Over four in five (83%) people believe greater regulation is required around the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to protect public safety, according to research commissioned by Engineers Ireland, the national representative body for the engineering profession. In the same survey, which was conducted by Interactions Research using a representative sample of over 1,000 adults, more than two-thirds (66%) expressed concerns about AI's future impact on jobs, but a majority (61%) agreed that AI is beneficial for performing more routine tasks. 20% of respondents said that they currently use AI tools in their jobs, with this group identifying large language models, like Chat GPT, being relied on for content creation. The cohort adopting AI into their daily work routine was less likely to be concerned about the potential of AI replacing jobs and a need for further regulation. Other Technologies Respondents were also surveyed about their attitudes towards other emergent areas of technology. Almost two in three (65%) said that they believe the use of robotics to be useful alternatives to humans in the performance of routine or dangerous work, while just under half (48%) said they were concerned about the potential of robots to negatively impact the jobs market. On the subject of Ireland's role in space exploration, sentiment close to half (42%) said they believed that Ireland should play a larger role here. Furthermore, 35% of respondents supported the future development of a dedicated Irish space agency to conduct research and participate in European space projects,. The results come as Engineers Ireland commences a drive at this year's National Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska, Co. Laois, to show members of the public, educators and career guidance advisors the breadth of the contribution of engineering to society. The representative body will be on site with a number of advanced engineered products and exhibitions to demonstrate the career opportunities associated with engineering and encourage interest and awareness amongst underrepresented groups in the profession. The Engineers Ireland exhibition at the National Ploughing Championships will display an autonomous robot dog, Setanta, which works at construction sites conducting laser scans to identify deviations from construction plans; a robotic arm equipped with AI that can play Xs and Os with humans; and an opportunity for attendees to try on replica space suits and visit space through virtual reality. Commenting on the findings, Director General of Engineers Ireland, Damien Owens, said: "The results of this research show that, while new technologies like AI and robotics carry considerable benefits across many industries, we must ensure that their implementation in the workplace is appropriately safeguarded. "While the benefits of AI are apparent, and it should become part of our work toolsets, there is an onus on both industry and regulators to address the concerns of the public meaningfully." Engineers Ireland's exhibition at the National Ploughing Championships will be open to the public to visit from 17th - 19th September. The representative body also has a number of resources available on its website for teachers, career guidance counsellors, parents, and students as part of its STEPS Programme, which is accessible at www.engineersireland.ie/schools.

This week on iPropertyRadio… On #PropertyRoundup host Carol Tallon chats to Setanta Landers, Partner at Setanta Solicitors. Setanta joins Carol to discuss the “Locals Only” Rule and the Sustainable Rural Housing guidelines established in 2005. This rule prioritises local residents in rural construction projects to protect rural culture and integrity. Its potentially discriminatory nature has been criticised, with the European Union highlighting legal concerns reminiscent of the 2013 'Flemish Decree' case in Belgium. The Court of Justice of the European Union found such rules restrictive, potentially infringing on EU Free Movement principles. While many Irish authorities maintain the rule, efforts to reconcile it with EU Law are ongoing, indicating a complex balance between local preservation and EU standards.Read more: https://setantasolicitors.ie/locals-only-rules-in-irish-planning-law/*Property Roundup is sponsored by Ireland's Property District, your industry communications partner: https://propertydistrict.ie*Produced by Katie Tallon MPRII, with Hear Me Roar Media on sound https://hearmeroarmedia.com Watch/listen back: https://ipropertyradio.com/#ipropertyradio #property #Ireland

