Part two of our series, "Kingdoms in Conflict: A Study of the Book of Daniel" Discussion/Reflection: And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with some ofthe vessels of the house of God. And he brought them tothe land of Shinar, to the house of his god,and placed the vessels in the treasury of his god. -Daniel 1:2 The strange working of Gods providence Providence: The almighty and everywhere present power of God, whereby, as it were, by his hand, he still upholds heaven and earth, with all creatures, and so governs them that herbs and grass, rain and drought, fruitful and barren years, meat and drink, health and sickness, riches and poverty, yea, all things come not by chance, but by his fatherly hand. -Heidelberg Catechism 1. What does it say about God and his providence that it was His purpose to hand His people over to exile? 2. How does this grate against what we often want Gods providence to mean? As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today. -Genesis 50:20 3. What is going on in your life or the world around you that makes it seem as though God is not in control, that He doesnt care, or that He has been defeated? God allows Himself to appear defeated at times. He often does things that we dont expect he humbled himself bybecoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. -Philippians 2:8 4. What are we called to do when life is hard and we cant see or understand what God is doing? Consider the gravity and implications of this passage in Romans 8: Nowhope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, wewait for it with patience And we know that for those who love God all things work togetherfor good, forthose who are called according to his purposeWhat then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son butgave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?...Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, For your sakewe are being killed all the day long;we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered. No, in all these things we are more thanconquerors throughhim who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. -Romans 8:24,25, 28, 31, 35-39. The dual identity of Gods people Andthe chief of the eunuchsgave them names:Daniel he called Belteshazzar, Hananiah he called Shadrach, Mishael he called Meshach, and Azariah he called Abednego. But Danielresolved that he would notdefile himself withthe king's food, or withthe wine that he drank. Therefore he asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not todefile himself. -Daniel 1:7-8 1. Daniel and his friends were renamed to reflect the pagan gods that Babylon worshiped in an attempt to redefine their identities. How does this happen in our culture today? 2. The boys were re-educated within the Babylonian cultural and intellectual framework in an attempt to reshape how they thought and saw the world. How does this attempted education and re-education happen in our culture today? 3. Daniel drew a line in the sand in his indoctrination. He found a balance in his conscience between peaceful cooperation and a firm stance on who he was as a child of God in the world. What ought it look like for us to be authentic disciples of Jesus in the circles God has placed us in and amidst pressures to conform to the culture? Where should we draw lines? How do we do so in a way that honours and represents Christ? 4. Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were initially chosen by Nebuchadnezzar because of their skill, wisdom, knowledge, and overall competence. They also stood out among the others for these reasons after being tested. This helped lead them to the positions of influence and witness they would have for the Lord within the kingdom of man. What does this teach us about how we ought to work, contribute, seek to grow in godly wisdom, and competence and skill in our craft where God has placed us? 5. What might it look like for us in our own circumstances to show the world a different and better way to live in such a way that, like D.A Carsons friend, we can say, watch me? Then the king commanded Ashpenaz, his chief eunuch, to bring some of the people of Israel, both of the royal family and ofthe nobility, youths withoutblemish, of good appearance andskillful in all wisdom, endowed with knowledge, understanding learning, and competent to stand in the king's palace, and toteach them the literature and language of theChaldeans. -Daniel 1:3-4 Consider Jesus words to the 12 - Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so bewise as serpents andinnocent as doves. -Matthew 10:16 The sustaining nature of Gods grace 1. What does it mean that God sustains us and grants us favour and success by His grace as we live in the kingdom of man? 2. When you are able to stand firm in your faith in difficult circumstances, when you achieve a measure of success, receive blessing or favour, what is the immediate response in your heart? Is it thankfulness, praise, humility, knowing that it is entirely by Gods grace? Or is your knee-jerk reaction to conclude that youve earned it, deserve it, and can keep winning by your own ingenuity? We hold that man is never so near grace as when he begins to feel he can do nothing at allBetween here and heaven, every minute that the Christian lives will be a minute of grace. -Charles Spurgeon The surprising veracity of Gods servants And Danielwas there until the first year ofKing Cyrus. -Daniel 1:21 1. God already indicates to us how this story ends By Gods grace Daniel outlasted every kingdom of man through Israels entire exile. What about the world and the powers of our culture would tempt us to forget that God is on the throne, that He has already won the victory, that His kingdom will not fail? TheLordhasestablished his throne in the heavens, and hiskingdom rules over all. -Psalm 103:19 He put another parable before them, saying,The kingdom of heaven is likea grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches. -Matthew 13:31-32 2. Do you struggle to tangibly trust God and live with confident hope when the world and your circumstances look bleak and you cant see what God is doing? How are the promises of Gods providence and His perfect goodness meant to inform our hearts, minds, and ultimately our worship? Why must we dwell on the providence and soveriegnty of our God? - That we may be patient in adversity, thankful in prosperity, and for what is future have good confidence in our faithful God and Father that no creature shall separate us from his love, since all creatures are so in his hand that without his will they can not so much as move. -Heidelberg Catechism For prayer and reflection: If someone was to follow and watch your life closely, what would they see? Is it a life clearly changed by the radical grace of God? Is there conviction to draw lines, stand on what is right and walk in the ways of the Lord when it is hard and unpopular? Is there costly, sacrificial love and service to others? A zeal to steward and develop what God has given you to bless others, see those around you flourish, and bring glory to His name? Would they see an uncommon and beautiful hope in the providence of the God who holds the heavens and the earth through every trial and storm? Spend some time in reflection and repentance where God has brought conviction in your heart. Let it sink in and give you courage that God is faithful, that all things are in His powerful and fatherly hands, that He is moving and working where you cant see it, and that absolutely nothing can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord!

