115. How to Act Confident When You're Not

If you're a beginning teacher or teaching a new prep for the first time, everyone's advice is always to fake it till you make it! We're conditioned to believe that you need to project confidence to show your students that you're qualified to be their teacher. But is that narrative what's best for your students? I've had many conversations with teachers about how to act confident when you don't feel that way, and my answer may surprise you. It's normal to want to display a sense of confidence towards your students when you're in charge of the classroom. But I want you to think about the benefits of being honest and humble with your students instead. Being able to humanize yourself, show your flaws, and share your mistakes with them lets them know it's okay for them to do so as well. However, I do share the two things you should feel confident about and how to stay firm in those beliefs. It can be intimidating to stand in front of students for the first time and act like you've been there before. Although my answer on how to project confidence when that's not how you feel may not be the answer you were looking for, I promise it's exactly what you'll need to be confident for your students. Have you ever made a mistake in your classroom? Or handled a situation differently that caused more problems or regretted how you handled it? I am raising my hand high in the air! Even though it feels like you're the only teacher something like this has ever happened to, in reality, you're not alone. I received an email a few months back that resonated with me, and I knew it would resonate with y'all as well. It was from a second career teacher who shared her struggle with this exact topic. But how can you bounce back? Since I knew this was something every teacher could relate to, I wanted to make it a podcast episode to share some encouragement. So, in today's episode, I'm sharing my advice for when you make a mistake in the classroom and some ways to be proactive in the future. Even though we try everything to avoid it, making a mistake in the classroom is inevitable, but it's how you bounce back that makes all the difference. While I offer words of encouragement and share my own mistakes from when I was in the classroom, I also provide advice. This advice includes a three-step process on ways to admit when you're wrong, identify ways it could've been prevented, how to make it right, and, most importantly, move on and learn from it. It can be a defeating feeling when you've made a mistake, or a negative situation has happened in your classroom. Trust me, I've been there. However, it shows more about who you are as a teacher on how you bounce back than the actual mistake. So I'm here to remind you that trials and mistakes will happen, but use them as an opportunity to grow and learn from them to be better as an educator.  Resources Mentioned: Download your FREE Classroom Reset ChallengeSend me a DM on Instagram: @its.not.rocket.scienceSend me an email: rebecca@itsnotrocketscienceclassroom.comFollow, rate, and review on Apple PodcastsShow Notes: https://itsnotrocketscienceclassroom.com/episode114Win a $10 TPT gift card! 113. What to Do When You Have No Energy - Truths for the Classroom

Secondary Science Simplified â„¢

If you are anything like I was in the classroom, this time of year is when I often felt the most drained, with little energy. The excitement of break seems so far away; it's dark, and the days seem never-ending. And while I can't change any of those things for you, I can give you some encouragement to make it through. Similar to last week's episode, where I shared five systems for the home, in today's episode, I'm sharing five truths for the classroom. Y'all know how much I thrive off a routine or system, which is exactly what I was going to share today. However, knowing the level of energy you possibly have, I decided on disclosing truths for the classroom instead. In seasons where you are the most drained, you actually need support the most. In the five truths I share, each gives you permission to be yourself, allows you grace, and focuses on what's important, such as the connection you have with your students. Sometimes, hearing the truth can be difficult. It's usually the things we don't want to hear that we need to hear. In this case, these truths give you an opportunity to breathe until you regain your energy. So, if you're struggling and need support during this season of your life, make sure you take to heart the five truths for the classroom. Trapped Emotions Can Lead to Physical Pain

