This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, guest Donna Miller shares with Karen her advice to budding entrepreneurs. Donna Miller, the president and founder of C3Workplace, is a business and community leader, speaker, educator, and entrepreneur who is passionate about seeing small businesses thrive. #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. About the Episode: The COVID-19 pandemic has made life more difficult in many ways, and it can make it even more confusing for a budding entrepreneur to know where to begin. Donna recommends that all entrepreneurs start with a business plan. She also recommends that, from day one, entrepreneurs shouldn’t charge as if they are the only ones doing the work, but rather as though they were paying someone else to do the work for them. Every decision the entrepreneur makes should be data-driven, but it should also be filled with intuition. Yes, the two can go hand-in-hand! It’s also important that entrepreneurs surround themselves with a group of people who will support them – this doesn’t mean telling them what they want to hear but rather what they need to hear. Don’t let Covid hold you back from achieving your dreams. Hear more from Donna by listening to this episode! Plants produce a fantastic array of metabolites to defend themselves, communicate with other organisms in their environment, and attract pollinators and seed dispersers; sometimes, these metabolites can also impact human health. Our guest this week is Dr. Nadja Cech, an expert in the field of mass spectrometry and natural products. She explains how she uses this exciting tool of science to study the medical potential of herbs like kratom, goldenseal, and more. We also discuss the importance of mentorship and support of diversity and inclusion in science. *** ABOUT OUR GUEST Dr. Nadja B. Cech is Patricia A. Sullivan Distinguished Professor of Chemistry at The University of North Carolina Greensboro. She applies her expertise in mass spectrometry to solve challenging problems in natural products research. Work in the Cech group focuses on the development of strategies to understand synergy and complexity in the biological activity of botanical and fungal natural products, with a particular emphasis on the effective utilization of mass spectrometry metabolomics. Dr. Cech’s interests in this area stem from a long history of involvement in alternative medicine; her family owns and operates one of the largest medicinal herb seed companies in the country, and she spent her childhood working on their farm. Dr. Cech supervises a research group of sixteen students and postdoctoral research associates. She is the recipient of the 2011 Jack L. Beal Award for Best Paper in the Journal of Natural Products by a Young Investigator, and the 2017 Thomas Norwood Award for Undergraduate Research Mentorship. Dr. Cech is a member of the research teams for two major research initiatives funded by the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, the Center of Excellence for Natural Product Drug Interaction and the Center for High Content Functional Annotation of Natural Products. *** ABOUT FOODIE PHARMACOLOGY Now in Season 2 with more than seventy episodes! This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, Karen discusses how you can prepare for a post-COVID-19 world. Advancements with the COVID-19 vaccine are being made. While we might have a few more months of restrictions ahead, now is the time to be planning for the future! #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. About the Episode: We’re starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Even though the COVID-19 pandemic is hopefully nearing its end, we most likely have a few more months of pandemic restrictions ahead of us. Instead of getting depressed about the next upcoming month and wishing it were all over already, let’s instead look at this time as our cocoon where we can be planning for the future. When the pandemic is over, we will emerge like butterflies from our cocoons. Be Intentional Where do we start when planning for the future? Start by being intentional and planning for the future. Since we have fewer in-person events and fewer places to go, we can take advantage of that extra time and plan for the future of our business. Focus on LinkedIn Relationships Next, focus on your LinkedIn connections. Are the people you’re connected with the people you would be connected with if 2021 were your millionaire year? Connect with the right people and nourish those relationships. Think Big Stop thinking small. Instead of selling multiple low-price products and services, brainstorm and find a way to provide a high-ticket offer. People find more value in high-priced products and services. You also don’t have to sell as much when your price is higher. The end is nearing! Let’s take advantage of these last month and prepare our businesses for a non-COVID-19 world. This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, guest Krista Martin and Karen discuss why you should have courage and how you can make sales fun. Krista Martin is the president and founder of Make Your Mark. She teaches coaches how to attract more clients, make more money, and create a bigger impact. She's also the founder of the Six Figure Impact Academy and takes a stand for helping her clients build six-figure businesses. #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. About the Episode: Does the word sales sound icky to you? Does it make you squirm and think, “I could never enjoy that”? Perhaps the reason a