Or maybe not even set them? This episode is for you. Instead of setting vague and empty resolutions, learn how to set the right goals for yourself, and how to accomplish them easily.Once more, for today’s episode, I do not have a guest, I’m taking the spotlight. I got so much good feedback from my episode #73 Yoga, chronic pain and mental health, that I decided to do some more solo episodes once in a while. Today’s episode is a skeleton or a teaser for the work we’ll do for my 5-day New Year Group-Challenge starting on January 8. I took this huge thing I teach over 5 days and boiled it down to some of the most important concepts and tools I wanted to share. So after listening to this episode, if you really want to dive into this work, but you feel overwhelmed or you don’t want to do this alone but you can’t afford one-on-one coaching, join us in my New Year Group Coaching Challenge and you'll do all this with my support and in the community at a fraction of the price. Together, we’ll get clear on your intention and your priorities. We’ll look at the area of your life that need the most attention, and set goals to move the needle forward towards what you’ve been longing to experience. We’ll plan step by step how to get there and give you the support you need to stay on track and make it happen… If you want to know more visit my website @erikabelanger.com or send me an email erika.belanger@gmail.comMY 5 BIGGEST TAKEAWAY FROM THIS EPISODE1- I work in 3 steps when setting goals: First, consider the context (past and now and lessons learned), second, create a ritual of letting go of what doesn't serve you or stands in your way, and third start the process of moving forward by cultivating confidence, opening myself, setting a goal and creating momentum.2- Get clear on your values, passions, and purpose. They are really the keys to knowing what you want. Use intuition as a way to get clear information that is not influenced by your conditioning.3- The right goal is fulfilling and in alignment with who you are and what you want. It's big enough to create change but realistic enough to be doable. It's breakable into smaller pieces that are tangible and measurable.4- One way to stay on track is to attach meaning to your goals. Knowing why do you want to accomplish something is one of the keys to staying motivated when you are faced with challenges. The other one is to give yourself internal rewards for every milestone accomplished.5- Take care of your nervous system. It is at the origin of your thoughts and actions. Regulating the nervous system is important for long term change and repetition of positive thoughts and behaviors.TOPICS I COVERED DURING THIS EPISODESteps to set goalsHow to identify our current context? The role of appreciation and celebrationIdentifying what has helped you in the pastIdentifying what has stopped you in the pastExample of practices of letting go/forgivenessThe importance of releasing before moving forwardHow to cultivate courage and confidenceThe importance of opening yourself to new possibilitiesBeing honest with what you valueConnecting to your intuitionidentifying your passion and purposeWhat kind of goals we should set?How to create momentumHow to stop self-sabotageSUBSCRIBE, RATE & REVIEW! Having an aligned purpose in life is something everyone wants, but not everyone understands. In fact finding your purpose in life can feel like a bit of a puzzle, especially if you’re feeling stuck in life. You might be wondering where to even begin to find your purpose.I think your authenticity is where your purpose really lies. But I know, if you’re looking for your life purpose, authenticity can feel just as far out there to really tap into.In this week’s episode of UNTAPPED, I’m sitting down with celebrity manifestation and business coach Shanna Lee, to talk about how to find your purpose in life.I think the number one mistake people make when looking for their life’s purpose, is that they mistake purpose for a life that looks good on the outside. Because of that, people spend so much time searching for purpose outside of themselves and they miss what’s been under their nose this entire time. Our guest today understands that crossroad. Shanna went from being a very successful real estate agent to a soul aligned business owner. The path didn’t make logical sense, nor did it make sense to the people in her life, but Shanna knew this was the right path for her. Before she made this move, she felt like she was out of alignment and only focusing on the external world instead of her inner peace and happiness. She was ready to reignite her passions and truly live her purpose. Now she is an expert in leading purpose-driven individuals and supporting the development of their core mission from the ground up.Shanna believes we are naturally here to be fulfilled and joyful, and I couldn’t agree more.If you’re ready to tap into your purpose and manifest a life even better than your dreams, tune into Episode 89 here!In this episode we uncover: How and where to find your life purposeThe number one reason people don’t make changeHow your authenticity is your superpower Why clarity is so important to finding your purposeWhat labels you need to drop in order to find successResources:Connect further with Shanna Lee on her website The Soul Frequency hereJoin Shanna’s free Facebook group The Soul Frequency VIP A great resource to start tapping into your purpose and full potential: 10 Questions To Unlock Your Potential Ready to get paid simply by being YOU?! It's been one year since April joined the podcast! Today's episode we talk about areas of growth that we have experienced, and how to be more intentional about living the life you want to live. Takeaways today are in the form of questions: MIND: How am I treating myself, and how does that reflect in how I treat others? “If you are a taskmaster with yourself, others will feel your whip. If you are critical of yourself, others will feel your high expectations of themselves as well. If you are light hearted and forgiving with yourself, others will feel the ease and joy of being with you. If you find laughter and delight in yourself, others will be healed in your presence.” Deborah Adele, Yamas and Niyamas p. 29-30 “We are mugs filled to the brim, and we keep getting bumped. If we are filled with coffee, coffee will spill out. If we are filled with tea, tea will spill out. Getting bumped is inevitable. If we want to change what spills out of us, we have to work to change what’s inside us.” - Glennon Doyle, Untamed BODY: What am I building in my life that is taking longer than I want it to? "Allow yourself to be both a masterpiece and work in progress." PURPOSE: What are you needing permission to pursue that would add to your life? I used to have a fear-based to-do list, and I didn't dare do anything outside of my designated duties and responsibilities for fear of judgement (which was really coming from myself). Learning to add space for creativity and things that nurture my soul was a life-changing shift that serves me and everyone around me. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/michelle48/message