If you find yourself dealing with intermittent pain, such as headaches, knee pain, back pain, or neck pain, it's important to recognize that this is not a natural state for the body. Recurring pain is your soul's way of getting your attention. It signifies that there may be unresolved emotions within you that need to be addressed and released in order for you to experience freedom from pain. By becoming more attuned to the pain in our bodies and recognizing the emotional component behind it, we can clear both the emotions and the physical pain. In this way, we can live a healthier life, both physically and emotionally.  Join Matt O'Neill as he explores a never-to-be published chapter of his book regarding subconscious emotions manifesting as physical pain in our bodies.  Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation:  The reason subconscious anger can cause so many problems The primitive aspect of human personality Pain in our bodies is a sign of suppressed anger Understanding the link between pain and emotions How to muscle test yourself to identify trapped emotions Exercise to release trapped emotions How to deal with anger [02:29] The Reason Why Subconscious Anger Can Cause So Many Problems The impact of subconscious anger stems from societal conditioning that portrays anger as a negative emotion. As children, we expressed anger openly, resembling tantrums and outbursts. However, as adults, we suppress and conceal our anger, having learned to hide it from punishment and societal expectations. This suppression leads to unresolved anger residing within us, often unbeknownst even to ourselves. Many individuals claim not to be angry, yet the truth is that most adults harbor unexpressed and suppressed anger, tucked away in their subconscious mind, manifesting in various ways. [12:54] Pain In Our Bodies is a Sign of Suppressed Anger If you find yourself dealing with intermittent pain, such as headaches, migraines, shoulder aches, knee pain, back pain, or neck pain, it's important to recognize that this is not a natural state for the body. Physical pain is typically meant to be acute and serve as a warning sign that something is causing harm. Just like how a rock in your shoe would cause pain in your foot, prompting you to remove it for relief, recurring pain is your soul's way of getting your attention. It signifies that there are unresolved emotions within you that need to be addressed and released in order for you to experience freedom from pain. [29:44] Exploring the Hidden Emotional Roots of Pain When you are feeling pain in your body, ask yourself these questions: Are you feeling overwhelmed and burdened by the demands of your life? Perhaps you're carrying too much and need to make a change. It may be time to prioritize self-care and create space for relaxation. Do you feel that others are not respecting your boundaries, and do you need more personal space? Being honest about the true source of your tightness or pain is the key to healing it completely. Once you acknowledge that emotional elements contribute to your pain, it will start to diminish. To avoid future pain accumulation, revisit these questions and address them honestly. Notable quotes: [01:22] When you start to get really in tune with pain in your body... that is when you start to open up... to really manage your emotions in a much better way.  [01:45] [12:54] If physical pain keeps coming back, your soul is trying to get your attention. Most likely, there is an emotional blockage keeping you from being pain-free. [13:05] [27:17] Being honest about the true source behind your tightness or pain is the solution to fully healing it. Alcohol-Free Days Are Progress with Lily Weis

Society and media have long associated alcohol with fun, but is this really true? When we drink alcohol it activates the reward center in our brain. This makes us feel happy… until it doesn't.  According to alcohol freedom coach, Lily Weis, thinking that alcohol is going to bring you joy is like borrowing joy from a loan shark. Yes, you get that initial hit. But the interest you have to pay is a total bummer.  In this episode Lily teaches us how to start with alcohol-free days as progress. She speaks from personal experience and her non-judgmental, real-life approach make this a must-listen episode for anyone curious about decreasing their alcohol consumption and increasing their happiness.  Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation:  The myth of having to hit rock bottom The research on the link between fun and alcohol What alcohol does to our brains How to be comfortable in social situations without a drink in your hand Knowledge about addiction can shorten relapse rates Alcohol-free days as progress [02:49] The Myth of Having to Hit Rock Bottom Alcohol use disorder is a spectrum and hitting rock bottom before quitting is a myth. "Gray area drinking" can still be harmful and cause joy to leak out of one's life. Even with a healthy body and marriage, some individuals may struggle to quit drinking. This pattern of increasing drinking over time can continue for years, but there is hope and help available. [06:50] The Link Between Fun and Alcohol When we drink alcohol, it activates the reward center in our brain by increasing the dopamine neurotransmitter. This makes us feel happy, as dopamine is linked to pleasure and survival instincts. However, this feeling doesn't last long. Thinking that alcohol is going to bring you joy is like borrowing joy from a loan shark. Yes, you get that initial cash. But the interest is a bummer.  [09:49] What Alcohol Does to Our Brains Alcohol numbs our senses and our ability to feel. However, it also numbs our ability to experience joy. If you're a regular drinker, your brain gets a large dopamine hit which can cause it to shut off natural dopamine production. This means you have effectively turned off your body's ability to produce joy chemicals. [26:51] Shortening Relapse Rates and Alcohol-Free Days Knowledge about addiction can shorten relapse rates. It all depends on where you are on the alcohol use disorder spectrum. But having knowledge about the urges that arise and knowing how to deal with them makes it easier to resist drinking. If you are afraid of relapsing, that can grow bigger and bigger. View every alcohol-free day as progress and every lesson learned as a victory. Even if you drank seven out of seven days last week, but only two out of seven days this week, you still have five alcohol-free days and two lessons learned. Instead of feeling bad and asking "What's wrong with me?", ask yourself "Why did I drink that day?" This approach helps you reflect on your behavior and discover solutions without blaming yourself. Notable quote: [09:49] - [10:10] Alcohol numbs everything… it is also numbing your ability to have joy. Resources Mentioned:  Download this week's free resource instantly when you sign up for The Good Mood Show newsletter here!  Or, reach out on our contact page at GoodMoodShow.com/Contact and we will email you a copy of any free resource you request. She struggled with alcohol addiction herself and has been sober for 12 years. A power couple is fueled by two things: their love for each other and their internal drive to make a difference in the world. In this episode, we unpack our interpretation of what a power couple is, share questions that can help you determine whether you're in a power partnership, and also explore ideas about how to get there. We've created the kind of partnership that we both dreamed was possible, but that doesn't mean we're standing on a power couple podium with a trophy in our hands. It requires a recommitment to the practice of taking a stand for our ‘We' when we come up against challenges and ruptures. Instead of running away, we're willing to have raw, direct conversations so we can continue to develop our skill sets and fulfill our shared vision. As a power couple, we're regularly examining how we're using our marriage to make the world a better place. In your relationship, it might look like a shared business or passion project, volunteering together, or deeply supporting each other's journeys. We invite you to reflect on the unique makeup of your ‘We' and determine how you connect to it in a way that's fulfilling, alive, and passionate. David Hutchens: Story Dash David Hutchens helps leaders find and tell their stories. He works with leaders around the world to find, craft, and tell their most urgent stories for the purpose of creating shared meaning, preserving culture, disseminating learning, and speeding change in organizations. He has taught the Storytelling Leader program at some of the most influential organizations — and he's written many books, including the Circle of the 9 Muses and The Leadership Story Deck. He is the co-creator with longtime friend of the show Susan Gerke of the GO Team program. He's also the author of the new book, Story Dash: Find, Develop, and Activate Your Most Valuable Business Stories…In Just a Few Hours. In this conversation, David and I discuss how to find stories that you can use in your organization. We reflect on the reality that we both hear many leaders say to us: “How do I find the right stories?” David then shares the key principles and steps that every leader can take to surface and curate the best stories. Key Points The “Us At Our Best” taxonomy is what it looks like when are are delivering with energy and excellence. A recent Southwest Airlines story is an example of this. Find the area the area of your work where you need to influence the emotional system. Trust stories about small moments. Don't attempt to create an epic drama of huge importance. The best stories are individual incidents that send a bigger message. Formal story mining can be done alone or as team building. Institutionalizing practices like story sharing can help this happen regularly and naturally. When informally collecting stories, listen for time, place, and person as signals that a story is beginning. Where do you find most of your candidates?  If LinkedIn is your primary platform for sourcing and engaging with candidates, this episode is for you. We are not telling you to stop using LinkedIn. But we believe that it's a mistake to be over-reliant on LinkedIn as your main source of candidates. In this episode, you will hear the downsides of being dependent upon LinkedIn. You'll also learn what specific steps you can take now to enhance your candidate engagement and increase response rates to your outreach.  Episode Outline and Highlights [00:57] The six pillars of a successful seven-figure recruitment business. [2:22] Clients versus candidates - which do you need more of? [3:31] Why it is essential to track the source of the candidates you place. [5:14] The downsides of being over-reliant on LinkedIn as your primary source of candidates. [6:47] Why using InMails may not be the most effective method of outreach. [8:05] Going further - how to leverage multi-channel communication strategies. [10:04] Isn't a 12-step candidate recruitment campaign going overboard? [12:36] Benefits of developing a multi-step, multi-channel approach. [13:38] Two more reasons why it's risky to rely too much on LinkedIn. [15:14] Strategies to increase candidate response. [17:02] Simple steps you can take to put this into action. The Downsides of Being Over-Reliant on LinkedIn LinkedIn is actually the number one source of candidates for the majority of recruiters out there. But there are downsides to being over-reliant on LinkedIn as your primary source of candidates. Some of them are: Your competitors and clients are searching on LinkedIn too.  