Has any automotive facelift ever made a car better than its original design? This episode of the Carmudgeon show is sponsored by Lucid Motors, who has special lease and finance offers on available 2023 models of the Lucid Air Touring and Grand Touring. Visit lucidmotors.com for offer details. What Carmudgeon episode would complete without a discussion of Bruno Sacco's Mercedes masterpieces, including the W201, W124, W140, and R129? Then, there's the Ferrari lineage: 246 Dino to 308 GTB to 328 GTB to 348 tb to F355. And perhaps the most successful facelift ever, the Bangle-Butt BMW E65/E66 7-series — which was vastly more successful in showrooms after BMW"s "LCI," or "Life Cycle Impulse," BMW-speak for a facelift. There's the Mk1 Volkswagen Golf, with the Clipper Kit Cabriolet and the Citi versions, the BMW E30, the Jaguar Series III to XJ40 to X300 to X308. And what if all the Radwood-era cars only got prettier because of relaxed and harmonized bumper standards, like the W116 Mercedes S-Class did when it was replaced with the W126. Discussed is also the Lamborghini Countach, Renault R5 Turbo, Lancia Integrale and Evo. And of course the Ferrari Testarossa Monospecchio, turned into the Testarossa, the 512TR, and ultimately 512M. How about BMW's prime era of the E38 and E39 and E46? The original Chevrolet Cavalier? The ovoid Taurus? Or just the Miata NC Miata, in NC1, NC2, and NC3 revisions? It's all an interesting discussion and a fun brain-dump from two curmudgeonly car experts, one of whom probably needs a facelift himself soon. === The Carmudgeon Show is part of the Hagerty Podcast Network. In today's PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 81 of Owner Stories with Wyatt from Tulsa, Oklahoma in the U.S. Wyatt's first memory of Porsche is from the 2006 movie ‘Cars' and the Porsche named ‘Sally'. His dad at the time explained to him that the engine was in the rear which he thought was cool. This will set the scene for you. Wyatt is the youngest owner to date to be on Owner Stories. Wyatt's passion and love of cars began at an early age and thanks to his dad Wyatt knows how to work on cars. He likes classics and project cars. Wyatt sees the value where others may not. His first car was a 1992 Volvo 740 station wagon, it was a cheap car, a beater but allowed Wyatt to drive which he loves doing. After the Volvo came a ‘95 BMW 318is, a car he still owns. Wyatt was drawn to Porsche by its shape, especially the 944 and 928, so in 2017 he started searching on Craigslist. The first 944 he found he walked away from but not the second. At 19 Wyatt purchased his first Porsche a ‘95 944 in white with manual transmission. Other cars followed including a '74 BMW 2002, his dad's car which Wyatt really like driving, a cheap '87 BMW E30 325e, 1977 BMW E21 320i and a very slow 83' Mercedes 240D. In 2019 Wyatt purchased a new 124 Abarth spider with his first pay from working on airplanes. A year later Wyatt purchased another new car, a 2020 Challenger GT. The challenger was a comfortable car, but Wyatt really wanted a sportscar. In 2022 he traded the Challenger for his second Porsche, a 2008 987 Cayman S in manual. Throughout Wyatts owners story his passion and love of cars shines through. He shows that you can just ‘buy and drive' without having to spend a lot of money. Welcome back to the PorscheCooled Podcast. Follow Wyatt on Instagram @y.it Michael (@michael.bath) owns a first generation 997 Carrera, comes from Australia and currently resides in Bahrain. There's a new Z in town and Jason has driven it! In this episode of the Carmudgeon Show, award-winning automotive journalist Jason Cammisa and award-deserving automotive encyclopedia Derek Tam-Scott discuss the 2023 Nissan Z. And the Jaguar E-Type. And Bridgestone S007 tires. And Aston Martin Vantages — V8 Vantages with blown engines. And Gordon Murray T.50s. Derek takes a turn for the nerdy by pointing out that British tax-horsepower regulations encouraged the tractor-like long-stroke engines that sapped some of the fun out of the 1960s sports cars. But not the Fairlady Z432, which Jason thinks might be the best-sounding six-cylinder engine of all time — up there with the Mercedes 300SL “Gullwing.” Mostly, though, this episode discusses Z — from the new one back to the original S30 240Z and Fairlady. Including the VR30DDTT engine that originally debuted in the Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400 — though it's derived from the port-injected R35 Nissan GT-R. And what episode would be complete without a highly legal street drag race between two BMW E30 325is? Certainly not this one.