Notice where your attention is—“Where you spend your attention, you spend your life.” -James Clear BODY: How am I using my body to experience joy? As a parent, what do I wish for my child to use their body for? PURPOSE: What am I doing that is genuinely ME? Here are three steps that I go through with my clients that can help calm your nerves and keep you from making rushed decisions. 1. Purpose What is the purpose of your investments? Think about why you decided to invest your money in the first place and then ask yourself if you will have time to recover once the market comes back up. Paper losses One of my clients calls this “ghost money,” because you don’t see any gains or losses until it’s time to use it for its intended purposes. A paper loss is only on paper, you will only see the loss or gain in value when you go to sell. 2. Purchase Look at your purchases as an opportunity to take advantage of market volatility. What wealth growing opportunities could you invest in to make the most of this time? Could you put more money into your current investments or maybe open up new ones? Prepared by Tom ByrneOverview and purposeWhat is innovative leadership? How can we be more innovative? Also, how can we promote innovation in our teams and teammates? These are all questions that I will strive to answer and expand upon for you today.Difference between inventor and innovatorThe difference is the ability to generate excitement May not be the inventorThey see something that they can get behindNot only generates excitement but also promotes the concept to othersVisionOne of the mainstay characteristics of an innovative leader is the vision to see more The ability to see the end game They are able to see the process but also work out issues as they arise The ability to take that vision and create something more than just an idea or a dreamImagination and communicationInnovative leaders have very intense imaginations. They have the ability to step back and look at the whole pictureAlso, they have the ability to communicate what they see All the imagination in the world does no good if we cannot communicateInnovative leaders must be effective communicatorsNot micro-managersThese leaders have the ability to step back and trust their teams They foster creativity and award new ideas of processesThe promotion of engagement is very important to themThe awareness of how an engaged team is more productive dictates how they attack EngagementWhen a team feels empowered to achieve the project will growIt may have all come from one small idea but a team of creative minds all working together will create something amazing.Having a team of imaginative and engaged individuals not only speeds the process but does so exponentially. So to sum it all up innovation leadership is the ability to see the grand overall scheme of exciting new avenues. To then conceptualize and elicit excitement from fellow creative thinkers through effective communication. Then have the ability to focus that excitement into the correct direction to in-turn create reality from dreams. How can we as managers be more innovative? It all begins with learning to step back and look at it all How can we empower our teams to run with it and create?Where do we need to maintain control? All the questions that we need to askWe need to ask these questions at the beginningAlso, revisit them in the middle of the projectThen review them again at the end of the projectThere will also be times when we need to assess the project and decide if we should continue forward or if it is time to end and recoup losses where possible Stepping back can be scary Empowering a team for the first time can be terrifyingBut learning to control these aspects of project management will allow you to assist where neededEffective communication and followup will be the keys to success Having some degree of expertise will assist in stepping away and empowering a team. You will have the ability to understand what the team is creatingSuccession and retentionOne side effect of empowering a team is the retention of workforce and training cost going downAlso, you create a succession plan by creating the next generation of innovative leadershipThank you for listening. “What matters is what you do next.”This is the opening section in Jeff Fromm’s newest book, The Purpose Advantage. It’s an apt statement, considering the Business Roundtable’s recent proclamation that the purpose of a corporation is to serve all stakeholders—from employees to suppliers to communities. Arguably, we’re now beyond the tipping point of capitalism. Purpose is no longer a “nice-to-have.” So, what we do next matters more than ever. In this episode, we spoke with Jeff Fromm, author, thought leader, and leader of Barkley and Futurecast, about purpose today and how Millennials and Gen Z are reshaping the role of business in society.Listen to hear Jeff’s insights on:Understanding today’s Millennials and Gen Z’ers and their evolving relationship with purpose—at work and as consumersHow to move past generational “myths” and unearth data to drive insights around purposeWhat the “purpose advantage” can achieve for brands today, and why purpose must be baked into a company’s DNA—not tacked onHow brands leverage purpose to tell meaningful stories that move consumers to actionLinks & NotesJeff FrommThe Purpose AdvantageFuturecast Barkley
Episode 75 of The Teaching Space Podcast explores five more ways teachers and trainers can improve their presentation slides. Introduction In episode 45 of The Teaching Space Podcast I explored ten ways teachers and trainers could improve their presentation slides. I recommend you listen to the episode or read the show notes. As a short recap, I covered this: Use a consistent design Use images carefully Pay attention to fonts Avoid text heavy slides Try shortlinks Embed video Keep animation minimal Use audience participation Use QR codes to share slides Try GIFs My main professional development focus this year is how I use slides (and handouts) to support learning; there’s some dual coding theory to explore here. I’ve already learned so much through reading and experimentation that I thought a follow-up episode might be in order. So, here it is. Five More Ways to Improve Your Presentations 1. Branding This one could be controversial! Some time ago, my College introduced slide templates featuring the organisation’s logo and social media icons and handles. The intentions were good. I understand the benefits of consistent presentation to the outside world (wearing my corporate hat). Another benefit was that for some colleagues, decision fatigue was reduced, along with the use of distracting fonts… Without questioning, I started using the templates. I also spent time switching old presentations I still used over to the new format. Then I attended Oliver Caviglioli’s talk at the ReserachEd National Conference in September and he prompted some questions: Is a logo really needed on all slides? Do my learners need reminding where they are? Do I want my learners to interrupt their learning to follow the organisation on social media? The answer is no. Marking guru, Seth Godin, recommends no more than six words per slide: “No more than six words on a slide. EVER. There is no presentation so complex that this rule needs to be broken.” I’m not quite there yet, but working towards this goal. The reason I bring it up, though, is that the words used in our logo and social media handles totalled far more than six. The words, and indeed the images, were superfluous and distracting. 2. Purpose What is a slide deck for? It is not a teleprompter for the teacher or trainer. Be honest, do you use your slides this way? I did. That’s why they were so wordy! Your slides should support and enhance the learning process. Fewer words - more images. Dual coding theory makes an excellent case for this approach, as mentioned briefly in episode 74. If you have wordy slides and insist on reading the words out to your learners, you will likely encounter split-attention effect. This is when your learners are required to split their attention between, for example, reading information from a slide and listening to you read the information out at the same time. This results in increased cognitive load and is likely to have a negative effect on learning as information does not enter working, and ultimately long-term memory. 