Candidates are inundated with messages on LinkedIn.  Not every candidate is active on LinkedIn. Also, you have to remember that you do not own the data on LinkedIn. The data belongs to LinkedIn and they could at any time just cut you off. They can restrict your account and remove the facility. All the time you have invested in curating that network can be taken away. So we always recommend that you extract data from LinkedIn and build your own database. Then your ATS will become your number one source of candidates in the future. Going Further and Leveraging Multi-Channel Strategies We are not saying to stop using LinkedIn. We just want you to go much further when it comes to your candidate outreach and activities. Your goal should be to have a sophisticated, multi-touch, multi-channel recruiting campaign in place - one that leverages automation technology. In this episode, we will be giving examples of strategies you can use to increase candidate response and engagement. The Benefits of Implementing a Multi-Touch, Multi-Channel Recruitment Campaign Do not leave money on the table. You owe it to yourself and your candidates to make them aware of the opportunity on offer.  As a recruiter, increasing your response rates translates to more placements and profits. Plus it enables you to have a positive impact on more lives.  Here are some of the benefits of utilizing multi-channel strategies: Increase in response to your candidate outreach. Increase the number of quality candidates that you can present. It will shorten the time to fill positions. Save time in leveraging tools and automation. Have a sense of control over your candidate pipeline. Recruiter Mistakes #2: Working with the Wrong Clients with Mark Whitby and Leanne Sara Jones Hunt, Ep #138

The Resilient Recruiter

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 22, 2022 16:31

If you're like many recruiters we speak to, you're extremely busy right now with more job orders than you can handle. However, are you working with the right clients? Many recruiters delude themselves by thinking they're “too busy” to do business development when in reality they're working on low-probability searches. So they end up doing a lot of work you don't get paid for.  Another common scenario is recruiters who rely on repeat business from the same legacy clients. Sure you've got a good relationship, but have you gotten into a comfort zone with them? When was the last time you reviewed your terms of business with your existing clients?  Or asked them for a retainer? Perhaps you're reluctant to rock the boat because you get a lot of business from them. If you can identify with either of these scenarios, pay close attention. In this episode, Leanne and I will share tips on how to increase your billings by working with your ideal clients - the ones who are willing to work with you exclusively at higher fees, and who treat you as a trusted advisor and true partners.  This is the second of a series of episodes where Leanne and I will share insights that we have gained from working with hundreds of successful recruitment business owners.   Episode Outline and Highlights [3:00] Increase your billings by auditing your existing clients. [4:12] Indicators that you are working with the right clients. [5:27] The benefits of grading your jobs using a Job Order Scorecard. [8:11] Common limiting beliefs that stop recruiters from reviewing their terms of business with existing clients.  [10:52] Actual examples and success stories of recruiters who raised their standards in terms of how they work with new and existing clients. [12:07] Won't you lose clients if you increase your rates?  [13:07] Three simple actions you can take to re-evaluate your client relationship. Audit Your Existing Client with the Job Order Scorecard   When was the last time you audited your clients and measured the quality of jobs you are working on to make sure you are investing your time wisely? One of the first exercises we do with our new clients is to get them to do an audit on their existing clients and actually grade their jobs. Failing to do so can mean that you end up working with the wrong clients in ways that are not effective or efficient.  A useful exercise is to look at your job-to-placement ratio. In this call, you will hear a scientific approach to using a diagnostic tool we call the Job Order Scorecard. This tool was designed to audit your existing live job - looking at measurable factors and criteria to work from when starting new partnerships or when analyzing your current clients.  Some of the factors being looked at are: How fillable is the job? How accessible is the hiring manager? Is the role actually within your niche? How good is the rate? How solid are the agreement and the terms? If you want to steal our Job Order Scorecard you can download it here: http://www.recruitmentcoach.com/scorecard  Challenge Your Self-Limiting Beliefs  The idea of grading your jobs can lead to better outcomes for both you and your client. However, the fear of change and some limiting beliefs may stop us from taking the leap of faith to switching from contingent to the retained model, for example. Another thing we hear a lot is  “In my market, it is very price sensitive, there is no way our clients will pay a higher fee.” If you hear yourself saying this, it may be a sign that there are underlying limiting beliefs that we may need to challenge. We want you to go out of your comfort zone and look at it from a different perspective. The success stories of our coaching group members should nudge you to overcome the fear of asking for higher fees and more commitment.   