In this episode, Angela Lockwood explores the concept of whether we make our health and wellbeing too complicated. She reflects on the overwhelming amount of information and ads related to health and wellbeing that she encounters while mindlessly scrolling on social media. Angela discusses the impact of algorithms on shaping our view of health and the challenges of keeping up with constantly changing health messages. She encourages listeners to simplify their approach to health and wellbeing by focusing on one area that needs improvement and taking small, consistent steps towards change. Episode Takeaways The algorithms on social media shape the way we view health and wellbeing, often bombarding us with overwhelming information and ads. Constantly changing health messages and research can make it difficult to know what is best for our health and wellbeing. Simplifying our approach to health and focusing on one area that needs improvement can help us take consistent action. The best strategy for our health is the one that we will actually use.. “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” Jim ElliotWhat does it mean to truly surrender to God unconditionally? Is it a one-and-done decision, or is there more to it? Sharon and Philip discuss personal stories of major moments of surrender in their own lives and share many scriptures to help you get a better picture of what surrendering to God really means and why it's so important for your destiny in Him. Cosmic Cop or Loving Lord? The Influence of Parenting on Our View of God, Submission, and Contentment
California is hoping to solve a massive homeless problem with a change in the state constitution. One lawmaker is proposing an amendment that proclaims “adequate housing” as a fundamental right. It's not clear what “adequate housing” would mean, but if it gets on the ballot, and it's passed by voters, it would be the first such constitutional amendment in the nation. Hi, I'm Kathy Fettke and this is Real Estate News for Investors. Please remember to subscribe to this podcast and leave us a review. Assembly Constitutional Amendment 10 Assemblyman Matt Haney of San Francisco proposed the amendment which is currently working its way through the state legislature. The measure, called Assembly Constitutional Amendment 10, would make state and local governments responsible for upholding this mandate. There would have to be some guidelines as to what's “adequate.” As reported by the Orange County Register, it could include the creation of more housing, better tenant protections, the repurposing of under-utilized or vacant properties, as well as housing subsidies. (1) What is “Adequate Housing”? Lobbyist Chris Micheli told the Register: “Some people might view ‘adequate' as merely having a roof over your head. It could also mean shelter inside a gymnasium or a large building of some sort, almost like when we have emergencies.” Or would it mean that everyone is entitled to a standalone single-family home or an apartment? Assemblymember Haney told the Orange County Register that: “California has been at the epicenter of the housing crisis” with 30% of the nation's homeless living in California. Haney says: "We have more Californians living on the street than anywhere else in the nation.” Basic Human Needs: Housing, Food, Water Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva, who supports the proposal, says the goal is to consider housing as a basic human need. She says: “There (are) really only three basic needs… and that is housing, food and water… And I think many of us grew up taking that for granted, but what we've seen over the last decade in California has not only been a housing crisis but, of course, a homeless crisis. And that's what propels me to support this.” (2) She says the big challenge is the housing shortage. There are just not enough beds for all the people who need them. She says: “We just have not kept pace with housing production in California…” That's resulted in high rents, and as as rents move higher, more people end up on the street, or they move out of state. But she says: “Many individuals are just one rent payment away from being homeless.” To get on the ballot, the proposal would need approval by a two-thirds majority in both the State Assembly and Senate by June of 2024. It received a 6 to 2 approval in the Assembly Committee on Housing and Community Development. That pushed it on to a Senate committee. (3) Concern About the Courts Setting the Standard Some of the lawmakers expressed concern about who would be responsible for setting the “adequate housing” standard. “Assemblyman Joe Patterson of Rocklin, who voted against the proposal, said: “I think the state and local governments haven't done a good job on housing which I think has contributed to homelessness, but I'm concerned about the hundreds of judges we have in California having different ideas about what this means.” Cal Matters reports that more than a hundred groups and organizations that advocate for renters and affordable housing are showing support for the proposal, while none are publicly opposing it. But, it did say that the League of California Cities has “expressed reservations.” (4) Price Tag? As for the cost of the bill, Cal Matters cited a study done in 2022 by the Corporation for Supportive Housing and the California Housing Partnership. That analysis determined that to house all the homeless