What did “free speech” mean before the Civil War...and what did it cost? Today, I'm exploring how Americans have debated the meaning of liberty through words, images, and even violence beginning with Samuel Jennings's 1792 painting 'Liberty Displaying the Arts and Sciences' in 1790. Commissioned by Philadelphia's Library Company, this version of liberty is imagined as a goddess who uses her staff to bestow knowledge and emancipation.  Fast forward six decades, and a very different rod appears in the infamous 1856 caning of Senator Charles Sumner, captured in the print engraving 'Southern Chivalry.' Here, a gold-topped cane becomes a weapon to silence anti-slavery speech on the Senate floor. Along the way, we'll trace how abolitionists like Benjamin Franklin, John Quincy Adams, and Frederick Douglass defended speech as action, not abstraction, and how attempts to gag or punish words have only sharpened conflict in American history. Today's Works: Samuel Jennings, ‘Liberty Displaying the Arts and Sciences, or The Genius of America Encouraging the Emancipation of the Blacks' (c. 1792). Library Company of Philadelphia. and  John L. Magee, ‘Southern chivalry - argument versus clubs.' 1856. ______ New episodes every month. Let's keep in touch! If it sounds insane, that's because it is. But 73% of Republican voters polled believe that's the truth. Next, Michael looks at the Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene MAGA hate tour which they've billed the “America First Rally.” Should the GOP retake the House and Senate in 2022, this racist circus will be coming to an arena near you. Baltimore Sun reporters Hannah Gaskill and Dan Belson join us to discuss the right-wing takeover of the 187-year-old paper by the chairman on Sinclair Broadcasting. Since the acquisition the owners have union busted and installed gag orders on the workers. Please take a moment to participate in the Baltimore Sun's letter drive. Life Matters

Roe vs. Wade has not been overturned. The media has repeated it, but it's really not true.  In today's episode of Life Matters, we're going to spend some time talking about the meaning of the word ‘overturned'. What does that really mean?  But to answer that, you have to understand what Roe vs. Wade really did. Many people think that Roe vs. Wade simply gave women the right to choose.  We're going to talk about what the Supreme Court really did do in Roe, what it's doing now through the Dobbs Decision and the subsequent decisions which are limiting the power of the judiciary, because that's really what the Dobbs Decision is about. The Dobbs Decision doesn't even talk about protecting life. The Dobbs Decision ignores what Roe vs. Wade actually did. The Dobbs Decision basically said the Supreme Court shouldn't make any laws whatsoever, that the Supreme Court should not have interfered in the states' decisions and laws. Dobbs ruled on judicial review, and judicial activism. It is silent on abortion's propriety. But in Roe, The Court had MANDATED that doctors now be killers... this subject is ignored! And they're continuing to make that assertion. In essence, what the Supreme Court has done is, not only skirt the ethical issue in Roe v. Wade, but actually ignores the legal and ethical question of abortion. It does address a previous issue that goes all the way back towards America's founding, a case called Marbury vs. Madison. That's where the Court was perceived to have supreme authority over everything. The idea of judicial review, that there's three co-equal parts of government and it was going to be the Court. The Court gets to rule over the entire nation. But that's not in the Constitution. Marbury vs. Madison was wrongly decided.  The Supreme Court is not the king of the world. It is not the king of all laws. It is not Congress or the Senate. It cannot make laws. It is not more powerful than the executive branch. And yet that notion is deeply, deeply rooted in the minds of many Americans. Please have a deeper understanding of this battle. Understand the battle of ideas. Laws are basically ideas that are enforced. You must master the world of ideas. It's not hard, but you do have to apply yourself, rightly handling these ideas, rightly knowing and understanding the word of truth so that you can apply it to the culture right around you. You need to have an in-depth understanding of this battle if you're going to win. If you want to defend the defenseless, you must be prepared to fight in this battle of ideas because lives really are at stake.

The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Show (09/22/2025): 3:05pm- According to new data from CNN's Harry Enten, despite Donald Trump's personally low approval ratings, Republicans still possess massive polling advantages on three key issues: the economy, immigration, and crime. Enten joked that the Democrats have become the New Orlean Saints of political parties—which bodes poorly for the party's hopes of taking the House of Representatives and/or Senate in 2026. 3:10pm- On Sunday, Republican Jack Ciattarelli and Democrat Mikie Sherrill held their first NJ Gubernatorial debate at Rider University. During one notable moment, Sherrill refused to pledge that she wouldn't raise taxes on New Jersey citizens. One new poll now has Ciattarelli leading by 1-point. 3:30pm- During Sunday's debate, Mikie Sherrill attempted to explain why she voted in favor of a bipartisan House resolution honoring the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk—but publicly denounced Kirk, lying about his past comments and baselessly claiming he wanted to” roll back the rights of women and Black people.” Sherrill was unable to answer when confronted with her inconsistencies and falsehoods. 3:40pm- On Sunday, a memorial service for Charlie Kirk was held in Glendale, Arizona—with 73,000 inside of State Farm Stadium and an estimated 200,000 people in total showing up to the event. In a powerful moment during the ceremony, Erika Kirk said she forgives her husband's accused killer. 3:50pm- During her Monday briefing, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that President Donald Trump plans to sign an Executive Order designating Antifa as a terrorist organization. 4:05pm- Kimmel is Back: Last week, ABC/Disney indefinitely suspended “Jimmy Kimmel Live”—following Kimmel's comments on the killing of Charlie Kirk. The late-night host shamefully accused Republicans of using the death to “score political points.” While the network's move appeared to be a result of Kimmel's comments coupled with poor ratings, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr suggested his department could potentially investigate ABC/Disney over Kimmel's vitriolic remarks—muddying the waters. Many expressed concern that Carr's warning amounted to a First Amendment violation. ABC/Disney is now announcing that the suspension has concluded, and Kimmel will be back on-air Tuesday night. Rich notes that if Carr had not opened his mouth and baselessly threatened ABC/Disney, Kimmel's show would have likely ended permanently. Did Carr inadvertently save Kimmel's career? 4:20pm- Fox News reporter Peter Doocy asked President Trump: “If you could eat only one thing for a week, what would it be?” Trump responded, “probably steak.” 4:40pm- Joe Gruters—Chairman of the Republican National Committee—joins The Rich Zeoli Show for his first interview since becoming RNC Chair last month! He discusses his experience as a Florida State Senator, November's New Jersey gubernatorial election, and more. Chairman Gruters explains, “I'm committed to do whatever it takes to make sure we give the President a full four years [with a Republican-controlled House & Senate]” so “he continues to save the world.” 5:05pm- From the White House, President Donald Trump—alongside Health & Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary, & NIH Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya—delivered remarks on Autism research which may link between acetaminophen usage during pregnancy to the condition. 5:30pm- Matt Rooney— Founder of SaveJersey.com, State Director of the America First Policy Institute of New Jersey, & host of The Matt Rooney Show on 1210 WPHT (Saturday's 7pm to 10pm)—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to recap Sunday night's NJ gubernatorial debate between Republican Jack Ciattarelli and Democrat Mikie Sherrill. 5:55pm- Tom Azelby hosts the 6pm Hour of The Rich Zeoli Show!