3. Presentation Notes “But Martine, I want my learners to take away more than a set of slides with just a few words and pictures on…” I hear you and agree some learners will want more after the session. Why not create presentation notes as a separate (but beautifully formatted) document? You can use them in the session and learners can take them away afterwards. You could argue that “speaker’s notes” in PowerPoint or Google Slides serve this purpose, however, if your learners follow along with your presentation digitally, they could access your speaker’s notes and become distracted. Speaker’s notes have limited formatting options too. 4. Grid System When deciding on your slide layout, consider using an invisible grid to align everything. PowerPoint and Keynote have this feature built in. You can add gridlines manually in Google Slides. A grid allows you to create visual consistency, which is pleasing to the eye. Do vary the pattern though, to create interest. According to Oliver Caviglioli: ”Alignment is very important in bringing order and harmony to how the information is presented.” 5. No Bullets I’m challenging myself to stop using bullet points on slides. Bullets are usually a sign of slides being used a prompt for the teacher or trainer. Seth Godin reminds as that “slides are free”. Rather than having, say, six points on one slide, six slides could be used. That would equate to one point per slide (you’d not need a bullet point in that case would you?) A short, punchy sentence would suffice. Or even, shock horror, just a picture. Again, I’m not there yet with this approach. But I am keeping it in mind when I produce a slide deck and I’m seeing positive reactions. Wrap Up I hoped you enjoyed this episode; I also hope it challenge your practice. I am certainly not an expert in this area, however, I am really enjoying exploring it and experimenting. I’d love to know about your experience too. What is your Purpose? What is your Calling? What is your Assignment? Sometimes these questions can be frustrating. People are trying to encourage you to do what the Lord wants you to do. To walk with the Lord in your life. And to make sure your life lines up with God’s will… But sometimes they end up adding MORE stress with those questions. In this conversation, Carla shares her incredible testimony. She shares about how she "practiced" listening to the Holy Spirit. And she also breaks down the difference between Purpose, Calling, and Assignment. And it is SO helpful. Instead of adding stress… She helps you look to the Lord. To know what He wants you to do, And to walk with Him through that process. If you’ve ever wondered what the Lord’s “will” is for your life… If you’ve ever wondered what your Purpose, Calling, or Assignment is… I know this conversation will be so helpful for you. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/createdforstrength/support
Welcome to today’s episode of the Decoding Purpose podcast.I have been really excited to share today's episode with you for two reasons. Firstly because I think the content is going to flip your perspective on what it means to completely own your purpose, but also because today's guest has been a great friend and a mentor for more than 15 years. A person whose brain, insights and wisdom about life and business embody what it means to be ‘world class’.I was reading a quote the other day by a thought leaders called David Bornstein, and I think that this quote sums up perfectly the relevance of today's interview. To share Davids words with you...he said:“An idea is like a play. It needs a good producer and a good promoter even if it is a masterpiece. Otherwise the play may never open; or it may open but, for a lack of an audience, close after a week. An idea will not move from the fringes to the mainstream simply because it is good; it must be skill-fully marketed before it will actually shift people's perceptions and behaviour.”To provide context on this quote while it's one thing to have a purpose, without influence purpose is just an idea. Purpose might guide the ship, but influence is the sail. So with that in mind, what does it take to to own your voice - and then amplify it to drive an industry, a conversation, a movement or a nation because if we can understand that, then we can really understand the power that is purpose.Todays guest is the incredible Julie Masters - Founder and CEO of Influence Nation. She works with business leaders and organisations to become the voice of authority in their space. With 15 years of experience and management in the speaking world, she earned a reputation for launching and advising some of the world’s most respected thought leaders. Clients include industry leading CEO’s, speakers, best-selling authors and media personalities – the voices of which have reached millions of people globally through speaking, publishing and digital channels.Over the years, Jules and I have spent hours diving into the nuts and bolts of what makes a big idea tick, and our interview today was no different. We explored:The power of digital access channels in driving influential purposeWhat takes an idea into the kind of velocity to create a movementWhy is storytelling a currency in influence, and what are the components of great storytellingWhy contribution, consistency and certainty will take your purpose to the next level. Why intention trumps authenticity every timeWe also explore the connection between the rise of purpose and the rise of influencer marketing… and much much more. With that in mind, kick back and enjoy today's episode of Decoding Purpose with the Incredible Julie Masters. Welcome to the podcast.
I met Matt Dawson through a mutual friend and it didn't take me long to realize that we were cut from the same cloth. Like me, Matt is trying to achieve a goal that some would deem "crazy". And I knew I needed to get him on the podcast to talk about it. Matt’s journey started much like my own – as an athlete. Following his athletic career, he then entered the fast-paced world of investment banking – where he worked 80-100 hour work weeks and created a lot of success for himself. But life, as it so often does, threw him some curve balls which led him to discovering his purpose and the creation of two endeavours: the Dawson’s Peak Organization, and Project Seven for Soldiers; when he will attempt to break seven world records with all proceeds going to charity. Matt's goal is both simple and inspiring: to make a positive impact on others. In this episode of the podcast we talk about how taking on your own personal challenges can help you create the best version of yourself; while elevating those around you. This is an inspiring and impactful episode that is a must to listen to if you want to get fired up about achieving the peak of your performance. With that said, let's go. IN THIS EPISODE YOU’LL LEARN: What led Dawson’s from sports to investment banking – where he became a high performer Why despite Matt's success as an investment banker, he felt something was missing in his life – which led him to find purposeWhat made Matt decide at the age of 37 to take on the challenge of breaking world records in mountaineering, along with some other wild recordsWhat purpose means to Matt and what he believes you should do as an individual and as a businessCreating Dawsons Peak and inspiring transformations through pushing the boundaries of human capabilityThe personal mountain you must climb to achieve a transformation in your life. We talk about the limits that we impose on ourself, our goals and dreams, and how to break through themThe importance of creating social impact aside from profits (or making money) in your lifeHow you redirect