We are excited to have Dave Feldman joining us as our guest for today’s show. Dave is a Senior Software Engineer who became obsessed with cholesterol after seeing his levels rise on a ketogenic diet. That led to his observation of the “Lipid Energy Model” to help explain these changes, and he has since conducted over fifty experiments that demonstrate rapid changes of lipid levels using this new understanding. Dave has done some very interesting work. He admits to being a bit obsessed with cholesterol, which is a synthesized organic molecule that binds every single cell in our bodies. He describes it as “the intellectual property of the animal kingdom”. In this episode, he talks to us about what opened up his interest in cholesterol, what cholesterol represents, and how it works in the body. He also discusses how the cholesterol paradigm has shifted, the effects of a ketogenic diet on cholesterol levels, and he explains his Lipid Energy Model. Dave can dilute the very complicated information about cholesterol and makes it accessible, so stay tuned to find out all you need to know about cholesterol, lipids, and triglycerides. IN THIS EPISODE YOU’LL LEARN: What cholesterol represents, why you should be concerned about it, and how that paradigm has shifted. Why cholesterol would go up on a low carb diet. The risk associated with the changes in lipids for low carb. What surprised Dave when he looked at his lab results before, and then after starting keto. Dave’s fascinating Lipid Energy Model. What and who the lean-mass hyper-responders are. How you can hack your labs. How rapidly your blood work numbers can change, and the importance of being transparent with your health-care provider. Why some people remain insulin resistant when they are ketogenic, and whether or not that is acceptable. Whether or not Dave thinks that whole carbs will oxidize. How can we truly answer the question of risk in this uncharted territory? What Jon recommends to gym owners when it comes to growth and also adding online coaching possibilities. As a fitness professional you’re going to come out of COVID in one of two ways. Learn them. The power of being great on camera and whether you can be successful without it. And much more. I met Matt Dawson through a mutual friend and it didn't take me long to realize that we were cut from the same cloth. Like me, Matt is trying to achieve a goal that some would deem "crazy". And I knew I needed to get him on the podcast to talk about it. Matt’s journey started much like my own – as an athlete. Following his athletic career, he then entered the fast-paced world of investment banking – where he worked 80-100 hour work weeks and created a lot of success for himself. But life, as it so often does, threw him some curve balls which led him to discovering his purpose and the creation of two endeavours: the Dawson’s Peak Organization, and Project Seven for Soldiers; when he will attempt to break seven world records with all proceeds going to charity. Matt's goal is both simple and inspiring: to make a positive impact on others. In this episode of the podcast we talk about how taking on your own personal challenges can help you create the best version of yourself; while elevating those around you. This is an inspiring and impactful episode that is a must to listen to if you want to get fired up about achieving the peak of your performance. With that said, let's go. IN THIS EPISODE YOU’LL LEARN: What led Dawson’s from sports to investment banking – where he became a high performer Why despite Matt's success as an investment banker, he felt something was missing in his life – which led him to find purposeWhat made Matt decide at the age of 37 to take on the challenge of breaking world records in mountaineering, along with some other wild recordsWhat purpose means to Matt and what he believes you should do as an individual and as a businessCreating Dawsons Peak and inspiring transformations through pushing the boundaries of human capabilityThe personal mountain you must climb to achieve a transformation in your life. We talk about the limits that we impose on ourself, our goals and dreams, and how to break through themThe importance of creating social impact aside from profits (or making money) in your lifeHow you redirect your fears to make you as successful as possibleWhat you can and can’t control and how to drop your stress and anxieties so that you can achieve the impossibleWhy the hardest thing for most is to sit quietly with themselves and why the mountains and adventure can help you be alone and discover yourselfTraveling and how it changes you from the inside out (ie. giving up control and working on things you can control)Why as a society we’ve become too comfortable and how we can truly feel our best when we’re pushing and challenging ourselvesWhat “Bathing in the fire” and “Getting the evil out of me” mean and how it can help you become your bestAnd so much more. I met Paul Mort in a business mastermind almost a decade ago. At the time, he was a personal trainer running boot camps in England and had built it up to 17 locations. He was brilliant — but at the same time — crazy, and a roller coaster. Throughout the years we became close friends as I watched him build and sell companies, all while struggling personally with bi-polar disorder – which wrecked havoc on his health and family. This all came to a climax when in 2014 he was on the edge of a cliff ready to jump and take his own life. What happens next is not only incredible, but also inspirational. As Paul took the step back, he made the decision to turn his life around in every way. He has since became unstoppable in the areas of business and fitness. He also saved his marriage and family. Today he is off the lithium medication and helping other men turn their lives around. Paul came and visited me in Slovenia to hang out for three-days and we decided to shoot this podcast because his story is too powerful — and full of lessons that I believe will help others transform — not to. Let's go. IN THIS EPISODE YOU’LL LEARN: What stopped Paul from jumping off the cliff – and the question that could turn your life aroundWhen you’re feeling down or depressed, the steps to change that “state” which helped Paul breakthroughHow to get out of the movie that you’re playing in your head by asking yourself THIS series of questionsWhy things don't turn out great when you start a sentence with, “I feel like…”, and what you should say insteadHow to create avoid creating a strategy that ends up making you feel like crapThe happiness list and how to instantly improve your daysHow to know when you’re being true to your vision of success as opposed to chasing someone else version of itHow to match up 'what's behind the scenes' and what you're actually putting up on stageHow Paul was able to scale his business with ONE marketing platform and build a million dollar businesses. In this episode, we break down what is account-based even mean and why you should start fishing with dynamite rather than spears. Not long ago, a few of us here at the office started debating what was the most popular sales related movie. Surprisingly, there was not a clear winner. I was shocked at some of the movies that people mentioned as I didn’t really considerer them a movie related to sales. After a lot of discussion we decided we'd finalize the debate with a research study. Why not ask a few hundred sales people what their favorite sales related movie was and once and for all see if we couldn’t settle the debate. So we did.