lot of people feel this way about sales is that they’re looking at it from the wrong perspective. The goal of sales is to answer someone’s problems and fulfill their needs. How do you do this? Start by serving them. Learn who they are, what they need, and cater to those needs. Even if someone chooses to not buy from you immediately, they’re sure to remember how you tried to help them instead of “selling” to them. It’s no secret, though, that you have to have confidence when making sales. As Krista Marin likes to remind herself, lend a cup of courage. Believe in yourself, invest in yourself, and soon you’ll have the courage you need to make sales fun! Learn more about how to invest in your confidence in this episode with Krista Martin! This week, we take a closer look at the plants and agricultural traditions of Oman, situated on the Arabian Peninsula. Our guest is Dr. Darach Lupton—an ethnobotanist who manages the collection and documentation of plants and seeds from across Oman in his role at the Oman Botanic Garden! He gives us a sneak peek behind the scenes of this incredible garden, which uniquely showcases native plants of the region in a variety of specialized habitats and biomes. ABOUT OUR GUEST In the mid-1990s, Darach Lupton studied horticulture at the National Botanic Gardens of Ireland in Dublin; on completing studies there he applied to read Botany at Trinity College Dublin, where he spent 4 wonderful years; not yet satisfied he then embarked on postgraduate research. On completing his PhD, Dr. Lupton then returned to the National Botanic Gardens of Ireland where he spent 3 fun years working on various elements of the Irish flora – red listing; rare plant genetics; rare plant surveying; documenting crop wild relatives in Ireland; developing ex-situ collections, and the development of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Jordan. In 2010 he answered a job advert for a botanist position at the emerging Oman Botanic Garden; he was offered the job and a few months later arrived with his wife and children in Muscat, Oman – diving straight into a wildly different culture, landscape, flora and of course climate – a pale Irish man in the hot desert is not a natural fit. His career has brought him to many wonderful parts of the world – Africa, Central and South America and the Middle East; he has met countless wonderful people along the way. He is deeply passionate about plant conservation, and the promotion of botanic gardens as centers of conservation and learning. *** ABOUT FOODIE PHARMACOLOGY Now in Season 2 with more than seventy episodes! Join Dr. Quave as she chats with Dr. Tinde van Andel, an ethnobotanist that studies the traditional uses of crops and medicinal plants from Africa to South America. She shares the incredible story of how enslaved African women hid special rice varieties and other crop seeds in their hair braids in their escape from plantations to the forest, where thriving Maroon communities were established and persist today in Suriname. Prof. van Andel explains how her team and collaborators used interdisciplinary tools from the examination of historic records, herbarium samples, ethnobotanical interviews and genomics approaches to unravel this fascinating history of this important African crop. *** ABOUT OUR GUEST Professor Tinde van Andel (1967) is a Dutch ethnobotanist, working for Naturalis Biodiversity Center in the Netherlands and affiliated to Wageningen and Leiden University. Her research includes wild plants used for food and medicine, traditional rice cultivation in the Guianas, and historical collections of useful plants buried in treasure rooms of herbaria and libraries. Listening to the stories behind useful plants helps her to discover people’s unwritten history. By documenting traditional knowledge on wild food plants and local crop landraces she tries to understand how people have survived on hunter-gathering and self-sufficient agriculture in the past centuries. *** LINKS TO MORE RESOURCES Information on Dr. van Andel and links to her publications: https://www.naturalis.nl/en/tinde-van-andel https://scholar.google.nl/citations?user=wtp_JswAAAAJ&hl=nl&authuser=1 Information on the Maroons: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maroons Video showing how the Maroon ancestors hid rice grains in their hair: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4H1IbY6PGIk *** ABOUT FOODIE PHARMACOLOGY Now in Season 2 with more than sixty episodes! This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, Karen discusses simplifying the tasks in your business. It’s easy to get caught up in the routine of performing certain tasks just because they’re on the list of things to do. Are those things actually benefiting you or your business, though? #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. About the Episode: The COVID-19 pandemic has been a crazy time for everyone. It has also given a lot of us more time on our hands. Instead of going to network meetings and going on lunch dates, we’re stuck at home. Thankfully, we can use this extra time to reevaluate our business, remove what we don’t enjoy, and start doing more of what we love. First, ask yourself the question, “What do I really enjoy doing?” Don’t ask what you’re good at or skilled at. Ask what you enjoy. Then start focusing on what you love doing! Second, take a look at your calendar. What events on your calendar make you cringe? What can’t you stand doing? Start cutting those events out! If you hate them and they’re not beneficial, don’t do them. Lastly, lean