What is Luxury? The boys are back, proving once again that you don't have to be old to be bitter. On their inaugural episode for the Hagerty Podcast Network, automotive journalist Jason Cammisa and Walking Encyclopedia of Automotive Knowledge Derek Tam-Scott discuss different types of luxury cars. Their unexpected conclusion: the best luxury car might be a cheap beat-up car. After all, there is no luxury greater than not having to worry. Or at least, that's the theory. Along the way, the Carmudgeons touch upon the difference between a perfect BMW E30 (like Jason's 325i Touring) and a beater (like Jason's 325i Sedan.) Then, it's off to the Lucid Air, Derek's Mk7.5 Volkswagen GTI, and how sometimes daily-driving a cheap example of an expensive car is possibly the least luxurious way to go. Because nothing is less luxurious than a tow truck. Or is space the final luxury frontier? After all, the Rivian R1T packs more cargo space in it than an AMG SUV. And it can keep up with an R35 Nissan GT-R. The Carmudgeon Show is part of the Hagerty Podcast Network. About the Podcast: The Carmudgeon Show is a comedic, information-filled conversation with Jason Cammisa and Derek Tam-Scott, two car enthusiasts who are curmudgeonly beyond their years. Proving you don't have to be old to be grumpy, they spend each episode talking about what's wrong with various parts of the automotive universe. Despite their best efforts to keep it negative, they usually wind up laughing, happy, and extolling their love for cars. Which just makes them angrier and more bitter. Jason Cammisa is an automotive journalist, social-media figure and TV host with over 250 million views on YouTube alone. Jason's deeply technical understanding, made possible by a lifelong obsession with cars, allows him to fully digest what's going on within an automobile — and then put it into simple terms for others to understand. Also, a Master's Degree in Law trained him to be impossible to argue with. Derek Tam-Scott still tries. He's a young automotive expert with old-man taste in cars, and a Master's Degree in Civil Engineering — which means he knows how to be civil to Jason. Or at least he tries. With a decade and a half's experience buying, selling, driving and brokering classic and exotic cars, he's experienced the world's most iconic cars. And hated most of them.

#ISSIMI #JasonCammmisa #DerekTamScott #CarmudgeonShowIt's car week! Or rather, it was car week when Jason and Derek recorded their first in-person Carmudgeon episode since before the pandemic. In this episode, they catch up on recent automotive happenings, as well as discussing Car Week and whether it's worth making the pilgrimage to attend. Jason shares his impressions of both Derek's Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Veloce and the Ferrari 288 GTO that he drove, and Derek shares some observations about the future of market for collector and enthusiast cars, including which ones are likely to move in the future, and which ones whose best days may be behind them in terms of market interest. They discuss why a Jaguar D-Type is worth less than a McLaren F1 and this of course is logically followed by a discussion of BMW E30 vs 944 and then the VW ID4 because these two cannot stay on the same page for more than a few seconds. The Carmudgeon Show is a comedic, information-filled conversation with Jason Cammisa and Derek Tam-Scott, two car enthusiasts who are curmudgeonly beyond their years.

