Today, I want to talk about humanity's place in the world and making sense of reality in times of tumult and suffering. I've had an internal dilemma about how informed to stay about what's happening in the world. Consuming the news, we undesirably become dervishes of fear from the content oversaturation. Turning away from the content overload, we innocently attempt for self-care, which almost always has a tail of guilt smacking us in the face.So what's one to do when these two extremes are at play? How do we keep a pulse on reality, while also tending to the impacts of overconsumption on our psyche, emotional states, energy system, and physical body?In today's episode, I want to offer a few perspectives on rising in a time of crisis, healing humanity's shared abandonment wound, and shifting from the mindset of scarcity to one of sovereignty. I'll also reveal what I've been cooking for you with my new program, so tune in and let's riff together on these big topics. What is Covered: (01:00) Humanity's place in a chaotic world(06:29) Reality – what is it and how do we trust our version?(11:11) The five epic cycles of extinction on Planet Earth(16:45) Evolution and the Phenomenon of Horizontal Gene Transfer(23:12) What causes human separation from a biological perspective?(23:30) What is our abandonment disorder? And, what role does it play in reinforcing separation and isolation?(30:35) Feeling unity and connection vs. intellectualizing it(33:07) How we, as nature, regenerate with the right conditions(35:38) Vulnerability - our shared humanity and glue(38:19) What we can learn from mycelium(42:00) How to navigate despair and catalyze love(47:55) What we can do to evolve ourselves and spread wisdom(54:01) Personal practices for connecting with nature and ourselves(58:00) Frederick - a short story by Leo Lionni(1:03:00) Revealing Wisdom Revolution Membership announcement Resources:- Sign up for the Power Reclamation Newsletter https://revealingwisdom.activehosted.com/f/9- Zach Bush MD http://zachbushmd.com/- Watch Life on Our Planet https://www.netflix.com/rs/title/80213846- Fantastic Fungi https://fantasticfungi.com/pages/the-filmAnne-Marie Marron:- If you have a power reclamation story to share or questions, please send them to Ask Anne-Marie https://anne-mariemarron.com/ask - Find Anne-Marie on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/anne.marie.marron/ - If you wonder whether Power Reclamation Coaching is for you, book a discovery call https://calendly.com/anne-marie-marron/30-minute-consultation - For more on customized immersions with Anne-Marie, please visit: https://anne-mariemarron.com/integral-leadership-immersion

Leo Lionni changed the picture book landscape with beloved titles such as Frederick, Swimmy, and A Color of His Own. But those books are just a small window into his extensive career as a graphic designer, painter, and a master of fine art.  Annie Lionni, Leo's granddaughter, and Leonard Marcus, a children's book historian, join us to talk about the life and art of Leo Lionni as shared in their new book "Leo Lionni: Storyteller, Artist, Designer."

Last month, Eric Carle, the beloved children's book writer and illustrator, died. His most famous book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar — about a caterpillar that ate different things each day and turned into a butterfly — has been translated into at least 66 languages, including Japanese. It's a reminder of how easily many books for kids travel the world. Libraries and homes across Japan have Japanese-language editions of Italian American illustrator Leo Lionni's Swimmy, about the importance of facing challenges together, and Beatrix Potter's stories of Peter Rabbit and his friends in the English countryside. Some English books don't always work well in Japanese: Dr. Seuss's books are great fun in English because of the nonsense rhymes, but they are hard to translate. Still, you can find Japanese versions of some Dr. Seuss classics, like Horton Hears a Who. But the translations have gone the other way, too, with a flood of popular Japanese books for toddlers getting translated into English. These include: the Guri and Gura series of books by Rieko Nakagawa and her sister Yuriko Yamawaki, about two mice who love to cook; It Might Be an Apple, a wonderful story by Shinsuke Yoshitake for budding creative types that looks at how you can use imagination to make the world seem exciting; and of course, we can't leave out Taro Gomi's Everyone Poops, a fun book that helps kids with their toilet training. Reading children's books in translation is a great way to taste different cultures. It's interesting that only 3% of books in the U.S. are translations — it might help explain why so many Americans aren't curious about the world. Bedtime stories are a first step to understanding, and translated books help little minds learn about other countries. (T) This article was provided by The Japan Times Alpha.

Epistemology is more than a four letter word! How does the WAY we seek truth influence how we see our bodies, and our health? In an age where science is constantly overturning what we thought we knew about the body, and new theories come out every day trying to explain new phenomena, one theory remains unchallenged. Since 1628, when Harvey published his seminal text on the circulation of blood, we have believed more or less the same thing about the heart. But what if the heart isn't a pump at all? And what if it's time that we update Harvey's ideas? In this installment, Dr. James Mohebali goes to the "heart" of the issue, and examines how our underlying beliefs about what it means to be human can color our understanding of the medicine we use. We take a stroll through epistemology, and see how the seemingly simple question of "how do we know what we know" can completely upend our relationship with our own bodies and with one another. Touching on quantum physics, imaginary plants, Chinese family altars, our relationship to scripture and our ancestors, reiki, biofield therapy, and more, we discover that there's a LOT more at stake in the "heart" question than just what a particular muscle is doing inside your chest.Like what you're hearing?

