SHORT 'Finding Purpose in Unlikely Places' Ned Wills CEO Laureus Sport for Good Foundation

In this SHORT episode of Purposely, we're back with NedWills, on an unexpected place his community engagement journey began, and what it taught him about ethics, incentives, and connecting elite sport to grassroots impact. Ned's eyes were first opened to community work through anunlikely route: working in the oil industry in the early 2000s. Large infrastructure projects in unstable parts of the world meant companies had to invest heavily before seeing any return, which made getting community relationsright a genuine commercial priority, not just good PR. That put Ned at an unusual intersection of sponsorship and community engagement early in his career. What struck him most was the people. Despite working for anindustry that's easy to criticise from the outside, he found many of his colleagues to be genuinely community-minded, regularly navigating real ethical dilemmas with care. There was a constant tension between commercial pressure todeliver shareholder returns and a genuine desire to make sure the impact on local communities was a positive one. That early exposure to ethical complexity has stayed withNed throughout his career, and it shows up clearly in his work today at Laureus Sport for Good. The Laureus World Sports Awards bring the glitz, but the real work happens at the other end of the scale entirely: taking the inspiration andpassion the world feels watching athletes like Lewis Hamilton, Novak Djokovic and Usain Bolt, and channelling it into young people navigating war, violence, gang crime, and lack of access to education and healthcare. The question Nedkeeps coming back to is how sport's emotional power can be harnessed to help young people change their own lives, and their communities, for the better. This episode of Purposely is brought to you by Benevity and Trust Investments.Key Themes

Merch - https://nonmembersshop.com/We kick off the episode by celebrating World Ocean Day and establishing a new strict deep-sea mandate: scientists need to completely stop discovering new, terrifying ocean creatures because humanity has officially hit its maximum capacity for unknowns. Erin details her highly specific ocean rules, explaining that she will only step foot in clear water during low tide because anything resembling high-tide seaweed, jellyfish, or a slimy freshwater pond is an absolute scare. Still recovering from our wild Las Vegas weekend and battling a massive wave of Sunday Scaries, Erin recaps a local backyard pig roast shindig she attended.Shifting over to fitness, Erin gives an exciting week seven update on her "Pull-Up Revolution" program. Because traveling threw off her routine, she had to smash multiple workouts back-to-back, leaving her body completely wrecked but yielding massive progress. This progress prompts her to recount an hour-long argument on a Vegas casino floor with triathlete coach Noel Mulkey, who claimed she could do a pull-up right now using "mind over matter".Mike then details a birthday trip to "Activate," a high tech indoor playground that feels like stepping straight into a Mr. Beast or Squid Game challenge. He spent an hour and a half jumping over glowing spy lasers, memorizing patterns on flashing floor tiles, and aggressively chucking balls at asteroids on a screen to clear a team scoreboard. Erin explains that her favorite part of the day is nesting in her couch corner to play Fortnite duos with Dan. We debate the game's massive age demographic and its chaotic mechanics, from dropping out of a flying bus to taking "magical trinkets" off defeated players. In major sports news, we analyze the Enhanced Games dropping a massive announcement: a whopping $10 million bounty for any athlete who can officially break Usain Bolt's legendary 2008 100-meter world record of 9.58 seconds. This leads into a massive wave of track and pop culture news, starting with the International Olympic Committee president going viral for a tone-deaf statement against paying Olympic athletes prize money. We look forward to the tech billionaire funded Athlos women's only track event in New York City this October, and celebrate Flavor Flav securing approval from Las Vegas commissioners to host "She Weekend", a massive, free public block party on the Vegas strip this July to support women's sports. We then dive into the courtroom drama where the Chicago Cubs are suing the owners of the iconic "Wrigley Rooftops" bleachers across the street, attempting to stop them from selling private vantage point tickets after their historical 17% revenue sharing agreement expired in 2024. While the Cubs claim lost revenue, the rooftop owners claim property rights, prompting us to mock the stadium's dry, $20 chicken tenders. We wrap up the episode with a heartwarming "No Bad, No Sad" story about a neighborhood Pet Walk Tour in Fairmont, Philly, where community members gather to spot cats in windows and hand out golden retriever high fives to build community.