into your pricing. Instead of selling multiple low-cost items and services, dream big and ask yourself, “How could I make this more valuable and sell it for a higher price?” By raising your prices, you can make more money while spending less time and effort. This takes guts, but, in the end, it’s worth it. It’s easy to clutter our business with tasks that don’t really bring any value. Start looking at your company, cut out the things that don’t matter, and start living with more freedom! This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, Karen reflects on the life of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Ruth Bader Ginsburg showed up and made a change in the world. Just like her, we have the ability to make a change, and RBG left us amazing examples of how to stand up against the crowd. #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. About the Episode: On September 18, 2020, the world lost Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She was a champion for women’s rights, and there are so many great things that we can learn from her. RBG didn’t accept unfair treatment just because that was how things were. When she had the ability, she showed up and did the good that she could do. And when she did something that went again the majority, she did it with confidence. That warrants the question… are there areas in our lives where we should be showing up and making a difference? It’s easy to get stuck in the mundane way of doing things and to follow the crowd. But with more visibility comes greater responsibility. It’s time to start following RBG’s example and ask ourselves, “Where can I make a difference?” When it’s your turn to step up and make a change, do it with confidence. Trust your gut, trust your expertise, and trust yourself. When you champion for change, it’s true that you’ll most likely face opposition. But just like the advice RGB followed, it helps to be a little deaf. When someone says something offensive, it’s best to tune them out, stop yourself from getting angry, and work on the backend to make a change. You can make a change. You just have to show up. This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, Karen shares the 5 steps to make success inevitable. Success doesn’t happen by accident. It takes careful, well thought-out planning. These 5 steps set you on the right path to achieving success. #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. About the Episode: Are you ready to achieve your goals and succeed? Of course you are! Start by taking a look at your business, and follow these 5 simple steps to make success inevitable: 1) Know Your Monthly Number To start off, decide how much money you need to make each month. This gives you a set goal to achieve. Determine your yearly sales goal, then divide that by twelve. Don’t forget to DREAM BIG! 2) Decide what Goes into Reaching that Number Next, determine what products and services go into reaching that monthly number, then think about the number of products and services you need to sell. Maybe you need five more students to join your yoga class each month. Perhaps you need to sell 10 more books. Knowing the number of products and services you need to sell makes the sales goal attainable. 3) Do Some Historical Research Take a look at your past months of business. Which month was your best month? Why? How many sales calls did you make? Find out what you did that month that made it so successful and use that as a guide to making your future months as successful – if not more successful! 4) Research Your LinkedIn Connections Now take a look at your LinkedIn connections from last month. How many people did you connect with? How many of those connections turned into meaningful phone calls? Determine what you did right that resulted in more phone calls and how many more connections you should make each month. 5) Make Success Inevitable By now, you have everything you need to make success inevitable. With what you discovered, now you can tweak your plan going forward. Maybe you need to sell more products. Maybe you need to connect with more people. Whatever the case is, you now have a goal to achieve! Success doesn’t happen by accident. Follow these five steps to make success inevitable! How many of you love hot sauce? What makes chili peppers so alluring to our palates? Well, it has a lot to do with pain and how our bodies react to pain stimulants like capsaicin. Join Dr. Quave as she chats with Dr. David Julius – an expert on pain receptors – as they discuss how humans sense certain spices, and what this means in the search for new non-opiate pain therapies. ABOUT OUR GUEST Dr. David Julius is the Morris Herzstein Chair in Molecular Biology and Medicine, and Professor and Chair of Physiology at the University of California, San Francisco. He has dedicated his career to studying how pain receptors are activated. He was awarded a $3-million Breakthrough Prize in life sciences last year for “discovering molecules, cells, and mechanisms underlying pain sensation.” Dr. Julius’ lab is interested in understanding how signals are received and transmitted by the nervous system. They have exploited the properties of natural products to discover a family of thermo- and chemo-sensitive ion channels that enable sensory nerve fibers to detect hot or cold temperatures, or chemical irritants. With the aid of genetic, electrophysiological, and behavioral methods, they have determined how these ion channels contribute to pain sensation, and how channel activity is modulated in response