your fears to make you as successful as possibleWhat you can and can’t control and how to drop your stress and anxieties so that you can achieve the impossibleWhy the hardest thing for most is to sit quietly with themselves and why the mountains and adventure can help you be alone and discover yourselfTraveling and how it changes you from the inside out (ie. giving up control and working on things you can control)Why as a society we’ve become too comfortable and how we can truly feel our best when we’re pushing and challenging ourselvesWhat “Bathing in the fire” and “Getting the evil out of me” mean and how it can help you become your bestAnd so much more. Gavin talks to HR expert, graduate Of The Institute Of Master Coaches, member of the British Psychological Society and best-selling author, Jacqui Mann. Listen as Jacqui discusses her “Six Step People Model”, the recurring challenges she faces in businesses, and the fundamental necessity of creating and instilling values in your company, all of which are designed to create great places to work. KEY TAKEAWAYS Sometimes issues can arise from things as simple as staff not feeling as though they have been properly informed about their tasks and responsibilities. Processes are necessary to create a framework for any staff member, regardless of their status or experience. Jacqui is a vocal proponent of multi-stage interviews and proper recruiting methods. It’s not enough to have a thirty minute conversation with someone before you take them on. It’s vital to know your prospects better before they become your employees, or it can lead to problems down the line. “People Disease” or the growth of unmotivated, uninspiring staff members, can be quelled by making sure you have an effective HR foundation in place. The basic requirements that every company should have when starting, are employment contracts, grievance and disciplinary procedures and policies. Jacqui’s Six Step People Model is: Purpose - What is the business here, for and what is it trying to achieve? Environment - Often missed by companies, but vital. How does the workplace feel through new eyes? Through other senses? Ownership - Let people be accountable and make decisions. Boundaries are wise, but we need to trust staff. Progression - We need to make sure that your staff have room to develop and advance. Leadership - The owner of the company needs to live the values they expect of their workforce. Engagement - Having all of these things will create a huge difference in terms of the engagement of your staff. Most people leave their job because of their boss. What kind of boss are you? Do you inspire? Do you make staff feel comfortable? Repairing disengagement should begin with analysing what the company's purpose is. Talking to individual staff is important. Ensure transparency. Put a plan together based on the staff’s feedback and stick to it. Make performance reviews a two way process. Don’t just tell your staff what they’re doing right or wrong. Ask them for feedback on how you can improve. And make sure feedback between you is an ongoing thing. Don’t save up your criticisms for their six-month review. . BEST MOMENTS ’The problem I see with business owners is that they’re lazy when it comes to recruiting’ ‘You need to hire people who are going to fit in with the values of the business’ ‘I compare it when you’re building a house’ ‘If employees aren’t rolling your eyes when you’re talking about values, then you’re not talking about them enough’ ‘What if you train them and they leave? Well, what about if you don’t train them and they stay?’ ’The people who don’t want to buy into this, leave. And to me that’s a great result' ‘You can’t do it to them, you have to do it with them' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Business Mastermind Podcast Get Jacqui’s book ‘Recruit - Inspire - Retain’, for free at this link: - https://ov101.infusionsoft.com/app/orderForms/Book---Recruit-Inspire--Retain-GP https://www.linkedin.com/in/jacquimann/ https://www.facebook.com/JMAHRExperts/ https://www.instagram.com/jacquimann_/ https://twitter.com/jacqui_mann www.jmassociates.org www.the-evolve-mastermind.co.uk LEGS – bit.ly/LEGS-Gavin ABOUT THE HOST Gavin Preston Gavin is an inspirational Speaker, Business Strategist, Business Growth Mentor, Trainer and high-performance Coach. So today we have focused on your Purpose, Vision and Mission. It can seem a very daunting topic, however one that is so important and could see you make or break. Purpose - What is your purpose? Why do you do what you do? Vision/Mission - Both of these can overlap but are just as important as one another. For your vision you need to thin BIG. Vision is your goal, it is your statement of what you want and what you are aiming for. Your mission statement supports your vision. Disney is a great example of this. Disney Purpose - "Bringing a smile to a Childs face" It's really nothing complicated is it? Disney Vision/Mission - To be one of the world's leading producers and providers of entertainment and information, using its portfolio of brands to differentiate its content, services and consumer products.

Creating Conscious Leadership and Conscious BusinessesWe leaders come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and varieties; as leaders we are all driven. The questions that we so often skip over is: Where are we really driving to, and why?If you are a highly successful leader or entrepreneur, you have likely had at least a couple of moments where you’ve wondered what’s it all about. You've maybe even asked yourself what the real point is, or why you're even pursuing whatever it is that you are pursuing. For some leaders, getting to the heart of what that question means is a natural evolution, while for others it's forced by a painful circumstance or situation. Nonetheless, we all get there eventually! The question is: What has to happen for you to have the kind of awakening that will transform the meaning of your life? Well, stay tuned because our guest on this episode is Brandon Evans.Brandon is a serial entrepreneur who previously built two companies valued at over $100M, but after experiencing what he describes as a spiritual awakening. His focus has shifted dramatically! Brandon's new company, 1heart, has a mission to foster a new generation of heart-led leaders who are birthing conscious companies, ultimately using business as a force for good to transform lives and the planet. On this episode we go FullMonty about:Facing the dilemma of having all the success, yet realizing he was out of sync with his values Facing the internal battle of letting goHow he (and many other leaders) try to do the inner journey of self discovery and fail (until they don't) Heart-led leadershipThe viral article he wrote, titled: Lost on PurposeWhat does it mean to be a conscious leader? Is there a place for what some call "woo-woo" practices in leadership?Getting fired by investors from the company he founded (after 3 straight years of 300%+ growth) And so much more...Find out more about Brandon Evans: http://1heart.com or https://www.1heartjourneys.com/To find out more about hiring Dov Baron as a speaker or strategist for your organization: http://fullmontyleadership.com/consulting or http://fullmontyleadership.com/speaking.Remember you can now also find us on iTunes, Spotify, iHeart Radio, or wherever you tune into podcasts. And on traditional radio stations across the US every Monday and Thursday on: 99.5 FM & 1520 AM Las Vegas102.1 FM & 1640 AM Lancaster, Philadelphia87.9 FM & 810 AM Macon, Gorgia 92.1 FM & 1630 AM Tampa, Florida97.7 The Villages, Florida96.3 FM Boulder ,Colorado90.3 FM Milwaukee, Wisconsin 94.7 FM Pittsburg, Philadelphia87.9 FM Colorado Springs, ColoradoAnd