Vodafone Ireland is encouraging Irish users to unlock the full potential of their mobile phones by enabling the hidden Wi-Fi Calling feature to improve their phone network experience. Available on most Apple and Android devices, Wi-Fi Calling, also known as VoWi-Fi, allows users to make and receive calls in any location where you are connected to a Wi-Fi network, even if there is no regular phone signal or poor indoor coverage. This easy-to-use feature allows calls to be made using Wi-Fi, ensuring seamless communication, even in areas with challenging signal conditions. While mobile networks technology is continually advancing and improving for the better, network coverage may occasionally be influenced by structural, natural, and geographical factors. Consequently, mobile users may experience varying levels of cellular network as they go about their daily activities, especially in areas with unique signal conditions. By enabling VoWi-Fi, users can experience consistent call quality and connectivity, regardless of their location. Fiona Sheridan, Head of Network Deployment for Vodafone Ireland said: "Vodafone has been consistently recognised as the best mobile network in Ireland by independent awards such as nPerf and Umlaut. Even so, we want to enhance our customers network experience even more. By activating the Wi-Fi Calling feature, users can fully utilise their mobile phones, ensuring uninterrupted communication even in areas with weak signal coverage. This feature leverages Wi-Fi to make calls, offering consistent call quality and connectivity, without any additional costs. We encourage all our customers to enable VoWi-Fi and enjoy the benefits of seamless communication, no matter where they are." Wi-Fi Calling Providing seamless call quality, VoWi-Fi offers connection without fuss, and all from places that regular phone signal cannot reach - no separate app needed. At no extra cost or hidden charges, Vodafone VoWi-Fi calling is charged at the same rate as making a call over the cellular network. Users can enable VoWi-Fi Calling on their iOS and Android mobile device by enabling the feature in 'Settings' and switching the toggle 'Wi-Fi Calling' to the 'On' position, then click 'OK' to confirm. Three steps to set up Wi-Fi Calling on iOS/Apple: From your start screen - select Settings then Mobile Service Select Wi-Fi Calling Toggle Wi-Fi Calling to the on position, then click Enable to confirm Three steps to set up Wi-Fi Calling on Android: From your Home screen select Phone Tap the menu on the top-right then select Settings Toggle Wi-Fi Calling to the on position then click OK to confirm 4G Calling Want even more connectivity? Experience seamless, high-quality calls with 4G Calling, also known as VoLTE. This feature is also available to Vodafone customers with compatible devices, allowing seamless, high-quality calls to take place via mobile wherever the user has access the 4G network. Like with Wi-Fi Calling, 4G Calling has no effect on the user's data streaming, enabling users to carry on multi-tasking - watch videos, use apps, or do anything that uses data - all while enjoying consistent call quality. To learn more or to check if your phone supports 4G and Wi-Fi Calling, please visit your local Vodafone store or visit Vodafone WiFi Calling.
A lucky Vodafone Business customer will get to answer Ireland's call and bring their business to the big screen at a packed Aviva Stadium as Ireland host France in round three of the Six Nations Championships on March 8th. Vodafone provides business support to over 60% of Irish businesses. The Bring your Business to the Big Screen initiative is worth over €25,000 to the successful SME and is open to Vodafone SME Business customers. Vodafone is offering its winning partner some of its own in-stadium pitch-side branding for the highly anticipated Six Nations fixture against France. The winning business will also receive an exclusive video content package, two VIP tickets to attend the match and see their brand advertised, as well as an exclusive invitation to meet the team at their Captain's Run the day before the match. Last year's Six Nations clash between Ireland and France attracted a TV audience of over 1 million viewers in Ireland and 6.6 million viewers in France and when Ireland last hosted the French in Dublin in 2023, the fixture delivered a 70% share of Ireland's TV audience. As the two tournament favorites go head-to-head, the Aviva Stadium will be at full capacity adding another 50,000 people to the number who will be exposed to the company's brand. To enter, companies must visit the Vodafone.ie business website and fill out a simple form - entries must be submitted by the 7th February, 2025. Over 2,000 SMEs applied to participate in Vodafone's 'Bring your Business to the Big Screen' initiative in 2024 which provided four small Irish businesses exposure during the Autumn Nations Series at the Aviva Stadium in November 2024 - SOS Cookies (Limerick), The Farmhouse.ie (Longford), JANDO and Lotts & Co. (both Dublin) were featured on pitch-side and digital screen advertising during the game. Amanda Nelson, CEO at Vodafone Ireland said: "This initiative is one of the most rewarding for our Vodafone Business team as we get to leverage our Irish Rugby sponsorship to the benefit of one of our SME customers. This scheme will expose their brand to over 1 million people in Ireland and will also deliver significant exposure overseas. Ireland and France are the favourites for this year's Six Nations title, which will increase interest even further in the fixture and provide a fantastic platform for one of our SME customers to share in the spotlight." Vodafone Ireland has been the main sponsor of the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) since 2016. As part of this sponsorship, Vodafone shares a number of exclusive benefits with its customers, allowing them to feel part of the #TeamOfUs.This competition along with practical supports like V-Hub, a free digital support service offering tailored advice to help businesses navigate their digital transformation journey, are just some of the ways Vodafone is supporting small businesses.