to tumor growth, infection, or other forms of injury that produce inflammation and pain hypersensitivity. This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, guest Lana Shlafer and Karen discuss manifesting your dreams. Lana Shlafer is a mindset coach, law of attraction expert, and author of the best-selling book Manifest That Miracle. Over the past decade, she has empowered thousands of clients and students to manifest what seems out of reach, including buying their dream home, healing from a chronic illness, and meeting their ideal partner. #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. About the Episode: What do you find fulfilling? What brings you joy? Whatever that is, go after it! You have the ability to achieve what you want to achieve. It just takes consistency. Having goals and plans are good things. All too often, however, we get scared to divert from the path we laid out for ourselves. Along the way we often discover something we enjoy more or find out a better way to do something. That’s okay! If fact, it’s a good thing. We just need the confidence to divert. In this episode, I interview Lana Shlafer, and Lana says you need to have a relationship with yourself instead of berating yourself. If you’re following a lift path that you have no interest in and doesn’t grow you as a person, what’s the point? In this episode, Lana and I discuss what you need to do (which includes changing your mindset) to make the journey you’re on miraculous. This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, Karen explains why there is a difference in failing and calling yourself a failure. Failure is part of success, and it’s time to embrace failure. There’s a difference in failing and being a failure. Learn how to fail correctly so you can achieve success. #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. About the Episode: You can’t have success without failure. In order to succeed, you have to fail and learn from those failures. It’s reported that Walt Disney was fired from his newspaper job for lacking creativity. Not only is that shocking, it’s inspiring! You Will Fail It’s almost guaranteed you will fail. Entrepreneurs tend to be scared that their products and services will fail when they launch. Guest what… they probably will, and that’s okay! Through the failure, you’ll realize what you can and should do differently and better. Tweak Your Connections One factor in succeeding is connecting with the right people. And as you continue to connect with others, you might be meeting really interesting people, but you might find there’s a disconnect between your connections and closing a sale. Tweak who it is you’re connecting with and your method of connecting with them until you find the sweet spot. You Have to Plan In the path to success, you have to have a plan. A plan is important, because, when you fail, you need to know what to change. If you have no plan, it’s hard, or potentially impossible, to know what went wrong. With a plan, you can pinpoint what went wrong and make adjustments. Failure is part of life. It’s also critical to succeeding. Learn to start embracing failure so you can find success. This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, guest Nicola Wilkes and Karen discuss the importance of mindset. Nicola Wilkes is the owner of Seriously Stylish Business. As a high-performance coach, she specializes in guiding design-related businesses to reach their highest levels of success. She’s also a specialist in brand management, promotion, and fast growth. #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. About the Episode: Mindset is important. It could literally make the difference in whether your business succeeds or fails. However, most entrepreneurs don’t focus on their mindset. Let’s say we have two business owners. Both do great work. One owner doesn’t view her brand as being unique or special. She believes that the work she does is equal to her competitors’, potentially sub-par to some. This attitude reflects in her marketing, and her audience sees it. The other owner understands the importance of mindset. She knows that her business is unique, and she believes that the work she delivers isn’t just equal but better than that of her competitors. Her attitude also reflects in her marketing, and her audience views her company as the better business to work with. Mindset plays a vital role in every facet of your business. This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, Karen shares how to improve your search results. People are searching for you, even if you don’t realize it. It’s important that you take control of the content that shows up when someone Googles your name. #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. About the Episode: It’s no secret that we Google everything. We Google businesses, restaurant and product reviews, celebrities… the list goes on. If everyone does their research before making a purchase, wouldn’t you expect people to Google your name before doing business with you? Whether you know it or not, people are Googling you. When they search for you, you don’t want your high school prom photos to pop up. You want only what’s going to help you and your business to pop up. And guess what… it’s possible to control what shows up! You need to drown out the less important information by putting more pertinent information out there. How to Improve Your Search Results Build Your LinkedIn Profile. The most effective way to improve what shows up when people Google your name is to… you guessed it… build