NOW LIVE! Welcome to Episode 7 of the Decoding Purpose podcast. Over the last few weeks we have explored many facets of what it is to live a life of purpose. We have had conversations that define purpose, look at the science behind purpose, the role of storytelling, purpose in leadership, collaborative purpose, and of course in our last episode we looked at The Purpose Effect, a conversation with a core focus on the intersection between business and purpose. In today’s podcast I interview Carolyn Tate, a marketer by trade, turned author, with a passion for purpose-digging, writing, speaking, teaching and community. With 20 years in large organisations such as Westpac, Merrill Lynch and running her own business, her insight into our personal sense of purpose and the way this interacts with organisational purpose is unique and incredibly insightful. Her company, Carolyn Tate & Co. is an education and publishing company dedicated to unearthing a higher purpose in people and organisations. What I loved about interviewing Carolyn is while she is certainly an expert of purpose in business, her approach to purpose looks at the unfolding or rediscovery of purpose. She explores the idea that we are all born with purpose as an innate part of who we are, and that it is conditioning, belief systems and cultural paradigms that lead us to burying our purpose away into the unconscious parts of who we are. With that in mind, how do we go about remembering who we are...and rediscovering the unique purpose we were born with. In today's conversation Carolyn and I discuss: The cultural paradigms and beliefs that can cause us to bury or forget our purpose The role leaders can play in unearthing personal purpose in order to activate organisational purposeWhat a business can learn about purpose from the cycles of nature The differences between purpose and passion The role of purpose in influencing decision makingHow to differentiate between purpose and distractions And finally we end with a beautiful meditation to assist you in unearthing your golden buddha. Just a warning if you are driving your car, maybe save the last few minutes for a quieter time! Welcome to another episode of Decoding Purpose with the incredible Carolyn Tate. https://carolyntate.co/
I want to start today’s episode out by letting you know I am launching my first coaching program called the “GREATER HABITS COACHING PROGRAM” helping you elevate your life and reach the next level by teaching you about the values, habits, mindset, and structuring your life so that you dictate how you want your life to be, rather than letting life control you. Learn more by visiting our website at https://www.greatnesseveryday.online/greater-habits-coaching-program Today’s episode is inspired by a quote from Jay Shetty in a recent interview he did and Jay Shetty is someone I’ve really enjoyed following his story over the past few years. He kind of has experience with many different lifestyles - haha. He lived a pretty regular life growing up in London, England before becoming a monk and after he left that lifestyle he’s catapulted into the limelight with over 4 billion views and over 24 million followers. This guy clearly knows how to captivate an audience and I really believe that’s because he speaks truth. The quote that inspired me was “The best use of your talents is when you use them to help other people.” and I totally agree with that and I hope that it inspires you today to live this out in your life this week. Talents are great things. Everyone has different talents. If we’re working together as a larger community and everyone is fulfilling their role, that’s how we impact our world and make big change. Passions vs. Purpose What are your talents? If you don’t know, ask someone! Call-to-action: How will you use your talents this week to help other people. Don’t focus on trying to help everyone, because you won’t be able to, but focus on being able to help one person in your life. You never know how your actions will impact that person. Review Podcast + sign up for our Greater Habits Coaching Program starting March 1st! Thank you so much for listening. This is Matt, reminding you to choose greatness, every day and I’ll see you with another episode next Monday!

Welcome to the podcast that’s going to inspire you to get up on your feet and help your ideas start flowing. You’ve found the Level Up Your Life podcast hosted by the inspirational motivational transplant recipient, coach, and speaker Mark Black. Mark lived on the precipice of life or death in his youth and since then has been dedicated to motivating others to live their best lives. Though there is no guest on this show you can feel Mark’s smile and the conversational tone of voice makes it feel as though the listener is having a one on one talk with him. In this episode, Mark tackles the topic of how to get results in each area of our lives, not just business. We all want a return on investment. We want to avoid making the following six mistakes that will impede or prevent us from attaining the results we desire if we fail to utilize them: Intentionality - being deliberate/purposive Begin with the end in mind - know where you’re going People often take off running with an idea, but we don’t see beyond what it is we’re doing right now Where will the job take me in two, three, five years? Is this partnership going to be equally beneficial later? Less intentionality can guarantee a loss of our effort, energy, love, work etc What is the end game? Where do you want to go? Break your life down by categories - health, relationships, mental wellness, and so on. Purpose - What is the why behind doing what you do What’s your why? Why do you do what you do for a career besides money? Is a paycheck a big enough purpose? The purpose gives us fuel to move forward Mark shares a personal story about questioning his motivation when running a marathon. The ‘why’ becomes critically important in order to finish. “I don’t have what it takes to finish this race.” The only thing that prevented him from quitting was seeing his whys listed on his hand. Intense Focus - like an Olympic athlete We live in a culture of distractions Cell phone Computers tablets/iPads Social media Television Busier generation of people/lack of downtime What are the one to three things we’re working toward? Plan Can’t hope to create a wonderful life, career, or relationship by accident Human beings like consistency/creatures of habit Think about how much time it takes to plan a vacation - plan your life with that diligence Recalculating GPS Massive Action Plan Break a six month/year goal into smaller milestones Daily Execution Builds up every day, weeks, months, years 80% on target at the very least Accountability Forces you to do what you said you would do A friend/support group Coach Reward/punishment system “Things are supposed to be hard sometimes and that’s actually really good for us.” “We need to not strive to make things easier, but to make things worth it.” “He who has a big enough why can endure any how.” - Nietzsche “The person who chases two rabbits catches none.” - Confucius “We will continue to do what we have always done until something shakes it up.” “We’re not perfect.” “There are no shortcuts. You just have to execute.” “People are not lucky. They didn’t stumble into results.” “Recalculate immediately before you get way off track.” “It is a false assumption to assume that people who are motivated are naturally motivated. They had to work at it.” Mark's website Mark's LinkedIn profile Mark's Twitter profile Mark's Facebook profile