Three Simple Actions You Can Take Now If there are key takeaways from this episode, it is taking action now and doing the simple steps below: Go to http://www.recruitmentcoach.com/scorecard and download the scorecard. Do the exercise and audit - give a score to each of the roles you are working on so you can measure them up against one another. Re-prioritize your time and energy based on that score. In honor of National Cancer Survivor Month, Cynthia is sharing ways that you can support yourself, your loved ones, and anyone else you might know who is going through their own cancer journey. It can be hard to figure out the right thing to say or do when someone in your life is diagnosed with cancer, but Cynthia has some tips on how to be there for them while also respecting their boundaries.  For so many of us, it's difficult to reach out and receive help. One of the best ways to show up for someone battling cancer is to offer practical and specific assistance, like picking up food while you're out or inviting their child over for a playdate so they have an afternoon to rest. It's also important to match their energy and let them express their emotions. It's exhausting to always put on a brave face, especially when you're in a lot of pain.  Cynthia highlights the physical and emotional burden that a lot of caregivers experience, which often goes unnoticed. Checking in with them and doing something to lighten their load can go a long way. Listen in to learn more about how to navigate the emotional rollercoaster of a cancer diagnosis, treatment, and remission.  In today's episode, you'll discover:  Insight into Cynthia's personal experience with supporting her mother through two cancer diagnoses 3 simple examples of how to lend a clear and direct helping hand  The (often overlooked) importance of being emotionally available for your loved one with cancer  Why it's important to support cancer survivors even when they're in remission The simple way to turn your experience with cancer into a successful and meaningful career Important Links: Show notes for this episode Resources Mentioned: Download the FREE Ultimate Guide to Cancer Coaching   Learn more about becoming a Certified Transformational Nutrition Coach Watch the Dream Career video series  Follow Us: Visit our website Follow us on Instagram Follow us on Facebook Connect with ITN student, Darcel Osei, on Instagram

Do you know how to take advantage of all the wealth creation opportunities available during a volatile stock market? Solopreneurs, by nature, tend to work alone and bear the burden of financial crises. Unfortunately, this can lead to panic selling of everything we’ve achieved. Financial struggles can trigger an intense fight or flight reaction inside of us which could lead to drastic changes in how we approach our businesses. Do you want to learn how to avoid this instinct that we all may face during these difficult times? Are you interested in developing some wealth-building strategies and learning my secrets to emerging from challenging economic situations with your business still intact? Read on and listen to this episode for some approaches and tactics for wealth creation you can implement today! You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in… Reasons the stock market goes through volatile cycles [0:49] My 3 “Ps” to avoiding a fight or flight reaction [2:35] What you can do today to generate wealth creation [6:28] Two bonus “Ps” to consider [8:13] The three “Ps” to help you avoid a fight or flight reaction  How can you rewire yourself to avoid making a drastic decision when economic conditions are not looking good?? Here are three steps that I go through with my clients that can help calm your nerves and keep you from making rushed decisions. 1. Purpose What is the purpose of your investments? Think about why you decided to invest your money in the first place and then ask yourself if you will have time to recover once the market comes back up. Revisit your WHY, and weigh the impact of possible debt and interest rates against your intended results over time. 2. Perspective  What do your investments mean to you? Get an understanding of how these changes affect your lifestyle TODAY, and how they will affect you in the future. Try to gain perspective of wealth creation opportunities and focus on what IS possible, rather than focusing on potential losses. 