Vodafone Ireland has signed a new Corporate Power Purchasing Agreement (CPPA) with energy supplier Flogas, along with its infrastructure partner Vantage Towers. This agreement allows Vodafone to directly purchase renewable electricity from the Derrynadivva Wind Farm located in Mayo. Vodafone is the first telco in Ireland to sign a CPPA. The investment of €6million is part of the company's sustainability goals to achieve net zero across its full value chain by 2040. Combined with other agreements Vodafone has in place, 100% of its Irish operations are matched with certificates of renewable energy sources in Ireland. The energy secured within this agreement gives Vodafone access to clean, high quality and affordable renewable electricity for its extensive network of cables that deliver mobile and fixed services to customers across Ireland. As part of this agreement, the company's infrastructure partners, Vantage Towers will also receive renewable energy from the Derrynadivva Wind Farm. Amanda Nelson, CEO at Vodafone Ireland said: "We are proud of the steps we're taking to not only support our customers to be greener but also green our own operations. Today's announcement is an investment in Ireland and its renewable energy industry. This is a significant step towards our own ambitious net zero targets.'' Brian McHugh, Managing Director at Vantage Towers Ireland said: "Vantage Towers' infrastructure network is totally powered by renewable energy, in line with our global ESG agenda. Sustainability is a necessity, and this agreement with Flogas is a further commitment to minimizing the impact of our business on the environment, and a continued investment in Ireland's natural generating capability.'' Pat Brett, Director at Derrynadivva Wind Farm Ltd said: "We are thrilled that Derrynadivva Wind Farm in Co Mayo continues to play a pivotal role in Ireland's transition to a sustainable energy future. By delivering clean, renewable wind energy to some of the nation's largest companies, we are not only helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but also supporting these businesses in their commitment to more efficient and responsible energy consumption." James Temple, Renewables Manager at Flogas, said: "The CPPA with Vodafone Ireland underscores the accelerating commitment of Irish companies to increase their use of carbon-free energy and lead in renewable energy adoption. As a leading provider of clean energy CPPAs, Flogas is dedicated to enhancing the economic feasibility of renewable projects and advancing Ireland's transition to a low-carbon economy." Vodafone's sustainability strategy also focuses on reducing its energy consumption. In Ireland, the company uses an Intelligent Energy Management System. This is a system in which a machine learning algorithm across the 4G network analyses traffic patterns in real-time, allowing Vodafone reduce congestion and ultimately reduce energy consumption by 10 to 15%. Vodafone Ireland also provides ways for customers be more sustainable including 'Fix & Go' for repairs and upgrades to extend the lifecycle of phones, as well as eSIMs which reduce carbon emissions by removing the need to manufacture and ship plastic, and a variety of eco accessories. In 2022, Vodafone became the first telco in Ireland to offer a device trade-in service which has been very well received by customers, with over 35,000 devices returned to Vodafone to date. The initiative offers customers up to €400 for old smartphone devices which customers can use as store credit towards the purchase of a new device or receive payment directly into their bank account. After the device is traded in Vodafone ensures each device is refurbed, recycled or repurposed, as part of our commitment to a circular economy.
