Steven self-identifies as the worst person to go into the real estate business, at least as judged by conventional wisdom: His pace is steady and relaxed. He doesn't work nights or weekends. He doesn't do open houses. He's only available on a Sunday if there's an emergency. You can't find him online. In short: Steven sets boundaries. Yet he's persisted by becoming an expert at door-knocking: taking difficult action over time, and connecting with people on a basic human level that brings in sustainable long-term business. Join Dan and Steven as they discuss: ‣ Steven's wildest door-knocking stories ‣ The short-term “invisible” success that prospecting can bring you ‣ How Steven works less than 20 hours a week, makes it to every baseball game and dance practice… and does $10M in volume a year …and more! Join Scott and Mark with their guests Steven Briggs as they chat about the hierarchy of traveltransits and Steven’s toilet paper giveaway. Steven Briggs is a comedian, actor, writer, andYoutuber known for his hilarious sketches. Today, he shares stories of him either witnessingsomeone almost getting stabbed on a Greyhound or drinking breast milk from a shot glasstwice. If you want to hear more crazy stories, stay tuned and enjoy the episode!Where Do Truck Drivers Hook UpIn this episode, Steven asked the vital question, “Where do truck drivers hook up?” Now, thequestion stemmed from their conversation about “The Mile High Club.” That is, If someonehooks up on a plane and they call it “The Mile High Club,” what would they call it if someonehooked up on a bus? The three then agreed on “The Mile Marker Club,” but it eventuallyevolved into how you would even hook up on a bus, and in turn, on a truck. At first, they thoughttruck drivers would hook up on the tiny beds they would sleep on in the front of the truck. ButSteven proposed that truck drivers would hook up in the back, where the fruits and vegetablesare. Hence, while the three jokingly agreed on this idea, this also answers why your avocadosare sticky.Steven’s Toilet Paper GiveawayRight when COVID started, Steven did somewhat of a “giveaway.” He always wanted to buy abidet, and he did, which changed his life forever. But now, he had a bunch of toilet paper he nolonger needed. Hence, he put out a speaker on his balcony, played some music, andannounced that he was giving away his toilet paper. Then again, that wasn’t the best part of it.People started crowding up the place just to come and get toilet paper, and to Steven lookedlike a pigeon coming for bread crumbs. Even better, more people came by every day at around3 PM to, again, just get free toilet paper. Steven even described them as feral cats becausepeople would often end up fighting over the last rolls. In the end, it was a fun experience for bothSteven and his neighbors.About Steven BriggsSteven is an LA-based comedian, writer, and actor. Steven Hassan (@CultExpert) has helped thousands of individuals and families recover from undue influence (authoritarian control). With over 40 years of experience, he is sought after as one of the foremost authorities on undue influence and controlling groups and individuals. He is the founder of the Freedom of Mind Resource Center, and a founding collaborator of the #iGotOut movement. What We Discuss with Steven Hassan: How a disinformation crusade like QAnon takes root and thrives in the politically polarized petri dish of modern America (with a little help from its outside adversaries). Why the trope of non-human elites ritualistically sustaining themselves on the essence of innocent children should seem familiar -- because this blood libel has been most famously used to normalize the persecution of Jews from the Middle Ages to the Holocaust and beyond. How QAnon appeals not only to the predictable dumber-than-a-box-of-rocks demographic, but a surprising number of seemingly otherwise intelligent people who are counterintuitively more susceptible to its influence than most. How Steven’s BITE model applies to QAnon's manipulation of behavior, information, thought, and emotion among its followers to show it for what it is: a destructive cult with elements of psyops thrown in for good measure. What we can and should do when people we care about have been sucked down the QAnon rabbit hole and we want to see them safely tethered back to reality. And much more... When he hears the word ‘changemaker’, we imagine someone’s who’s predestined to take on some special role in following their inner calling. What Light has found through having dozens of these conversations is that changemakers are often just like us. Today’s guest is Steven Reed, a childhood friend of Light’s and someone who, back in 2019, became the 57th mayor of their hometown of Montgomery, Alabama. What's significant about that is that Mayor Reed was the first Black mayor in a town that was, for a brief period of time, the official capital of the confederacy. It was also the place where Dr. King launched the Montgomery Bus Boycott in the 1950s, the place where Rosa Parks was arrested 65 years ago for her participation, and the home of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church, where Dr. King began his career as a minister and an activist. Montgomery has a very rich history and, for that reason, Mayor Reed's election made international headlines. In today's episode, listeners hear about Steven’s unlikely journey of leaving Montgomery for business pursuits, trying to do the traditional thing by becoming a financial analyst, his failures as an entrepreneur, and why he decided to become the change he wanted to see by running for office – first as a probate judge, even though he did not have a law degree, and then later as a mayor. Find out why most people think they cannot run for public office and how, believe it or not, you are more qualified than you think. This fascinating conversation might inspire you to get more involved in local politics and become the change you want to see in your