With over 13 years of experience as a UI/UX designer and a passion for board games, Drew's designs combine simplicity and beauty. Inspired by pop art and guided by user experience principles, he has done the graphic design for titles like Robomon, Hissy Fit!, the HUNTED series, and all of the Solo Game of the Month games. Drew is also a game designer! Small-Time Heroes has been a passion project of his for many years. He started designing games after he gave up playing Hearthstone semi competitively and wanted something to fill that void. After 1000's of hours of Slay the Spire, listening to every single BGDL episode, and taking a game design course with Justin Gary, he created Small-Time Heroes, a card players love letter to Slay the Spire and the digital rogue-likes that came from it.You can check out Small Time Heroes on Gamefound here: https://gamefound.com/en/projects/gabe-barrett/small-time-heroes-solo-game-of-the-monthFOLLOW US ON: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/boardgamebingeInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/boardgamebingepodcast/ Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/boardgamebingeWHERE TO FIND OUR PODCAST:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5RJbdkguebb3MSLAatZr7riHeart Radio: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-board-game-binge-72500104/Tune In: https://tunein.com/embed/player/p1344218/Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5jYXB0aXZhdGUuZm0vYm9hcmRnYW1lYmluZ2U=Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/board-game-binge/id1522623033Visit Our Websites: Board Game Binge: https://boardgamebinge.com/Tin Robot Games: https://tinrobotgames.comElixir Board Games: https://www.elixirboardgames.com/our-games

If you were to tell me that the CREATOR of Magic: The Gathering designed a web3 game with a top ranked MTG pro & veteran game designer, I would say that is one of the most insane, deeply bullish things to happen in Web3 gaming. Ever. This is me telling you exactly that. TCGs are one of the easiest genres to show why blockchain enhances gaming. But it's no secret it's starting to feel a bit oversaturated. How does SolForge Fusion stand out from other web3 TCGs? - They're a hybrid TCG. Physical, digital, and web3 - with over a million physical decks already sold & an active playerbase. - You're not just trading cards. You're trading decks, because every deck is a unique 1/1 collectible, that you can further alter by fusing them together. - Over 20,000 unique cards already available! - Massive free airdrop right now to over 70k web3 gamers, & 180k @solana holders - & the best part? It's genuinely fun. In this episode of "Think Like a Game Designer," I take a different approach by presenting a solo discussion without any guests. Here, I focus on a concept I introduced in a previous episode with Stephan Brissaud: the CORE Attributes. These attributes became very popular among listeners, so much so, that I thought it worth expanding upon in a new episode.I'll be elaborating on these core attributes, which I believe are essential for success: Curiosity, Obsession, Resilience, and Empathy. My goal is to provide a deeper understanding of these attributes in your life, offering insights and practical advice.CORE Attribute References:Summary of CORE Attributes:* Curiosity: The spark that drives learning and exploration. Stay curious and keep exploring.* Obsession: The focus and dedication needed to dive deep into a subject. Find something you're passionate about and dive in, blocking out all distractions.* Resilience: The ability to overcome challenges and use setbacks to fuel growth. Learn from your failures and keep pushing forward.* Empathy: This point is about understanding others and adding value to people's lives. Our creative work has to serve others to be truly meaningful and we need to enroll others into our projects by understanding and speaking to their needs. These attributes have been crucial in both my personal and professional life. In this episode, I share personal anecdotes and practical exercises to help you cultivate these traits.I'd love to hear your feedback and engage with you through my Substack and Twitter. I'm incredibly grateful for this community and the opportunity to share these insights with you.Game Links:* Ascension Legends* You Gotta Be Kitten Me* SolForge Fusion Get full access to Think Like A Game Designer at justingarydesign.substack.com/subscribe