Gareth Kay believes brands should show, not just tell Gareth Kay is cofounder of Chapter, a San Francisco-based creative studio. Before Chapter, he was Chief Strategy Officer at Goodby Silverstein & Partners, the advertising agency known for work such as 1993's iconic "Got Milk?" campaign for the California Milk Processors Board. I was excited to talk to Gareth because, while he's a strategist, he doesn't come from the world of traditional brand consulting that I come from (and so many of my other guests come from). In fact, one of my first questions for him was, "What do you think the general perception of the brand consulting world is amongst people in the advertising world?" Gareth says advertising agencies are increasingly seeing clients that have already been through a brand consultancy, and "when [the brand consultancy's work] was good you would be a little bit miffed because [cracking the strategy] was something, as a strategist, you really loved doing." On the flip-side, he'd sometimes see brand consultancy work that looked "clever on a piece of paper but…frankly, it was un-executable or, worse still, was a piece of thinking that was clearly designed to get through the armies of different interests inside a client organization and it kind of got watered down…through rounds and rounds of meetings and consensus-building." I asked Gareth about an article he published in WARC, titled "The 'brand' word." When you think about how we throw the term [brand] about, more often than not we are describing something we do-a brand strategy or campaign, not the associations we are trying to create. … We use it too often to create a false sense of control and a mistaken belief that we manage the brand. The models we use reinforce this: the tools of temples and pyramids are about what we build, not how people respond to them. The tools we use to shape brands are not fit for purpose. They are used to create simplicity and consistency which run counter to a culture of complexity and change. This led us to a fascinating conversation on what agencies should be using instead of these "temples and pyramids." Gareth argues consultancies should: "Show the thing," a mantra at Chapter-essentially prototyping real-world applications to showcase brand ideas rather than trying to capture them with words alone, which he calls "a very lossy form of compression." Avoid wordsmithing. He quotes a friend, Russel Davies, "you'll be discussing whether a brand is funny or…humorous." "Is that really the best use of our time, of our money, of our resources?" he asks. The brand model used at Chapter is a "Brand Operating System," the underlying code and principles that define everything a brand does. The framework includes three layers: Belief: What does this brand genuinely believe in the world? This is the problem it's trying to solve or the opportunity it sees. Purpose: What do you do as a brand given your belief? Pursuits: Because we believe X (our Belief) and we're going to do Y about it in the world (our Purpose), we will do the following things. The Pursuits are normally three, action-oriented principles. Gareth provided a detailed example of the Brand Operating System by talking through Chapter's work for Silent Circle. We ended the conversation talking about brands Gareth thinks get all the fundamentals right (Hiut Denim and Allbirds) and his advice to young strategists and planners. THE DAY I WAS TURNED UPSIDE DOWN What's your purpose? She asked me with a furrowed brow and intense eyes that could pierce any type of metal. Forget Superman's heat seeking vision! This vision was HOT! It was as if flames of blue magma were spewing out of her eyes, glasses hanging down on her nose. I sheepishly replied: To serve God and love him? THAT'S EVERYBODY'S PURPOSE Boy! *Looking at me with intensity and speaking with an urgency I had only heard sports coaches and elderly people speak with!** Now What's your PURPOSE? What are you here to do? I didn't have an answer! She relented and shook her head with disgust like this is something you have to know. How did I not know the answer? What Mother Mullen (an elderly woman of God that was a tremendous prayer warrior and had such clarity and insight from the LORD on how to live a righteous life) had asked me forever revolutionized my life. This simple probing question (What's your PURPOSE?) was directly linked to me and I had to answer this particular question because my life is designed to assist others in gaining clarity and confidence so that they can answer the question regarding their own lives. Without clarity of purpose, abuse is inevitable -Myles Munroe (paraphrase) In this Episode: I invoke the question of "What's in your House?" First, figure out: Topic: What is the general thing you want to talk about? Problem: What issue will you research address? Purpose: What will be the point of your research project and how does it connect to the problem? Once you know those two things, then you can write your main research question. Some other things that you can do to figure out your first question: Get all of the thoughts out of your head. Take a brain dump, either writing, talking to someone, or recording yourself. You want to say or write everything that you are thinking in relation to your topic. This will help get clear and to focus down on your topic. Read existing literature. You have to know what has already been done regarding your topic. What have other people found? If there is nothing, what does that mean? WARNING: Please don’t get stuck here. Using reading as an excuse will hinder your progress. [CONNECT ARTICLE] What is your time frame and capacity with this project? How much time do you have? Is this a project that you can do alone or will you need others? There is more time to do more research projects, however, let’s get this one done first. Need help writing your research question? Dr. Srini Pillay, author of Tinker Dabble Doodle Try: Unlock the Power of the Unfocused Mind, is a Harvard trained expert on brain function. In this interview, JJ & Dr. Pillay explore how we can practice being “unfocused” in order to focus more efficiently and achieve our goals! Contrary to many of our beliefs, seemingly lazy activities such as napping, doodling, and walking in no specific direction can actually help our brain be more creatively motivated when it’s time to turn the focus back on. You’ll get “unfocus” lessons from Picasso and Einstein, and also learn how to use “Psychological Halloweenism” to ramp up your motivation. Key takeaways [1:44] Srini Pillay career briefing and how he met JJ. [4:07] The truth that too much focus can be problematic – it can actually drain the brain of energy! [5:16] The solution is to build cognitive rhythm between focused and unfocused states. [6:01] How can you be productively unfocused? Using PCD: Positive Constructive Daydreaming (Jerome Singer). [7:20] How to Daydream: Plan for it; have a playful image; and do it during a low-key activity like gardening. [8:55] Being “unfocused” in the right way helps you be more creative and re-energizes your brain. When you re-focus it helps you in many ways, including predicting the future... [9:55] “Unfocusing” your brain can help integrate information better, and even give you a better sense of self. [11:02] Try these to get started: An app that schedules unfocused time; napping & daydreaming; walking in unstructured paths; and even doodling can improve your memory by 29%! [14:30] Dabbling: What you can learn from Picasso and Einstein. [16:10] People who have complimentary hobbies do better at their primary tasks. [17:23] How to improve your health right away. 1 – Possibility Thinking: simply asserting that it is possible to achieve your goals has some very positive effects. It increases your dopamine, activates reward pathways in your brain, and increases your natural opioids so you are less stressed. [18:10] 2 – The Biology of Imagination: imagine how you will look in the future, using images that demonstrate the “before and after” progression. [19:31] 3 – Creative Motivation: building in periods of unfocus – napping, etc., helps you to come back and focus more successfully. Also try “Psychological Halloweenism” – embodying the full personality of an eccentric role model – to activate their ideas and habits. [21:45] When you get Srini’s book you get the app for free! [23:40] Practice: Ask yourself what do you want that you think is possible; imagine that. Than refine that image of what you want, and your brain will take you there. [25:30] Improve the quality of your sleep with JJ’s Sleep Candy. [26:08] Listeners’ questions: How can I get motivated to get healthier? [27:01] Find the Power of Purpose: What is your big ‘Why?’ Mentioned in this episode: To get the App go to JJVirgin.com/tinker JJVirgin.com/products Facebook page: JJVirgin Official