In our latest guest special, John B and Vinny are joined by former Scotsport, Setanta and Clyde Superscoreboard presenter, and current Scottish Sun columnist, Jim Delahunt. Jim gives a great insight into his career that saw him start off at the Sunday Standard before joining STV in 1990. He succeeded Jim White as Scotsport presenter in 1998 and was there for eight years before joining Setanta Sports, fronting their highlights show for three years before the channels sudden closure. He then moved to Clyde a year later for five years and explains why the dump button was his most valuable tool at the station. Jim also delves into his passion for Horse Racing and his success as an owner in having ten winners, giving his favourite courses in Scotland and one abroad. We end with the usual slow fire questions where Jim's six a-side team is one player short - and why he'd rather have five players than add Jim White! Prophecy Radio episode #44 discusses Paola Santiago and the River of Tears by Tehlor Kay Mejia, and the hosts even get to interview the author about the third and final book in the series, Paola Santiago and the Sanctuary of Shadows. They also tackle all the latest news in the Rick Riordan universe, including the latest blog post from the author of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:34) Dior Goodjohn's Are You Afraid of the Dark season 3 is airing right now on Nickelodeon! For a moment, Karen forgets how to watch real TV. It looks like Percy Jackson and the Olympians is filming the Capture the Flag scene. Make sure you check out the cover reveal for the Maze of Bones graphic novel. Roseanne A. Brown wants to remind you that she did NOT write Serwa Boateng's Guide to Vampire Hunting under the patronage of an eccentric professor. We discuss Rick's August 6 blog post. There are a lot of books coming out from Rick Riordan Presents! We get an update on the Solangelo book—including possible tour plans and Rick's reaction to the cover. Mark Oshiro's book with the cool mushroom cover is called Into the Light. What's this other book project Rick is working on?? Paola Santiago and the Sanctuary of Shadows is officially out in the world! We're super excited for the Paola Santiago adaptation! Tehlor wrote a really beautiful letter saying goodbye to the series. Abuela has some tips and tricks if you happen to find yourself in possession of an arma del alma. But more importantly…which Paola Santiago character are you? Paola Santiago and the River of Tears by Tehlor Kay Mejia (00:25:10) It's time to talk about the first book in the Paola Santiago series! By the way, the narrator for these books (Frankie Corzo) is REALLY good. How did Kristen feel about reading River of Tears for the first time? We definitely know how to pronounce the Gila River. Paola reminds us a little of Aru Shah, tbh. Science girls for the win! This book really nails the boy/girl middle school dynamic. Paola's mom really doesn't serve much of a role in this book except to cause some friction for the main character. Abuela might not have a huge role, but she's a pretty important character. We included Emma, even though she doesn't feature too prominently in this book. Look, it's been a while since Karen read this one. Give her a break. WE DEFINITELY TALK ABOUT BRUTO. Is Riptide…an arma del alma? Would you like to live in Limbo for your whole life? Which of the monsters did we like most? Put us down as not fans of the mano pachona. Karen scars Kristen with images of the the lechuza. The SPOILER SECTION starts at 00:58:40 La Llorona's castle was pretty amazing. Kristen was personally attacked by Marisa. Okay, we know La Llorona has a reputation, but why is she so MEAN? Abuela is a total badass, and we are HERE for it. There's not too much to say about Los Niños de la Luz…for now. Interview with Tehlor Kay Mejia (01:11:05) Following on the heels of the Paola Santiago and the Sanctuary of Shadows release, we spoke with Tehlor Kay Mejia about the series as a whole. If you've read Paola Santiago, you won't be too surprised by her choice of go-to snacks. Is there an editing critique that she has the most trouble with? Tehlor talks a bit about reconnecting with her culture's folklore and how different families connect to different ones in a variety of ways. When did Tehlor come up with the idea for Paola Santiago? Are any of the characters in these books based on people she knows? How did Tehlor make sure the books weren't too scary for her audience? Which scenes hit the cutting room floor? Are there any monsters she wishes could've been included? And, more importantly, would she ever write more stories in this vein so she could include them? After getting Naomi on her character quiz, we ask what similarities and differences she has with her. Is it TOO personal to ask what kind of nightmares El Cucuy would show someone? Out of all three books, which scene is the MOST Paola Santiago? We find out the answer to one of our favorite questions to ask—who would be Tehlor's godly Greek parent? What's the best book she's read lately? And, of course, we have to ask how it feels now that Paola Santiago is getting its own adaptation! Does Tehlor have any upcoming projects she can talk about? What else is on that author bucket list of hers? Feedback (01:29:53) We get another email from Caoimhe, who tells us about tír na nóg and Setanta (sorry for butchering the pronunciation!!). We're definitely going to do future episodes about more than Greek myths. How did Kristen and Karen first meet? Caoimhe's friend Eimear also did a little drawing for us, and it's so good! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 45, in which we'll celebrate Percy Jackson's birthday and discuss “Percy Jackson and the Bronze Dragon” and “Percy Jackson and the Sword of Hades.” This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. This weeks guest on the Pacey Performance Podcast is Ian Jeffreys. Ian is a Coach Educator and recently appointed Academic Director at Setanta College. Ian is an internationally renowned coach, educator and author. An ex professional rugby player, where he played at the highest level for 15 years, he is regarded as a world authority in the development of speed & agility and conditioning for team sports. His Gamespeed system of sport specific speed and agility development, along with his RAMP warm-up protocols have revolutionised training in these areas and have been adopted by a wide range of coaches and organisations around the world. In this episode of the podcast, Ian dives into why change of direction testing is becoming more and more redundant as we know more about training true agility. He also details why change of direction ability is only one part of the puzzle when it comes to coaching agility. Ian gives some real life, practical examples of how we coach agility in closed and more importantly open scenarios. This weeks talking points - The link between teaching and coaching Why isolated change of direction tests don't give us the full picture Ways to train agility in open and closed environments Using personal playing experience to develop coaching ability The development of gamespeed
Episode five focuses on the first two albums by Into Paradise - Under the Water (1990) and Churchtown (1991). Keith Cullen released Under the Water on Setanta Records and then the band subsequently made the jump to Ensign Records for its major label follow-up, Churchtown before returning once more to Setanta for two further albums. My conversation with Dave Long takes in: playing punk gigs in the Magnet bar with his first band Amuse; forming Backwards Into Paradise and recording various demos in Dublin; signing to Setanta Records; touring Europe with The Godfathers; signing a major record deal with Nigel Grainge's Ensign Records; working with The Sound's Adrian Borland; the writing of music journalist David Cavanagh; playing live with Into Paradise in the UK. We also chat about Moll & Zeis, Dave's latest album with his old friend Shane O'Neill and we ruminate on the creative and artistic compulsion to continue to create new music regardless of its perceived success or popularity.
This was one of my favorite stories as a kid and Im so delighted to bring it to you today! Every child in Ireland must hear this story at some stage, as it marries storytelling with one of our national obsessions- hurling! For those of you who have never encountered it, hurling is like a very fast version of hockey, played in the air, with sticks called hurleys and a very hard and fast ball called a sliotar! It has been around in some form in Ireland for hundreds of years and still causes great rivalry between counties to this day! This charming tale tells of the bravery of a young boy name Setanta who follows his calling against all odds, and comes face to face with something truly terrifying-will he be able to overcome this challenge and gain a place at the table of the king's trusted knights- you'll have to listen to find out! Born Setanta, he earned his most popular name after he accidentally killed the hound of a smith. On that night, the young Setanta became to be known as Cu Chulainn, meaning The hound of Culann, a title that point out to what would be his task for the rest of his life, the protection of Ulster.

This is episode 12 of The Bundle, our regular deep dive in to the media rights market with regular co-host Yannick Ramcke and our guest is Murray Barnett, ex ESPN, World Rugby, F1 and current founder of D2C Sport. If you like the podcasts you'll love the Unofficial Partner newsletter, that goes direct to the inbox of thousands of senior executives across the global sports business every Thursday. To join them, sign up via unofficialpartner.com Here's ten things we talked about:Amazon is beginning to look like just another sports broadcaster. There's fun to be had over-interpreting the basket case that is the French sports rights market. Amazon price structure for Ligue 1 suggests the end of cross-subsidization, which could be good news for rights owners; increases potential for future rights acquisitions. The Bundle price inflation: ESPN just announced their second rise in 2021. Does ESPN have an international vision, or it just an American thing? I live in the UK and never think of subscribing and I wonder if that's significant. Does corporate memory shape strategy? ESPN got burnt from their experience with Premier League a decade or more ago, picking up scraps from Setanta and then losing them to BT Sport four years later. Does that experience still shape the company's strategy, even though the people at the top are different? The reason Big Tech and football don't fit seems too obvious: Football is a market by market thing whereas tech platforms are about breaking down that structure, like music, films and shopping. Note, Netflix is going after gaming not sport.Amazon's NFL deal is an enormously expensive anomaly. DAZN x YouTube x Women's Football: Globalization driving increased sponsorship opportunity; Limited downside, unlimited upside; UEFA's recent deal for the Women's Champions League could be the most significant of the year. When does a rights holder become a betting company? DraftKings new MLB deal includes live games alongside odds. The US discovers betting (streaming) rights, already a constant (and significant source of revenue) in European sports.Riches in the Niches, or is the Long Tail just too much like hard work?

