Day 5 of the Duane “Keffe D” Davis Trial: The Last Photo, the Documentary Interviews, and Davis's Own WordsOn Day 5 of the murder trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis, charged in the 1996 killing of Tupac Shakur, the prosecution continued building its case with eyewitness testimony, documentary filmmakers, and more of Davis's recorded statements to police. The day opened with Leonard Jefferson, the man who took what is widely regarded as the last known photograph of Tupac Shakur alive. Jefferson testified that he was in Las Vegas for the Mike Tyson fight, sold his tickets in the MGM Grand lobby, and later found himself stopped at a red light next to the BMW carrying Tupac and Suge Knight. He snapped a 35mm photo of the pair before following the convoy onto Flamingo Road. Moments later he heard gunfire, saw the BMW make a U-turn, and watched as Suge Knight emerged yelling that “Pac is shot.” Jefferson later returned to the scene at a detective's request and turned over the film. He pushed back against online conspiracy theories claiming he staged the famous image.Next on the stand was Mario Diaz, showrunner and director of the BET docuseries Death Row Chronicles. Diaz detailed two formal interviews he conducted with Davis in 2017, confirmed Davis was paid for his participation, and walked the jury through how the series incorporated portions of Davis's earlier recorded statements to investigators. He testified that the interviews were unscripted and that no questions were provided in advance.Prosecutors then played extended audio from a voluntary September 2009 police interview in which Davis described the night of the shooting in detail. Five days into the Tupac Shakur murder trial, the case against Duane "Keffe D" Davis is built almost entirely from his own recordings. The newest one played for jurors contains his unfiltered reaction to learning Tupac was dead. This recap covers the September 2009 interview in full. Davis describes a search that began at Club 662 after the MGM Grand beating of Orlando Anderson. He describes a Glock from a secret compartment, a handoff to the back seat, and five or six shots he says Orlando fired at Suge Knight. Davis even asked the Las Vegas detective to step out of the room partway through, continuing his account with only the LAPD detective and his own lawyer present. The television chapter got its own testimony. Davis took money for a docuseries, and a sealed federal proffer recording traveled from investigators to a director's editing bay. A defamation letter from Sean Combs' attorney over a related documentary never turned into a lawsuit. Combs has denied any role in the killing, has never been a suspect, and is charged with nothing here. Friday closed with Davis rising to accuse the prosecutor of ruining his life. For fifteen years, the government held a recording of Duane "Keffe D" Davis explaining his role in the death of Tupac Shakur, and no charge followed. The Tupac trial in Las Vegas just showed the jury why that changed.The 2008 interview ran under a proffer agreement, which Davis later called the deal of a lifetime, and it legally blocked prosecutors from building a case out of what he said in the room. On the recording, detectives tell him directly that his statements cannot be used against him. Jurors heard those assurances played back in open court.They also heard what Davis did with the protection. Day 2 of the Tupac murder trial just delivered the first real courtroom fireworks. Nearly 30 years after Tupac Shakur was gunned down in a drive-by near the Las Vegas Strip, Duane “Keffe D” Davis is finally on trial for orchestrating the killing. On Day 2, the prosecution continued building its case with crime scene evidence, autopsy details, and testimony from people who were deep inside the Death Row and Compton worlds.Former Las Vegas crime scene analyst Thomas Kern walked the jury through the physical evidence recovered from Tupac's body and the scene. Medical examiner Dr. Lisa Gavin reviewed the original autopsy findings and confirmed the fatal gunshot wounds that ended the rapper's life six days after the shooting. Then the temperature rose. He gave his testimony via closed-circuit television from the White House to Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr's grand jury, concerning his relationship with a White House intern—and that same evening, he addressed the nation to admit he had misled the public about it.The legal machinery that brought a president to that moment is worth understanding. It began, improbably, with a civil lawsuit: Paula Jones's sexual-harassment suit, which produced the 1997 Supreme Court decision in Clinton v. The Tupac Shakur murder trial is about to begin in Las Vegas, and the prosecution's case is unlike any other murder case in modern memory. The defendant allegedly got himself arrested by spending over a decade publicly describing his role in the killing.Duane "Keffe D" Davis provided a proffer to the LAPD in 2008. He