This summer, Vodafone boosted connectivity by placing temporary sites at ten major events across the country, including, Bloom, Kaleidoscope, Flavours of Fingal, All Together Now, Tullamore show, Moynalty Steam Threshing and Electric Picnic, as well as events within Malahide Castle. St Annes Park and Marlay Park, including Longitude Festival. Looking back at the traffic, the team at Vodafone saw that the network handled more than 140 terabytes (TB) of data, equivalent to about 11 years of streaming videos, and approximately 2 million voice calls, facilitating customers' need to stay connected and share their special moments. As anticipated, Electric Picnic struck a chord, amping up over 40% of the total data and dialling in over 50% of the total calls across these summer events. The recent Fleadh in Wexford, and Electric Picnic showcased an array of app usage among attendees, highlighting the evolving needs and interests of festival-goers. Not surprisingly for Ireland, weather apps were among the most popular. Approximately 40,000 Vodafone customers at the Fleadh and 50,000 at Electric Picnic checked in on the apps to stay informed about weather conditions. Map apps also played a crucial role, guiding around 50,000 Fleadh attendees and 45,000 Electric Picnic goers. Additionally, social media and communication apps like Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and TikTok saw substantial usage, enabling festival-goers to share their experiences and memories in real-time. In addition to summer events, Ireland welcomed global superstars Taylor Swift and Coldplay to our shores. Vodafone's network team prepared for uplifts in data traffic at these major concerts. At the Taylor Swift's shows, Vodafone recorded record-breaking data consumption at the Aviva, with traffic peaking each night the moment she took to the stage. Similarly, during Coldplay's performances, the network handled a significant increase in data usage, particularly on Sunday when Aslan made their first surprise appearance. The network upgrades across these events underscore Vodafone's commitment to delivering a reliable service. By effectively managing substantial data volumes and maintaining consistent connectivity, Vodafone has facilitated a seamless experience for their customers throughout the summer at multiple events. Vodafone Ireland, in collaboration with Folk VML, is proud to unveil a powerful new out-of-home (OOH) campaign addressing the escalating issue of e-waste in Ireland. As part of Vodafone's ongoing 'Home of Trade-In' initiative, this campaign uses the stunning backdrop of Glendalough to highlight the magnitude of e-waste through a dramatic depiction of a literal mountain of unused smartphones. With more than 5 million unused smartphones languishing in drawers across Ireland, the valuable raw materials they contain are being overlooked and wasted. This issue remains largely hidden and forgotten, as these devices sit idle and unused. Vodafone offers a range of solutions to tackle this growing problem, including refurbished smartphones, Trade-In programs, device repair, and recycling services. These initiatives give unused phones a new lease on life, ensuring they are repaired, recycled, or repurposed. Speaking about the campaign Amanda Nelson, CEO at Vodafone Ireland, said: ''This campaign was designed to grab attention and spark conversations around e-waste and the role we can all play in tackling this problem. Through initiatives like Trade-in, fix and go, recycling and our refurbished phones, we are committed to addressing this problem by extending the lifecycle of our customers devices, offering them better, more sustainable value that's kinder to the planet." Jonny Cullen, Creative Director at Folk VML added: ''There are over 5 million unused smartphones across the breadth of Ireland. Calling out that alarming stat is one thing but bringing that stat to life for the consumer in a dramatic visual is way more powerful. Our job was to inform the public that you can do something about it by trading in, repairing, recycling and repurposing these smartphones thanks to Vodafone.'' The adverts will appear on billboards at Summerhill North Road in Cork City, Dorset Street in Dublin and Wellpark Road in Galway City from Monday 26th August to September 8th. See more stories here.
