Oregon State University will play its first game of the new college football season next Saturday. The Beavers will also be competing this year in an expanded Pac-12 Conference that features six other football teams joining OSU and Washington State University. Gonzaga is also now a member of Pac-12, competing in basketball and other sports.     The Pac-12’s new roster brings some relief for the future of the 110-year-old athletic conference. OSU and WSU were the only teams left in the Pac-12 after the 2023 football season following the departure of the Oregon Ducks, Washington Huskies and eight other teams for other conferences.     Fans will be able to see all of the Pac-12 football games this season on broadcast TV or via streaming under media distribution deals the conference secured with CBS, The CW, CBS Sports and USA Network.    Kevin Griffin is vice president and director of athletics at OSU. He joins us to talk about the new Pac-12 and the team’s prospects this season under new head football coach JaMarcus Shephard. 

Two genuinely ridiculous things crossed Hawk's desk today, and they rhyme. First, The Atlantic reports that with his approval parked in the low thirties, the president sat his advisors down to figure out how to spend a roughly $400 million super PAC war chest, and the master plan they landed on is more of himself. The diagnosis from his own team is that voters just haven't been properly introduced to his accomplishments yet, which is a bold thing to say about the most photographed man alive. The cure is ads. About him. Problem solved. Then there's the convention. Parties hold conventions in presidential years. Everybody knows this except, apparently, the people planning a two night Trump convention in Dallas on September 9th and 10th, keynote speaker both nights, him. It lands on NFL opening night, which is a fight with the NFL that the NFL does not know it is in and will win anyway. And the cover charge is the punchline: House candidates reportedly pay their own super PAC to walk in, tiered all the way up to a six figure package Hawk reads out with the delight it deserves. His take, more or less: if you were trying to lose on purpose, it would look a lot like this. Democrats trail Republicans in cash by nine figures. The DNC reported $16 million on hand against $17.9 million in debt. The RNC reported $130 million. Peter Schweizer and Eric Eggers follow the money filling the gap, and most of it comes from senior citizens. A Stanford researcher spent eight months preparing an investigation for The New York Times. Fact checkers cleared it. Lawyers cleared it. Then the Elias Law Group sent cease and desist letters on behalf of Democratic committees, and the paper walked away. What the research found: a spam text pipeline built to squeeze a captive pool of elderly donors. An 85 year old man in Oxford, Ohio gave 7,800 times, nearly $650,000, more than double the value of his house. A 90 year old woman in an Indiana senior living facility gave more than 25,000 times, $250,000 in total. Fewer than 1% of Democrat donors account for almost half of the $1.4 billion these PACs have raised since 2017. One network alone pulled in $390 million. Most of the money never reaches a candidate. It recycles back into the fundraising operation. Hakeem Jeffries shows the shift in one chart. In 2018, his average donor was 54 and 21% were 65 or older. This cycle, his average donor is 73 and 86% are senior citizens. Then the midterm ledger. Ripple and Coinbase sit at the top of $230 million in special interest spending, ahead of Big Tech and Wall Street. FanDuel and DraftKings make the top six. George Soros has given more than $102 million this year. Today's Headlines: The Wall Street Journal revealed that Trump personally called a senior DOJ official to settle the antitrust lawsuit against Live Nation — days before trial, after Live Nation's CEO met with Trump at the White House to "discuss Kennedy Center bookings". Live Nation reportedly promised $10 billion in US investment in exchange for a favorable settlement so generous that most states refused to join it and kept suing, ultimately winning a jury verdict in April finding Live Nation illegally monopolizing the concert ticketing market. The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 to let Trump's mail-in voting restrictions move forward — not on whether they're constitutional, but on whether states had legal standing to sue — meaning DHS is now distributing citizenship lists to states and the Postal Service will only send ballots to pre-approved voters, with each state left to decide whether to comply before the Court rules on the actual merits, which is a convenient timeline heading into November. The Court also let Trump's ballroom-bunker construction continue while they decide whether it can continue. Yes, you read that right. On the immigration beat, the Trump administration is planning the largest mass visa revocation in US history, targeting up to 200,000 B1 and B2 visas held by asylum seekers issued between 2016 and 2026. And because somehow we are still at war with Iran even after “winning” several times, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent held an event threatening any country that does business with Iran with "the full reach of American power" under something called Operation Economic Outcast, without specifying any actual steps or deadlines, while Iran's trading partners apparently told them they don't really care. Tics are common in childhood, but recognizing when they are part of typical development, and when they may indicate Tourette syndrome or another tic disorder, can be challenging for pediatricians. A child repeatedly blinks during a well visit. A parent mentions a new throat-clearing sound that has been happening for weeks. Soon comes the question pediatricians hear often: "Should I be worried?"  In this episode, we take a closer look at tics and Tourette syndrome, helping pediatricians distinguish common childhood tics from situations that may warrant further evaluation. We'll explore the natural history of tic disorders, common co-occurring conditions, and practical strategies for counseling and supporting families.  Joining us for this conversation is Chelsey Stillman, PA-C, a physician assistant at Children's Colorado and the creator and director of the Integrative Tic Clinic. Day 5 of the Duane “Keffe D” Davis Trial: The Last Photo, the Documentary Interviews, and Davis's Own WordsOn Day 5 of the murder trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis, charged in the 1996 killing of Tupac Shakur, the prosecution continued building its case with eyewitness testimony, documentary filmmakers, and more of Davis's recorded statements to police. The day opened with Leonard Jefferson, the man who took what is widely regarded as the last known photograph of Tupac Shakur alive. Jefferson testified that he was in Las Vegas for the Mike Tyson fight, sold his tickets in the MGM Grand lobby, and later found himself stopped at a red light next to the BMW carrying Tupac and Suge Knight. He snapped a 35mm photo of the pair before following the convoy onto Flamingo Road. Moments later he heard gunfire, saw the BMW make a U-turn, and watched as Suge Knight emerged yelling that “Pac is shot.” Jefferson later returned to the scene at a detective's request and turned over the film. He pushed back against online conspiracy theories claiming he staged the famous image.Next on the stand was Mario Diaz, showrunner and director of the BET docuseries Death Row Chronicles. Diaz detailed two formal interviews he conducted with Davis in 2017, confirmed Davis was paid for his participation, and walked the jury through how the series incorporated portions of Davis's earlier recorded statements to investigators. He testified that the interviews were unscripted and that no questions were provided in advance.Prosecutors then played extended audio from a voluntary September 2009 police interview in which Davis described the night of the shooting in detail. In the recording, Davis discusses obtaining a gun (described as a .40-caliber Glock) from Eric “Zip” Martin, handing it off inside the white Cadillac, and his nephew Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson ultimately firing the shots. He also referenced Sean “Diddy” Combs and expressed regret, saying he wished the events had never happened and that meeting Combs had “messed up” his life.The day closed with testimony from filmmaker Michael Dorsey, a technical consultant on Death Row Chronicles and producer connected to the Murder Rap project.