Enhanced Games Recap: PEDs, PRs, Recovery, and the $10M Usain Bolt Bounty | Iron Radio In this Iron Radio episode, hosts Coach Phil Stevens, Dr. Mike T. Nelson, and Dr. Lonnie Lowery discuss the recent Enhanced Games, noting that unenhanced top-level competitors often beat enhanced entrants who were frequently retired for 5–14 years and had only about four months of prep, including roughly two months enhanced. They argue the results still showed meaningful effects, with many athletes—especially older ones—beating personal bests, and they highlight weightlifting as the sport with the most dramatic improvements, including an athlete opening 10 kg over his best and narrowly missing a world record at 30 kg over. They critique expectations of instant “Captain America” gains, discuss sport-specific tradeoffs (e.g., muscle mass and drag in swimming), mention strict FDA-approved protocols, heavy commercialization, major investors, prize payouts, Olympic bans, and a new $10M offer for breaking Usain Bolt's 100m record, with plans toward 2027. 00:00 Show Intro and Hosts 00:46 Concert Banter and Updates 01:41 Enhanced Games Recap 03:29 Why Records Didn't Fall 04:44 Swimming vs Strength Sports 06:25 Strongman Drug Rules 08:12 Money Incentives and Olympics 11:22 Training Timeline and Oversight 12:51 Sponsors and TRT Clinics 17:18 Marketing and Mechanical Doping 20:10 Recovery Not Just Muscle 22:31 Ethics and Pro Sports Testing 24:24 Testing Is a Joke 25:00 Doping Culture by Sport 25:33 Olympics Arms Race 27:04 Genetics Skill and Reality 28:47 Bodybuilding Drug Debate 31:33 Capitalism and Sport Picks 32:32 Tech Suits and Gear Rules 34:17 Results PRs and Future 35:54 Timeframes and Supervision 37:51 Safety Monitoring Ethics 41:12 Wrap Up and Disclaimer Donate to the show via PayPal HERE.You can also join Dr Mike's Insider Newsletter for more info on how to add muscle, improve your performance and body comp - all without destroying your health, go to www.ironradiodrmike.com Thank you!Phil, Jerrell, Mike T, and Lonnie

Ross and Gareth try to make sense of a tournament turned on its head by epically long five-set matches, multiple two-set-up defeats, and the emergence of potential new stars to challenge the duopoly atop men's tennisSinner is gone, Djokovic is gone, and the heat played a starring role. We revisit our applied show on heat adaptation to explain exactly why Sinner's implosion was both predictable physiologically, but surprising in its speed and persistenceSerena Williams has accepted a wildcard to play doubles at Queen's at 44. We explore the motivations for her return, and discuss why elite athletes retire in the first place? A thread on Discourse sparked by James gets us exploring the psychology and physiology of retirement, and why the grind we don't see is often the causeIn cycling, Lorena Wiebes was disqualified from the women's Giro after her bike allegedly weighed in 20 grams under the UCI's 6.8kg minimum. Was the punishment proportionate? Is the UCI's measurement process up to the required standard? Are SD Worx guilty of playing it too close to the limit? We explore the implications well beyond cycling, and ponder how the UCI's failure to present a clear justification for the regulation was ultimately its undoingTilting your bed by six degrees could raise your EPO levels by 13% and increase hemoglobin mass by nearly 5%. Ross explains the elegant logic of local storage and use, the lactate shuttle, and why liver is the unsung hero of endurance fuellingAnd Finally, the Enhanced Games have announced a $10 million bonus for anyone who breaks Usain Bolt's 100m world record at their 2027 event. In sports, the Brewers were off last night…but start a three-game series against the Astros in Houston tonight, the Spurs beat the Thunder last night to force a decisive Game Seven tomorrow night in OKC, the latest on the tragic death of hockey legend Claude Lemieux, and Jaxson Dart has some 'splaining to do with his Giants teammates after introducing President Donald Trump last week at an event. We let you know what's on TV this weekend and what's new in theaters. Plus, some new music releases to check out, and we also discussed whether or not "Disclosure Day" is propaganda to get the human race ready for an actual confirmation of alien life on Earth. Elsewhere in sports, the Enhanced Games are upping the prize for someone to break Usain Bolt's record, a NASCAR employee is suspended indefinitely for running someone over with a golf card, and a youth baseball coach is banned for LIFE! A new poll asked people to list some signs that someone has "made it"…and apparently a walk-in closet is in the top 10. Also, with Summer right around the corner, you might want to ease up on the DEET when you're chilling in the backyard. Allegedly, mosquitos can get used to it if you over-spray the stuff. Adding fuel to the fire: a Supreme Court decision that clears the way for Louisiana to redraw its congressional maps, and weakens the landmark 1965 Voting Rights Act. In his first television interview since that ruling, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry (R) speaks with correspondent Cecilia Vega about his decision to declare a state of emergency and suspend the state's House primaries until new district maps are drawn. Duke Sanford School of Public Policy Professor Anirudh Krishna has been studying a seemingly simple question: why do people in certain countries just seem better at some things than others? Think of the large number of world-class runners from Jamaica like Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, or the long list of top female golfers from South Korea. Why are people in tiny Estonia keep hatching software companies worth billions? Krishna's research shows that these examples are due in large part to structures that are specifically designed to support the rise of talent. By giving a fair chance to everyone these "ladders of opportunity" both produce champions and serve as avenues of upward mobility, supporting community development. Krishna's TED Talk, The 7 Pillars of Unlocking Potential, has garnered half a million views. His latest book is The Broken Ladder: The Paradox and Potential of India's One-Billion.

