Asana is the third limb to the eight limb path of Yoga according to the Yoga Sutras. Asana is associated with ascetic austerities that are practiced to result in the state of mind being stilled and awakened. In Yoga Sutra 2.46 it states, to practice Asana you just need two things, Sthira – Steadiness and Sukham – Comfort. Patanjali's purpose of asana was to be steady and comfortable in the posture to meditate. Any posture. The next suggestion was from Yoga Sutra 2.47 which states how to master Asana. Be in a posture where there is structural integrity and a sense of ease. Then create effort by meditating on something specific, becoming more effortless. Pointing the practitioner to train the mind to rest it's awareness on something, leading it to stillness. Stillness is the goal of the activity of practicing Yoga-Asana, stated in Yoga Sutra 1.2 Citta Vritti Nirodha, stilling the fluctuations of the mind to then enter the state of Yoga. Hatha Yogis figured out that if you created activity on the levels of the body, energy and mind, it increases one's access to stillness, quietude and being motionless. So create effort to become effortless! To read more and to practice with Zephyr Wildman, click here. To support Zephyr Yoga Podcast, donate here. Hosted on Acast. Soul Awareness with Constance Messmer

Your Higher Self is your connection to realms of spirit. It is also known as your Higher Consciousness. In the energy system of the soul, it can and does permeate your entire being, but as a "chakra" I tap into it in the location above your Crown Chakra, above your head. For focusing energy to Higher Self connection, the Yoga Asana that I turn to is Guru Pranam: Bow to Teacher pose. Shankhavarta Mudra is the hand mudra that I use when meditating on this aspect of my being. The colors that I see associated with this area are ultra-violet and white light. I use the note F, crystal chakra bowls, and Tibetan singing bowls. The reverberating vibrations of these notes help to balance the energy associated with the Higher Self. To find out more about this amazing energy aspect of your being, hear what more I have to say in this episode. Thanks for Tuning In!

Undoubtedly, most yoga teachers are actually teaching only a tiny part of yoga i.e, the physical practice of yoga called asanas in modern times. But there is a lot of confusion in the world of asana because sequencing yoga poses in an effective, cohesive, and logical manner leads to a direct favorable outcome on the student's body, breath and mind not only on that given day but also acts as an investment in the practice is a skill that most yoga teachers struggle with. Moreso, if you've only learned how to "vinyasa" your way through yoga. This has caused more problems than solutions but most yoga teachers are yet to realize this. In today's episode, I take you through my 5r7 step process of how I approach asana sequencing. Fair warning, you need to have had some decent quality asana education to really understand this conversation. Grab your pen & paper, and brew your chai because this is a sequencing masterclass coming straight to you. Teaching Yoga To Beginners Course: https://www.mindfulyogateachers.com/beginnersyttYou can find all the resources mentioned in this episode in the show notes at https://letstalk.yoga/Connect with us on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/arundhati_baitmangalkar/Join our mailing list: https://www.aham.yoga/instagram-2021 for all episodes.