Betsy is very proud of herself. She managed to go this entire episode of the podcast without mentioning Rainbow Fish once. She and Kate do discuss Frederick briefly, but how can you not? In this episode Betsy discovers that no one has ever written a fun background story on how Leo Lionni came up with this book. Instead the sisters discuss whether or not Lionni was good at making art with cut potatoes, whether fish have eyebrows, and how hard it is to say the term "Mom pun" repeatedly. "If you've got a Leo Lionni book you're not going anywhere very fast, but you're gonna get there eventually." The old Ant and the Grasshopper fable got the Lionni touch back in 1967 when the four time Caldecott Honor winner chose to put a new spin on an old classic. So how successful was this book in the end? Is it a product of its age (the tune in and drop out 60s) or something that stands the test of time? In the course of things the sisters discuss the fact that Frederick would have made a fantastic lawyer, how he progresses from emo to hipster, and whether or not that poppy on the cover has a special significance. Plus they get to mention Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, and that ALWAYS makes for good podcast talk. Show Notes: - Yay, Cybils! We're so pleased with the winner of the Picture Book category. Here's the full list of Cybils winners, if you're curious: http://www.cybils.com/2019/02/2018-cybils-winners.html - Regarding the Leo Lionni sculpture housed at The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, they say, "The sculpture, titled Imaginary Garden, was created in 1978 and was previously housed at The Fresno Metropolitan Museum of Art in California. The Imaginary Garden captures Lionni's love for botany, evident in the attention given to flora and fauna in his picture book illustrations, as well as his book of fictional plants from 1977, Parallel Botany. The sculpture is a blending of the organic and the abstract, giving the piece a fantastic, otherworldly appearance." - Here is the Frederick page on the site Teaching Children Philosophy: https://www.teachingchildrenphilosophy.org/BookModule/Frederick - Thank you again, Benji Martin, for the faux and very kind award! Whether a conflict involves international powers, corporate leadership, or a husband and wife, a violation of dignity is always the underlying cause. No matter the situation, we are all looking to be treated as if we have worth and value, and it is this fundamental desire for dignity that makes us human. How can a better understanding of the principles of dignity help us improve our relationships and address conflicts in a way that doesn’t perpetuate a destructive dynamic? Donna Hicks has 20-plus years of experience as a facilitator in international conflicts in the Middle East, Sri Lanka, Colombia, Cuba, Northern Ireland and the US. Her understanding of dignity and the role it plays in resolving conflict has transformed work environments for prominent companies, nonprofits and government agencies, and Donna’s impressive client roster includes the World Bank, the United Nations, the US Navy and the Senate of Colombia. She was a featured speaker at TEDx Stormont in 2013 and co-host of Facing the Truth for the BBC with Archbishop Desmond Tutu in 2006. Donna is the author of the bestseller Dignity: The Essential Role It Plays in Resolving Conflict, and she has been invited to discuss the topic on prominent media outlets including the BBC, Fox News and NPR. Today, Donna sits down with Katherine to explain how her work with international conflict resolution translates to families. She discusses the universal desire to be treated as if we matter as the one aspiration that unites us all. Donna speaks to the concept of dignity within the context of marriage, describing how self-preservation instincts make it difficult to give our partners the benefit of the doubt and apologize for dignity violations. Listen in for insight around the technique of ‘getting up on the balcony’ to reflect on your behavior and pausing for 90 seconds before responding to a dignity violation. A COLOR OF HIS OWN --- by Leo LionniParrots are greengoldfish are redelephants are graypigs are pinkAll animals have a color of their own-except for chameleons. They change color wherever they go.On lemons they are yellow. In the heather they are purple. And on the tiger they are striped like tigers. One day a chameleon who was sitting on a tiger’s tail said to himself,“If I remain on a leaf, I shall be green forever, and so I too will have a color of my own.”With this thought he cheerfully climbed onto the greenest leaf. But in autumn the leaf turned yellow – and so did the chameleon.Later the leaf turned red, and the chameleon too turned red.And then the winter winds blew the leaf from the branch and with it the chameleon. The chameleon was black in the long winter night. But when spring came, he walked out into the green grass. And there he met another chameleon. He told his sad story. “Won’t we ever have a color of our own?” he asked."I’m afraid not,” said the other chameleon, who was older and wiser."But,” he added, “why don’t we stay together?"We will still change color wherever we go, but you and I will always be alike.”And so they remained side by side. They were green togetherand purpleand yellowand red with white polka dots. And they lived happilyever after.THE END
