When is the best time to workout in the day for fat loss? In this episode of The Evolving Wellness Podcast, I chat with guest Rob Jacobs about the best time in the day one can workout to maximize fat loss. Rob explains how the answer to this question may differ based on what kind of exercises you are doing, but that workout timing is just as important as nutrient timing following that workout. Rob also shares how different types of workouts can affect cortisol, i.e. your nervous system. Exercise is a stressor for your body and if your nervous system is already overloaded, overly strenuous workouts may not help you progress further but only cause your body more harm. That's why it's important to chose appropriate workouts based on what your nervous system can handle. As an international Lecturer/Coach and Published author, Rob Jacobs has spent the last 21 years as a strength and conditioning coach. Saddleback Spiritual Growth Pastors Jason Wieland and Rob Jacobs talk about The Wall, an experience that all Christians face at some point or multiple points. Sometimes called “the dark night of the soul”, the wall is a season of spiritual dryness where one feels that God is distant. Rob and Jason talk about the wall's place in the JESUS stages, what it looks like being at the wall, and the emotional toll that the wall can take. The conversation, though, continues to talk about the wall as an invitation to step into a new season of deep, vulnerable growth with Jesus. Doable Discipleship is a Saddleback Church podcast produced and hosted by the Saddleback Spiritual Growth Team. How do we change and grow?  Seems like a pretty straightforward question…until you dig a little deeper.  This is the first of a two-part episode that explores the various ways this question has been answered by secular philosophers  as well as how the church has incorporated these ways of thinking into the approaches it uses to help people change and grow.  This episode explores three paradigms - The first is: “Information = Transformation” and it poses the question - does transformation happen as I accumulate correct knowledge? The second is: “Do the Right Thing” which seeks to determine if transformation happens as we accumulate longer and longer strings of good deeds. The third is: “Power to the People” which asserts that the ability to change and grow is tied to  having the power in a given situation. Episode two will look at our current cultural reality and then propose a Biblical perspective for change and growth that involves knowing, doing and power under the umbrella of attachment to God.   Join your hosts Brandon Bathauer and Linda Tokar and their special guest, Rob Jacobs as we seek to really understand how we change and grow.  Doable Discipleship is a Saddleback Church podcast produced and hosted by the Saddleback Spiritual Growth Team. We look for resources to give us the "right" words or teach us the "right" technique and are disappointed when they don't seem to help. Prayer is a place for us to be honest, present, and known--a place for us to offer ourselves and receive God. For complete show notes, click HERE

Rob Jacobs is the guy who gets people up-and-out of their chairs and moving again! A personal fitness expert and the co-founder of UnSit, an innovative company working to get people UP out of their chairs and moving again with the world’s first Treadmill Desk optimized for use in an office environment. His background is firmly in the fitness industry having been in treadmill retail and commercial equipment including a repairs and servicing business model. Being a fitness enthusiast sitting at a chair all day made Rob research into how to help people with desk jobs get fitter by moving more. First business startup – the walking centre. This was a fitness centre targeted at middle aged stay at home mums who would go into the store, rent a movie, and walk on a treadmill while watching their movie! This proved to be a great model for Rob. The results were very good and people started buying these high ticket treadmills in the Beverly Hills area, and opened more stores which also included the sale of commercial fitness equipment. Rob eventually sold out of the retail model after a number of years as the market changed with increased competition and margin pressure. Before selling out of retail Rob had developed a service model that repaired and serviced fitness equipment for health clubs and fitness centres, so with a new business partner Rob developed and grew this business to include retailing of spare parts. Rob has maintained and continued to grow this business over the last 25 years plus and it still continues to be his core revenue generator. The business model is ecommerce based enhanced with telephone technology support, targeted at out of warranty fitness equipment servicing clients in different countries. The problem that turned into a new business idea Rob found himself constantly sitting at a desk, servicing clients and growing his spare parts business, and found himself having less and less exercise, feeling lethargic, lower back problems all from sitting behind a desk far too long. A book by Dr. James Levine, who is credited as the popular inspiration for the treadmill desk, inspired Rob to work on solving his problem. Book reference: https://www.amazon.com/Get-Up-Chair-Killing-About/dp/1137278994 (Get up – why your chair is killing you, Dr James Levine) Rob had seen the idea before but he discredited it on the basis that he didn’t think a treadmill desk provided real exercise or real practicality in an office setting. [During