The Psychology of Winning | Michael Johnson

What separates the athletes who perform when it matters most from those who don't... and can that difference be trained?Michael Johnson is one of the greatest sprinters in history: four-time Olympic gold medalist, nine-time World Champion, and the former world record holder in both the 200 and 400 meters. He was also, by his own account, one of the most psychologically prepared competitors the sport has ever seen.In this conversation with Dr. Michael Gervais, Michael takes us inside the hidden moments before the race, the call room, the gathering space beneath the stadium where eight finalists wait together in silence (or something far less than silence) before stepping out under the brightest lights in sport. He explains why the call room isn't just a logistical stop before the race. It's where the race is often decided. And he breaks down exactly how he prepared his mind to show up there. At the center of the conversation is a distinction that Michael discovered early in his career: the difference between being nervous and being scared. Nervousness, he came to understand, was fuel, a sign that he wanted it, that he was alive to the moment. Fear was something different. Fear meant he was underprepared. And once he understood that, he could do something about it.Michael shares how he used mental imagery, constantly, automatically, almost without thinking, to rehearse races until every scenario felt familiar. He explains how he learned to control his environment on race day, why Usain Bolt's pre-race routine was the polar opposite of his own (and worked just as well), and what it really means to master the controllables when the world's fastest sprinters are sitting two feet away trying to get into your head. The conversation also moves into the second half of Michael's life. Eight years ago, at age 50, he suffered a stroke that forced him to relearn how to walk. He reflects on how the same mental frameworks that made him a champion, recognizing small improvements, managing what he could control, and staying present in the process, carried him through that recovery. And he opens up about what the experience taught him: how to depend on people, how to let relationships go both ways, and why the things he'd always controlled most tightly weren't the things that mattered most.In this conversation, we explore:Why the call room is where races are won and lost, and how to navigate itThe difference between nervousness (fuel) and fear (a signal of underpreparation)How Michael used mental imagery every single day, without structure or scheduleWhy self-knowledge is the single most impactful factor in sustained performanceHow Usain Bolt's exact opposite approach led to the same outcome, and what that meansWhat a stroke at 50 taught Michael about control, vulnerability, and relationshipsThe call room is everywhere. Learn how to master it.__________________________________Links & ResourcesSubscribe to our Youtube Channel for more conversations at the intersection of high performance, leadership, and wellbeing: https://www.youtube.com/c/FindingMasteryGet exclusive discounts and support our amazing sponsors!

