Ryan, oh my Goshling! Derudover er filmen kommet i biograferne takket være Jordan Peele (Get Out, Nope).
Jordan Peele (Get Out, Nope, Wendell & Wild) is an actor, comedian, and filmmaker. Jordan joins the Armchair Expert to discuss why he loves the horror and comedy genres, why doing films that have meaning is so important to him, and how he approaches character development in his stories. Jordan and Dax talk about the similarities between Punk'd and Mad TV, what growing up with single mothers was like, and how vital interpersonal skills are in the filmmaking process. Jordan explains what he is afraid of, how ego affects the creative process, and why actor performances are essential to make a great film. In this bonus episode, we reappraise two and watch anew the first three horror films from writer/director Jordan Peele: Get Out, Us, and Nope. Starring everyone from Daniel Kaluuya to Bradley Whitford along with Tim Heidecker and Keith David, the three films tackle race, aliens, and identity politics through the mind of one of horror's hottest directors. Wake Up Heavy's Mark Begley joins Chris to talk about the films, Peele's direction throughout, and where he goes from here. The Cogill's are fans of writer/director Jordan Peele (Get Out) and found his latest film, Nope,” to be both a Cowboy/Sci Fi spectacle as well as a thought-provoking piece of social commentary.“House Of The Dragon” is the HBO prequel to the award-winning series, “Game Of Thrones,” dating back 200 years. Good acting, plenty of Dragons, and a fascinating female lead have kept the Cogills more than interested.Sommelier, Hayley Hamilton Cogill, pairs the cowboy-minded “Nope” with a wine labeled “The Walking Fool” from Suisun Valley. A red blend based on an 1881 Howell Mountain homesteader who walked down the mountain daily to find work. For “House Of The Dragon,” Hayley settles on a wine called “Dragon's Tooth,” from the Trefethen family honoring family matriarch, Catherine Trefethen.

The AwardsWatch Podcast returns this week, with episode 146, as executive editor and host Ryan McQuade fell ill but, the trooper that he is, and who called in from the hospital (!), is here on this week's show with me back in the host seat (just this once). We are joined by Nicole Ackman, Dan Bayer and Josh Parham. After a brief check in with Ryan we dive into this year's Comic-Con, which unveiled Marvel's closure of Phase 4 of their worldwide domination and the entering of Phases 5 and 6. While the con itself was a little light on actual content, the one that stood out was the very first trailer (and look of any kind) of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Stunning visuals, a performance from Angela Bassett that looks immediately memorable and quotable (hello, Keke Palmer!), this epic teaser took San Diego and the world by storm, racking up 15M views on the Marvel YouTube and 32.6M on its Twitter in less than 24 hours. Up next is fall festivals news about what's going to be playing where, highlighted by the big surprise news last week that Steven Spielberg's semi-autobiographical film The Fabelmans will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, his first-ever appearance there. Could it be the stage for a return to Oscar glory? It certainly won't hurt. We move into Emmy talk is with the group looking at how the notorious 'vote-splitting' believers could rear their ugly heads in categories were few shows dominated. The White Lotus, Succession, Ted Lasso and Hacks all find themselves with the lion's share of acting nominations in several categories but does that mean they'll cancel each other out? Not so fast, as history has shown that not to be the case, especially when there are built-in frontrunners in more than one. Opening this weekend with high anticipation and expectation was the latest from Oscar winner Jordan Peele (Get Out) with his sci-fi/horror and homage to directing greats, Nope, starring Oscar winner Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer. Thoughts are wildly mixed among the panel (Nicole sits this one out as she hasn't seen it yet) with Josh (who reviewed the film for the site) liking it better on his second viewing, Ryan being a full-fledged superfan of the film, and Dan and I, who both liked it but with reservations about its screenplay hobbling it from being great. This conversation, which runs from the 52:00 mark to 1:22:50, is spoiler-heavy so if you haven't seen the film, skip on over. Listener questions are next from Bryan Sudfield, S2S Movie Reviews, JacobK2022 and TV Fontaine who want to know our thoughts our favorite Emmy nominations and biggest snub, what's to be done about shows dominating Emmy categories, career comebacks like Cameron Diaz and why certain Oscar narratives fail and others succeed. Next week's show will revisit the listener questions that went unanswered from two weeks prior, plus the group reveals their favorite Criterion releases ever. This podcast runs 1h47m. Without further ado, let's get into it. Music: “Modern Fashion” from AShamaleuvmusic (intro) and "B-3" from BoxCat Games Nameless: The Hackers RPG Soundtrack (outro) used by permission