this interview Rob was walking along at 1 mile per hour on his treadmill desk and by about 15 minutes into the interview he had clocked over 2,000 steps! Pretty impressive]. Dissecting the research and looking at the market opportunity Obesity is one third of US population, and this same third is also at the pre-diabetic stage estimated to require medicated treatment in a few years time Sitting disease is a term used in the book by Dr Levine which includes diabetes, heart disease and other chronic illnesses which can be prevented or recovered from through exercise Mental creativity is a softer science but this is the marketing point Rob has picked, exercise leads to a more productive and creative workforce and this can be achieved through the treadmill desk technology Designing the product After reading https://www.amazon.com/Get-Up-Chair-Killing-About/dp/1137278994 (Dr James Levine’s book) Rob decided to work on designing a product that was fit for purpose Most designs at this time simply took a tread mill and stuck it under a desk, but Rob figured there was better way Rob shares that while his academic qualifications are minimal and his learning quite empirical and self taught, this did not disadvantage his entrepreneurial journey Rob took out an old treadmill, a piece of plywood and created a frame around the treadmill, tweaked it and after a couple of months came up with half decent treadmill desk Then after using it a for a

The Treadmill Desk and The Benefits of Walking http://learntruehealth.com/treadmill-desk My guest today is a fitness expert and inventor of the revolutionary Treadmill Desk. Rob Jacobs is the creator of the first specifically designed Unsit Treadmill Desk. He designed the machine for the purpose of preventing the ill health effects caused by lack of movement and sitting too much. It can help invert the common office lifestyle, where there's plenty of time spent in sitting down than in making movements such as walking and standing. He believes that thru the Unsit Treadmill Desk, he can motivate people to move while working and help break the unhealthy habits of sitting too much. But, if one can not get a treadmill desk, then "set the alarm to get up and move every 20 minutes," says Rob. Hippocrates once said 2400 years ago, "Walking is a man's best medicine". According to physicians, if you want to add seven years to your life, take a 20 to 25-minute walk a day. Researchers also discovered that regular walking modifies our nervous system decreasing our chances of getting angry and hostile. And if you are stuck with work and couldn't get creative, experts advise taking a walk so as your creative juices will flow. "Sitting around on the job is something that's gonna go away for a variety of reasons, health reasons, fitness reasons, productivity reasons and creativity reasons. I find it more creative and I come up with ideas more when I wind up and walking around." - Rob Jacobs Sitting Is The New Smoking Rob believes that our body was designed to move around. That we will become more productive in our work if we stand up and move. And this is true. As a matter of fact, Dr. James Levine, M.D., Ph.D., of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and author of the book, Get Up "Our bodies have evolved over millions of years to do one thing: move. As human beings, we evolved to stand upright. For thousands of generations, our environment demanded nearly constant physical activity." Rob shares the physiological risks of prolonged sitting: Bottom of the feet - Serves as a "switch". When we stand up it sends a signal to the brain that there's a threat or there are opportunities. If we turned that switch "off" by sitting down too much, it sends a lot of functions in the brain that are meant for solving problems, to rest, or asleep. Calories burned start to drop lower to 1 calorie a minute because our body is at rest. Lower limbs -  When we are stuck in one right angle contraption, it puts pressure on the big muscles in the body impeding blood circulation in the lower limbs leading to all tingling pain. Spine- We're supposed to have a nice "S" form on our backs. But when we sit our spine is curving in a wrong direction. It is curved the other way squishing our discs backwards putting pressure on the nerves that later on leads to sciatic nerve pain. Shoulder and Neck: Too much sitting causes neck infringements and discomfort Blood Sugar - When our calories burned drop down to zero, we start to feel sleepy and loses energy. Normally, people grab caffeine and sugar to stay awake instead of walking and moving. In years of doing this, could lead to inflammation of pancreas or diabetes. How To Have An Effective Shift Of Mindset? Rob Jacobs shares tips on how to stop making excuses and avoid a sedentary lifestyle: Mental commitment - desire to do; willingness to achieve change Set a goal - eg. 10-min walk a day Improve nutrition intakes Start doing walking /standing breaks If one can afford, try the Unsit Treadmill Desk Rob Jacobs is a pioneer in the fitness industry. He completed UCLA’s Fitness Instructors Program in 1986 and founded The Walking Center, helping people develop a healthy habit of exercise through walking and running on treadmills. Rob is indeed a pioneer in the health industry as he launched a vegan and organic restaurant in the 1990s! In 1993 Rob co-founded  Real Food Daily restaurants with his wife, Ann Gentry. Their restaurant chain specializes in certified organic produce and product. RFD promotes sustainability by making plant-based foods appealing to mainstream restaurant patrons.