Vodafone has confirmed that over 65,000 older adults have participated in digital learning courses aimed at increasing levels of digital literacy among older people. This initiative addresses the growing digital exclusion experienced by older adults, empowering them to use the internet in their daily lives and stay connected for the future. The Hi Digital programme encourages and includes older people in digital learning, building confidence and skills, especially for those feeling isolated from digital society and vulnerable to being left behind. Launched in 2021, the free online Hi Digital course is divided into short lessons that teach older adults how to access the internet, use smartphones, stay safe online, and identify and avoid scams and fraud. In 2023, the Vodafone Hi Digital programme expanded to offer in-person support for older adults in Vodafone stores nationwide with 'Drop-in Fridays'. This service provides free practical support on using phones, tablets, and computers. Due to its popularity, Vodafone has added 13 additional stores to the programme, including new locations in Cork, Kerry, Louth, Tipperary, Wexford, and Wicklow. Hi Digital Drop-In Fridays occur every Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with trained 'Hi Digital Ambassadors' offering personalised assistance. For those unable to attend on Fridays, the free online course at hidigital.ie provides useful tips and information. The Vodafone Foundation will soon launch a new video on the Hi Digital site, demonstrating how to navigate the Transport for Ireland app, helping older adults incorporate it into their daily lives. Programme Highlights: 65,000 Participants: Since its inception, over 65,000 older adults have engaged with the Hi Digital programme through online courses, in-person training, and drop-in sessions. Diverse User Base: Approximately 60% of Hi Digital platform users are female and 40% are male, with an average age range of 65-75. The programme also regularly supports individuals in their 80s. Store Expansion: Vodafone Ireland have added an additional 13 stores which offer the Hi Digital Drop In Friday service, bringing the total to 49 locations nationwide. Popular Training Modules: The most popular modules include 'Introduction to Using My Smartphone', 'Computers and the Internet - Basics', 'Identifying Scams and Frauds', and 'Introduction to Apps - Using WhatsApp'. Partnership with Irish Girl Guides: In 2023, Vodafone Foundation launched a partnership with the Irish Girl Guides. To date, 25 Girl Guides units across the country have been trained as Digital Champions and have trained over 2,000 older people. The programme has been transformative for many older adults, enabling them to connect more easily with family and friends, access vital services, and navigate the digital world with confidence. Liz Roche, Head of the Vodafone Foundation in Ireland, said: "The Hi Digital programme has been a transformative initiative, bridging the digital divide and empowering older adults to confidently navigate the digital world. Seeing the positive impact on participants' lives, from staying connected to loved ones to safely using online services, highlights how important this programme is to our participants. We are looking forward to continuing to expand our learning modules and making it as accessible as possible to ensure that nobody gets left behind in the digital world." Vodafone Ireland has been named the best mobile network for the 9th consecutive year by independent benchmarking organisation umlaut. It assessed all mobile networks available and is the most comprehensive test in Ireland. Vodafone has also been recognised as the 'Best Choice' for broadband and mobile converged services. For mobile, the company achieved 'Best in Test' and scored highest above its competitors, with a score of 922 points out of 1000, the highest score ever received for mobile in Ireland. As well as number one nationwide, Vodafone has received "Best in Reliability" with the highest score across this category. Amanda Nelson, CEO of Vodafone Ireland, said: "We are absolutely delighted with this external recognition of the reliable network experience our mobile and fixed customers enjoy. Our entire team at Vodafone Ireland are passionate about ensuring 'always on' connectivity for our customers in homes and businesses throughout the country. We are committed to investing in our network and customer experience, and to score the highest marks ever for any mobile network in Ireland is a great moment and validation of that work." Umlaut, which this year assessed more than 200 networks in over 120 countries, tested and measured the performance of networks offering both mobile and fixed broadband converged services across Ireland for the first time. In conducting the mobile benchmark analysis, umlaut carries out a 5,500 km drive and walk test, across five cities, 16 towns and all major roads with 10,000 voice calls and 75,000 data sessions. This equates to 40% population coverage. The true customer experience is even more extensive, using crowd-sourced data from 98% of the population and testing an area of 62,962 km2. To measure fixed broadband, 3.7 million samples were collected from 4187 lines. Vodafone Ireland is amongst the top-performing mobile networks worldwide. When it came to converged