area of the world, so make sure to tune in today!Key Points From This Episode:Steven reflects on his favorite toy as a child, and why he enjoyed it.The history of the Reed family in Montgomery, Alabama, and their political ties to the city. How much of this history of activism was casually shared with Steven as he was growing up.Steven’s love for football and his dream of becoming a player or coach when he got older. What it was like growing up in the cradle fo the confederacy in such a politically aware family. His decision to follow in his brother’s footsteps and attend Morehouse College in Atlanta. One of the tenets Steven learned at Morehouse: Not only push yourself to be your best, but push the community and culture beyond that. How he defined success at that point in his life – to bring his mindset to corporate America.Choosing business over political science thanks to his generation of opportunities.A work ethic philosophy he inherited from his dad – “Ain't nobody going to build you a temple and make you high priest.”Steven shares his main takeaways from his three years as a financial analyst.Realizing he wasn’t as numbers-driven as others and leaving for management consulting. How Steven came to learn real-world entrepreneurial experience in a non-traditional way.Steven talks candidly about some of his entrepreneurial failures and discouragements. What Steven’s dad taught him about removing ego and pride from business ventures.Learn about Steven’s first foray into lobbying and the reasons he chose to get into it.The 2008 speech Barack Obama gave that changed the way Steven viewed public service.Who Steven has around to support and guide him in his decisions and his role in that group. The combination of inspiration and frustration that led him to take the risk of running for probate judge in Montgomery.Steven explains how people mistake mediocrity for excellence when it comes to politicians. Why Steven believes he was elected as probate judge – given that the tides were turning.Find out more about the controversial decision Steven made to issue same-sex marriage licenses as probate judge in 2015.The process of runnin
In this interview with the artist Steven Walker, we explore how dedication, focus, and setting the right priorities creates an environment that empowers creativity and excellence in the studio. What grounds you in the chaos that life throws your way? Is your painting what grounds you and keeps you headed in the right direction? Maybe for you, it’s family or friends who keep you focused on what really matters in life. While the answer might change from person to person, the truth is, we all need something that helps us keep it all in perspective. It was an honor to speak with my guest, Steven Walker as we explored what it takes to make the most of the hand you're dealt. From parenting, understanding depression, honing your craft, and so much more - Steven was kind enough to really open up in our wide-ranging conversation - I know that artists like you will learn a lot! How Painter Steven Walker Learned the hard way Every artist has that one hurdle that stands in their way - some of us deal with multiple hurdles at once and often at different times through our lives. Steven Walker remembers learning several lessons in his life the hard way - one, in particular, was the first time he tried to mix colors for his first painting. Then, fresh out of high school, Steven quickly learned that being the most talented in a high school doesn’t mean much in college. Steven excelled in high school where he honed his skill at drawing but he never took the opportunity at the canvas. You would never guess that Steven’s creative journey started that way by looking at his artwork today! Rolling with the punches Let’s face it, no one plans on having to struggle with mental health. For years, Steven struggled with depression, he couldn’t understand what it was that was holding him back for so long. Eventually, Steven got the help he needed to thrive and live with his depression - he learned how to roll with the punches. If you want to succeed, you need to find what works for you - every one of us has a different answer for how we will face adversity and challenges when they arise. Finding your center One of the best ways to weather the storms that life throws your way is to find your center. While the rest of the world might assume that we live to work, the truth is we need something that grounds us just like everyone else. Steven's center is his family, plain and simple. When things go crazy in life, Steven buckles down and makes sure that his family is OK above all else. You can also see this theme of finding your center expressed through Steven’s artwork, make sure to check out images of his artwork located at the end of this post. The guest on todays episode is a good friend of mine, and a very talented gentlemen. Not only is he a content creator for Neural DSP (which for those of you who don't know, is a leader in the guitar amp world, and soon to be in the physical market as well with their new Quad Cortex model), but he is also a gifted musicians, audio engineer, and just frankly one of the most honest and genuine people I've had the pleasure of knowing! I'm talking about, of course, Steven Ward! Steven and I met, many digital moons ago, via an online mixing community called URM - Ultimate Recording Machine. I needed an assistant engineer to take on some editing work for me and somehow I found Steven, and I remember that I instantly believed that he'd get the job done. That gut instinct proved to be correct and we worked together for awhile afterwards, but all that while, Steven had his own ambitions in the works - in which he succeeded at fantastically! In this episode you'll learn: Why the worst events in your life can push you towards making the best choices of your life. How Steven became a full-time content creatorHow to pivot careers at the drop of a hatand much, much more! This episode is