On this very genre-bending episode of One and Done TV, Ian and John join forces to review the 2020 HBO sci-fi fantasy horror drama Lovecraft Country starring Jonathan Majors and Jurnee Smollett! Developed by Misha Green (Underground, Sons of Anarchy) and produced by Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us), this Emmy-nominated series follows Atticus “Tic” Freeman and Letitia Lewis through 1950's Jim Crow America as they journey to find Tic's father and end up encountering monsters in many forms along the way. John puts on his love goggles for Everything, Everywhere, All at Once. The guys discuss the art of spoken word. Ian very closely guesses how many sets were made for this series. Both confuse Sam Neill for Sam Elliott! Mike 1 returns as we react to the nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Golden Globes. Yes, we find some silver linings and many nominees we can praise. But dammit all, some of these picks were RIDICULOUS, and we do not hold back in our criticisms. What is This Episode? - Top of Show GOLDEN GLOBES + SAG NOM REACTIONS: Best Picture/Ensemble - 3:20 (Comedy/Musical - 17:34) Best Director - 28:36 Best Actress - 35:01 (All Things Elegy - 41:22) Supporting Actress - 46:00 Lead Actor - 52:01 Supporting Actor - 58:44 (Leto, Leto, Leto - 1:01:31) UNDERCARD NOMS: Screenplay - 1:05:25 Stunt Ensemble - 1:08:52 Original Score - 1:10:47 Original Song - 1:12:16 Animated/International Feature - 1:14:10 Where To Find Us/LEAVE US A 5* REVIEW! - 1:17:33 Words of Wisdom/What’s Coming Next - 1:18:43 Also Mike here: ...soooo, I feel very stupid after relistening to my analysis on the Globes Best Screenplay category at the end of this episode. I completely misread a statistic about the crossover between the 5 Globe Screenplay noms and the Oscars, I remembered my rage for Jordan Peele Get Out snub, and ignoring common sense, I became wildly wrong about the overall stat. Of course, the Globes screenplay category has over an 85% crossover on their last 11 years of nominations. Of course, I let my selective memory run wild. Of course, I was wrong. Anyway, Mike 1 sets me straight... somewhat. But he didn’t have the stats in front of him to correct me all the way. So yeah, sorry about that, and we thank you for the understanding. Otherwise, this episode was a swirl of passionate feelings. We’re glad to be recording together again as Mike 1 has recovered from his surgery, and to show our love, we make a lot of jokes that range from some of the best we’ve ever told to some of the worst. Again, you’re welcome, and we’re sorry. We’re also furious at some of these nominations as a few critically panned films have now, somehow been propped up as awards worthy. Worse than that, this is not unprecedented. So to show our rage, we drive home some long angry arguments against all the belligerent to the baffling decisions made by the HFPA and yes, to a much lesser extent, by SAG. Maybe the cabin fever of our pandemic quarantines is finally getting the better of the both of us. Maybe Mike 1 has officially brought me over to the dark side. Or maybe we’re right to structure much of this particular show to argue against some of these nominations, even if it’s at the expense of taking more time to celebrate the many others we love. I truly don’t know if our party pooper mentality in this episode was right or not, and you will have to be the judge. There are legions of more positive episodes of MMO to enjoy in our past catalog and to look forward to in our upcoming programming if the vibes you prefer are elsewhere. In any event, we’re glad at Mike 1’s return, we’re thrilled to be nearing the launch of MikeMikeAndOscar.com, and we’ll be hitting record again soon to react to Monday’s Critics Choice Award Noms and Wednesday’s Oscar Shortlists. As always, and especially after this one, do please reach out and let us know your thoughts. We’re at MMandOscar on Twitter, and we are at Mike, Mike, and Oscar on Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, and Gmail. You can subscribe / rate / review / like / share / & hear us on Apple Podcasts, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Google Play, Tune In, Spotify, and just about wherever you might listen. We’re Mike, Mike, & Oscar, and we’re making awards season year round, without the stuffiness. Thank you! And do stay safe, everybody.

