literally hours before the race. The E36 BMW struggle did not complete until midday Friday afternoon when our great friend Bruce figured out a simple electrical issue that we could not find on our own We had to pick up a windshield, which was in Canada Bill learns to not joke with the border police Normal race induced issues led to a lot of on track repairs and replacement for the race truck, especially related to our steering, power steering, and steering rack. SpiderStang was almost brought into race trim since we had all hands on deck and needed two cars We rolled the dice and brought the E36 to the track and hoped we could fix it with the aide of our friends in the paddock area Friday testing went well with El Jeffe and we were able to get almost all of our new to NHMS drivers Jennifer clears all prior NHMS demons from last year Kate enjoys her first time on this track and then promptly has internet issues in mid story Jennifer is very excited and saw many benefits of the Watkins Glen HPDE we sent to two weeks ago. We may finally have solved our braking issue with the El Jeffe race truck Bill creates a new word for the dictionary Bruce saved our team having to get another engine and perform and engine swap by solving our issue and getting the engine in the E36 to fire. Bill confirms that by fire, they meant to get it running and not that it had caught on fire. Special thanks to the Thunder for Days team in their Folgers E36 BMW for all their assistance as well. Apparently, they travel with an entire parts tore worth of spare parts to each race. Thankfully. And Wisely. We owe you all. Our one time only Guitar Heroes In Training Theme for this race Vicki confuses AC/DC and Kiss somehow Mia tormented Craggier as the Plague Doctor all weekend Several other teams were theming hard this weekend including appearances by the Three Pedal Mafia’s Ambiguously Gay Duo themed new Pontiac Solstice and the entire gang that represented Baby Shark. Jennifer’s costume was very helpful in getting our cars to have no penalty laps Harley Quinn and the harlequin GTI were also a big hit, ad it was quite fast on the track. We had a run on power steering pumps for the race truck this weekend, using three total, and we also lost the steering rack/box We then run through the race for the race truck and then for the E36 race car NHMS this year was the most aggressive race we have been in and there were many incidents, especially Saturday We also had a Guest driver this weekend, Jeff Wright, who we met at our Lucky Dog race in Portland this summer. We hope he had a great time. His smiles Our wheel spacers led to tire tracking issues in the El Jeffe race truck We eventually (think) we lost the steering rack and had some steering difficulty that eventually led to the race truck parking for the last half of Sunday Jennifer gets here first black flag in the race truck Bill ran first in the E36 on Saturday and raced with several of our friends on the track for long periods of time We peaked at 5th place overall, our highest position ever. Now we need to figure out how to stay there for the whole weekend. We learn that there are two different style safety harnesses/safety belts Saturday night dinner and post-race festivities Vicki finally meets her girl crush, Amanda Tully, in full costume, in the Three Pedal Mafia’s hot tub, built for 4, but somehow managed to squeeze in 9 that evening. Hopefully, we will have her on as a future guest. The festivities went long into the night. Alan eventually gets into a on race CSI investigation that gets edited out a bit. Vicki proves that numbers are hard We end up talking all over each other during the review of Alan’s Sunday stint The Egan’s new car modifications led to a lot of fun but also a lot more gas usage We ended our day in the BMW E36 when we lost either a wheel bearing and/or a hub Team improvements for next year were abundant Radios for each team member if possible Earlier starting prep on race day morning with more people Training matrix will be developed and monitor our progress towards overall team knowledge and skill improvement for next year and the future New Pit Crew Chief election for 2010 season is very likely Spares parts for the BMW for next season On site car alignment verification capability within our team We begin planning our off season and our 2020 season, including re-theming several cars for the 2020 Thank you to all our friends, we cant wait to see you again next season!
Please vote for Vicki A https://www.intechtrailers.com/max-the-tach# NHMS race weekend prep status. One race, two cars, neither working. The rest is good though. On one hand we have the BMW E36 3 series from 1998. Issues, yes. It won’t start. It seems to not be getting power to the computer system and won’t turn over. We found one wiring issue and are tracking down any others, slowly. One good thing is that the prior owners live very close to our race, so as a last resort, we may ask for some assistance. El Jeffe/The Bad Hombre: Braking issues abound. Still. The caliper/pads do not fully release from the rotors, which may be the issue we have been battling this entire season. On this episode: Alan breaks up into a game of boggle with things like DME, EWS2, etc. Vicki breaks back in and tries to get us to explain what is going on Bill breaks down the entire battle we have been having with the brakes on the race truck El Jeffe brake theories, plan, and a review of the current status An El Jeffe Transit story for the books Alan talks about flashing ECU’s and seeking additional help to get the E36 running well again. Alan does his best weatherman impression and forecasts clear skies for the E36 Kate even makes a quick guest appearance towards the end It seems to be a standard week before the race. Now will this turn out? Tune in tomorrow, same bat channel, same bat time. Or actually when we record at the track this weekend.