really the success story of one of my friends, but if you aren't able to pull good business advice from this story - you aren't listening! This is a 'how to get ahead' cheat code to the game of life, and Steven tells us exactly what type of mindset it takes, as well as touching on some very important things, like how content marketing could be a great avenue for your band. As the Executive Director of the Flow Research Collective, he is one of the world's leading experts on high performance. His most recent work, Stealing Fire, was a national bestseller and nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. It documents an underground revolution in peak performance that is rapidly going mainstream, fueling a trillion dollar economy and forcing us to rethink how we lead more satisfying, productive and meaningful lives. Steven's work has been translated into over 40 languages and appeared in over 100 publications, including The New York Times, Atlantic Monthly, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Wired and TIME. He also appears frequently on television and radio, and lectures widely on human performance, disruptive technology and radical innovation. Steven is also the cofounder of Creating Equilibrium, a conference/concert/innovation accelerator focused on solving critical environmental challenges, and, alongside his wife, author Joy Nicholson, Steven is the cofounder of Rancho de Chihuahua, a hospice care/special needs care dog sanctuary in the mountains of Northern New Mexico. He has a BA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and an MA from Johns Hopkins University and, whenever possible, can be found hurling himself down mountains at high speeds. What you'll learn about in this episode: What major shifts Steven has recognized in the realm of “peak performance” in the last ten years, and why podcasts have led the way in creating the shift What peak performance is, how the science behind it has progressed, and why what works for one person won't necessarily work for another How science defines a state of “flow”, and what parts make up the six core experiences of the state of flow How to train your mind to help you get into a state of flow, and what key activities help you trigger flow Why you should end each day with a list containing a specific number of goals for the next day where you can be excellent Why achieving flow is easier than you might think, if you develop key habits and know the process and triggers How Steven began teaching others the skills and neuroscience behind peak performance and achieving flow How achieving a state of flow can help real estate investors in particular, and how flow can help you keep up with technological shifts How the last stage of the flow cycle is the “active recovery” period, and how that recovery period is critical for avoiding burnout How learning to manage your state of flow can help you perform better, be more creative, and accomplish your goals Resources: Free “flow blockers” diagnostic: www.flowresearchcollective.com/flow-blocker-quiz Website: www.flowresearchcollective.com LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/steven-kotler-4305b110/ LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/company/flow-research-collective/ Facebook: www.facebook.com/flowresearchcollective/ Twitter: @steven_kotler Additional resources: Website: SmartRealEstateCoach.com/QLS Website: www.SmartRealEstateCoachPodcast.com/ebook Website: www.SmartRealEstateCoachPodcast.com/webinar Website: www.SmartRealEstateCoachPodcast.com/termsbook Smart Real Estate Coach Podcast Sponsor: Paul G. In celebration of the two-year anniversary of the podcast, Dan Neumann is joined by Sam Falco, co-founder of the Agile Coaches’ Corner podcast. In the theme of continuous improvement, Dan and Sam take a look back on the last two years of the podcast and reflect on all that they’ve learned about podcasting and agility. They also invite on some of their favorite past guests and AgileThought colleagues to share their own biggest takeaways and lessons learned from the past two years on the theme of agility. Andrea Floyd, Agile Transformation Consultant; Adam Ulery, Senior Agile Coach; Quincy Jordan, Principal Transformation Consultant; Steven Granese, Managing Director of the Transform Practice; and Michael Guiler, Agile Consultant. Key Takeaways Andrea Floyd Key lesson: the importance of the Agile mindset and an Agile culture coupled with any Agile journey “What does it mean for us to be successful?” “What will that take from a mindset and culture perspective?” — Andrea Floyd Tools and techniques: exercises around value stream mapping, understanding what value means to your customers and users, design-thinking techniques around customer journey mapping, good leadership, and commitment from the whole organization Adam Ulery Key lesson: the importance of having committed top-level leaders in an Agile transformation The buy-in of leadership in a transformation is key (it makes the difference in creating real change or giving up) Drawbacks that occur without leadership buy-in: change will only occur in small pockets at best, more than likely it will flounder and never transform the people and the way they work Tools and techniques: in order for leaders to transform themselves they must be committed and willing, step out of their comfort zone, push through fears, and commit to change In summary: it is important to have top-level leaders that are committed to the transformation and are committed to change Quincy Jordan Key lesson: Agile is Agile (it has transformed, evolved, and adapted over the years) It used to be considered strictly for software development but has now been taken outside of IT; into HR, marketing, etc. The overall thinking has made a big splash in non-IT environments A challenge with agility being adopted into non-IT environments: sometimes business and leadership have a misconception that agility is only IT so they believe it is not relevant to