a great LinkedIn profile. On LinkedIn, you can control exactly what you want others to know about you. The stronger your profile, the better your search results will be. Gain More Publicity (#1). You read that right… gain more publicity. You might be thinking, “Of course I want to gain more publicity, but how do I do that?” Glad you asked! For starters, check out helpareporter.com. On HARO, you have the ability to show up as the expert and write articles that pertain to your industry. Gain More Publicity (#2). What magazines and articles do your audience read? Find the articles that pertain to your industry, see who wrote them, and connect with those authors on LinkedIn. Then share, share, and share their content until you have the opportunity to write for them or be featured in one of their articles. Podcasting and Blogging. The more you podcast and blog, the more content you’ll have out there. And the more content you have out there, the better the results that show up on Google will be. But don’t stop at writing and podcasting your own content. Connect with other podcasters and bloggers and try to gain visibility on their shows and articles. (Hint: connect with these people the same way you connect with reporters in #3 by connecting with them on LinkedIn.) Improving your search results may seem like a daunting task, but if you follow these simple steps, your Google results will improve in no time. This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, guest Katrina Sawa and Karen discuss why raising prices is the most important thing a business can do to make more money. Katrina Sawa is known as The Jumpstart Your Biz Coach because she literally kicks her clients and their businesses into high gear. Katrina is an international best-selling author founded the Int’l Entrepreneur Network to serve tens of thousands of businesses around the world. #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. About the Episode: We’re in the middle of a pandemic, and many people are wondering, “What can I do to make more money?” The answer: raise your prices. That might seem crazy since a lot of people are struggling right now, but trust me… it works! Let’s say, in order to reach your sales goal for the week, you have to pitch 20 different people. Not all 20 will buy, but of the ones who do, they’ll have helped you meet your sales goal. Now, if you were to double your prices, fewer people might buy, but you’ll still make the same amount by the end of the week because you made double the money per sale. If doubling your prices runs away half your client base, it’s okay. You can afford to lose half your clients since that means doing half the work while making the same amount of money. Raising prices takes guts. It’s not an easy mindset shift. But once you do raise your prices, you’ll reap the benefits. Listen more about how and why you should raise your prices by listening to Episode 132 with guest Kristina Sawa. This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, Karen discusses how to take advantage of the 3 new and powerful LinkedIn tools. LinkedIn is an ever-improving platform, and you should improve with it. Knowing what changes to make to your profile when updates come out can be challenging. Karen details what changes you should be making and how to make them. #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. About the Episode: LinkedIn regularly rolls out changes that make the platform a better place to build human-to-human connections. When new changes come out, it’s important that you take advantage of those features. Here are 3 new and powerful changes LinkedIn has made this year. 3 New and Powerful LinkedIn Tools Correctly pronouncing someone’s name instantly builds a connection, especially if they have a difficult name to pronounce. LinkedIn has very recently given us the ability to add a voice recording of our names to our profiles. Next time, before you meet with someone over the phone or in person, take a look at their profile and listen to their name’s pronunciation. It’s a powerful tool for connecting with others. And don’t forget to return the favor and add a recording of your name to your profile. LinkedIn recently raised the limit of characters allowed in the About and Headline sections. In the About section, use every character that you can. It explains who you are, and the more information and keywords you provide, the higher you’ll pull up in LinkedIn searches. In the Headline, you now have more room to add those extra words you might not have been able to fit before. LinkedIn has removed Media from the About section and turned it into its own Featured section. The amazing thing about the Featured section is that it’s basically a call-to-action section. You can add images with links that go directly to the webpage you’re promoting. You can add multiple images and links in the Featured section, but it’s best to keep it down to two. Bruce discusses his work with the Amazon Conservation Team and shares what life is like in the Amazon! Join Dr. Quave as she chats with award-winning author Mark Kurlansky to take a closer look at one of nature's most remarkable and inspiring animals: salmon! Salmon have long history of being sought out by both commercial and sports fishing all over the Northern Atlantic and Pacific. Incredibly, these fish can undergo major changes in their body to survive both in fresh and salt water during different phases of their life cycle! Not many fish can do that! Amazingly, they travel thousands of miles in the ocean to return to the