3. Proceed Make a plan, and then put it into action. Now that you remember why you made your investment and you’ve gained perspective on all the pieces moving in the background, it’s time to move forward. Take productive action that will keep you on the path towards your goals and help keep you focused on your intended results. What can you do today to jumpstart your wealth creation? Are you ready to take action? Here are some great ways you can move pieces around immediately for impactful, long-term results. Invest in wealth-building opportunities while the market is down: SEP IRA Solo 401k Profit-Sharing plan 529 plans for your kids What are some other actions you can take to relieve the stress of this volatile market and bring you peace of mind? Turn off investment-news TV and limit your media intake Go back to work to take steps towards creating the life you want Go through your monthly expenses and get rid of anything you don’t use, or you can do without (apps, memberships, streaming services, etc.) Bonus: Two more “Ps” to keep you on the path to success As the market fluctuates, you should keep these two Ps in mind as well: 1. Paper losses One of my clients calls this “ghost money,” because you don’t see any gains or losses until it’s time to use it for its intended purposes. A paper loss is only on paper, you will only see the loss or gain in value when you go to sell. 2. Purchase Look at your purchases as an opportunity to take advantage of market volatility. What wealth growing opportunities could you invest in to make the most of this time? Could you put more money into your current investments or maybe open up new ones? This time could be one of the most significant wealth-building opportunities of your life, so take advantage of it today!  Resources Mentioned Download the free, 3-step worksheet at www.gabenelsonfinancial.comresources Connect With Gabe Nelson www.GabeNelsonFinancial.com/contact EMAIL: Gabe(at)GabeNelsonFinancial(dot)com Follow Gabe on LinkedIn Follow Gabe on Twitter: @GabeNelson1 Follow Gabe on Facebook Subscribe to Solopreneur Money Audio Production and Show notes by PODCAST FAST TRACK https://www.podcastfasttrack.com

Those of us who struggle with Hashimoto’s, chronic fatigue and other autoimmunities can have a difficult time when working out, which is why I have brought Dr. Emily Kiberd onto today's episode.  The founder of Urban Wellness Clinic and the Thyroid Strong program, Emily is an expert in learning how to move your body when you aren't feeling your best. If you are looking for a way to jumpstart your workout when dealing with Hashimoto’s or other chronic conditions, Emily is here to provide ways that you can feel strong and confident in your body again.  If you are uncertain about the important role strength training plays in your metabolism, cardiovascular health, hormone functioning and more, this episode is for you. How has your Hashimoto’s diagnosis impacted the way you work out? Share in the comments on the episode page.    Quotes “I’ve always been you know, New York ‘work hard play hard’, and I would just burn myself out and cause Hashimoto flare-ups basically. So I took a step back and I was like okay, how can I do this smarter?” (11:11) “Training someone with Hashimoto’s, you have to cue them and dial their program in differently than just the typical traditional person.” (19:27) “Starting to change the mindset of ‘I am going to in and kill it’, versus ‘I’m going to turn on all the right muscles, do functional compound, full body movements’… that's working out smarter not just necessarily as hard as we can.” (24:00)   Resources Mentioned Download your free Strong Guide Here Join the Thyroid Strong Online Program Here Urban Wellness Clinic Website Dr. Emily Kiberd Website Follow Dr. Emily Kiberd on Facebook | Instagram Muscle Medicine Podcast EY 055: Why Women of All Ages Should be Weight Training EY 062: Dr. Gabrielle Lyon Follow Dr. Mariza’s Virtual Book Club on Facebook | Instagram   Other Resources: The Essential Oils Hormone Solution by Dr. Mariza Check out the full show notes page Keep up with everything Dr. Mariza Follow Dr. Mariza on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube

What we're talking about in this episode! How to manage your mind when dealing with your chronic symptoms Recommendations to help you find the right person to help you get better Tools for long term healing, self-empowerment and future self-planning Ways that you can alter your fight, flight and freeze responses to actually benefit you Using an elimination diet to decrease your inflammation and find your root problem   Episode Summary We've talked a lot about the important role your gut health plays in almost every function of your body, but did you know that your mindset is equally as powerful when it comes to healing your gut issues? Victoria Albina is a family nurse practitioner, herbalist and cognitive behavior life coach who has over 20 years of experience using the power of mindset to heal the body, and today she's sharing her knowledge with us. Our emotions and hormones are chemical messengers in the body that have the ability to make powerful changes in our health and wellbeing. A lack of energy, anxiety, weight gain, and chronic stress can all be attributed to your gut issues, and it is up to you to change your mindset and get your body back on track through some serious self-love. Victoria believes in taking back control of your body, mind, spirit, and soul to restore the holistic integrity of your life. Today she shares ways to identify your toxic thoughts, how to engage your neuroplasticity to cement new lifestyle choices, and highlights the importance of other women sharing their stories to help others heal. Once you believe that you are worthy of healing and love exactly as you are today, you can accept your chronic symptoms and improve them from an objective perspective. Learn the importance of the language you use around your symptoms, which essential oil you should be using while journaling, the major role your Vagus nerve could be playing in your condition, and so much more. When you take self-love as your first vitamin every morning, it can alter the way you think about your body, and how your body reacts to you. Are you ready to stop choosing to suffer and take the steps to become more in touch with your bodily intuition? Share what inspired you most about Victoria’s story on the episode page!   