them When agility ripples outside of IT, it can be really powerful Michael Guiler Key lesson: that the business side has really begun to take hold of agility What has caused the shift from technology-driven agility to business-driven agility: the entire world has fundamentally begun to understand that agility is key (i.e. “We can’t just have really detail-oriented plans with a command and control structure and be able to compete in today’s world” — Michael Guiler) Now, business wants to build an environment where they can really pivot on a dime and compete — and agility is the way to do that Steven Granese Key lesson: it is very difficult to define what agility is — especially with large organizations There are a lot of different ideas and definitions about what agility is It can be hard to define what problem the client is trying to solve and why agility would help them How Steven has seen the problems that clients are trying to solve change over the years: 1) From a focus on speed (the speed with which they need to continuously adapt) to a focus on market changes (it’s the organizations that focus on market demands that are the ones having the most success) 2) There used to be more of a concern about leaning too much on tooling and automation but now it has become so good and there is so much more that is possible now due to the tools that are available Sam Falco Key lesson: Agility spreads beyond IT — even to a personal level “Even on a personal level, I have taken a lot of the principles and ideas — and even the practices of Scrum — into my own personal life. I use Scrum on a weekly basis; I do one-week sprints for myself.” — Sam Falco Sam has lowered his personal work-in-progress limit from three to two and his throughput shot way up He’s learned how to apply agility in all sorts of situations Dan Neumann Key lesson: the power of collaboration (specifically, the value of collaborating with people) You can riff off each other if a client isn’t quite hearing what one of you is trying to say Diversity of perspective is tremendously valuable (just like on any well-functioning team) Mentioned in this Episode: Steven Granese Andrea Floyd Adam Ulery Quincy Jordan Michael Guiler The Age of Agile: How Smart Companies Are Transforming the Way Work Gets Done, by Stephen Denning Eric Landes Want to Learn More or Get in Touch? In this video I share my conversation with Steven Mark Ryan of @Solving The Money Problem . My next interview will be with @Chicken Genius Singapore . Note: I'm not going to agree with everything everyone says in these long-form conversations, but I don't feel the need to interrupt and argue on everything I disagree with. So, just because I didn't address or call out an issue, it doesn't mean that I'm in agreement. Rather, in this conversation there were many beliefs and approaches where I had a different opinion or belief, and occasionally I did share those but most of the time I didn't since the point of the conversation wasn't to be right but rather to try to find common ground and to explore depth and clarity of thought (sometimes people have it and sometimes they don’t, including myself). Don’t believe stuff just because someone on YouTube says it’s true, rather evaluate and be responsible for your own beliefs and approaches. Steven Sashen dives into things feet first. In fact, it’s his company motto. Xero Shoes was built out of a need for Steven to free his feet. After picking up sprinting again following a 30 year hiatus, Steven would injure himself constantly. Every couple of weeks would bring another pulled muscle or ankle strain. When a friend suggested a barefoot run, everything changed. After his first run with a barefoot running group, Steven was awakened with a new awareness of how his feet interacted with the ground. He ran 5K on that very first go around and was shocked at how easy it felt on his body. He was even able to pinpoint a reason for why he was injuring one leg more than the other. All this knowledge was too empowering to ignore, and Xero Shoes was born. In this conversation, Steven and I get into how incredibly powerful and intuitive our feet really are. We explore the foot to brain connection and how the modern day athletic shoe is counterproductive to the way we physically interact with the ground under our feet. Steven gives us the origin story of Xero Shoes, which gives you an understanding of why I refer to him as a “Master of Movement”. So kick off your shoes, and take a listen to this one, guys! I hope that Steven's message today will give you the ability to go out and get help with your addiction. Listen in on his message of hope. Steven decided to come onto the show today to share his message of hard work and determination when coming off drug addiction. His early life, as a child living with his mother, gave Steven his first exposure to drug use and addiction. This was a radical difference from the structured and disciplined military life he led when he was under his father’s care. At eight years old, his aunt gave him his first joint, and his uncle gave him his first beer that summer. Later that year, he started smoking cigarettes, also given to him by a family member on his mother’s side. By the time he was 13, he was smoking a pack a day of cigarettes. Enabling children and giving them what they want tends to lead a person down the path of addiction. Being able to do “anything you want” gives the impression that doing anything is OK. The enabler is not able to stop the behavior that is allowing the addict to continue. Steven’s introduction to continual access to drugs and alcohol started in middle school, where he would idolize rock bands, play music and go out into a field and get drunk with his friends. In high school, he joined his first band, half of whom were on probation. Steven himself ended up on probation for six months. During his probation, he developed a reliance on synthetic cannabinoids. Even though he was on-track to graduate early