exact river and location of their birth. Yet, salmon are threatened by everything from deforestation, to climate change, to dams. If the salmon can survive, then just maybe there is hope for the planet. ABOUT OUR GUEST Mark Kurlansky holds degrees in both theater and journalism. In addition to writing articles appearing in a wide variety of leading newspapers and magazines, he is also the award-winning author of 33 books across the genres of fiction, nonfiction and children’s books. This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, Karen shares how to market to potential partners on LinkedIn. Ever wished you can get in front of more audiences? I bet. Not sure how to make it happen? Karen shares how you can utilize LinkedIn to build joint ventures. #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. About the Episode: Making pitch after pitch after pitch on LinkedIn can be profitable if done correctly, but it’s tiring. What if there were a way that you can get in front of much larger audiences without having to constantly make pitches? There is, and it’s possible through joint ventures. How to Utilize Joint Ventures on LinkedIn Partnering with others on LinkedIn who serve similar audiences as you is a great, effective way to quickly get in front of larger audiences. Knowing where to start when searching for partners can be challenging. Here are three ways to get started building those relationships: Start by digging into your existing network. Chances are that you’re already connected with people on LinkedIn who serve similar audiences as yours. Find them, reach out to them, and tell them that you’d like to collaborate with them on how you can serve each other’s audiences. Connect strategically with possible referral partners. For example, let’s say you’re part of a virtual summit. Reach out to some of the other speakers, mention that you were both part of the summit, and bam – instant connection. Think about other networks. Let’s say you’re part of a Facebook group and you really love what they’re doing. Find who the admin of the group are, search for them on LinkedIn, tell them you love their work and that you think there could be a great partner relationship. Building joint venture relationships instantly places you in front of more audiences. Listen to this episode and learn more about how you can build collaborative relationships. This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, guest Christine Gritmon and Karen discuss how small businesses need to get creative with online marketing during the COVID-19 pandemic. Christine Gritmon, the owner of Christine Gritmon, Inc., teaches growth-minded small business owners how to tell their brand story online in efficient, effective ways that value their time and money. #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. About the Episode: The COVID-19 pandemic has hit many small businesses hard. While unable to sell their products and services, many businesses stopped marketing altogether. But as Christine says, “If it’s time to eat, it’s time to market.” Knowing how to utilize online marketing, especially during a pandemic, can be challenging. That’s why creativity is necessary. The beauty in online marketing is that it allows you to reach a wider audience than traditional marketing allows. It also allows you to stay in front of others, even when they can’t visit your business in person. And when they are finally able to visit in person again, they’ll remember you over your competition because you didn’t let them forget you. One thing to keep in mind while marketing online is you need to leverage the human connection. People don’t want to be sold to. So instead of asking them to buy from you, tell them more about what you’re selling. Provide value, show them behind the scenes, and make a human connection. Listen to this episode to hear how other businesses have gotten creative during the pandemic. This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, Karen shares how to make your relationship-based marketing efforts effective. Building relationships is how you land big-ticket clients, but sometimes people aren’t ready to move forward after you first meet them. Relationship-marketing is the most effective way to stay in front of them so you’re there when they’re ready to move forward. #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. About the Episode: Even pitched someone who wants to do business with you but it’s just not the right time for them to move forward? Things happen, and life gets in the way. The value in LinkedIn and relationship-based marketing is that you are able to genuinely stay in touch with that person, and you’ll be around when they’re ready to move forward. Best Relationship-Marketing Methods You might be wondering, “How do I do this?” The best place to start is on LinkedIn. After you first meet them, follow up with them occasionally. Be genuine, don’t pitch them, and ask questions about themselves. Maybe there was a program they’d been working on. Ask them how that’s going. Maybe there were some life changes happening. See how they’re doing. Another way to stay in touch is to share their posts. By sharing their posts, you’re helping them gain more visibility. That’s always a good thing. You can also find them a referral. Maybe the person you’re building a relationship with is a yoga instructor. If you have a friend who’s into yoga, refer them. In everything you do, you want to provide value. Stay in touch, be genuine, provide value, and when they’re ready to move forward, you’ll be