Women can do it, women can do it better !< LES FEMMES S'EMPARENT D'ELAB >Été 2020.

We talk about him starting out DJing growing up in DC and spinning at the legendary 930 Club, to NYC in the 90s/00s (where I first met him), to moving to Philly in the early Oos and becoming the buyer at Armands, the main hip hop store there. Joe ran Ol' Head Records through Diplo's Mad Decent label and put out some early Jersey Club and Baltimore Breaks. His Luvstep series with Fluffatronix was an exploration into the soulful side of Dubstep. He currently has an Anime party that mixes DJing and VJing together. Dirty South Joe is also Palestinian, something I learned years after knowing him, and we talk about changing perceptions on Palestine. We welcome Martinovna, an esteemed VJ, who has shared the stage with the likes of Kanding Ray, Ancient Methods and Keith Carnal. She is also one of the leading visual artists for festivals such as Revive and lately Escape From Reality (the virtual festival by RAW agency). In our chat, she tells us the reason why as artists, we may not want to compromise to avoid diluting our creation. Martinovna is super passionate about techno and electronic music in general and has started VJing after being inspired by what she saw in gigs. Year by year, show after show, she has crafted her own style to make visual performances that help shape the vibe in clubs and festivals. As you will discover, it does not take much to start VJing, but what makes each artist's creation unique is the work that is put toward each performance and the experience that the artist accumulates over the years. Martinovna shoots herself a lot of the content that ends up in her visuals and often ends up investing days for each performance. In our conversation, we talk a lot about her influences such as Bjork, her ambitions, and how chaos can actually be part of the creative process. Coding Amateur Hour — Stories and Banter about Javascript and the Web

My good friend Ari is my guest this week, claiming VJing is totally the JavaScript of the club, giving me a lesson in scalability, and teaching us to keep your eyes three feet in front of you while coding like e.e. cummings. We're drinking Lagunitas Sucks, which didn't actually suck.