from high school, he was expelled his junior year and dropped out twice his senior year. Steven thought drinking was a typical teen activity. Looking back, he realized his behavior wasn’t normal - the party never stopped - he was continually drinking throughout the day. Playing in a band gave Steven purpose, finding a role in music was where he fit in socially. His world as an adult is still tied to his childhood traumas, with abandonment issues and feeling he isn’t good enough. These are the feelings that lead to addiction and make addiction so hard to break. In 2017, Steven broke up with his girlfriend, and he realized he was always drunk. He would buy beer, put the beer in his backpack, and drink beer in the bathroom every hour he was at work. His ex-girlfriend was also addicted, she didn’t want to be addicted. Steven realized that he, as well as she, needed to go into rehab. Listen in to hear Steven’s story of drinking, being miserable and him being in and out of IOP and working a 12-step program. Show Notes: [04:29] I introduce Steven and he gives background on his lifestyle growing up and the large amount of difference between living with his mother and living with his father. [07:25] Steven tells about his family growing up, how his family became a blended family. [09:29] His mother and aunt are still addicted and not clean. [11:45] Steven and I talk about the enabling aspect of addiction. [15:26] Where Steven’s addiction stems from. [17:20] Steven’s first consequence: probation for six months. [19:27] The party never stopped for Steven, he was always drinking. [20:30] He describes how playing in a band gave him purpose. [25:49] Steven deals with abandonment issues, even as an adult. [27:24] The turning point where Steven decides he has to make a change. [35:23] How Steven started drinking more to cope with the misery of the breakup with his girlfriend. [38:03] What is Steven doing now and what would he say to the Steven that was living under the bridge several years ago. [44:05] The message I’m hearing is hope! [48:26] “Give yourself a shot, even if you don’t think you’re worth it.” Links and Resources: Real Recovery Talk on YouTube
This week on MIA Radio, we interview Professor of Psychology Dr. Steven C. Hayes. Dr. Hayes is Nevada Foundation Professor in the Behavior Analysis program at the Department of Psychology at the University of Nevada. An author of 45 books and over 625 scientific articles, his career has focused on an analysis of the nature of human language and cognition and the application of this to the understanding and alleviation of human suffering. He is the developer of Relational Frame Theory, an account of human higher cognition, and has guided its extension to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a popular evidence-based form of psychotherapy that uses mindfulness, acceptance, and values-based methods. Dr. Hayes has been President of several scientific and professional societies including the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapy, and the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science. He was the first Secretary-Treasurer of the Association for Psychological Science, which he helped form and has served a 5-year term on the National Advisory Council for Drug Abuse in the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Hayes received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapy and was recently named as a Fellow in the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In this interview we talk about his recently released book, A Liberated Mind: How to Pivot Toward What Matters, which uses the principles of acceptance and commitment therapy to help readers overcome negative thoughts and feelings, turn pain into purpose, and build a meaningful life. We discuss: What led Steven to his interest in psychology and, in particular, behavioral science. That his keen interest was to mix an understanding of human experience with analytical science. How he came to be standing on stage in Nevada at a 2016 TEDx talk, relating his experiences of panic disorder and ‘hitting bottom’. How Steven has dedicated his life to helping people understand how they can be their whole selves while dealing with their problems and distress. How his book ‘A Liberated Mind’ was in part based on his own experiences but also presents the voluminous research that underlies Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). That ACT is based on the psychological flexibility model and involved pulling at the threads of cognition and language to understand the fundamentals. How ACT is a combination of acceptance and mindfulness processes and commitment/behaviour changes, referred to in the book as ‘pivots’ and ‘turning towards’. That ACT allows us to be present with our difficulties in a way that we can learn from distress without becoming entangled. That the book defines six basic processes: defusion, self, acceptance, presence, values and action. How it is important not to believe that we need ‘fixing’ before we can move on with our lives. That acceptance is often seen as giving up or tolerance but is better viewed as the response to receiving a gift. How acceptance opens us up to the validity of our experiences and can help to achieve a healthy distance from distressing experiences. How pain, judgement and comparison impact our lives. That reliance on medications can mean that we become numb to experiences that we could learn from if we turned or pivoted towards them. That the guide to happiness is hidden within our misery. Steven Cornett’s passion for farming has boundaries: 5,000 square feet, to be exact. His second urban farm thrives in Lemon Grove, California, just outside San Diego. When he posted on NextDoor.com to find a location, he received over 20 genuine responses. “This is something that people are really into now and want to support and want to see happen,” he says. And when he’s not tending to his farm, he’s publishing content about growing and gardening on Youtube and Instagram. His farm may be located in California, but that doesn’t mean his mission to educate stops there. In this episode we discuss: How Steven started his first urban farm - How Steven started his second urban farm - What methods and equipment he recommends for prepping your farm - How much it costs to start an urban farm - How Steven divides his time between farming and creating content - The best crops for beginners to grow - Why selling produce is the most difficult (but rewarding) part of farming - How the app Vinder connects farmers with consumers - Why he wants people to grow their own food Full show notes and links mentioned in the interview available at https://foodheroespodcast.com