Settle in for an extra-spooky Halloween episode! We’re joined by Michael Monello, one of the creators of The Blair Witch Project, Co-founder and Creative Director of Campfire Media and co-producer of the Video Palace podcast for Shudder, and Qiana Whitted, a professor English and African American Studies at the University of South Carolina and author of EC Comics: Race, Shock and Social Protest, which won the 2020 Eisner Award for best academic/scholarly work. Together, they discuss horror in film, radio/podcast, comics, novels, television, and every-day life, helping to map the genre for our listeners. They start with reflections on their own early exposure to the genre. Whitted discusses the way EC comics introduced racism as a form of horror across their suspense and shock oriented titles and she situates these stories within the political debates that followed from Frederic Wertham’s attacks on horror and crime comics and the ways these paved the way for the comics code. Monello traces the ways Video Palace took inspiration from radio horror series in the ways it uses sound to draw the listener in with a mixture of fascination and dread. Along the way, they reflect on how horror has been a site for social transgression and artistic experimentation, and consider the ways international horror films can break the formulas and take us out of a familiar space. And they end with speculations about what forms of horror will allow us to rethink our society in the wake of COVID-19 and Black Lives Matter.Full Transcript will be available soon on our website at https://www.howdoyoulikeitsofar.org/episode-74-horror-social-change-and-experimentation-with-michael-monello-and-qiana-whitted/Here’s your horror watch/read/listen list from this episode (you may want to leave the lights on!):Horror in CinemaGremlinsGhouliesNightmare on Elm StreetUniversal MonstersMidsommarThe Blair Witch ProjectMedia HorrorGeorge RomeroCreepshowUPA – “The Tell Tale Heart" (animated)German Expressionism – from Germany to American horror filmCabinet of Doctor CaligariDavid Lynch – Blue VelvetDawn of the Dead (extended Mall Hours version)Tod Browning – FreaksRobin WoodsAudition (Japan)Terrified (Argentina)Carrie (multiple snap endings)John Waters (outsider culture)Jordan Peele – Get Out (alternate ending) ; UsHostProducer Val LewtonA Quiet PlaceDocumentary: Horror Noire: A History of Black HorrorHorror in ComicsEC Comics: Race, Shock and Social ProtestSwamp ThingTales from the CryptEC comics – William Gaines, Al FeldsteinVault of TerrorHaunt of FearFrederic Wertham and Moral Panic around Horror and Crime ComicsComics Code“The Whipping”EC Comics illustrator Wally WoodBernie Krigstein – “Master Race” ; ImpactEC Shock Suspense Stories – “The Patriot” ; “You, Murderer” (adaptation of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari)Horror Fandom60s Monster CultureFamous Monsters of Filmland – Forest J. You're in the Sunken Place now. Three-timer guest and Texan film buff, Emmanuel Akinola makes a comeback to chat about the films of modern horror auteur, Jordan Peele ("Get Out" and "Us") and how he ushered in a new era of horror cinema! Come join your hosts and their longest-running guest for this haunting chapter!
We review and answer the question - Is 'Candyman' the movie trailer for you? Billed as a "spiritual sequel" to the 1992 horror, produced and co-written by Jordan Peele (Get Out). Set in the now-gentrified Chicago neighbourhood where the Candyman legend - a murderous soul with a hook for a hand, the son of a slave killed in the late 19th century, summoned by saying his name five times in the mirror - began. Tony Todd, who played The Candyman in the original, returns. In present day, visual artist Anthony McCoy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Us) and his girlfriend (Teyonah Parris, If Beale Street Could Talk) move into a modern condo in Cabrini. Abrams (Lost, Star Trek, Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Lovecraft Country tells the story of a young man who goes on a journey from his hometown in Chicago to "Lovecraft Country" -- a place filled with monsters -- the otherworldly kind and the racist human kind, to find his missing father with his uncle and childhood friend tagging along. Disney's library of original animated shows is second to none! Shows like Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers and TaleSpin breathed new life into old characters. Meanwhile Darkwing Duck and Adventures of the Gummi Bears forged their own paths with new shows. And while all of them were fantastic, there was something special about Gargoyles! Maybe it was the multicultural characters, the cast of Star Trek alumni, the adult themes, or the literary allusions, but this show stood out among a sea of other quality animated series. Goliath, Elisa, Demona, Brooklyn, Hudson, Bronx, Broadway, and Lexington roared onto our tv's and have stood the test of time. Even garnering interest from Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us). This week's we're showing some love to the clan's jalapeno eating, Shakespeare reading, noir watching, warrior...Broadway!

Academy Award winning writer/director Jordan Peele (Get Out) returns to deliver a new, original horror film with Us starring Lupita Nyong’o (Non-Stop) and Winston Duke (Black Panther). Filled with self-referential images and packed with subtext and meaning, Peele crams this thriller with a lot of extra weight to bear. Some viewers will marvel at the complex multi-level narrative and the social commentary. Others will wonder why it isn’t scarier.

With Discovery on hiatus for a few more weeks, The Shuttle Pod crew examines a handful of news items that have come up since the last episode. The biggest by far were the reports of Quentin Tarantino pitching a story to J.J. Abrams for the next Star Trek movie. Tarantino is known to be an Original Series fan, but the movie could be about any part of the franchise. Is it a Kelvin Timeline movie? A TNG movie? Something altogether new? He’s got a story idea, but what are the chances he will direct it too? We put on our speculation hats and dive in! Back on Star Trek: Discovery news, we chat about the new soundtrack release, and how Discovery has made a number of “shows to binge this winter” lists. We also discuss the official announcement of a new version of The Twilight Zone for CBS All Access. The show is being developed by Jordan Peele (Get Out), Simon Kinberg (X-Men franchise), and Marco Ramirez (Daredevil). Come listen in as Brian, Jared, and Matt discuss.