We initially met Elizabeth Jolly at our second ever race at the 2018 24 Hours of Lemons race in Thompson CT. We then listened to her on the first few Shifting Points podcast. Then we met her at our recent skid pad and autocross event at Lime Rock Park with the SCDA group. It was at this point, we realized that these three ladies were all the same person. We could say we were overwhelmed at our second race; we could also say that we didn't recognize her since she was in her “Flo” costume, but it was great to meet her in person for the second time. On this episode, we catch up with Elizabeth on her thoughts about the SCDA event, her new E30 race car and then we talk through how to learn to work on a car from a starting point of near zero skills, experience, and tools. Both Elizabeth and Vicki have both progressed far in the past few years and maybe someday Bill will as well. Lol. On this episode’s Dominating with Dawson, we go into Ben’s extensive karting experience and discuss the various types of karts and kart racing available. Karting can definitely help your driving and racing, most things translate, and it is a great way to practice for relatively low cost. We do try to go into the parts of karting that translate and what doesn’t translate directly due to the difference in car geometry and suspension. While Ben is pulled away for his daddy duties, we take a slight detour into cake baking and decorating from our resident cake decorating expert, Miss Jen. Our first ever partial WOOT DwD episode. Even Ben came to the table with a Coca Cola cake, recipe tbd, lol. You can subscribe to our podcast on the podcast provider of your choice, including the Apple podcast app, Google music, Amazon, and YouTube etc. Also, if you could give our podcast a (5-star?) rating or even better, a podcast review, we would greatly appreciate it and it would help us to grow the passion and sport of high performance driving. For instance, leaving an Apple Podcast rating is very easy. If you go to your podcast library, under shows and click on the podcast you can leave a (5?) star rating and enter your review. A link to the episode is: https://tinyurl.com/ElizabethJolly We hope you enjoy this episode! PS Please don’t forget that if you are looking to add an Apex Pro to your driving telemetry system, don’t forget to use our discount code for all Apex Pro systems you will receive a free Windshield Suction Cup Mount for the system, a savings of $40. Just enter the code “ghitlikesapex!” when you order. We have two systems for our team and Bill is looking to add a third for this season, pending CFO approval from Vicki. They are a great system and truly invaluable in safely increasing your speed on track and/or autocross etc. Best regards, Vicki, Jennifer, Alan, and Bill Hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training Podcast and Garage Heroes In Training racing team drivers Highlights from this episode include: 1) Bill herds/hosts this episode. Vicki and Jen, as always, are so excited to have a fellow lady racing driver. 2) Elizabeth races autocross and endurance racing and almost all other forms of driving she can try. She started with a quick purchase of a 944 that then several other soon to be race cars. Her latest purchase is her new BMW E30 prepped race car. It even has a bit of history and we are sure Elizabeth will add to it as well. 3) Elizabeth and Jen commiserate about the wonderful weather at their first Lemons event. It was a downpour and the humidity hit a point where nearly all glass surfaces fogged making visibility even worse. We then go into the importance of seating position and the effect it can have on the driver’s ability to see as well. 4) Bill starts a plan. Nothing good can come of this. It's looking like a girls race weekend is upcoming. Bill is bringing palm fronds and a butler outfit for the ladies. 5) The discussion on beginning to learn about working on cars from scratch begins around 28:30 or so. Some great information that should help others go from garage zero to Garage Hero. See what we did there, lol. It was too easy to resist. 6) To the surprise of no one, Vicki relates the car to her past arts and crafts projects. The analogy does hold some merit from a material perspective. Elizabeth has even gone into the area of the electrical system and wiring of her 944’s. 7) The ladies provide a ton of tips and tricks that they have learned along the way. Some are very basic, but each one has been found to help us out. 8) Two words: parts car. (Does this mean Bill can buy another car? Sounds like it to him.) 9) Jen and Bill are next in line on learning to work on the race cars. 10) Vicki almost blows the super secret theme that we were working on and debuted at the Lemons race last weekend at PittRace. Photos 11) We then go into the favorite tools and tool highlights that Elizabeth and Vicki have at this point.