This latest episode sees me joined by BT Sport commentator Rory Hamilton. On this show we discuss Rory's career from Scotsport to Setanta to BT Sport. We unlift the lid on what it really is like to work with Darrell Currie, Chris Sutton, Michael Stewart and Stephen Craigan too. We also delve into Rory's love of snow sports when he is not working in the commentary box. We review the last 16 of the Scottish Cup: Are Celtic still the team to beat? Did 4-1 flatter Rangers at Hamilton? Did we see Livingston's defeat to Inverness coming? We assess the quarter final draw too. We also preview the midweek matches in the Scottish Premiership including a tough trip for Aberdeen to Hamilton and whether Rangers can get back to being on Celtic's coat tails as they travel to a resurgent Kilmarnock. Produced in association with Toby Johnson Music and Rory Hope Music.

Hey, folks! There was no episode of Random Old Records in October, truly sorry for the delay! I needed a little extra time to craft the perfect selection of tracks for this one. Episode #56 is a special 5-10-15-20 edition, which opens up the memory banks and goes back in time to the years 2011, 2006, 2001, and 1996. Looking back, none of these years were particularly "great" for music, but each one definitely has their fair share of jams!In 2011, Thee Oh Sees kicked off a remarkable run of albums with the acid-folk creep of Castlemania. Meanwhile, The Beets delivered their excellent final LP Let The Poison Out before leader Juan Wauters started a solo career. A decade prior, Jersey post-hardcore rockers Rye Coalition unleashed THEIR final LP Curses, which had been in major label limbo for two years prior to release, and further south, Texas punks the Marked Men released their classic Fix My Brain.2001 was the prime year for emo and post-hardcore, at least in my circle of friends at the time. Bands like Hey Mercedes and Hot Water Music were crafting anthems, while the remnants of Cap'n Jazz were crafting avant-fusion rock with Owls. Finally, the hour wraps up with a bunch of Britpop and indie rock from 1996, when both genres were in slight decline but still pumping out plenty of jams. In between the tracks are some vintage news stories to ramp up the nostalgia and complete the time capsule. Hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I had putting it together. As always, thanks for listening, and stay tuned for episode #57 next month!Random Old Records Podcast #56Released 11/07/16DOWNLOAD HERE1. Check out his email:I've a nomination for AG of the week from the Kenmare Half. His name is Liam Dolan, a 26yr old from the Setanta triathlon club in Dundalk. There's a great bunch of lads up there who all listen to the show and I know Liam is a big fan as he's always slagging me about getting mentioned. He has only been in triathlon 2 years but has already gained a bit of a reputation for his awesome bike splits. Indeed I missed a trick in not nominating him earlier this year when he finished 10th at Half IM UK where he was the first non-pro finisher. He finished 4th in Kenmare despite cracking the headset area of his frame after hitting a pothole and noticing that the steering was "a little bit funny". His real strength though is being able to control himself on the bike so that he can run really well off it - he had the fastest run in Kenmare with a 1:18 on a really hilly course, managing to outrun (just) some guys who can run 31min 10k oly splits (versus his normal 36-37min runs). On the downside - he has been known to remark that Ironman is for "30 somethings who are going through a mid life crisis" - though I know he secretly wants to do one soonSo that's my case for Liam! Please keep up the great work with the show! Thanks,JackThis weeks discussionWith the amount of athletes trying to compete in an Ironman should the cut off time be reduced?