appeared on BET's "Death Row Chronicles." He published his account in a book. He gave interviews. In each one, he placed himself in the white Cadillac, described providing the gun, and detailed the motive — retaliation for a physical altercation at the MGM Grand hours before the shooting on September 7, 1996.Las Vegas police had all of this by 2009. They did not charge Davis until September 2023 — fourteen years later. The arrest came after a grand jury indictment triggered in part by the publication of his own memoir.Davis now claims innocence. He says he made up the entire story for financial gain. In this episode of Seeing Them Live, Charles interviews Alan Rosenberg. Alan is the creator and host of The Alan Rosenberg Show on YouTube, a channel dedicated to his lifelong passion for music. Growing up on Long Island, New York, Alan was introduced to rock and roll at an early age through his older sister, whose bedroom walls were covered in posters of The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and The Allman Brothers. By age 10, Alan was already building what would become a meticulously catalogued collection of over 5,000 albums — all of which he has listened to multiple times. In this episode, Alan takes host Charles Zona through the roots of his obsession, including the typed yearly album lists he kept starting in 1973, a tradition handed down from his sister that eventually evolved into a comprehensive digital database tracking every album he owns, every song on it, its chart position, and the year he acquired it. Alan shares vivid memories from more than five decades of concert-going, starting with his very first show — The Rolling Stones at Madison Square Garden in June 1975, featuring the legendary Lotus Stage and a then-new Ron Wood sitting in as guest guitarist. From there, the conversation moves through highlights including the Stones' massive Steel Wheels Tour at Shea Stadium, a Simon & Garfunkel reunion in Central Park, and what Alan calls perhaps his most purely fun concert experience: seeing The Rolling Stones at the intimate MGM Grand in Las Vegas during the 1999 No Security Tour. A standout moment from the episode is Alan's account of seeing U2 at The Sphere in Las Vegas — a venue he discovered before it became widely known — where the crystal-clear, immersive sound system left him calling it one of the greatest concert experiences of his life. The conversation also covers some of Alan's more disappointing experiences, including a Hackney Diamonds-era Rolling Stones show at MetLife Stadium where the sound quality was, in his words, "atrocious," and a Van Halen reunion show at Jones Beach that failed to deliver. Beyond the concert stories, Charles and Alan dive deep into the philosophy behind The Alan Rosenberg Show, where Alan refuses to review a new album until he has listened to it at least five times — sometimes eight or nine — because, as he puts it, music is deeply personal and mood-dependent. He discusses the decline of new music on classic rock radio, the fearlessness of artists like David Gilmour who still play entire new albums on tour, and why he believes the era of great classic rock concert experiences has fundamentally changed due to ticket prices, stadium sound problems, and the industry's shift toward playing only the hits. Alan also touches on his love of deluxe box sets, his growing appreciation for Taylor Swift's Midnights, and the warm, knowledgeable community he has built around his YouTube channel, which now features close to 600 videos. This week in Vegas history: June 4, 2020, Nevada casinos reopened after the COVID-19 shutdown.   After more than two months closed, casinos across Las Vegas began reopening, including properties on the Strip, downtown, and around the valley. The D and Golden Gate reopened at 12:01 a.m., while other properties followed later that day.  NEWS:   Fertitta Entertainment is buying Caesars Entertainment in a deal valued at $17.6 billion, including about $11.9 billion in assumed debt. The deal would take Caesars private. Shareholders would receive $31 per share, which Reuters describes as nearly a 50% premium to Caesars' stock price before the deal was first reported in February. Tilman Fertitta's company already owns Golden Nugget casinos, the Houston Rockets, and a large restaurant/hospitality portfolio, including brands like Rainforest Café and Bubba Gump Shrimp. Caesars has been under pressure from softer Las Vegas visitation and growing competition in online betting, where rivals like FanDuel and DraftKings are stronger. Caesars' current leadership is expected to stay, including CEO Tom Reeg and CFO Bret Yunker. The deal includes a “go-shop” period through July 11, meaning Caesars can still consider competing offers. If completed, the acquisition would give Fertitta a much larger casino footprint: Caesars controls more than 50 casinos across North America, including Caesars Palace, Harrah's, and Eldorado, plus retail and online sports betting. The article notes the deal could face regulatory scrutiny because of the size and scope of the combined gaming/hospitality business. Vital Vegas reports that a private grand opening party for the newly rebranded Vanderpump Hotel will be held on June 11.   