Chris Egan is our special guest driver from the Futility Motorsports endurance racing team. We last saw Chris at the 24 Hours of Lemons race at Thompson. We review his lemons racing history as well as the team’s recent over-temp issues at their last race. Chris started racing with a Shelby Daytona and somehow he is still going (with the Futility Motorsport Saab). Chris has also raced in several HPDE’s and tried his hand at autocross. Chris races with his family (father, brother, and sister) and is shooting for a top 20 overall. Chris covers why the Daytona is no longer the team vehicle and how the 250k mile Saab came to be a race car. We also talk about the pressures and responsibilities of being a square on the E1R bingo card and the history of the “Young Chris Egan” moniker. Chris is a mechanical engineer who has a penchant for following in the steps of Rube Goldberg, so he fits right into the lemons paddock. A natural born tinkerer in all areas, we also go over the recent intercom system that Chris has been working on and developing. As expected, Bill had no shame and requested a test model for our upcoming HPDE at Watkins Glenn. The conversation led to many different areas of discussion, including: HPDE vs racing vs autocross comparisons in learning and experience on track driving and improving your ability to read and predict other drivers, both on and off the track. Chris recalls several of the wild and crazy things he has seen both on and off the track at a lemons race, including a burning man themed paddock Vicki and Chris talk about making their own tracks at NHMS by not going up the hill. Chris seems to have worse luck at NHMS than we do. Lots of trial by fire and learning what “to do” and what “not to do”. Building an old Toronado in Jahn Pagels shop with Spank the night before the Sonoma race. We make a challenge for a twin-engine car driven by two stick shifts. (one single clutch would be acceptable) We also go through a quick math problem with Alan over the plusses (time) and minuses (laps) of his recent red mist collection of black flags. We also go round and round on what we are doing with the El Jeffe race truck brake heating issues and the Capri engine/transmission swap with input from Chris Chris get subjected to a Good, Bad, and the Ugly review of his racing career/history. We make a bet between Chris and Alan on who finishes their project car first (getting the engine to fire). Who do you think will win? Chris and his E36 or Alan with the 3.8 liter Capri swap. Biggest takeaway: Finish the work on the car as soon as possible, not just in time for the race. How many other racing podcasts would also have a Wacky Racers reference in the flow of the conversation?
This episode is dedicated to our friend Aaron Leinemann. He has had some unexpected bad medical news and a GoFundMe page has been started to assist. Please share whatever you can to assist Aaron and his amazing family. Link at the end. On this episode, our team reviews the 2019 24 Hours of Lemons race GP du Lac Chargoggagogg(etcetera) AT Thompson Speedway in Northeastern Connecticut. We entered our Race Truck “El Jeffe” a 2004 Chevy S-10 with many Isuzu Hombre body panels and our new to us 1998 BMW E36 3-series car for our first race with it after buying it about two weeks prior. El Jeffe was updated from the former Stan Lee livery to and Avengers Endgame livery and the E36 was quickly themed in the paddock to be a Captain America car. We review Friday practice and spend most of the episode covering the race on Saturday and Sunday. Highlights include: New Drivers, several first timers at Thompson Thompson track walk and review Saturday and Sunday within El Jeffe Saturday and Sunday in the BMW E36 El Jeffe brake issues and a potential fix and path forward to alleviate this ongoing problem.

Blake has been drifting for a few years developing his E36 to what it is today. Hear all about him, his build, and how a grassroots driver wants to see where he stacks up in a pro am setting. This is a part one episode and we'll be touching base with him at the end of his season to see what happened.

In this episode, brought to you by Xtreme Xperience, everyone else interrupts Mental, Mental drinks some Thunderbird and thinks a ThunderBird will dominate, Jeff doesn't burn his house down, Chris claims the Patriots will dominate, and Chrissy thinks everyone else is wrong. We discuss news and notes, what we are working on, and we talk about the upcoming Lemons season opener at Barber. The 4 of us will be driving in an E36, a T-Bird, and a Volvo on a great track, and then watching the Superbowl after.
We have two guests in the studio today; Nikolas and Lawrence from Saké Clan, a great local Toronto area car community that thrives off being different from the norm. We touch on JDM cars, Lawrence's Subaru Impreza, and what we all hope to buy next in our stables. We talk about the BMW M240i and how it has evolved from its predecessors, and this brings Nikolas to talk about his history with the E36 3-series chassis. Tune in!
On this episode, Mac breaks down the differences between the Euro-spec E36 and how Americans got the short end, as well as discusses pricing and how gray market vehicles could soon play a factor in future buying decisions.
Join Damon, Dante, and Collin (no Tatum) driving to purchase our ChumpCar. It’s a 1992 BMW 325i, fully prepared E36 race car. We discuss why we chose to race ChumpCar with a BMW E36. We give some background on our high performance driving experience.
---------- Podcast: onroaders.com/podcast Hemsida: onroaders.com Facebook: facebook.com/onroaders Instagram:
