Welcome to another episode of Movies that Make Us! It's the start of a whole new month, so it's time for Staff Picks. This time we wanted to talk about Soundtracks and Scores. Film scores were traditionally performed by orchestras, and many still are, but today a film score might feature all manner of sounds and instruments. A film soundtrack is more a selection of songs chosen to be featured in a film.Val selected Up from Disney/Pixar, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse with its diverse hip-hop soundtrack, and Creed, one of her modern favorites. Tracy suggests the 2006 film The Fountain, went back to his childhood for Rocky 4, and the movie Garden State with Natalie Portman. Jake chose The Lord of the Rings trilogy composed by the great Howard Shore, Tom Hanks' first directed film That Thing You Do, and The Wedding Singer. What are your thoughts on these picks? Welcome to another episode of Movies that Make Us! We're wrapping up our “Reunited and it feels so good” month with a look back at the underappreciated film Muppets Take Manhattan. This is the third Muppets film and the first directed by someone other than Jim Henson. Henson was tired after filming The Great Muppet Caper and The Dark Crystal back to back, so he turned the director's chair over to Frank Oz. Interesting fact, the film was originally going to feature cameos from Dustin Hoffman, Steve Martin, Michael Jackson, Laurence Olivier, Richard Pryor among others. Hoffman was going to play the role of a broadway producer (later played by Dabney Coleman) but dropped out at the last minute as he was afraid it would insult film producer Robert Evans (The Godfather) and dropped out resulting in all the cameos cancelling as well. Oz and his team had to rewrite most of the film's dialogue right before filming as a result. What are your thoughts on the film? As always, you can reach us at podcast@moviesthatmakeus.com. This week, the cast of Movies that Make Us take on what is arguably the greatest film ever made, Citizen Kane. Since it was recently dethroned by Paddington 2 as having the best rating on RottenTomatoes.com, we decided to travel back to 1941 and see if Orson Welles' film stands the test of time. The film explores the life of Charles Foster Kane through the lenses of those who knew him, those that loved him, and those that hated him. It's the story of a young man's quest for love, power, and respect who reaches dazzling heights and then has a tragic downfall. Citizen Kane set so many precedents in cinematography, editing, acting, and is still very relevant to life in the modern era. What are your thoughts on the film? Have you seen it before? Do you appreciate its significance? Next week, the cast is reuniting for the first time post Covid, and we're bringing our staff picks to the underappreciated genre of Western films. Movies That Make Us

It’s April and the Movies that Make Us team has caught a case of springfever! We’re excited to spend the month talking about films that deal withgrowth, change, and that make you feel good. Our first selection is the 2014 film Chef that was written, co-produced,starring, and directed by Jon Favreau. Favreau plays a chef who, after apublic altercation with a food critic, loses his job at a popular Los Angelesrestaurant and begins to operate a food truck with his young son. The scriptwas semi-autobiographical, incorporating parts of Favreau's life into themain character, such as being a father while having a busy career andcoming from a "broken home"; Favreau also drew a comparison betweenhis career as a director and Carl's career as a chef; he stepped down fromdirecting major studio films to go "back to basics" and create Chef on asmaller budget, much like Carls resignation from a popular restaurant towork in a food truck. What are your thoughts on the film? Tuesday Red Pill Diaries-CoronaHoax™ Tyrants Roll Out New "Lockdown" Schemes, Real Men MUST Answer “Come & Make Us!”       BIOGRAPHY  Mike Church Biography – “Too Catholic For Satellite Radio” In May of 2015, Chris Ferrara wrote a bio pic essay on a talk-radio host who was then completely unknown to Catholic, talk-radio fans. The Mike Church Interview: A Remarkable Conversion to Tradition Changes the Face of Political Talk Radio Featured Chris wrote of me back then, words that were too kind but serve as a basis for this biography. Indeed, over the past year or so Mike Church has emerged as the only traditionally Catholic conservative in talk radio today, anywhere in the world. And I mean traditional. Not only during my appearances on the show, but now thematically, Mike has turned the longest running political talk show on Sirius Radio into an unabashed presentation of the Social Kingship of Christ, traditional Catholic moral teaching, and even the traditional Latin liturgy as the solution to what is evidently otherwise a terminal civilizational crisis. I have been invited on the show numerous times to defend all of these things explicitly, to speak of the one true Church, and even to call upon conservative Protestants to enter the Church if they are serious about saving our nation and our civilization. From there, on October 26, 2015, my 13 year run on Sirius Satellite Radio came to a close when my contract was not renewed. Chris would follow the above bio with an updated one titled, The Mike Church Show – Too Catholic For Satellite Radio. MIKE CHURCH BIOGRAPHY FACTS Born, February 2nd, New Orleans Begun talk-radio in 1992, WSLA, Slidell LA, I have been off air a total of 7 months since. Launched the Sirius Satellite Radio service as its FIRST – LIVE talk-show on 10 March, 2003. Promoted to Morning Drive on the SiriusXM Patriot Channel, May 2009, the 3rd most listened to show on the platform From July 2007 – present, founded Founding Father Films, wrote, produced, narrated and directed 9, full length audio features, two that made it to DVD! Returned to the Roman Catholic Church’s Tridentine Mass and Tradition in 2013. Consecrated to Our Lady via de Montfort’s formula in December 2014. I had been planning for SiriusXM to “whack me” since 2012 and had laid the structural groundwork for the next step in my career: launching the Veritas Radio Network and The CRUSADE Channel. On November 1st, 2015, in a video webcast for the press, I announced the VRN and that on November 15th, the Mike Church Show would be silent no more and would return to the air, this time on a platform custom built for LIVE talk radio. Smaller Government is Better! Avoid the Chastisement! It’s your hitchhiker’s guide to faux conservative news!