people living in California, it would cost $8.1 billion a year for the next 12 years. Before that, in 2020, Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed a bill that would have guaranteed housing for everyone. He said the estimated $10 billion a year price tag was too much. Dramatic Shift in Our View of Housing The proposal would create a dramatic shift in the way we view housing. And despite the odds of it making it through the legislature, onto the ballot, and approved by voters, the end result would be game-changing. In the words of Micheli: “To have something enshrined in the constitution is very significant.” You can read more about this by following links in the show notes at newsforinvestors.com. "We know that we're not powerless against wildfires. It's a question of, 'what are the steps? What are the actions that really make a difference?'" -Alister Watt "Wildfire doesn't acknowledge boundaries— we need to be thinking about resilience and preparedness with that in mind." -Daniel Gorham Episode Description: When it comes to disasters, building materials are not just useful—they're essential. Every time we build something that can help prevent fires from happening or spreading, we're influencing how wildfire impacts our properties and the community we live in. The Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), an independent, 501 (C) nonprofit scientific research and communications organization, works to provide practical solutions to build more resilient communities. This week, we are joined by the organization's Chief Product Officer Alister Watt and Research Engineer, Daniel Gorham to talk about how our choice of building materials can make a difference during a disaster. They also help us understand the trend of fires in the wildlands vs urban communities, how the layout of an environment influences the extent and gravity of a disaster's impact, why we need to change our view of aesthetics, what ember casts are and how to prevent them from entering our homes, and how Wildfire Prepared, a project of IBHS, can help us get better insured. Two years ago in episode 21, I told you the story of one-year-old Sereniti Sutley, whose mother found her gravely injured in her crib on the morning of October 7, 2017. Sereniti was rushed to the hospital in Conneaut, Ohio, where she was pronounced dead. Although almost five years have passed since Sereniti's death, the man accused of her murder, Joshua Gurto, still has not faced a jury for his crimes. In July of 2022, Ashtabula County Prosecutor Colleen O'Toole filed a motion with the court to dismiss six of the eight charges against him and to drop his remaining murder charge to mere involuntary manslaughter. In this episode, you'll hear my conversation with Sereniti's great-aunt, Bobbie Blankenship; grandma, Melissa Sutley; and dad, Brandon Sutley, who shared with me their frustration over the length of the court process and the unwillingness of the current prosecutor to seek justice for the little princess they lost almost five years ago.Sereniti deserves justice.Links discussed in this episode: Justice for Sereniti rally: https://www.facebook.com/events/5610584922294505 Contact Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost: https://www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov/contactContact Ohio Governor Mike DeWine: https://governor.ohio.gov/contact Write to visiting Judge Patricia Cosgrove c/o April Daniels, Clerk of Courts: https://courts.co.ashtabula.oh.us/clerk_of_courts.htm Contact Ashtabula County Prosecutor Colleen O'Toole: https://www.ashtabulacounty.us/directory.aspx?EID=13 OUR VIEW opinion article: https://www.starbeacon.com/opinion/our-view-lesser-charges-against-gurto-do-not-represent-justice/article_9d520d54-0b9b-11ed-baab-8f19e1a1e3ce.html Article about family's reaction: https://www.starbeacon.com/news/local_news/serenitis-family-reacts-to-possibility-of-lesser-charges-for-gurto/article_065093b6-0e8f-11ed-b98d-272ed2900542.html Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodYou can also follow the podcast on: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/sufferthelittlechildrenpodcast Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTumblr: https://www.tumblr.com/blog/sufferthelittlechildrenpodPinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpod My Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. There is God's mercy. Then there is OUR VIEW of God's mercy.Though it sounds crazy, a story is told today of a group of people who look at God's mercy with a STINK-EYE. That is they look at God's GOODNESS with an EVIL EYE. Basically, they say, "I don't like it", or at least, "I think I could do better," "I know best."Jonah had the same problem. When the Lord relented His judgment over the very very very evil Ninevites, it DISPLEASED JONAH EXCEEDINGLY. Lord, you are not merciful like I would be merciful. I know better than You. Why can't You be like me?The problem in today's passage is NOT God's mercy. That is wonderful. That is generous. It is above our pay grade and beyond our earning. The problem is my stinking, wrong, worried, narcissistic view of it. I look at Your amazing work with my begrudging eye. As the scripture asks, "Do you begrudge my generosity?" Well, yes. Yes I do.Let's look at our eyes today. Listen and see if yours stink as much as in the Bible. Thanks for listening! Have you subscribed at www.bewithme.us yet?