in the right position to do business with them. This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, Karen shares how to accumulate LinkedIn Recommendations. LinkedIn Recommendations show the world who you are and why they can trust you. The more Recommendations you have, the better. Karen shares how to accumulate Recommendations. #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. About the Episode: Most likely, you already have testimonials on your website. Testimonials are an important tool to show others that they can trust you and your business, but what if there were an even more effective way to utilize those testimonials? Enter LinkedIn Recommendations. When reading testimonials on a website, there’s no way to know if those testimonials are genuine or if they came from that person’s family and friends. LinkedIn Recommendations, however, are written by LinkedIn users, so you know who is writing the Recommendation. Another benefit is that once someone reads a Recommendation, they can then click through to the profile of the person who left the Recommendation and ask additional questions about the person they’re looking to work with. How to Accumulate LinkedIn Recommendations You might be wondering, “How do I get Recommendations?” The most effective way is to give genuine Recommendations strategically. Think about who it is that might write a Recommendation for you if you write a Recommendation for them. Another way to get Recommendations is to ask for them. If someone is complementing your work, try asking, “Would you mind popping that in a LinkedIn Recommendation?” More often than not, they’ll do it. It’s also okay to cold ask. Start giving LinkedIn Recommendations, accumulate them for yourself, and watch your business opportunities skyrocket. This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, Karen discusses having alternate streams of income with Jennifer Maruca. Jennifer Maruca Platinum leader with dōTERRA Essential Oils. Karen and Jennifer share their experience with dōTERRA and how it may be an opportunity for you too. #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. About the Episode: The old model is shifting. Instead of going to college, working the same job until they’re sixty years old, and retiring, many people are now breaking the mold. They are doing what they love, on their schedule and creating freedom. Sound like something you’d like to do too? Me too. Which is why I explored dōTERRA, not just in my lifestyle, but into my business. As an entrepreneur, I loved the idea of an additional revenue stream. This episode is about that story! dōTERRA Essential Oils Whether you use essential oils or not, no one can deny the fact that more and more people are looking for natural and holistic ways to stay healthy and/take care of themselves, their families and the environment around them. dōTERRA has worked with over 100 different organizations to do research and implement essential oils into their facilities, including universities, hospitals, VA medical centers, hospices and care centers, and more. And, as a leader in the essential oil industry, dōTERRA invests in research and testing to remain at the forefront of essential oil science. “dōTERRA’s mission hinges on discovering and developing the world’s most potent and effective essential oils,” said Dr. David Hill, dōTERRA Founding Executive, Scientific and Healthcare Initiatives. “These studies are a demonstration of our leadership in essential oil scientific advances, as well as our commitment to ensuring safe and powerful outcomes for families and individuals using dōTERRA essential oils.” dōTERRA’s Medical Advisory Board is composed of board certified physicians from around the world who are leaders in integrative healthcare. Their experience with essential oil usage in their various specialties is a valuable contribution to dōTERRA’s mission of educating individuals on the value of essential oils as an alternative method of care and wellness. Why I Chose dōTERRA If I’m going to sell a product, I want it to be a product I love… and I love essential oils. But not all essential oil companies choose to enforce high testing standards for their oils. In fact, many companies skip important steps in the testing process in order to save money or time. Unfortunately, when proper testing measures are not taken, it’s impossible to ensure that an essential oil is truly “pure.” To ensure that each bottle of essential oil is pure and free from contaminants or synthetic fillers, dōTERRA created the CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® protocol. The CPTG process includes a rigorous examination of every batch of oil, along with third-party testing to guarantee transparency. Join My Team I’ve created a program for people wanting to build a dōTERRA essential oil business. When you join my team we will teach you proven systems to jump start your success. This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, Karen shares how to grow your network. Virtual networking has never been more important. To grow and cultivate your network, start by taking a look at your first-, second-, and third-degree connections on LinkedIn. #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. About the Episode: Have you ever heard the phrase “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know”? I’m sure you have. And there’s a lot of truth to that saying. As we’re all navigating this unprecedented time in our lives, virtual networking has become more important than ever. In-person networking still has