The AI gap will kill companies. What is it? it's the large divide between AI's crazy impressive capabilities and what most companies are actually using them for. And one of the biggest reasons for the AI gap? Talking. Like... no one understands how to talk about AI because the technology changes faster than Usain Bolt in Beijing. You wanna talk to your AI team about LLMs? PFT. They're running Ralph Wiggum loops in Claude Code and just kinda reading the code before it hits production. Yeah, the divide is WIIIIIDE. So we're gonna tackle it together on the second volume of our Starter Series: AI Without the Jargon: The AI Language Every Business Leader Needs to live by in 2026 -- An Everyday AI Chat with Jordan WilsonNewsletter: Sign up for our free daily newsletterMore on this Episode: Episode PageJoin the discussion on LinkedIn: Thoughts on this? None of the roundtable participants like the term "super soldier." The only reason it is being used is because most in the alternative media community are familiar with it. A more appropriate term would be "enhanced humans" or perhaps "genetically modified transhumans." The future of war is going to look really, really weird. The super soldier research that DARPA is working on right now is unlike anything we have ever seen before. If DARPA is successful, and if the American people don't object, the soldiers of the future will be genetically modified transhumans capable of superhuman feats. Do you want a soldier that can run faster than Usain Bolt? DARPA is working on that. Do you want a soldier that won't need food or sleep for days? DARPA is working on that. Do you want a soldier that can regrow lost limbs? DARPA is working on that. Do you want a soldier that can outlift Olympic weightlifters and communicate telepathically? DARPA is working on that. Americans flock to movies about superheroes and mutants, and soon they may actually have real life superheroes and mutants fighting their wars for them. But at what cost? According to the U.S. Army's plans for the future, soldiers will be able to carry huge weights, live off their fat stores for extended periods, and even regrow limbs blown apart by bombs. Most gene modification techniques involve placing genetically modified DNA inside a virus and injecting it into the human body. The virus then enters human cells, and its modified DNA attaches itself to human DNA inside those cells. When you really stop and think about this kind of technology, the implications are staggering. Could viruses be used to genetically modify humanity on a large scale? How would the rest of humanity respond to a "super race" of mutants that are clearly superior to the rest of us? When you start messing with creation, it opens Pandora's Box. The possibilities are endless, but so are the potential problems. Just because we can do something does not mean that we should. There may be consequences decades down the road that we cannot even conceive of right now. Other super soldier research projects involve advanced technology and robotics rather than genetic modification. DARPA's Silent Talk program has been exploring mind-reading technology with devices that can pick up electrical signals inside soldiers' brains and send them over the internet. With these implants, entire armies will be able to talk without radios. Orders will leap instantly into soldiers' heads and commanders' wishes will become the wishes of their men. DARPA is also developing exoskeletons that will enable soldiers to lift incredible weights without tiring and perform physical tasks that normal soldiers simply could not do. They are also hoping to implant microchips that will constantly monitor the health and physical condition of soldiers in the field. Technology has progressed to the point where it would definitely be possible for a scientific dictatorship to completely and totally dominate humanity unlike anything we have ever seen before. We should be very careful about what we create. We might be creating our own living hell.

“When I crossed that finish line and ripped my shirt off, I was like, ‘Yeah!' That was one of my best moments… It was a dream come true, something that I've been wanting for years. I've dreamt about that moment and I finally got that moment!”Our guest today is Oblique Seville — the new 100-meter world champion and the man who brought Jamaica back to the top of men's sprinting. On a humid night in Tokyo in September, Seville ran 9.77 to win his first global title, the fastest championship final in six years, and the first for a Jamaican man since Usain Bolt. It was a performance years in the making and the fulfillment of potential we'd seen flashes of since he was 21 and running 9.86 for fourth place at the World Championships. In past championships, it was always something — an injury here, a tight groin there, or a perfect semifinal that came one race too soon. But this year was different with two big Diamond League wins, a healthy buildup and a conviction that his time had come. He said in the mixed zone: ‘This is my year. I'm going to take this moment and no one is going to take it away from me.'In this episode, we talk about how he finally made it happen — the lessons learned from setbacks, the mentorship of coach Glen Mills, and what it means to carry Jamaica's legacy forward after Bolt.Oblique Seville isn't loud, and he doesn't need to be. His running does all the talking. Without further ado, please welcome – the world's fastest man.____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez on InstagramGuest: Oblique Seville | @obliqueseville on InstagramProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr on Instagram____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSNOMIO: Made with 80% broccoli sprout juice, 15% lemon juice, and 5% sugar, Nomio activates your body's natural defense systems to reduce lactate, speed recovery, and enhance muscle adaptation.