Then decided he wanted to work in a different place, so he went back to school for Enology. He is a native San Franciscan so that brought him home. He caught the fermentation bug from being a home brewer. Before we continue with Alex Holman, Dan Berger has brought another "cellar dweller" from his extensive personal wine collection, to taste and discuss. This one is a 2004 Syrah from Brandborg Vineyard & Winery in Elkton, Oregon. Dan says they have the most fun tasting room in southern Oregon. This wine has flavors of black pepper, raspberry and a bit of fresh plum. Dan says their wines are a great value at modest prices. Alex Holman detects some aroma of violets in it too. He likes that as a descriptor for Syrah and for him, that's a sign of a good one, when it's present. The Notre Vue property consists of 700 acres, 310 are devoted to forever wild open space. The Notre Vue website has a lot of pictures and descriptions of the property and the wildlife that lives there. They have about 220-240 planted acres with 16 varietals. The property is in Windsor, a half mile east of the freeway, up to the top of the hills. The Kinkade fire came through the property. It burned 80 miles of irrigation lines. They did manage to harvest some fruit and the rest of the work this time around has been a struggle. They sell more grapes than they bring into their own winery and contracts have been "difficult" this year. The testing labs were so booked up that it took 6 weeks to get his results on smoke taint tests. Dan says the soil type is different than most of their neighbors. The property is split between Chalk Hill and Russian River AVAs. The southwestern quadrant is ancient sea bed, more clay soils, higher magnesium. The northern part has the volcanic Chalk Hill soils. Their Bordeaux and Rhône styles are doing well up on the rocky soils, whereas their Pinot and Chard vines are in the lower areas. Alex Holman says, "A wise man once told me that wine is made from fruit, so that should be your first flavor." The Chardonnay they are tasting is "nice and dry, and lovely," says Steve Jaxon. Dan Berger says that one thing that is appealing about this tasting is that it is not too cold. Alex says it is important to have sweet and spicy oak. He pays a lot of attention to his coopers, that they are not overbearing. Notre Vue has a lot of open space and lakeside pavillions where they have tastings. Block 23 has a beautiful view of the valley. It is a great place to watch the planes when they do air shows. They are open daily by appointment only 10:30 to 4:00. They can also host special events for small groups of 8-10 and up to 40 people. Bob and Renée Stein have owned the property since 1992. They have two labels. Ten years ago, the property was called Windsor Oaks and before that it was Balverne. When they transformed from Windsor Oaks, Balverne became the three-tier brand with national distribution. Notre Vue is their special lots, only available on the estate. Bottle Barn would have Balverne rather than Notre Vue. He explains how the different labels are derived from different clones. They are also tasting a Rosé. Dan says these is a lot like Rhône wines, blends of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. Dan says so much Sonoma County Rosé is made from Pinot Noir,

#STORYPOWER IS HOW CHILDHOOD STORIES SHAPE OR SABOTAGE TODAY'S SUCCESS by J Loren Norris Most people have a slightly different view of their “growing up life” than their parents or even their siblings have of the same time period. This is because we all want to believe the very best about ourselves. We will naturally preserve “self” in the most threatening circumstances, even if that's in the story of a memorable event. NEXT LEVEL: The next level of #storypower truth is this: we carry OUR VIEW of that story forward into life. It becomes a BELIEF SYSTEM around which we make decisions. We decide if someone else is good or bad. We decide if an idea, a culture, a class or race of people, a social structure, an economic policy is GOOD OR BAD based on our own perceptions. These perceptions are often shaped by learning, by lecture, by leaders or by personal experiences. These personal experiences are FILTERED through our beliefs, which started with our CHILDHOOD STORIES. Are you with me so far? TAINTED CORRUPTED STORIES: If you “grew up” in an era when racism was common, when bigotry dominated Main Street, when sexism was “how business was done” then the stories you heard about negotiating a deal, closing a sale, getting the big win, WERE ALL TAINTED, skewed and corrupt!!! LYING STORIES: ]If you “grew up” in a time, place and environment where you were never right, never trusted, never accepted because of your sex, sexual orientation or skin color, your own internal stories are likely corrupt as well. You have been lied to so long you will start to believe the lies, internalize the lies, repeat the lies, tell stories about your childhood which reinforce the lies. IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL, you will live today as if those lies are true. CHOICE TO CHANGE: Childhood stories will either SHAPE or SABOTAGE your success! It is time to apply #storypower to those childhood memories and REWRITE each incident to realign the past with the truth, until they reconcile and resonate with your ideal future! Special Guest Speaker: Alex Morice 2 Corinthians 5:16-21 (NASB) 16 Therefore from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no longer. 17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 18 Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. Outline:1) Our View of Christ 2) Our View of Creation
Our View from the Gwladys Street podcast is back and with regular host Ian Croll laid low by illness, stand-in Paul Wheelock is joined by guests Rob Astell and Connor Bennett. The trio talk the Manchester City defeat and the major talking points from it, from Everton’s best centre-back system to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ademola Lookman, and to the importance of Idrissa Gueye and the two of the players – one unexpected – who could replace the Senegalese if he misses out on Everton’s festive schedule. It’s a schedule that kicks off with the visit of Tottenham Hotspur to Goodison Park on Sunday and the lads wonder whether yet another Blues hoodoo can be banished and lift spirits after what has been a testing couple of weeks. Not for the first time this season, the P words, patience and perspective, are uttered. As we were going on air, the club announced it is proposing a capacity of 52,000 for a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock – and Rob and Connor give their instant reaction. And for the authoritative take on what is a big topic of debate among Evertonians, make sure to check out our latest Royal Blue podcast, featuring Phil Kirkbride, Dave Prentice and the rest of the ECHO’s Everton reporting team, when it is released on Friday (December 21).
