When Amro Elansari was muted while playing the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMO) Runescape, he decided to sue Runescape's developer Jagex. But while his complaints were dismissed easily enough (you can't bring a 1st Amendment claim against private actors, among other things), the way such dismissal was reported gave too much precedential power to what was otherwise a rather unremarkable legal skirmish. What happened in the case? What was it about? And why is it inaccurate to say, without qualification, that 'being 'muted' in a game does not violate your civil rights'? Video gaming is going through a transition - slowly transforming itself from an industry built to create single player narrative epics, to one focused on delivering live service, always online, social experiences. But then, what is a company like CD Projekt RED along with their crown jewel "Witcher" franchise, firmly rooted in the "epic" category, to do? Netflix, Disney Plus, and the upcoming streaming wars of the 2020s might just offer (at least part of) the way forward. It's all about branding the Butcher of Blaviken...in Virtual Legality. Außerdem geht es um den #metoo-Moment der Spielebranche, die Nintendo Switch und Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm RebornInhalt: 00:00:00 - 00:53:46 Spielewoche00:53:46 - 01:42:20 Presseschau01:42:20 - 02:15:45 Thema der WocheShownotes:Fans hinter der Absperrung (Petra Fröhlich) calling out my rapist (Nathalie Lawhead)Several high-profile game developers publicly accused of sexual assault (Andrew Webster) Two Women Accuse Skyrim Composer Jeremy Soule Of Sexual Misconduct (Cecilia D'Anastasio)Night in the Woods co-creator Alec Holowka has died (Owen S.