Quotes “We just get the big brush off, and I’m pretty sick of it. So I am out here to help women to really deeply heal themselves and get back to their best health through functional medicine.” (8:50) “I think about and I talk about my mental health struggles, my IBS, my chronic pain, all the everything I went through, as one of the greatest and most beautiful gifts of my lifetime.” (13:01) “You are worthy of love exactly as you are today. With your belly ache, with your suicidal ideation, with your ADHD, with all of it, you are worthy and whole and so loveable.” (15:47) “All of the ways that we think about these situations creates emotions, these sensations that are a movement of energy through our bodies. That can send us into this fight, flight or freeze response, which does the opposite of helping us thrive and actually sends our healing backward.” (24:33) “You can always make the choice to continue to be sick and continue to suffer. That is always available to you. What we're talking about in this episode! Walking the walk behind food as medicine and how it ultimately benefits our health Learn why angiogenesis is your body's most important defense mechanism How to choose foods that you enjoy while supporting your cellular vitality Debunking examples of foods that may have misguided reputations An overview of the five health defense systems and specific healing foods   Episode Summary If you aren't thinking about the fuel you put into your body on a daily basis, you aren't thinking about your overall health. Food can make or break your ability to function optimally, and Dr. William Li is dedicated to sharing the importance of diet and teaching others how to eat to beat chronic disease. A world-renowned physician, scientist, speaker and author, Dr. Li is shaking up our perceptions about nutrition and helping the world heal themselves through food. Instead of focusing on the things the medical society tells us to cut out of our diets, Dr. Li places importance on the new things we are discovering every day that can actually assist your body in fighting off disease. Learn which foods are scientifically proven to heal your body and which you should definitely avoid, understand the role angiogenesis plays in your body's ability to defend itself, and how to pay it forward to yourself by eating foods that you actually like while getting healthier. Dr. Li believes that every health practitioner needs to be focusing on total body healing, and it all starts with the food you are putting into your vessel. He is laying the groundwork found in his new book, Eat to Beat Disease, to inform you of what foods to choose so that you can make eating healthily a sustainable lifetime adventure. Are you ready to get serious and empower yourself with the tools to eat to beat disease? Let us know what about Dr. Li’s research surprised you the most, and which of the 200 foods on Dr. Li’s list you are going to try first in the comments on the episode page.   Quotes “Food as medicine is a tool in a toolbox to allow us to actually help avoid disease, but also if we people are sick, to able to contribute something to what the health care system is able to give them as well.” (11:13) “The good news is that our DNA is hardwired to be able to neutralize those attackers, minimize the damage it can cause, and then fix itself. So foods can activate that as well.” (22:14) “We are at the beginning of this new era of discovery about what's in our food and what can it actually do for our defenses.” (30:09) “I think people can lean into their diet, they can enjoy the food they eat, they can love their health by loving their foods.” (38:52)   Resources Mentioned Download your Free Shopping Guide Here Eat to Beat Disease by Dr. William Li Dr. William Li Website Follow Dr. Li on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter Dr. William Li Can We Eat to Starve Cancer TEDx Talk The Angiogenesis Foundation Website The Antioxidant Counter by Dr. Mariza Snyder The Matcha Miracle by Dr. Mariza Snyder   Other Resources: The Essential Oils Hormone Solution by Dr. Mariza Check out the full show notes page Keep up with everything Dr. Mariza Follow Dr. Mariza on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube

Refusing to accept this, but stuck without modern resources like the internet, Palmer started her own 20-year long health discovery and has since reversed the symptoms of her MS by finding her triggers and healing her gut. With this incredibly powerful information in hand, Palmer recently wrote Beat Autoimmune, a guide to exploring the six crucial lifestyle factors, or F.I.G.H.T.S, that are the root cause of your autoimmune condition. Autoimmunity is the fastest growing condition in the United States, and mainstream medicine only covers up the symptoms leaving patients confused and suffering. For a new perspective, Palmer explains the six key factors to reversing your autoimmune condition, such as food, infection, and stress, how to serve your gut by removing toxins and adding nourishing elements, and ultimately works to shift the paradigm for what you believe is possible for your health and wellness. Palmer is proof that with a little dedication, hard work, and stubbornness, you can help heal your body naturally. By digging into the root causes and removing the stress that is blocking your immune system, you too can help reverse the symptoms of your autoimmune disease and realize the incredible capacity for healing that your body has. Stop adding fuel to the fire and start listening to what your body is telling you that it needs with Palmer’s vast experience and wealth of knowledge around autoimmunity. I had become a child warrior, I was hypervigilant, and I believed intuitively that my immune system had become a proxy for that hypervigilance.” (12:25) “I really wanted to get to, how in the world was it even possible that I could reverse a disease that six neurologists, these experts, had told me there was nothing I could do, and yet that was completely different from my felt experience.” (24:31) “When I found this exciting science about epigenetics and how we control 90% of our health outcomes and genes only play 10% of the part, I want people to know that and embrace that and feel empowered that there is so much that they can do.” (30:56) “Really being aware of any of those past traumas that you have experienced, and doing whatever you can to address them on a daily basis is ideal.” (45:20)   Resources Mentioned Download the Free Optimal Food Guide Here Beat Autoimmune by Palmer Kippola Beat Autoimmune Book Bonus Page Palmer Kippola Website EY 088: My Hashimoto’s Diagnosis and What I Did to Get Well Follow Palmer Kippola on Facebook | Instagram | YouTube   Other Resources: The Essential Oils Hormone Solution by Dr. Mariza Check out the full show notes page Keep up with everything Dr. Mariza Follow Dr. Mariza on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube

In this episode, Gordon discusses some life adjustments he has made lately and some of the things to consider when starting a group practice. Once you start having more clients than your capacity allows, it may be time to start a group practice. Starting a group practice means hiring people to work for and there are two options, employees or contractors. Employees are people who work directly for you; however, there are lots of different expenses to consider. While on the other hand, contractors can have fewer expenses, but you will have little control over how they see their clients. Group Practice When Gordon thinks about group practices, usually he sees it done when people reach some growing pains. Typically a practice will be full, and they have maxed out the number of clients they can see in a week as a solo practitioner. Then, they start a waitlist. Once you have more clients than you can actually see that is when you can begin thinking about starting a group practice. Bringing on other counselors is a viable option when you have an overflow of clients. Instead of extending the hours of your day, adding people to your practice will allow you to relieve some of the logistical pressures of running a business. Contractors In the contractor model, you have less oversight over what that person does. You can maybe give them a parameter of what to do, but you cannot oversee entirely how they are doing their job. An example and comparison of this is when a person might hire a contractor to do some home improvements.  You can explain what you want to be done, but you don't tell the contractor how they needed to get it done or provide any tools. The upside of having contractors that you do not have as much paperwork to worry about or the different overhead costs. Compensation Contractors typically get paid per session they hold. This can be a flat rate that is agreed upon by both parties. For instance, you can charge the client one-hundred dollars per session but agree to pay your contractor fifty dollars for each session completed. Another way to compensate is a fee split. This works particularly well for people on insurance panels. You would pay the person based on the percentage you collect. For example, you can use a fifty/fifty split. However, in different states, there are laws against fee splitting. Remember, you still have to cover your costs as the owner, so it is essential to understand the amount of money needed to keep the business running. Employees Check with employment experts in your area about local laws for paying people. Obviously, you will need to meet the minimum wage or paying something close to that with a salary. The other thing to consider around the payment of employees is exempt employees. Exempt employees are professionals and more leeway around how you compensate them. An exempt employee is a salaried employee or paid on a per-case basis. There will be more costs associated with employees in terms of taxes. The employer is expected to pay half of the Medicare and Social Security portion of FICA. Whereas self-employed people pay all of it themselves. Another expense is unemployment insurance. The federal government requires you to pay this cost to have an employee. Because you are helping in other ways besides straight compensation, you can justify paying a lower salary and may save money in the long run.