Today's guest is a man who has had one of the most eclectic careers that I have ever seen. With just a few of the highlights or low-lights being such as "Been in a boy band, Wished I was in a successful boy band! ,Swept floors in a factory, Managed acts on X Factor and written contestant songs, Flown Concorde, Written hit records, including 1 Pop Idol winners record, Drunk Champagne with Charles & Liz at Buck House, Been to rock bottom twice, started a business with Duncan Bannatyne, Ended a business with Duncan Bannatyne" and now he is in the digital business.Wow, there is certainly a story behind this guy for sure.As he says " For all the many high points, I've also experienced more temporary failure than is good for one person. There have been many, many periods in which I have made a complete hash of things when I've snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and flopped on the final furlong. I've tripped on the finish line so often I've questioned my own sanity. If there was a lesson to be learned I've lived it, studied it, absorbed it, taken it on board and then ignored it many times over – even when I think I've understood it I've had to go through it again a few times to really know what it means. And that is a great life lesson, right there – the situation that slaps you will keep repeating until you learn the lesson. If there's one thing I have realised over the years it is that with every challenging life situation there is always the seed of opportunity and the hope of brilliance within it. You just have to look for it and be open, which can be difficult when the shit is hitting the fan, but if you are ever going to be successful you must embrace this skill with open arms. Now he is bringing those amazing life lessons to the world through a new book One Golden Nugget where he is asking the world what is there view on where success is hidden. So does he lay in bed, with his hand behind his head and smile at the journey he has been on? Content that it has put him where he was always heading?Or was there a door that he could have walked through back in the day which was the perfect one?Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Steven Foster Show Highlights During the show we discussed such deep subjects with Steven Foster such as:How he honestly thinks he hasn't got the mental intelligence to know if something is going to be difficult before starting. Is that a super-talent or hindrance?Steven shares how he went into his bedroom with depression and didn't come out for over a year. How Steven failed at so many things that he didn't want to do, he finally decided that he would only go for what he loved. And lastly………..Why life is about the journey as much as the rewards, but without fail the rewards are always in the present moment, no matter how much we think otherwise.

At Villa Cappelli, we often surround ourselves with stereotypical Italian music like pizzica or Neopolitan classics, but when guest Michael Hynes visited, we were entertained with the likes of Elton John, Billy Joel and more! It was another magical moment with our guests, and hopefully, the podcast captures even just a little bit of that. Topics we cover: How guests surprise us with their talents here at Villa Cappelli, including our latest guest from Australia, Michael Hynes How Steven has never tried Vegemite What Vegemite is actually like How we "discovered" Michael talent at the piano How Michael can easily memorize the songs, but is slower in memorizing the lyrics Paul's favorite song from his Catholic Confirmation (and yes, he really does sing in during the episode) Michael is a human jukebox, knowing over 500 songs!!! How Steven couldn't memorize a song for the life of him during high school band Michael doesn't consider himself a genius, but the writers of the songs are the geniuses How we got our piano at Villa Cappelli, especially since neither Paul nor Steven play Other guests have also just sat down at the piano and started playing Mike plays Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen Here is Leonard's version, but dare I say I like Michael's better? Here are the lyrics for those die-hard fans: "Hallelujah" Now I've heard there was a secret chord That David played, and it pleased the Lord But you don't really care for music, do you? It goes like this The fourth, the fifth The minor fall, the major lift The baffled king composing Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Your faith was strong but you needed proof You saw her bathing on the roof Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you She tied you to a kitchen chair She broke your throne, and she cut your hair And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah You say I took the name in vain I don't even know the name But if I did, well really, what's it to you? There's a blaze of light In every word It doesn't matter which you heard The holy or the broken Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah I did my best, it wasn't much I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you And even though it all went wrong I'll stand before the Lord of Song With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah The pianos that Michael has at home Michael's whole