broadband services, Vodafone came out on top for fixed broadband with an overall score of 941 points out of 1,000. The recognition comes as Vodafone continues to invest in its network. Following its €300 million investment over the last three years, an additional €500 million is currently being deployed over the next four years to enhance services for customers. The investment in the network includes the shut off of 3G and transition to the stronger and more sustainable 4G and 5G networks to provide the most reliable network experience across Ireland. The 3G shut-off has already been successful in Limerick, Cork, and Galway city, with Dublin City set to follow in the coming weeks. Earlier this year, Vodafone won the award for Best Mobile Performance in 2023 with nPerf for the 2nd year in a row. Nperf points are calculated based on five key performance indicators (KPIs) of Download Speed, Upload Speed, Latency, Web browsing and YouTube Streaming. Vodafone came out on top across Upload Speed, Latency, Web browsing and YouTube Streaming. Vodafone home broadband customers are set to benefit from significant cost savings of almost €1,000 over four years as the company announces the removal of promotional offers. This breaks from the industry norm by treating every customer the same and not increasing the monthly bill after the minimum contract term. The new broadband plans, available now, will see Vodafone customers rewarded with potential savings of up to €240 over one year and €960 over four years on €40 a month 500Mbps plan. Nearly 65% of Vodafone's broadband fibre base are currently on this type of plan, highlighting the sheer scale of savings for customers. Currently, customers get introductory tariffs, but the price goes up significantly after the minimum contract term - this non-promotional price can be as much as 117% higher than the introductory price offered to new customers. ComReg found that 84% of households have not switched broadband provider in the last 3 years, so households are paying higher prices under this structure. Vodafone recognise that this current industry practice is not working for customers and wanted to reward loyalty so have introduced this first-of-its-kind new broadband pricing structure that does right by all customers - new and existing. Vodafone also want to simplify the set up and encourage households to move to fibre, if available, by removing all installation fees. Amanda Nelson, CEO at Vodafone Ireland, commented; "At Vodafone, we value loyalty and want to treat every customer - new and existing - the same. We also want to reduce the burden, simplify our offering to make our customers' lives easier, along with giving them significant savings on their home broadband. We therefore have taken the lead to be bold and do things differently by removing promotional pricing with this new broadband pricing structure. "So now our home broadband customers won't face significant increases after a year, and they won't have to renegotiate their broadband plan for lower, introductory offers. This is part of our commitment to give our customers a fair, positive, hassle-free experience and allow them to avail of high-speed fibre connectivity across Ireland." These savings for Vodafone customers will now be available on all speeds including: 100Mbps, 500Mbps, 1Gb, 2Gb. For example, existing customers on a €60 a month 500Mpbs fibre home broadband plan can recontract for €40 a month (plus APA of CPI + 3% every April), saving €20 a month. Existing customers can change to Vodafone's new plans once the minimum contract is finished on their current plan, so a customer on a €35 a month introductory offer now (which would rise to €60 after the minimum term), can re-contract to a fixed €40 plan before the price goes up to €60. The new plans are available on all Vodafone networks; SIRO, eFTTH, NBI, and customers can avail of the new plans across all sales channels - Online, Retail, Franchisees, FOTs, Telesales (including live chat) and care channels. Vodafone will become the first operator in Ireland to switch on an Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN) sites, in partnership with Parallel Wireless, a U.S. provider of Open RAN solutions. The innovative technology, which is being initially trialled in North Kildare and then rolled out across the North West region, will deliver new 4G service coverage to 30 locations in a faster and more cost-efficient way. In a traditional Radio Access Network, both the hardware and software elements are products from the same vendor and work closely in tandem with each other. However, the new Open RAN system allows telecommunications operators to deploy their own software on generic hardware in the Radio Access Network. This allows one supplier’s software to be integrated within another supplier’s radio and server hardware, which was not previously possible. As a result, alternative, smaller vendors can now increase the supply of radio network access equipment and software – making the market more competitive by avoiding vendor lock-in. In addition, Vodafone will also pioneer the use of system integrators to further improve product automation covering zero-touch provisioning, testing and operational process definition for Open RAN, and in doing so, further developing the ecosystem to include RAN automation