"Money is just an exchange of energy. The challenge with money is when we do not have a healthy relationship with money and that's where we usually deflect it."- Ryan Yokome What do you think about when you hear the word, "money?" What do you feel when you receive your monthly paycheck? Do you have happy thoughts and feeling of relief and relaxation? Or do you have negative thoughts and feel anxious with worry? Today, CEO of Money & Miracles Breakthrough Coaching and the Co-Founder of the Soulful Money Masterclass, Ryan Yokome, shares how we can tap into our own lives to discover and embrace the currency of wellness. Change Your Mindset on Money "When you know who you are and you know yourself and you're comfortable with that, you can go anywhere and do anything because you don't have to be someone that you're not. You can show up as you and it's so liberating and freeing."- Ryan Yokome Each of us has a personal story with money and it begins with our background and our parents' relationship with money. Whether or not their relationship with money was good, if they said something about money or had a certain attitude and behavior towards it, we picked up on that when we were younger. Fortunately, their experience with money does not have to be the same as our story and relationship with money. To help us change our own money story, Ryan explained the concept of Be-Do-Have and its reversal pattern, Have-Do-Be. A majority of us believe that there is a lack of money. However, it is an abundant source of energy that is always available to us. All we have to do is change our thinking and approach to money and do reverse thinking with Have-Do-Be. First believe that you already have the money that you need. Next, do something differently that will allow you to receive that money and finally become that person who has the money. Focus on the Essence of Money "How you tap into a different space of magnetizing money in your life is how you focus on the essence. You focus on the feeling that money will give you if you had those things now. What's the essence? Would you feel more joy, happiness, relaxed? Cause you're not actually after money, but a feeling. "-Ryan Yokome The key to help you change your mindset on money is to focus on the essence of money and what it means to you. How do you feel if you imagine that you already have all the money or monthly paycheck that you need to get to where you want to be? Is it happiness? Relaxation? Success? You don't want money, but a feeling. The feeling that money gives you. As soon as you focus on that feeling, you will change what you do because your actions will be different and you'll become a different person during that process. You want to put all these feelings about money on the table and process the feeling to help make the unconscious conscious. What's your story with money? Is it your story or your family's story? Tap Into The 5 Positive Money Beliefs "The currency of wellness is connection."- John W. Travis, MD, MPH To experience the positive mindset change of currency, Ryan explained the 5 Positive Money Beliefs: 1) Meaning Money is neutral and we are the ones who give it energy and meaning. You can actually experience how your life is changing depending on how you approach money. Money gives meaning when you notice external changes such as where you live, what possessions you have, what food you eat each day etc. People will also give you clues that money is changing your life because they will notice it too. They will notice that there is something different about you. Lastly, because we can change the energy and meaning that money gives us, you decide what your money story is and will be. Life is not based on luck or genes, but the choices that we make and that creates our money story. 2) Relationships Treat money as if it were a person. Now, how would you treat money if you were dating it? How do you treat it when you log into your online bank account or when you get paid? Does it give you happiness or cause you stress? 3) Purpose What is the purpose of money for you? Why do you want to make more money and what do you want to do with it? If you're not giving money a purpose or being intentional with it, then you're not connecting with it. Ryan gave a great example that you connect with your money when you pay your bills because that money helps pay the salaries of the employees of the other business. When you give your money a purpose, you tap into the essence of it and how it makes you feel. 4) Giving Ryan believes that if you give to another person, that you're actually giving back to yourself as well. So if you shift into a different state of love and abundance, you pass that feeling on to other people. Giving the genuine feelings of love and abundance to others is just what many of us need to feel that excitement and purpose for life that we crave. Give compliments, a smile, or a "Have a nice day!" with real feeling the next time you're at the check out counter. 5) Receiving For many of us, it is so much easier to give than to receive because we haven't learned how to receive love. Past relationships and experiences have caused us to feel like we didn't receive the love that we wanted or needed. Because of this, it can be hard to receive love from others or we don't know why other people are tryitng to give us love. Especially in a world of technology, we are starving for true connection with other people, but we don't know how to accept it when it's given to us. When we receive money from work or as a gift from another person, we can practice receiving love and abudance from another source. This source that will help us buy food, pay for a home, and use to help us get to where we want to be in life. Having It ALL: Conversations about living an Abundant Loving Life
It's probably of no surprise that I love listening to podcasts! I was browsing through new and popular shows a few weeks back, and stumbled across "The New Man" from Tripp Lanier. The title intrigued me, and I jumped into a random episode to see what it was all about. That episode was "Mission and Purpose - What's the Difference and Why Does it Matter?" I listened to it three times. Yup. Played it...restarted....played it again....restarted....played it one last time. Then I told my wife about the episode and shared a quote on my Facebook. Tripp nailed the difference between Mission and Purpose, and at that point I knew I wanted to have a conversation with him myself to see what other powerful insights he had. And boy did he have them! My conversation with Tripp spans a number of topics, and he shares with me his personal story of healing, self discovery, and just being powerful! What you'll learn in this episode: How to serve your higher purpose Avoiding "the trap" How to bring heart into your life