family is musically inclined The amazing organ in the Terlizzi cathedral The day of shopping Paul and Michael did Steven's theory on why some Italian Americans call pasta sauce "gravy" How the Italians and Irish never got along, until.... Some Australian slang A little about the cockney rhyming slang Michael sings a bit of "I get no kick from champagne" A bit about songwriters and how songwriters and lyrists work together The mural discovered in Terlizzi showing the story of Joseph and his multi-colored coat Paul's experience seeing an Elton John concert Michael sings "Candle in the wind" Goodbye Norma Jean Though I never knew you at all You had the grace to hold yourself While those around you crawled They crawled out of the woodwork And they whispered into your brain They set you on the treadmill And they made you change your name And it seems to me you lived your life Like a candle in the wind Never knowing who to cling to When the rain set in And I would have liked to have known you But I was just a kid Your candle burned out long before Your legend ever did Loneliness was tough The toughest role you ever played Hollywood created a superstar And pain was the price you paid Even when you died Oh the press still hounded you All the papers had to say Was that Marilyn was found in the nude Goodbye Norma Jean From the young man in the 22nd row Who sees you as something as more than sexual More than just our Marilyn Monroe Written by Bernie Taupin, Elton John • Copyright © Universal Music Publishing Group Why Paul believes that song has done more for Marilyn's legend than anything else The famous castrato from Terlizzi Three of Paul's most memorable concerts 1. Three Dog Night And Michael sings a bit of "Joy to the World (Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog)" 2. Watkins Glen Racetrack with 700,000 people Billy Joel at Carnegie Hall A Michael sings "New York State of Mind" Some folks like to get away Take a holiday from the neighborhood Hop a flight to Miami Beach Or to Hollywood But I'm taking a Greyhound On the Hudson River Line I'm in a New York state of mind I've seen all the movie stars In their fancy cars and their limousines Been high in the Rockies under the evergreens But I know what I'm needing And I don't want to waste more time I'm in a New York state of mind It was so easy living day by day Out of touch with the rhythm and blues But now I need a little give and take The New York Times, The Daily News It comes down to reality And it's fine with me 'cause I've let it slide Don't care if it's Chinatown or on Riverside I don't have any reasons I've left them all behind I'm in a New York state of mind It was so easy living day by day Out of touch with the rhythm and blues But now I need a little give and take The New York Times, The Daily News It comes down to reality And it's fine with me 'cause I've let it slide Don't care if it's Chinatown or on Riverside I don't have any reasons I've left them all behind I'm in a New York state of mind I'm just taking a Greyhound on the Hudson River Line 'Cause I'm in a New York state of mind And finally, Michaels sings us out with "Somebody to love" Can anybody find me somebody to love? Each morning I get up I die a little Can barely stand on my feet (take a look at yourself) Take a look in the mirror and cry Lord, what you're doing to me I have spent all my years in believing you But I just can't get no relief, Lord! Somebody, somebody Can anybody find me somebody to love? I work hard (he works hard) every day of my life I work 'til I ache my bones At the end (at the end of the day) I take home my hard-earned pay all on my own I get down (down) on my knees (knees) And I start to pray (praise the Lord) 'Til the tears run down from my eyes Lord, somebody, somebody (please) Can anybody find me somebody to love? (he works hard) everyday (everyday) I try, and I try, and I try But everybody wants to put me down They say I'm goin' crazy They say I got a lot of water in my brain I got no common sense I got nobody left to believe in Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Oh, Lord Somebody, somebody Can anybody find me somebody to love? (Can anybody find me someone to love) Got no feel, I got no rhythm I just keep losing my beat (you just keep losing and losing) I'm OK, I'm alright (he's alright, he's alright) I ain't gonna face no defeat I just gotta get out of this prison cell One day (someday) I'm gonna be free, Lord! Find me somebody to love [repeat] Can anybody find me somebody to love? Some pics of Michael and Tanya during their stay with us: What did you think of our non stereotypical Italian music? Join us on a trip to the Amalfi Coastline, arguably one of the most beautiful places in the world. Learn what we think were definitely the highlights you shouldn't miss. Though we are not sure that is true any more. Anyone know for sure? Let us know in the comments. How we made very good time traveling from Villa Cappelli to Amafi, even taking a scenic tour How inexpensive it can be to rent a car in Italy, especially if you are an Italian citizen AutoEurope is the site Paul used to rent the car Paul thinks you should get an international license when coming to Italy and renting a car. Here's one site for that. How we met our friend ???? there to took us all around. It always helps to find a local who can show you around. The driving conditions in Amafi The Emerald Grotto The amazing ceramics shop we visited right across from the caves The big beautiful tables and other vases Our lunch in Priaino, a big beautiful cove where you can eat right on the water The restaurants we ate at in Amafi were good even though it was touristy places How the kid next to us at lunch was eating spaghetti and meatballs which we talk about this in another podcast and how it is a bit "don't" in Italy How the restaurants there will cater to the tastes of their clientele without really teaching them about the Italian culture The large buses on the winding roads