its value, but while we’re under shelter-in-place orders, now is the time to take full advantage of virtual networking opportunities. And that starts by growing and cultivating your connections. LinkedIn’s First-, Second-, and Third-Degree Connections As you’ve most likely noticed, LinkedIn has three different degrees of connections. Ever wondered what the degrees mean? A first-degree connection is someone you’re directly connected with on LinkedIn. A second-degree connection is someone you’re not connected with, but you have mutual connections. Lastly, third-degree connections are the connections of your second-degree connections. Cultivating Your Connections The first place to start when virtual networking is to look at who you know – your first-degree connections! Find the people you’re connected with that you meant to follow up with but never did. Then start a warm, heart-felt conversation with them. Remember, this isn’t a sales pitch! Growing Your Network The next step in growing your network is to take a look at your second-degree connections. How do you know these people? Maybe you’re part of the same in-person network. Maybe you know them from high school or college. Perhaps you’re even both members of the same business group on Facebook. Find the people you can relate with and start connecting with them. Keep in mind, you don’t want to connect with just anyone and everyone. Make your connections targeted. I want to see you succeed. As we’re all weathering this COVID-19 pandemic together, virtual networking is the tool that will help you grow your business in stressful times. We’re learning a new way of interacting with others, our routines have been interrupted, and some of us have lost our jobs. Now is the time to be creative and reimagine who we are – and that takes courage. Being Creative Takes Courage Creativity takes courage. This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, Karen shares how to use your birthday as a way to build meaningful relationships. Relationship-based marketing is more valuable than sales-based marketing, and your birthday provides you a valuable opportunity to grow relationships. #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. About the Episode: Many people on LinkedIn don’t understand why they should add their birthday to their profile. After all, LinkedIn is for business, right? But don’t forget, you should be focusing on relationship-based marketing, not sales-based. And birthdays are the perfect opportunities to build relationships. LinkedIn and Your Birthday If you include your birthday on your LinkedIn profile, LinkedIn will notify your connections when it’s your birthday. And that’s cool! It’s nice to receive birthday wishes. But the real value is in the opportunities to build meaningful relationships. The Fortune is in the Follow-Up How do you build meaningful relationships on your birthday? The fortune in the follow-up. Because LinkedIn birthday messages are all private, start a personal conversation with the people who wished you a happy birthday. Don’t just say, “Thanks,” or send a thumbs up and end the conversation. Have a meaningful conversation like, “Hey, remember when we…” or “I heard you’ve been doing…” or even “It’s been a while since we’ve met up.” As they reply back, don’t let the conversation end. Keep genuinely communicating until you’re able to get on the phone with them. Be Intentional Keep in mind, however, that you don’t want to have these intentional conversations with just anybody. Take your time to look over their profiles. Are they someone you’d want to do business with? Would you be able to mutually help each other? If so, go for it! If not, just be grateful and thank them for their birthday wishes. You don’t want to burn yourself out building relationships that won’t go anywhere. Keep this in mind, and as your next birthday comes around, try using this birthday technique. You’ll be amazed at the business that’ll roll in. This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, Karen interviews Amanda Berlin and discusses the power of personal relations. Amanda Berlin helps entrepreneurs step into their presence, create a story that inspires others, and spread their message in the media. She’s also the host of The Empowered Publicity Podcast. #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. About the Episode: There’s tremendous value in having great public relations (PR) and growing your following. Amanda Berlin shares with us in this episode why it’s so important and how you can make it happen. Telling Your Own Story You’re the one in control of your story, so you should be the one telling it. You, a small business owner, should be showing the world who you are and what you do in your own voice. As you share this authenticity with others, your platform and following will grow. How to Grow Your Platform Growing your platform and following might seem like an overwhelming task. In reality, it’s quite simple. You just need to employ the grassroots techniques Amanda teaches. Start by making genuine, personal connections. When someone shares an article that connects with you, reach out to them and tell them why you liked it, then share it with your audience. It builds their visibility while helping you make a genuine connection. Reach out to someone you want to get to know and extend the offer for them to join your podcast. Try to join other podcasts. Make connections at conferences. The list goes on. By building better PR and growing your following, you’re positioning your business for success.