Ten years ago, your Going Analog hosts Christina and Shoe were obsessed with the digital collectible card game SolForge. Sadly, the daily (and nightly) sessions of lane-based combat mixed with a revolutionary upgradable-card system went away when the game eventually sunsetted (solsetted?). But, Richard Garfield (Magic: The Gathering, Android Netrunner) and Justin Gary (Ascension, Shards of Infinity) knew their co-design still had some...ahem, magic to it, so they revived it via Kickstarter as a tabletop experience, SolForge Fusion. Now SolForge is full-circling its career by returning to its original format. This time, however, the new digital game will work with its physical counterpart on a truly ambitious new platform. It is a strange thing for one's hobby to be utterly infused with a nominally competitive structure. I would venture to say that knitters, for instance, devote precious little thought as to whether they can knit more or less well than their fellow crafters. Perhaps it is different for scrapbookers, I don't know, they seem like a ruthless lot.01:16 AYURIS: Aristeia! All right, we need to talk about Sokka. Another staple of kid's shows is often The Annoying One. I don't know why, but they're often there. Steven Universe had Ronaldo, but they knew to use him sparingly. Sokka is so aggressively obnoxious in the first two episodes it is a miracle anyone makes it to episode three. He could have just been the complainer, but additionally his monumental and gratuitous misogyny is so bad that one wonders what Suki (an awesome character) ever saw in him. Sure, he gets better, but always in my mind the Early Days Sokka looms over the show like some terrible shadow.00:59 AYURIS: On Mars (Vital Lacerda, Eagle-Gryphon Games, 2020)Games Played Last Week:02:33 -Cryo (Tom Jolly & Luke Laurie, Z-Man Games, 2021)07:22 -Red Outpost (Raman Hryoryk, Lifestyle Boargames Ltd, 2019)11:38 -Cantaloop: Book 1--Breaking into Prison (Friendemann Findeisen & Grzegorz Kobiela, Lookout Games, 2020)15:36 -Brass: Birmingham (Gavan Brown, Matt Tolman, & Martin Wallace, Roxley, 2018)19:14 -Clever Cubed (Wolfgang Warsch, Schmidt Spiele, 2020)21:09 -Sleeping Gods (Ryan Laukat, Red Raven Games, 2021)23:38 -PARKS (Henry Audubon, Keymaster Games, 2019)27:16 -Shards of Infinity: Into the Horizon (Gary Arant, Justin Gary, Ryan Sutherland, Jared Saramago, Mataio Wilson, & Jason Zila, Stone Blade Entertainment, 2021)29:19 -Pickomino Deluxe (Reiner Knizia, Zoch Verlag, 2018)31:53 -Witchstone (Martino Chiacchiera & Reiner Knizia, R&R Games, 2021)34:48 -Empire of the Stars (Adam West, CrossCut Games, 2021)40:15 -The Grimm Masquerade (Tim Eisner, Ben Eisner, & James Hudson, Druid City Games, 2019)News (and why it doesn't matter):45:53 Fundraiser on Twitch for Food Banks Canada on October 2nd at 3 PM EST.Guests: No Pun Included, Board Game Barrage, the SVWAG crew! Hey, we're all in quarantine but that doesn't mean we have to stop watching movies together. This past Sunday, the Psychotronic Film Society Podcast hosted a Virtual Movie Night where we all watched Glenn Danzig's VEROTIKA together. Afterwards, Justin & Gary hopped on the internet and gave a short review of the film, presented here in its entirety, raw and unedited! This was recorded via Zoom so you'll have to excuse the quality of the audio. We also streamed this review live on Instagram and will be posting a video of our Zoom session on our YouTube channel. Some randomness is accepted nearly uncritically by many gamers. Conventional deckbuilders have exceptionally high variance as a rule, but no one bats an eye. We accept that anything martial might have mixed results, even after repeated attempts--in fact, many protest when the wound-making is too deterministic. Tiles from a bag? Sure. The instant that locomotion is involved, though, your typical gamer gets all shirty. Magical Athlete would like a word.Games Played Last Week:02:52 -Don't L.L.A.M.A. Dice (Reiner Knizia, AMIGO, 2021)06:00 -Lacuna (Mark Gerrits, CMYK, 2023)08:25 -Picky Eaters (Tanya Basu and Avi Setton, Le Fou, 2024)14:42 -Spirit Island: Nature Incarnate (R.