How there are a lot fewer cars on the road at night That night we went to see the procession of Saint Andrew This link will give your more info on him, but here's the gist: He was probably the brother of Simon Peter. They were both fishermen (so I did see him holding a fishing net), thus the tradition that when Jesus called them to be his disciples, he said he would make them "fisher of men" How Amafi is a member of the four Maritime Republics — Pisa, Genoa, Venice, Amafi The size of the procession compared to ours in August How the priests had to carry down the statute down the steep stairs Why the saints are only the busts How they set off cannon shots during the procession which can be pretty dang surprising Our dinner of fried fish, Neapolitan pizza, and vodka — the vodka being half the cost of the meal The fireworks of the festival Furore where our hotel La Locanda del Furore was How we feel we compare to the tourism in Amafi How the Amafi coast is probably not for the physically challenged Renting a boat and seeing the coast from a boat and just how beautiful it is We highly recommending renting a boat when you are there to see the coast from the water How you steer away from Amafi during July and August Ravello, one of the most beautiful and amazing spots How Paul realizes he actually was in Amafi years ago The Villa Cimbrone gardens with a terrace 390m or 1,300 ft. high with amazing views How the gardens are so beautiful in Amafi How beautiful the town of Ravello was The amazing horizon pools in Amafi How a trip like this can inspire you to improve your own space The restaurant where we ate lunch on our final day which you can only get to by boat How the Amafi coast reminded of us mix of the south of France and the Greek islands The Monastero Santa Rosa. I mentioned in the podcast I would scan some photos, but actually their website does an amazing job with a photo tour here. Where the nuns would get mummified back in the day How Steven forgets that outside of Puglia, especially in touristy places like Amafi, others speak English How the radio actually had a segment called "English is the future" and taught listeners English through the song Killing Me Softly Steven enjoying the boat ride Paul relaxing in the boat Paul taking a dip in the blue water The church in Amalfi The procession of Saint Andrew The view from Ravello Villa Cimbrone gardens Getting cheeky in the gardens Our final lunch right on the water [td_smart_list_end] Here's Paul going Facebook Live during the podcast: So what'd you think of our trip to the Amalfi Coastline? What did we miss? Anything you really want to see? Let us know in the comments.

Prepare for your mind to be blown by today's podcast guest. Mine certainly was. My guest is Steve Sisler, and today's episode, he tears me completely apart, absolutely amazes me as he "psychoanalyzes" me, and during the entire process, you're going to learn a ton about yourself and your behavior. If you've ever wanted to know what makes you tick... Exactly why you think the way you do... What drives you personally when you exercise or race... How you interact with people and relationships (and how you can make this work for or against you)... And why you behave the way you behave... This episode is a must-listen for you... Steve is author of the book: , a behavioral profiler and lead behavioral analyst at He works with clients in more than 18 nations, gathering behavioral, emotional, and attitudinal information on individuals within corporate and personal settings. Then he develops strategies for leadership, teamwork, and entrepreneurial or career success. Steve is widely considered as the “go to” source for behavioral and attitudinal issues within the framework of both business and family (he's been doing this stuff since the shocking age of twelve!). He is considered a true anomaly within the world of behavioral analysis. During our fascinating discussion, you'll discover: -How Steven developed the crazy skill of being able to "read people" extremely accurately from the young age of twelve... -The one unique attitude Steven found me to possess - an attitude that only 2% of people on the face of the planet can match... -Why people perceive me to be aloof and arrogant based on my high level of no-nonsense, black-and-white thinking... -Why Steven observes that I could be either a very good assassin or a sniper... -How when I am in work mode I become a complete perfectionistic machine and check my emotions at the door... -Why I score very high on alternative ideas, unconventional thoughts and thinking outside-the-box... -The reason Steven thinks I'm not competitive, but rather simply an artist, discoverer and educator... -I don't compete and race and spend time in the gym because I'm competitive, but rather because I am, what Steven describes as a "body artist"... -Why I score extremely high on individualism, innovation, uniqueness, autonomy, freedom (and hate teleprompters)... -The reason I'm very comfortable not necessarily being the person in charge... -Why I am a rule-breaker and why I have a negative, cautious bias when it comes to following rules...... -The reason some people can perceive that I don't "care", and why I tend to care the most about people who are making an effort to help themselves... -What it means to have an itchy brain, and why some people will change direction very quickly in life and let go of non-effective ideas easily... -Why my score is crystal clear when it comes to how my choices affect those around me, and why it's extremely important to me that any decision I make not hurt anyone around me... -Why I'm extremely demanding and critical of myself... -The personality that makes me relentless, want to never give up, keep striving to get better and better, and have a perception nobody can stop me... -Why I'm very clear about who I am... -And much more! Steve is offering a significant discount on the exact behavioral analysis we do in this episode. Details below!