The Heart Attack Grill closed abruptly on May 18. The property posted a passive aggressive rant on their door, stating that the closure was due to casinos pricing out average Americans.   EDC goes to two weekends next year The plan was billed as a way to reduce crowds by spreading them out over two weekends, lol The first of those weekends, “EDC Dusk,” will roll out from May 14-16. The second, “EDC Dawn,” is set for May 21-23, while the full “Dusk Till Dawn Experience” will party from May 13-24.    Johnny Kats is reporting that a new magic-based show “Now You See Me Live” will be moving into the David Copperfield theater at MGM Grand.   Soul Belly BBQ, has opened a new location in the Miracle Mile shops.   New Mirage bar at MGM Grand pool. A user on reddit posted photos of signs at the MGM Grand pool area, directing patrons to a new “Mirage Bar,” complete with the former strip property's iconic palm trees logo.  A look at the pool complex map on the MGM Grand website confirms the change. The site was formerly called the “Splash Bar” and is located between the “Splash Pool” and “Reserve Pool.” MGM Resorts has retained the rights to the Mirage name after selling the Mirage resort site to Hard Rock International.   Tailgate Social, Mandalay Bay's answer to Stadium Swim at Circa downtown, officially opened on May 16. Snoop Dogg performed at the opening The 50,000-square-foot venue features more than 125 feet of LED screens, three heated pools, 25 luxury cabanas, and two premium bungalows    The Clark County commission will be voting to extend the annual Las Vegas Grand Prix, potentially through 2037.   Nellie's Southern Kitchen Closing: The Jonas family restaurant near MGM Grand closed after May 25 service, reducing Southern comfort food options on the Strip.    Drink Las Vegas, a culinary and cocktail festival, will run from Sept. 24 through 27 at four MGM Resorts properties: Aria, Bellagio, The Cosmopolitan, Park MGM. “Drink Las Vegas” will incorporate an opening party, panels and seminars, food and cocktail tastings, lunches, dinners and other experiences at more than 30 venues inside the properties. The event recently announced the chefs, restaurateurs, mixologists, sommeliers and other hospitality professionals who are participating.    Virgin Hotels Las Vegas is reporting its strongest casino performance since reopening in 2021. The property has adjusted its focus to Las Vegas residents first-quarter 2026 data showed slot revenue up nearly 30 percent, coin-in up 10 percent, and table games revenue up 88 percent compared to the same period in 2025.    Tony: Vital Vegas reports the Luxor is getting a new atrium light show. No word on when the show will debut.   The Vegas Golden Knights swept the Colorado Avalanche in round 3 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs This is the third time the team has become the Western Conference champions in their 9-year history Though the Eastern Conference champions are still undecided at the time of recording, it's likely that the Golden Knights will face the Carolina Hurricanes in their bid for another Stanley Cup win.    Oceans 11 returning to theaters Ocean's Eleven is returning to theaters nationwide on June 21 and June 24, 2026, for a special 25th-anniversary re-release as part of Fathom Entertainment's Big Screen Classics series. Mopreme Shakur, acting as administrator of the estate of Mutulu Shakur, filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court on April 28, 2026, naming Duane "Keffe D" Davis and John Does 1 through 100 as defendants in connection with the September 7, 1996, murder of Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas. The complaint alleges a conspiracy to murder Tupac that extended beyond the individuals present in the white Cadillac from which the fatal shots were fired near the MGM Grand. Davis — an alleged member of the South Side Compton Crips — is the only individual ever criminally charged in the case. He was indicted by a Clark County grand jury on September 29, 2023, for first-degree murder with use of a deadly weapon with intent to promote a criminal street gang. He has pled not guilty. His criminal trial is scheduled for August 10, 2026. The civil complaint specifically cites grand jury transcripts and the Netflix documentary "Sean Combs: The Reckoning" as sources of evidence supporting the broader conspiracy theory. Sean Combs is not named as a defendant, though the John Doe designations leave open the possibility of amended filings as discovery proceeds. The family's 1997 wrongful death suit, filed by Afeni Shakur against alleged triggerman Orlando Anderson, was dismissed following Anderson's death. The current filing argues new evidence makes the case legally distinct. Mutulu Shakur died in 2023.