Every test in life makes us bitter or better, every problem comes to break us or make us. The choice is ours whether we become Victim or Victor. - Tammy S. Ernst       Tammy Ernst sounds like she trained at the same martial arts school as me. This quote from Tammy is very similar to the "mantra" we stated at the beginning and end of each class in our dojo. Shiken haramitsu daikoumyo This sacred Buddhist mantra in Japanese is taught and used by all members of the Bujinkan Dojo. The meaning as explained by my Sensei when I started training was: "In every encounter or experience in life, we have the chance to gain total enlightenment. It's up to us to determine if those experiences are positive or negative." This phrase became my mantra for life. This is how I like to look at the experiences I have in life. I try to look at all of them as positive as I can. You can see how Tammy's quote is so similar. Every test in life makes us bitter or better, every problem comes to break us or make us. The choice is ours whether we become Victim or Victor. We choose whether we will be better or bitter. We choose to let our experiences break us or make us. We choose to be the Victim or the Victor. It's a tough choice for some, easy for many. Unfortunately, most people choose to be the Victim. They choose to let the tough life experiences break them, they choose to be bitter. What do you choose? Are you a Victim or a Victor? Are you going to let life's experiences break you or make you. Will you choose bitterness or Betterness! Join me in choosing to be a Victor. Welcome to Episode 176 of Broadcast Geeks! On this podcast we discuss all things geek and nerd related, provided our DVR’s have space and our Netflix accounts are our own and none others.  This week, the Geeks (Mitch, Jake, Jeff and Matt Orrin), joined by Roger Norquist, are back in the space known as Davey Jones Locker, formerly known as the Quantum Realm, to discuss all things geek.  With Disney+ in our lives (not Mitch's!!) its hard to talk about anything else!  We spent the majority of this episode talking about the Mandalorian and the greater Star Wars universe.  What's up with that Yodito?  Is he a clone of Yoda, or an offspring?  We know so little about his race so it's all speculation.  However, we know it's about 50 years old, which would put him back to the time when Anakin was "conceived".  Coincidence? We also talked more about the Joker movie, which Jake and Jeff highly recommend despite its "dirty" feel.  We also discuss whether or not we should expect to see that Joker appear in the new Batman movie.  It sounds like they might be doing a Long Halloween, at least based on the number of villains they have already casted.  Having a Joker in there would be great! Lastly, Jake talks about the TMNT reunion of Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird on the documentary, Toys that Make Us.  He was really excited, and a bit touched, about how they were gonna work on #100 issue of TMNT together in the future.  This shows balance in the Force! Stephen Covey wrote the book “The Speed of Trust.” It argues that projects can be completed more quickly when each partner trusts his teammates to complete their tasks.Trust between project partners is essential on a fast-track construction project. You’ll hear from the team members how Dignity Health, Devenney Architects, McCarthy Building Companies, and TDIndustries worked collaboratively to provide the best value in the shortest duration at Chandler Regional Health Center and How Dignity Health’s “hold the line” mindset helped control quality, increase transparency on Phoenix-area hospital design-build expansion. To receive Valerie's Voice free monthly Leadership Tips and to learn more about her leadership programs and coaching, visit her website: https://valerieandcompany.com/ Listen and watch Doing it Right the Stories that Make Us- https://bit.ly/2E483Hx Subscribe, rate, and write a review on Apple Podcast- https://apple.co/2SHDDmo Subscribe on Google Podcast- https://bit.ly/2I8i6zn Follow Valerie Sokolosky Online: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/valeriesokoloskyFacebook:https://www.facebook.com/ValerieAndCompany

This week, Car Con Carne crosses over with the "Make Us a Mixtape" podcast, hosted by comedians Paul Faravhar and Marty DeRosa. The premise is simple: Their weekly guest makes them a 5-song mixtape and they collectively talk about the tape, song by song. I chose "Chicago music" as my theme. Here's what we talked about this week, over food from Big & Littles: Paul says Portillo's makes the best Chicago burger. Marty: "(Picking Portillo's as the best) is a coward's move." The art of crafting a mixtape. The tyranny of "Make Us a Mixtape"s rules. Guilty pleasures: Are they bullshit? How do you eat your food? One item at a time? My love of Kuma's. My first playlist created for this episode, which was rejected. The quintessential Chicago band when I was young: Naked Raygun. The appeal of "album play" concerts. Paul doesn't know his Adam Ant history. I assigned him homework. The 90s in Chicago music. Paul blames record companies for shitty music. Indie rock is alive and well in Chicago. Guitars are alive and well in Chicago. James: "I hate Lollapalooza." Paul (shocked): "WHY?" Paul likes going to Lollapalooza to hang out in the VIP section. Paul: "Do you remember the band Live?" James: (inaudible eye roll) "I know a lot of recovering Limp Bizkit fans" The charm of AM Taxi, and their emergence from the suburban scene. The best concert I ever saw... it was a whiiiiiiile ago. Paul thought mosh pits started in the 90s. Metro is clearly the best rock club. I wasn't young enough or punk enough for Fireside shows. The legacy of Wesley Willis. Rock over London, Rock on Chicago! Paul made a post-break-up mix tape for an ex. Marty and I understand that as being a fucked up move. Counting Crows completely fucking suck. Paul: "You have to admit that at the time, (Counting Crows)... " Me: "No." Paul: "They were the biggest thing.... " James: "No."