    Wealth Formula by Buck Joffrey

Something big is happening in Washington right now, and it has the potential to reshape everything you and I do as investors. A few weeks ago, the Trump administration attempted to remove Fed Governor Lisa Cook, only to have an appeals court block the move on legal grounds.  At almost the same time, Stephen Miran—one of Trump's economic advisers—was confirmed by the Senate to the Fed's Board of Governors by a razor-thin margin.  On one side, an attempted subtraction. On the other, a confirmed addition. All of this is happening right before a major policy meeting, and it's not hard to see the writing on the wall. Trump's takeover of the Fed is not a question of if—it's a question of when. Whether it unfolds in a matter of weeks or drags out over the next few months, the direction is set and the outcome is inevitable.  The endgame is to bring interest rates down and, if necessary, use quantitative easing to drive bond yields even lower. That kind of policy would flood the system with liquidity, and the immediate effect would be a booming economy. Asset prices would rip higher—stocks, real estate, gold, Bitcoin—you name it. If you own assets, you'd feel wealthier almost overnight. But of course, there's another side to this coin. A dollar that weakens under the weight of easy money. A gap between the asset-rich and the asset-poor that grows even wider. Rising inequality, rising tensions, and perhaps a long-term cost to the credibility of the U.S. financial system. So is this takeover of the Fed a good thing? That depends entirely on where you sit. If you're a wage earner with no meaningful assets, it's bad news. If you're an investor, it's a reminder that ignoring policy shifts like this is done at your own peril.  The time to prepare is now, not later. Don't wait for rates to drop before acting. History shows that buying assets in a descending rate environment has been one of the most powerful wealth-creation maneuvers in the United States.  Think back to 2008. The Fed responded to the financial crisis with unprecedented rate cuts and waves of quantitative easing. What followed was more than a decade of explosive gains in stocks, real estate, and other assets.  Those who bought while rates were falling built extraordinary wealth. Those who stood on the sidelines missed out. But don't take my word. Listen to noted economist Richard Duncan explain the dynamics of this situation in this week's episode of Wealth Forula Podcast.  Learn more about Richard Duncan: richardduncaneconomics.com

The investigation into the assassination of Charlie Kirk has raised a lot of questions – not just about the alleged shooter, but about the investigation itself. And especially about the person at the head of the bureau tasked with helping to find and capture suspects in acts of violence not just in the Kirk case, but across the country: FBI Director Kash Patel. His performance thus far has been, well, questionable. And he's tussling with Democrats who call him on it. To learn more about the FBI, Kash Patel, and how the Bureau is supposed to work, I spoke to Andrew McCabe, the FBI's former deputy director. And in headlines, the Federal Reserve cut interest rates amid some less-than-stellar employment and inflation numbers, the former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention testified to the Senate about her firing by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.,  and the U.K. rolls out the red carpet for President Trump.Show Notes:Call Congress – 202-224-3121Subscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Tommy & Ben start with Gaza: the UN Human Rights Council's finding that Israel has committed genocide, and Israel's ground operation into Gaza City. They discuss how Marco Rubio signaled that Trump has given up on brokering a peace deal in Gaza, and why the Netanyahu government is telling the press that Trump is lying about his knowledge of the IDF airstrike in Qatar. Also covered: Kash Patel's combative Senate hearing about the rampant dysfunction at the FBI, the global reaction to the murder of Charlie Kirk and the dark conspiracy theories that have emerged around it, the long-term harm to the US-South Korea relationship caused by the ICE raid on a Hyundai plant in Georgia, Nepal's democracy by Discord, Trump's UK state visit amid Jeffrey Epstein fallout and far-right protests, Trump's ultimatums to NATO, and Conor McGregor's aborted bid for the Irish presidency. Then, Tommy speaks to Tom Fletcher, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, about the humanitarian situations in Haiti, Sudan, and Gaza, the devastating effects of the gutting of USAID, and what's giving him hope right now.