vendors. This announcement follows a commitment from Vodafone Group to use emerging Open RAN technology for at least 2,600 sites in the UK. It is the largest confirmed promise made by a European carrier to embrace technology companies from outside the established supply chain. Vodafone Ireland Chief Technology Officer, Didier Clavero said: “Delivering Open RAN sites is a pivotal moment in the provision of mobile coverage to rural communities in Ireland, as this pioneering new approach reduces cost, increases flexibility and enables new suppliers to support the expansion of Vodafone’s mobile network in hard to reach areas. Focusing on the North West region, to begin with, we will continue to identify communities across Ireland where we can more economically introduce access to voice and high-speed data using the new technology.” Parallel Wireless’ Chief Operating Officer, Keith Johnson, said: “Through their ongoing innovation, Vodafone has gained a first-hand understanding of how Open and software-defined RAN can simplify deployments while reducing TCO. This has served as the foundation of our ongoing partnership and has allowed us to make great strides around the deployments of Open RAN globally. We are proud to support Vodafone Ireland as their strategic partner in helping them to reimagine wireless networks with Open RAN to be much lower cost ensuring access to connectivity across the region. As a leading innovator, Vodafone Ireland is setting the standard for providing better 4G experience for the consumers and businesses. By shifting networks to virtualized OpenRAN, quality coverage can be delivered to many new subscribers at a much lower cost with faster time-to-market.” Attilio Zani, TIP ́s Executive Director said “We are thrilled to move our focus to System Integration in OPEN RAN as new tools, processes are needed to capture the potential of the OPEN RAN Technology. It ́s also essential that we provide early operational feedback to the Radio Solutions that are still in the development stage” More about Irish Tech News and Business Showcase here. Global 5G and LTE wireless WAN vendor, Cradlepoint, and leading distributor, Westbase.io, has announced new mobile-first connectivity solutions for Vodafone Ireland’s business customers. The partnership will provide these customers with access to the latest developments in cellular networking, enabling them to unlock business potential and opportunities. As well as advancing Vodafone Ireland’s secure IP VPN solution for remote workers, the operator’s business customers will be able to easily deploy instant connectivity within a matter of days, providing rapid deployment for new and temporary sites to operate at full capacity from day one. In addition, the range of Cradlepoint solutions will also include a best-in-class 4G failover connectivity option, protecting branch locations from downtime costs, and reducing the impact on customers. “Vodafone Ireland is committed to bringing our award-winning connectivity to every part of Ireland through our continuous network investment and by working with leading partners like Westbase.io and Cradlepoint. Through this partnership, our business customers will now have access to enterprise-grade mobile broadband solutions with advanced VPN security to enhance their connectivity,” said Brian Duffner, Head of Product and Marketing for Vodafone Ireland. This new mobile-first approach is already proving successful with Vodafone Ireland’s customers, and several early adopters have trialled the solutions successfully. Of these, Aer Lingus, Ireland’s national airline, was among the first to utilise the new Cradlepoint solutions: “Cradlepoint’s solution was deployed quickly and seamlessly – and it really showed us the power of 4G technology in relation to rapid deployment connectivity,” said Mike Flynn, Head of Business Technologies for Aer Lingus. Westbase.io, the leading UK, Ireland and European distributor for Cradlepoint, has supported Vodafone Ireland throughout the onboarding process, delivering extensive training programmes and other services to help position the operator to bring these new technologies to market – and will continue to support it and its business customers moving forwards: “Working with Vodafone Ireland has been rewarding, and the committed partnership on both sides has enabled us to accelerate the timeline for getting these exciting propositions to their business customers,” said James Kenny, Ireland Country Manager for Westbase.io. “The combination of market demand for more flexible connectivity options with Vodafone Ireland’s reputation for excellence, and their investment in their cellular network, means that the potential opportunity is significant. We’re excited to see that the Cradlepoint solutions are already being adopted by enterprise customers.” Building on this initial launch of an LTE and LTE-Advanced portfolio, Vodafone Ireland will also be working with Westbase.io and Cradlepoint to explore the pathway to 5G wireless connectivity. “Cradlepoint offers the most pathways to 5G in our industry, and we already have several 5G capable devices that provide a simple upgrade path. Earlier this year, we also announced a new range of 5G endpoints scheduled for release in early 2021,” said Sascha Kremer, EMEA Carrier Business Development Director for Cradlepoint. The