They say thoughts create our reality. But because of ego, our mind can sometimes be unreliable and untrustworthy. It produces a superficial fear that disconnects us from the voice of our intuition. That said, the only way to tune into your purpose is to look inwards and reconnect with your true self. All this takes is pausing, embracing stillness, and returning to your center. This energy shift then manifests itself into different aspects of our lives. In this episode, 3-time New York Times bestselling author Kimberly Snyder joins us to talk about her new book. Kimberly candidly shares the life experiences that led her to write books and the yogic path. She discusses teachings and practices that will allow us to tune into our purpose and connect with our true self. She stayed in Africa for seven months and Asia for 18 months with little money.●Kimberly grew up as a mixed-race in an almost 100% Caucasian town. She never felt like she fit in.●India was the place that had the most impact on her. It is where she learned about yoga and meditation for the first time.●The yogic science teaches about energy concentration and withdrawal and connecting to the true self.Stepping into the Flow●She learned and started practicing the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda.●Kimberly came back to the US three years later broke and still lost. She sublet a place and returned to teaching Yoga Asana and nutrition school.●The Teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda helped her create something out of nothing.●She started stepping into the flow upon creating her free WordPress blog. It spread out to New York City shortly after telling her yoga students about it.●Kimberly eventually set out to work with celebrities and appeared on Good Morning America and Dr. Oz regularly.Getting into Writing Books●Her first book deal with HarperCollins was The Beauty Detox Solution, which sold a million copies.●The second book she wrote was a complete book, followed by the third book about chakra called “The Beauty Detox Power”.●She co-wrote her third book “Radical Beauty” with Deepak Chopra. It was about Ayurveda and spirituality.●The fifth book, "The Beauty Detox Power" was about the mind and body.●"You Are More Than You Think You Are" is Kimberly's full playbook. She signed the book deal three days after giving birth to her second son.Tuning into Our Purpose●You Are More Than You Think You Are is a guidebook. It teaches about practices, techniques, and teachings for creating in life.●Connecting with the true self is the first step to finding our purpose.●Thoughts can both be supportive and unsupportive. It goes back to our ego and how we think of ourselves.●Wayne Dyer: 2% of who we are is the outer shell of looking and doing. The true self is our formless, stable, courageous, and infinitely creative part.●The true self is the voice of our intuition, heart, and guts. Meanwhile, the ego is often fear-based and keeps us small and limited. How to Connect With Our True Self●We can connect with our true selves through stillness and coming back to our center.●The solution is not at the same place as the problem. What is needed is to balance our time in outer doing and conduct practices of inner connection.●Kimberly's Practical Enlightenment Meditation is only around 7 to 8 minutes. It allows you to turn inward, withdraw your senses, and connect in.●It is a great idea to do journaling after a meditation session.●Strengthening our dynamic allows us to gain greater flow and energy and get powerful at manifesting.Discerning Between Ego and Intuition●Ego is about pushing; living from intuition is like a river that is flowing.●The ego is a trickster that creates fear and makes our thoughts unreliable. The one clear channel we can rely on is the body's wisdom.●The true self is speaking when our body feels expansive; tightness and constriction mean we are aligning with the ego.●It is critical to pause, make a shift, and recognize the feeling in our body when we are identifying with our ego. It is experiential.Applying the Practices from the Book●The actual application of the practices from the book is critical to experiencing an energy shift in your life.●Kimberly's rock bottom period happened when she lost her mom to cancer and became a single mom shortly after.●A monk from the Self-Realization Fellowship advised her to treat her home like an ashram for five months. She went deep into practicing teachings from ancient texts.●Kimberly rose out of grief five months after. She developed a deep sense of trust and wholeness.●Listen to the full episode to hear how Kimberly met her husband after connecting with her true self!Dealing with Unsupportive People●Setting boundaries is not about keeping out what we do not want. Energy is about keeping what we want.●State your boundaries from a place of clarity while keeping the love and firmness in your voice. That way, the other person will know it's a non-negotiable.●Knowing the true self means knowing that you do not have to defend or explain yourself. ●People respond differently when you practice the power of autonomy. It also comes from a deep place of deserving.Where Real Confidence Stems from●The root of all confident issues goes back to identifying with the ego.●Surface confidence is different from real confidence. Real confidence comes down to the statement: “I am what I am.” ●It's about being confident for being alive and being a unique creation of spirit. Nothing can take this core part away from us.●Our self-worth should come from this inner place. It creates a deep sense of naturalness and easefulness that draws people and harmony in.How Kimberly Feels Radically Loved●We all have different ideas of love that we form as children.●Feeling radically loved is a heart-bursting, open, and unconditional love that comes from the practice of tuning in.●It's the radical understanding that we need to do nothing for love; we just need to be who we are.●It's a beautiful gift to find love just by being in the fullness of the moment.●The world would become brighter and more connected if everyone had access to their inner peace.5 Powerful Quotes[09:59] “It's all around the central theme though, which is really connecting with the true self. So I think when people are searching for purpose, or they're trying to create what they want in their life, we need to talk about this.”[11:31] "The thoughts that come from out here, the ego, are often fear-based, Rosie. They keep us small and limited. They tell us, it's trying to keep us safe, in a sense, the ego is, but a lot of it is based on limitation."[16:34] "The ego is like a trickster. So it starts to put these fears in our minds. And then we start to say, oh, yeah, you know, I want to be meditating. But actually, I need to do like five more things on my to-do list or I could squeeze in these three emails, or whatever it is."[26:11] “Remember that boundaries aren't about keeping out what we don't want…boundaries are to keep in what I want.”[29:09] “The root issue of all these confidence issues goes back to, ‘Am I identifying with the ego, or am I identifying with the true self?'”About KimberlyKimberly Snyder is a meditation and spiritual teacher, holistic wellness specialist, and nutritionist. Bringing Ancient Wisdom to Modern Life by Creating Daily Rituals I loved this conversation with Kori Hahn. It was a true pleasure to dive into the ancient practice of yoga from a holistic perspective! She has a book out which dives into the ancient and modern day practices of yoga for the modern mind seeking more understanding, self-study and compassion for the human condition. Rituals of the Soul: Using the 8 Ancient Principles of Yoga to Create a Modern and Meaningful Life by Kori HahnIs your life a wild exploration, or does it feel mundane and lack excitement? Is the life you are living based on logical reason and society's expectations, or are you doing exactly what makes your heart beat a little faster with passion and enthusiasm? If you listened more intently to what your heart wants, what would you be doing? What are your dreams, and why aren't you living them at the moment? These are the questions that author Kori Hahn poses in the introduction to Rituals of the Soul: Using the 8 Ancient Principles of Yoga to Create a Modern and Meaningful Life (New World Library, October 5, 2021). She dedicates the rest of the book to showing readers how the eight ancient steps of yoga can help them answer them. What We Talk AboutLearn about Sanskrit and what the Yogic terms are that we use to talk about Yoga from ancient to modern timesWhat are the Yamas and NiyamasHow do you practice the 8 limbs of Yoga in a modern day contextWhy do we practice yoga and what is the actual goalWhat does Yoga Asana actually meanHow to move Yoga beyond the mat, what does it mean to live your practice on and off the mat, "Outside of the Studio"If you have ever wanted to learn more about Yoga, Sanskrit, Ashtanga or the 8 Limbs of Yoga - then this episode is for YOU! Rituals for the Soul empowers readers to create a customized yoga prescription that will help them hear and start acting on their intuition. The eight-step strategy Kori offers is based on the teachings of the world's greatest (and oldest) yogis in an ancient text called the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, which can be challenging to understand in its original form. So Kori offers her own interpretations and real-life examples from her life as a yogi, bohemian, surfer, and mama to make each of the eight principles easier to integrate into modern life. While yoga is often seen as a form of exercise or meditation, Rituals of the Soul offers an easy-to-digest understanding of the deeper, fundamental principles of yoga. Kori offers readers new ways of using tools like meditation and breath work, affirmations, visualizations, and journaling to cultivate more spaciousness, presence, awareness, worthiness, and heightened focus in their daily lives. In fact, readers can use the formula explained in the book every day without ever setting foot on a yoga mat.