Igor Polishchuk is the founder of CAtuned one of the most renowned BMW workshops in North America. However it was the early hands on experience he gained from working with his father on family owned cars that led to his love for cars. A paying hobby flipping cars led to the acquisition of a space and then a garage which is what we know today as CAtuned. Igor started CAtuned in 2002, it all began with an admiration for square body cars like the BMW E30, and he is still inspired by the classics. From custom BMW and classic parts to full restoration services CAtuned does it all. However it is not just BMW's as CAtuned Off-Road takes care of the 4x4 and Overlanding community from simple products to custom off-road rigs. Then of course we have Igor's worldwide expansion of the CAtuned brand to Canada, Russia, Ukraine and Germany.Through CAtuned Igor has been able to combine his passion to build unique vehicles and create a business known throughout the world for quality parts. However the best and probably most rewarding part of it all is that he is able to use his business to educate people while bringing customers dreams to reality.
On this week’s episode of Speed Secret Podcast, James Colborn joins me to discuss everything open wheel racing, what it’s like to race during the pandemic, and racing in British Formula Ford. We also offer tips on racing in the rain. James Colborn’s Speed Secret: Get comfortable with what data can do for you. James started racing in 2009. BMW E30 is the most iconic BMW for me and my generation. It was the model that we had in our mind when we were teenagers when we were dreaming about cars without license driving when we still had in our mind "what is the best car for oversteering corners" or "for drifting?". The design, the 6-cylinder engine, the cabriolet, and (overall) the M3, made us dream. Well done BMW! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/johnny-garage/message

Why, as enthusiasts, do we love wagons so much? Jason and Derek discuss why they love wagons in general and their wagons (BMW E30 325i Touring, Audi C3 200 20v Avant, Mercedes S211 E500 4Matic) specifically. But Americans hate wagons, or so the manufacturers say when everyone asks them why they don’t bring wagons to America. However, Jason points out that the product planners often get it wrong when they bring wagons here, choosing to bring configurations that buyers don’t want at volumes so low and prices so high that even the most rabid wagon enthusiasts choose an SUV alternative instead. With the new Audi RS6 finally coming to America with considerable (and well-deserved) fanfare, could there be a resurgence in wagon interest in increasingly mainstream car people, or will it end up with Audi shaking their heads at disappointing sales and telling Americans “this is why you can’t have nice things”? Could non-car people who grew up in SUVs ever drive a backlash against the omnipresent crossover/CUV/SUV scourge, particularly as the superior aerodynamics of the wagon form factor make it more appealing for electric cars because of the relationship between aerodynamics and range? The Carmudgeon Show is a comedic, information-filled 25-minute conversation with Jason Cammisa and Derek Tam-Scott, two car enthusiasts who are curmudgeonly beyond their years. Proving you don’t have to be old to be grumpy, they spend each episode talking about what’s wrong with various parts of the automotive universe. Despite their best efforts to keep it negative, they usually wind up laughing, happy, and extolling their love for cars. Which just makes them angrier and more bitter.Jason Cammisa is an automotive journalist, social-media figure, and TV host with over 250 million views on YouTube alone. Jason’s deeply technical understanding, made possible by a lifelong obsession with cars, allows him to fully digest what’s going on within an automobile — and then put it into simple terms for others to understand. Also, a Master’s Degree in Law trained him to be impossible to argue with. Derek Tam-Scott still tries. He’s a young automotive expert with old-man taste in cars, and a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering — which means he knows how to be civil to Jason. Or at least he tries. With a decade and a half’s experience buying, selling, driving and brokering classic and exotic cars, he’s experienced the world’s most iconic cars. And hated most of them. That was when her folks knew she was serious about her career change. Laura talks about working for a BMW dealer and the discrimination she experiences from a customer and Snap-on representative.

Episode 17 - Garrett Farmer recently graduated from college and decided to hit the road for a few months in the custom widebody BMW E30 that he built himself. Friend of the show, Christian Shipp, spotted Garrett at the SCCA Solo Nationals in Lincoln, Nebraska last week and got us in contact with him.