majority (79%) of Irish businesses who have adopted Internet of Things (IoT) have reported that the technology was key to maintaining business continuity during the pandemic, according to a new report from Vodafone Business. Nearly three in four (73%) of businesses now view the integration of IoT devices with workers as a higher priority than before. Separately, nearly eight in 10 (78%) are now considering implementing this technology and agree the pandemic will accelerate their adoption of it. Completed for Vodafone Business’ new global 2020 IoT Spotlight Report, the research focuses on the impact IoT is having on businesses by investigating the relationship between IoT and business strategy, resilience and success. The responses gathered in May 2020, in the midst of the restrictions, from 1,639 businesses in 13 countries, including 70 in Ireland, explored how they are using IoT, now and into the future. The study found that the benefits of IoT range from improving operational efficiency to creating new connected products and services. Moreover, it found that Irish companies who invest in IoT technology have recorded a 44% increase in employee productivity and a 52% increase in improved customer experience. IoT making a difference through COVID-19 IoT and maintenance of business continuity and resilience during the pandemic is evident in the research, with 64% of Irish adopters increasing the pace of IoT projects during this time. Globally, this figure was 77%. Embracing digital The value of the data that IoT generates was a standout in this year’s report, with many businesses seeing this data as essential to shaping strategy and offering tailored services for customers. Nearly eight in 10 (79%) of adopters in Ireland thanked IoT for being able to do things they couldn’t before, while the same number credited IoT data with helping their businesses meet their sustainability goals. Globally, 86% of respondents said IoT has changed the way they approach analytics and the value of data, with 87% agreeing their core business strategy has changed for the better, after adopting IoT. The data from IoT provides businesses with the capability, control and confidence to make better-informed decisions, which is crucial in navigating business in the current environment. Marc Daly, Interim IoT Country Manager, Vodafone Ireland said: “IoT has grown up. It is no longer just about increasing return on investment or providing cost savings to businesses: it is changing the way they think and operate. In addition, it is giving them an opportunity to redesign their operations and future-proof their business model. In just two years, Vodafone Ireland’s IoT connections have grown by more than 50% and there are over 100 million IoT connections on the Vodafone network, globally. This rapid growth shows the appetite for IoT technologies and this report clearly shows how IoT as an essential technology for businesses that want to resilient, more flexible and quicker to adapt and react to change. In the current climate, it is more important than ever for businesses to become agile and flexible. This is what IoT can offer.” Improving business performance In supporting business performance and creating additional revenue streams, the report reveals that 81% of adopters in Ireland are achieving a return on investment, with 47% recording an 18% operating cost reduction when incorporating IoT technology. Barriers to IoT adoption While cybersecurity continues to be a worry for businesses and was a notable barrier to IoT adoption in the past, the findings show a significant reduction in cybersecurity concerns, with only 22% of Irish businesses now classing it as one of the top three barriers to IoT implementation. In addition, the report also highlighted that 84% of respondents globally view security as a challenge to overcome rather than as an obstacle to innovation. With 43% of global adopters believing the opportunities I...

Jess Kelly presents this six-part series. Over the coming weeks, we'll bring you in-depth conversations with the likes of the MD of Microsoft Ireland and the Data Protection Commissioner. We begin this week with Anne O’Leary, the CEO of Vodafone Ireland. Hailing from Cork, Anne O’Leary has been in the driving seat at Vodafone since 2013. She oversees a 50:50 gender split at senior leadership level and is a champion of wellbeing, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace. Managing a team of 2,000 employees is a huge responsibility, but Anne O’Leary takes it all in her stride. As chief executive of Vodafone Ireland, she has worked hard to build an inclusive, flexible and empathetic culture. Anne does not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to people management. Instead she is focused on understanding what works for individual employees and their lives outside the office. She not only talks the talk on work-life balance but this former triathlete, who still has a passion for exercise, lives it too.
Aoife Mulqueen of Vodafone Ireland joins Emmet Ryan on the big show to talk about how companies need to think broader about how they hire and retain staff. From unconscious bias through diversity and inclusion, she has plenty to say about how doing the right thing for potential hires is going to help your business save time and money while enabling growth.
